View 7 RepliesWindows 2000 usually displays the username and password when i want to log on, and i just click OK and go to the desktop. However, upon turning it on today nothing appears, i press enter and it says to enter a username and password, Cancel is greyed out and there is no 'X' button.
I can't for the life of me find the username and/or password and have no rememberance as to the username or password in my head (never needed to remember it).
Is there anyway i can get round it? BIOS changes? password hackers? I really am looking for anything that might work

View 8 Replies View RelatedI don't know what is happening to my XP Pro computer but everytime I reboot the computer, it tells me that windows cannot find my desktop profile and it recreates a new one. This is obviously becoming very annoying and making it very hard to be productive as all my icons are gone etc. I have noticed that no actual programs or files are missing, it is just that all the profiles I set go away. I did a google search and found nothing.

View 2 Replies View RelatedAt my job we have about 500 networked users on WinXP 32 bit. Each user has an individual log in - there are no roaming profiles. We're in the process of creating a new image andI'm having a disagreement with a new tech here. He says we should get rid of the Default User Profile and only use the All Users Profile. Every time I've created an image I've set up the image the way I want and then copied that over to the default profile - so that when new users log in - they see exactly what i've set up in terms of the standard desktop shortcuts we use. This new tech thinks the default user's profile redundant and not really needed. I'm having a hard time finding information the default users profile and if it's needed or not.

Does anyone have any thoughts? I also noticed that the virus software, althought up-to-date with subscription and definitions, was disabled. This is an additional backup work station at the office of my employment and is used by many different people. One of those individuals must have disabled Norton about 45 days ago.

The second one is the one that I just created. Can I recover my original one ?

When I first established it and sent an invite to my laptop my main pc had a password that was required to log on, so I used the same password to log onto the PC through the remote desktop via my laptop. Now, I have removed the password from my main PC but when I do that I cannot log onto through the remote desktop connection via my laptop because it won't accept a blank for the password. It will only work if I have a password on my user account on my main pc.

About halfway through the installation (according to the progress bar) I get a dialogue box saying <Access denied click OK to cancel>. There are no other options available. Clicking on OK reverses everything done to that point and puts me back to the beginning.
There is nothing to indicate what access is denied or which program/setting is doing the denying.

View 3 Replies View RelatedHas anyone experienced this? I am installing the service pack 3 update for Windows XP and the install wizard is moving extremely slow. It is to the point where it is installing files and I can see that each individual file (dll's, exe's, etc.) takes about 30-90 seconds to install! It has been installing like this for many hours now - almost half a day. There is no option to cancel and roll back the installation (buttons are all grayed out), so I'm just going to patiently wait for it to end.Does anyone know why this would happen?
