I have a wireless network at home with 3 computers (All 3 use XP operating system) connected to a Linksys Router. I've had no problems for 2 years. I lost my connection on one of the computers (my son's) and tried to resolve through Linksys. There had been a very weak signal to the computer for a few months prior to losing the connection altogether and, the Linksys tech rep. thought that my drivers and Windows XP updates were probably not updating properly. He recommended connecting the computer directly to the router and updating from there. Just before trying this, I rebooted the system and received the following error
Every mouse Ive tried to get working on a system that I just installed XP on will not work. Note these mice are ps/2 but it isn't the port because I used a Ps/2 to USB converter and that didn't work either? Note Ive rebooted the system every time I tried a new mouse so it isn't the restart needed.
i'm running windows xp home, on an emachine m6805 laptop. at some point yesterday my computer died and rebooted and now the hal.dll driver is missing or corrupted. i've tried various things from other threads such as safemode, last known configuration, recovery, etc. nothing worked. i've tried booting from cd with my xp discs but i think the problem i have is that my discs are recovery cds from emachines and i cant press "R" like everyone says to do. reformatting is not an option unless i take it to a computer repair shop to get all my info off that i need. what can i do? i read the kelly link that people always link to but it makes no sense. can anyone help? if you need more info just let me know.
I saw another thread on this issue, but it didn't quite fit, so I thought I'd get others opinions. This computer was built for me by a non-major vendor. I consider myself semi-computer literate, and feel comfortable with most work required inside my case. Let me start by saying that this issue happens most often when I've woken my computer up from sleep mode. I have made no major changes to the hardware or software recently. What I did do was move the computer, rather gently, 2100 miles to my new home in a new city. The PC is under warentee, but the original vendor is rather far away. I also noticed that the first time I booted the computer after the move, the computer made a funny noise. It sounded like something (either a fan of the HD) was spinning improperly. I immediately powered down my system and rebooted, and have not had the noise since.

Begining dump physical memory Physical memory dump complete. Contact your system administrator or technical support group for further assistance. I've also noticed that on the boot screen, my PC no longer seems to be doing a memory test, or showing my 3 gigs of memory. In windows, it appears the system sees the memory, but the memory test seems absent on boot. I have no problems, so far, running resource heavy programs. This seems, like I've said, to happen only when I sleep then wake up my PC. Rebooting from this screen will cause the PC to reboot itself constantly, but turning the PC off and rebooting seems to give me no errors, again, until I sleep it.
In the middle of system restore the computer rebooted on its own. It didnt finish. And now my laptop is a paper weight. ymtoms are Comp will boot , show the debug status bar, then flash to the windows xp status bar, a few sec. will pass then it reboots back to SONY, and the cycle goes on and on and on. The CD drive is on the docking station , and it wont work untill windows starts. so now I will have to figure out how to use the Network Boot option.
I did more than one system restore and each time the process created a new user folder. I first thought all my settings were lost but since discovered I had several new user folders and the computer was no longer using my original folder when I logged in.
ok im not sure what happened but i recently built this computer about 1 and half months ago and today i shut it off with the power button and then turned off the power switch to the wall and then i went to turn it back on and now i can see the cpu fan running and everything back nothing shows up on the screen it just says no signal on my acer monitor then turns off
I recently installed VPN client on my windows XP sp3 pc, and I started to experience network issues. My can no longer pick up any wireless signals. I see no wireless network available. My wire network does not appear to be working either. Is anyone else experiencing the same problem,
I have XP Pro and just after the XP window comes up the screen goes blank and a message appears on the montitor saying that the digital signal is not there. I've tried to access safe mode and the computer ignores F8 and goes on to the XP logo. The system is about 5 yrs old.
I was wondering if someone could help me with a little problem I have. When I install service pack 2 or anything past sp2, it does something with my video card. Normally everything runs fine until I try to play one of my PC games (for instance Half Life 2) then either the computer freezes up, or the monitor goes black and stops receiving a signal from the video card. I know that it's not a hardware issue because running off of a fresh windows install with no updates and sp1 everything's fine, but sp2 or later causes problems with my video card, I've tried updating everything (windows, hardware etc....) nothing works except running it with no updates and sp1, and as you know you cannot run much without sp2 at least. Any help would be appreciated, I've also attached a .txt with my specs from dxdiag.
I have had a screensaver in use for a month. All of a sudden it doesn't come on after 10 minutes like it used to. I've reset it, rebooted. Nothing works.
I have just rebooted my PC and it only has the Windows Classic theme. I think this might be because i have disabled something thru services.msc.Does anyone know which service i need to change to Automatic or Manual?
Had XP administrator username and password set up the first time I installed XP, but never enabled it until yesterday. Reebooted this morning and now windows won't accept my password. I don't know why it's not taking my password, or if I wasn't typing it in correctly (did not have caps lock on), but now I'm totally locked out.
If I load the xp cd, is there an option to unlock xp if I have the original serial number that was loaded for that system? I'm on my old system right now. I know you can reset the bios password, but I highly doubt that resettting the cmos jumpers will clear the xp logon password.
I have got a Dell dimension 3100C with win xp home.My problem is I don't have any sound.I had no sound so I installed sp3 and when it rebooted it said some thing to do with high definition audio codes so I try to install them and it says error 10 device cannot start
The other day I using my computer (Compaq Presario), and the all of a sudden it rebooted without any warning. While it was starting when it showed the windows XP boot screen it jammed. So I turned it off and when I tried to boot it wouldn't. I have some ideas as to what the problem can be:1. Its overheating.2. The CPU is fried.3. There's something wrong with the video card.I have 2 fans inside the computer and about 1 week ago I bought a new CPU cooling fan. I believe the video card is a NVIDIA TNT2.
I'm using win 2000. Been fine for 5years, no BSoD's at all. My niece was on my computer looking at someone's myspace and then it shut down and when it rebooted, I got this fine message:
I went into safemode and did a search for all files modified around the time she was on it. There was some spyware which I deleted after running Hijackthis. I have reduced the amount of virtual memory as well. Unfortunately, my virus program will not run during safemode so I don't know if there's a virus (hijackthis would notice it right?) I have no idea what all the numbers in the error refer to. If anyone does, that could help me in fixing this and finding out what hardware or driver went haywire. Can this just happen all of the sudden like this? I have not installed any new hardware or programs for awhile either
My computer rebooted itself a few days ago. When it did this my computer stopped at the log in user screen. I've never had any other users setup on my computer. When rebooting it always goes straight to the windows desktop. After that I noticed that my desktop picture and all of the folders I had on the desktop were gone. My favorites were removed form IE8 and I keep getting a security settings warning bar that doesn't let me fix it. I click fix my setting and it looks like it does then on the next page it pops up again. So I had to create another user with admin rights to use for the internet. I can find all of my files that were on the desktop but they are showing up under user owner but if I log into widows with user owner they don't show up. I also show another user with no admin rights and is password protected. ASP.NET machine A?
I think of myself as an intermediate compuet user. Recently when i rebooted my computer, windows didn't load. I have Windows XP. The start screen with the windows logo and the blue bar runnning across the bottom loads but then when it usually goes to the pick user screen it only comes up with the Windows XP logo and stops loading.Does anyone know a way to stop this happening. (I am on a different computer at the moment incase you're wondering)
I've had an infinite reboot cycle for the last 3 days now, and I still cannot figure out why. I have been looking at other cases and are quite similar to mine but not exact. This is my problem
I have XPP and one day my computer got a BSOD. Then through out the weeks it had a few (5-6 maybe) BSODs. And one day I started up the computer and it went to the windows splash screen, the logo, and rebooted itself. Being frantic on my 6 month old computer, I let it reboot by itself...and it went on like that for a while. It continues to ask me if I want to start in safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode with command prompt, the last good known configuration, or start windows normally. I have tried all of the options and they lead me down the same road...infinite and continuous rebooting at the logo.
I recently upgraded my motherboard but kept my hardrive as is except for changing the drivers provided with my Mb and registering xp again as xp stated that too many changes took place. my mouse not working I uninstall my mouse driver and rebooted xp where it did pick up my mouse but no movement I also tried installing the software provided with the mouse but no luck. I even took another hardrive and installed xp on there the mouse then work fine.
After receiving BSOD, I rebooted and now have a black screen. When hit F8 to try and start in Safe Mode get these on a black screen multi(0)disk(0) rdisk(0) partition(1)WINDOWSsystem32 toskrnl.exe
Booted my computer this morning and had two error messages; send a report to Microsoft (which usually never do) then rebooted. Now I have lost my active desk top and can not re-activate. Do I have a virus?
I downloaded something stupid and probably got a virus as a result of it. A day or so later, when I next turned on the computer, it only got as far as loading the background to the Windows XP login screen, not the dialogue box itself, then rebooted. When it rebooted, it sounded like the hard drive stopped for a second, then started again. I formatted my hard drive, and after discovering that having a second hard drive connected causes Windows setup to crash reinstalled Windows XP Pro. It didn't help; in fact the reboot happened even earlier, while the Windows XP Loading screen was up. I went back to XP Home, and now the computer will get as far as it originally did, but doesn't reboot, it just freezes.
when i am browsing i got download.trojan alert and afterwards it rebooted automatically. then i download trojan remover 6.4.8 and spybot and it removed some. but again the problem is not solved. when i run check with spysweeper it gave lot of threats. as a trial version only we can scan not remove. so plz help me these sloving problems.and i get this windows security center alert always.
I was playing a game and I rebooted my computer. When i went to start it it went to the a blank blue screen before the account screen in the beginning of XP. I know i can restore to new but i will have lost so much information that it would take about 3 months to retain it all back. It says it can not find operating system. I need help in a serious way. all advice and solutions are requested.
I have a dwsktop vaio When I boot from cold it does not find hard drive. I get an error message Disk boot failure Insert system disk and press enter. If I restart the computer and go into the bios it does not show the hard drive but when I come out of the bios it then boots up.It will only bootup if I go into the bios first?
My computer, a dell dimension 8400 with windows xp home edition, keeps coming up with an error saying:Windows XP could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: WINDOWSSYSTEM32Configsystem.i ran boot utility and scanned the computer and the drives come up fine with the test(except the hard disk which popped up errors on a constant.)
i have windows xp pro installed on my pc along with linux mandrake 10.1 and one day while my dad was surfing the net the sreen turned blue and some type of error message came up and it said to do something if it happend again but i ignored it becuase i thought it wouldnt happen again so i restarted and when it came back on it went to a black sceen and i couldnt do anything but if i let it wait there it would come up with an error saying that windowssystem32config system was missing or corrupt
The system can be restored by using the Startup CD and pressing R for recover, but I do not have any cd. The only one I have it the recover cd, but it is my understanding that if I use the recovery cd that I will erase everything from my computer and I can not do this.I tried to read the other threads about the same problem, but to be honest I do not understand them and I just do not have the startup cd - maybe it is the same as the recovery cd?
