This is, basically, as a result of me re-installing Widows a couple of times to try and solve a very slow running system (more help needed there but I will start a new thread for that). How do I remove the 3 unwanted start options?
I've tried several times to delete a folder from My Pictures Folder but when I power up the computer the next day the folder is still there. I've tried removing the green dot from the read only box in properties this has not worked. Can anyone help me remedy this?

I'm trying to set a default view for Windows Explorer but everytime I make my changes Windows doesn't seem to save the settings. I would like Windows Explorer to open with the Explorer Bar on the left with Folder view as the default. I've tried saving the view under options but this doesn't seem to work. If I close Windows Explorer it just goes back to the default view before I made my changes. Also is there a way to have Windows Explorer default to a certain directory?

I hope someone out there can help me because i am well and truly stumped with this problem. I ordered a brand new pc - Ath 64 X2 4600+ CPU, 1 GB RAM, 400GB SATA, 256MB 7900GT, 19" TFT, 16x DVDRW-DL, Running Mcafee Antivirus / Ad-aware, I originally had problems when my Graphics card wouldn't work. I installed some older versions of the drivers and it was working okay. Then I had some problems with some dll files and i couldn't open Windows due to the system/config error at start up. I managed to repair that installation. THe next day, my PC would not boot and I could not repair it. I then found out, i had bad sectors on the Hard disk so i tried formatting it

In 'tools/internet options' I am missing the section for deleting cookies and files.I only have the security options of'security/privacy/content/ connections /advanced'I dont know how or why this happened as I used to delete my temp files daily. I now have to get to them through 'my computer' and delete them all manually. My keyboard delete button is getting a work-out.
My volume icon is missing from the tool bar. It has happened before, but a few reboots would always bring it back. Now it is gone. I have gone to control panel>sound and audio properties and found the place volume icon in task bar box checked. What can I do next?
This may seem trivial, but it's bugging me. I have a windows XP and i have the windows classic theme. Every time I put a picture as my wallpaper the color around the words under my icons doesn't blend in with the picture but stays a solid color, so there's like little boxes of blue of white. How do I make those icon words blend in with the picture?
Ctrl now opens the bookmarks side-bar in firefox when I try to ctrl + c to copy something it does in fact copy but it opens the bookmarks sidebar every time. Also I cannot ctrl alt delete to open taskmanager anymore.

I am using Windows XP version 2000 and intel celeron 1.2 GHZ with 256 MB RAM. My problem is that all of a sudden my Windows hangs up and when I try to soft boot it ctrl+alt+del then it doesnt work imfact no key works, everytime I hard boot it (Reset). I am using Windows XP professional, service pack 2, on all machines. If I check "minimize on use", select an application in the "Applications" tab, and click "Switch to", it does not switch to that application but opens another window instead. I have this problem on 3 of the 4 machines I normally use. Can anyone tell me of a configuration setting that changes this behavior? The only difference between the machine that works and the ones that don't is how they connect to the network. The machines with the problem are on my home network connected through a workgroup.
Through out the day, I have my computer on. Many times... whether I am using the computer at that moment, or if I leave and come back later... my screen will be frozen. The mouse moves, but nothing on the screen can be clicked. Also, control alt delete works as well, so I have found that if I go into the applications tab and open a new task and open/refresh "explorer" everything will start working again.
HELP Ctrl+Alt+Delete Wont Work I just recently tried to use Ctrl+Alt+Delete but it wouldn't work. I haven't recently installed anything I tried enabling everything from msconfig. Ctrl+Alt+Delete is supposed to be your last resort, the thing that always works, the last trick up your sleeve, the best weapon you have...but now it doesn't work.
i have a folder on my desktop that is not empty but when i try to open it (via GUI or command line) it will not. i get "the file or directory is corrupted and unreadable" and it wants me to run check disk. when i do, i then get an application error on boot up. so i boot in safe mode with command line and disable check disk on boot up so i can get back into windows with no problem however the folder is still there and unable to open and/or delete. fsutil tells me that the c drive is dirty, but i just can't clean it.how can i delete "C:Documents and SettingsusernameDesktopNew Folder"?
I have a computer that I formatted the hard drive on. Then installed Windows XP Pro. When it boots up, it goes to a black screen and has Windows XP Pro and Windows XP listed with the Win XP Pro selected and boots to it in 15 seconds or so if nothing is selected. I have read somewhere about this before and have NO clue where I read it, but does anyone know how to get rid of the option (Win XP) that really doesn't even exist on the hard drive?
I recently reformatted and repartitioned hard drive and reinstalled XP. I messed something up because now when I boot comp, I'm given three different Windows XP options to boot even though I have only one instance of XP installed. What do I have to do to get rid of the two unwanted boot options?

I'm not a computer wizard and I did something screwy, not that I know what it was. So if you can answer me, 1st of all thank you, and second of all you have to speak to me like I'm a child with this computer stuff. The problem is that I wanted to get rid of my Welcome screen with the big picture and my whole name splashed a cross it. Man, I wish I had it back. Now I get an instant log on error once windows loads which has a Yellow Yield sign and says that I can't log on and I should check if I have the right domain and User Name, then I can type in the password
I have a question here concerning a picture on my desktop.I came across a picture on the net liked it and clicked on it to "set as background" well, it had to stretch it too much to make it fit, and I didn't like it, so I deleted it then I right clicked on the same picture again "set as desktop item" (and I don't know what that means, but I thought I would find out by clicking on it.then it asked me if I wanted to set it as an ACTIVE desktop, and I again said yes.Okay the picture is fine...the size is good, but I can't get rid of the picture it stays on my desktop ALL the time.Is there a way to delete this picture so that it isn't on my desktop anymore?
I need to be able to view .avi made in a mini-dv video camcorder. Aim is to edit in Moviemaker and Power director and view in WMP.Unfortunately the .avi files will only play sound in all these applications, but appears to work fine in Quicktime. The files played on my old PC.Reading similar posts I just installed Divx player but this said the file contains "Fourcc code mjpg" and refused to play.
