Thumbs.db From Showing Up In Folders?
Mar 15, 2007I have Windows XP Pro, SP2. Is there a way to stop the files Thumbs.db from showing up in folders?

Thumbs.db Files Are Showing Now?
Feb 7, 2006I recently uninstalled Norton Antivirus and started using another anti virus program by Computer Associates. After my first scan these hidden files called thumbs.db started showing up in all my picture folders and the other folders that I have the view set to Thumbnails or Tiles. This happened after the first scan. By the way there are no virus' on my machine as far as I can tell. I have gone into the folder view options to make sure that hidden files and system files are still hidden, and they are. But these files are still showing. I have even set my computer to Do Not Cache Thumbnails to try and fix this and that didn't work. I tried to delete these files and I get an error message.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

Oct 16, 2005I was testing my FTP server tonight and when I connect to the home directory there's two folders that show up (RECYCLER and System Volume Information) in the home directory that shouldn't be there. When I go into my home directory in Windows Explorer these folders don't show up there, even if I choose to show the hidden files. If I can't get these folders to show up in Windows Explorer I can't exclude them from showing up in my FTP Server software. Is it possible that they show up in my FTP client because I'm connecting to the same machine the server is on? That's all I can come up with.

I deleted a large number of music files (mp3) and folders and only 3 of these files are in the recycle bin. The Recycle Bin settings are global and do not allow for auto delete. The disk space available is large.

Jul 10, 2006No matter what I do, when I change the properties of a single directory to either show or not show hidden files and folders, that property then changes in every single directory on the whole drive. I do not click on "Apply to All Folders", I just go to the directory of interest and change the button in Folder Options>View and press "OK". Is there a trick here? Basically I want some folders to show hidden folders, and others to not show them. Right now it's either all or nothing! Again, I am NOT pressing apply to all, which I know will apply all view settings to every folder.

Nov 19, 2007I am going to try to explain this as best I can. This is a friends computer. She has this sewing machine that has a memory stick that she plugs into her computer. As you can see on the 1st screen shot "removable Drive L" is NOT present. It used to show but it does not show anymore. She sad that she clicked on "EJECT DISC", and now Removable Drive L " does not show UNLESS she has the memory stick plugged in as you can see in the 2nd screen shot. So she is wanting to know how she can get "removable Drive L" to show up again, like drives. G,H,I and J. I am asking her for more information because now that I look at these screen shots, I see in the 2nd one that she actually is showing "6" Removable drives.

May 9, 2008I'm sorry for posting so many questions here. But my Windows XP operating sytem isn't displaying icons when I download new items. Instead I have to right click > properties > change icon > OK. Instead of automatically installing the icon, it shows this:on the desktop. It displayed a similar image for virtually everything in the start menu too. This meant I had to install every single icon in the start bar menu manually! What is causing this? How can I fix it so it automatically displays icons for newly installed items?

OTF In The Folder Not Showing Up In My Applications
Jan 14, 2009I can't seem to get much information on wacko.gif Just built a new rig that is running XP x64 with latest drivers and updates, specs are below. Installed my otf's (openType fonts) and have tried 2 different type managers (Extensis Suitcase and FontAgent Pro 4) to get my fonts to activate and they are not activating.
This lead me to check the windows font folder and I noticed that any OTF in the folder was not showing up in my applications (photoshop etc). So I double click on the fonts and I am getting a "the requested file /path to font/ was not a valid font file" message. I installed the fonts directly from my cd so I know the fonts are valid.

Sep 27, 2006I am running Dell Inspiron laptop with xp professional I wish to make a presentation using a Hitachi CP-X345 LCD projector.I want to project a slideshow of pictures and also view on my laptop simultaneously from a .jpg picture file on my harddrive. File is in "my Pictures".I have no trouble in opening this picture file and running a slideshow using Windows picture and fax viewer on my laptop. I cannot get the projector to show anything other than my desktop background. I have tried F5 and also Fn crt/lcd on the F8 key.
I have tried to fool around with display settings but to no avail. I cannot even get my desktop with icons projected.
