View 3 RepliesNo I had never changed it. I had downloaded a pic and wanted it as my desktop and noticed it was gone. I am unsure how long the option was missing.
View 4 Replies View Relateda couple days ago, while doing my usual browsing for pics, i saved some pics to my usual picture folder and noticed the pics weren't there or anywhere on my hard drive. i tried saving the pics to my desktop, documents, an external hard drive, etc... and the pics are nowhere to be found. i did a complete computer search and the pics are nowhere to be found. i open mozilla firefox and my yahoo toolbar is gone but google toolbar is still there, i click view and yahoo and another toolbar aren't even listed. internet download manager is no longer viewed when i right click
when i right click several things are missing. the only things i see when i right click with firefox open is view image, copy image, properties and a couple of others----several things are missing including download with internet download manager, and several firefox extension programs. this hurts can anyone help? thanks, the only thing i've changed lately is after running no virus program for the past 5 months i decided to download avg free, i ran a scan and it caught a few things and cleaned them, then websites were moving slow
I have Windows XP Pro, SP2. Is there a way to stop the files Thumbs.db from showing up in folders?
I recently uninstalled Norton Antivirus and started using another anti virus program by Computer Associates. After my first scan these hidden files called thumbs.db started showing up in all my picture folders and the other folders that I have the view set to Thumbnails or Tiles. This happened after the first scan. By the way there are no virus' on my machine as far as I can tell. I have gone into the folder view options to make sure that hidden files and system files are still hidden, and they are. But these files are still showing. I have even set my computer to Do Not Cache Thumbnails to try and fix this and that didn't work. I tried to delete these files and I get an error message.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?
Just noticed that I have this file in all my picture folders. Thumbs.db. I have no idea what they are or how they got there. Can I delete them?
View 6 Replies View RelatedFor a while now "Thumbs.db" files have been appearing in association with other files/folders. They took me by surprise, and I decided to delete. However, there is a warning that the 'system' may need them. What do I do with them? Especially when I am deleting a whole folder.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI use Windows XP on my HP Pavillion 750n (c.2001). I had to run a Non-Destructive recovery due to a Windows Update that wouldn't allow me to open Internet Explorer, my antivirus softeware (Trend Micro) or even run the System Restore function. When I ran the Non-Destructive recovery, upon reboot, I received the message, "NTLDR file is compressed. Press Ctrl + Alt + Del to Restart", to which I received that same message. I called HP Cust Support and they help me fix that problem ($59.95 later), but when my system rebooted, it created to Owner profiles. One named "owner" and one named "Owner.Your-W92P4BHLZG". I cannot access the one named "Owner" and none of my files are under the "Owner.Your-W92P4BHLZG".When I go to the "Owner" file, I get "Access Denied". Even when I boot in Safe Mode and log on as Admin, I can't get it in. I know the files are still in there somewhere as when I right-click on the Local Drive, It still shows the same amount of Disk Space Used as before the recovery was run.

And now, my comp looks like it went back to the dark ages (ie: Win98). Programs wont start, i cant view pics, drivers are missing, i cant connect to the internet, no sound. I'm REALLY stumped and i've tried everything i can to correct the problem, but alas, no hope.I'm hoping someone here might know what to do. Oh, also, my comp is custom built, so i wasnt sure if i could call Dell, or whatever. Anyway, im hoping someone has insight into my problem.

On IE when we made Yahoo our browser, the toolbar words and toolbar icon pics look much smaller than before and that is a prob for my husband who is legally blind. I have already increased the size of the icons on the desktop and also in the start menu list, but have no idea what to do to increase size of the items on the IE/Yahoo.com tool bars at top of page ie: File, Edit, View, etc. And also the back/forward/refresh/stop/ and home icons up there.
View 7 Replies View RelatedUsing XP home edition. I recently joined a Christmas card site to send E-cards and everything went okay. Today I wanted to send a New Years E-card but upon revisiting the site, I found I couldn't view any of the cards and got a blank screen with a small red 'x' in the top left-hand corner. I refreshed the screen but no joy. Then I altered security levels to minimum to see if that'd fix things - it didn't so I altered them back to default.

View 1 Replies View RelatedAll aplications that use the temp directory are crashing on my computer. It only happens when I am logged into my account (so if logged in as another user the system works fine). If I try to view the temp directory then explorer crashes as soon as the mouse hovers over the folder icon. I have tried disk cleanup, it crashes. Using cmd prompt "dir %temp%" it crashes too. I have run NOD32 antivirus and it finds nothing. I have tried XoftSpy and Search and Destroy but they both crash. I have tried safe mode and that is no good either! I have logged into administrator and tried to view and delete the temp folder but that also fails!.Have you heard of this before, I did read a forum (not here) where someone had the exact same problem but it went unsolved. Could it be a virus that NOD32 can't detect?
