I can access the volume controls but when I go to advanced option for tone control it's greyed out. I attached speakers and headphones and it's still greyed out. Is there a way to make this an accessable option?
View 2 RepliesI have a computer that is stuck in a loop and won't boot into normal or safe mode. There is a blue screen flashing up, but way too quick for me to be able to see the STOP code.The problem I have is that the American Megatrends BIOS 2.51, has an option on the boot screen "Press F8 for BBS Popup". Therefore I can't use the F8 key to get into the Windows XP Advanced Options menu. Why the hell has a BIOS manufacturer hijacked an important Windows key? I have also tried pressing the F8 key AFTER the BIOS screen, but even by doing that you still get a boot order list by pressing F8, and not the Advanced Options menu.
View 2 Replies View RelatedThe odd thing is that I can still listen to music and watch movies and the sound works fine (I just have to go into the control panel to adjust the system volume).
I've tried reinstalling the audio drivers and it didn't work. I've also checked the "sounds and audio devices" and it lists the sound card under "sound playback" and "sound recording" however, under "voice" there is nothing listed and when I try to set it to the soundcard, it just goes blank again after I hit okay, close the window and open it again.
For some bizarre reason, the Sounds and Audio Devices selection in the Control Panel does not respond when I double-click on it. The icon has also changed to a generic icon that I think means Windows can't recognize it.Sound works fine on the system; I can play CD's or whatever.

I have two PCs. One is having Win XP and another Win server 2003.
Now when i access any audio files from the server through XP it playbacks corrupted. It gets scrambled and gives weired high pitch sound....
How can i solve this problem? All other files i can access properly....no problem...

I had my laptop serviced by the manufacturer. I had the hard disk restored from backup and I ran into a problem with the fax which had not existed before the service. I am trying to establish whether the problem is with the hardware which requires to send the laptop back. I have one phone line which I split into two by inserting 2 RJ11 cables into a dual connector: one goes to the phone, one to the laptop/fax. I use one device at a time, of course. When I try to fax from the laptop I don't get a dial tone. I also noticed that as long as the fax line is inserted into the connector, the phone does not get a dial tone either; when I disconnect the fax cable, the phone tone comes back.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI have a volume control icon at my system tray...then, all of the sudden, the icon shows a "mute" status...i tried to unmute it by double-clicking the icon to access the volume control...nothing happened...i went to Control Panel>Sound and Audio Devices...also, nothing happened...i thought that this applet (mmsys.cpl) in C:WINDOWSSYSTEM32 was corrupted, so i tried to run it from other folder containing that file but still, nothing happened...at this point, i don't think that all 3 files were corrupted...the only way to control the volume , and to mute/unmute is by using the Creative Surround Mixer (i have an Audigy sound card),which work flawlessly...The wierd part is, even i unmute from here, the volume icon at the system tray still shown as 'mute'..but i can still hear all the sounds and songs...Then, I've discovered that in AudioHQ (also from Creative software), under the View>Multimedia Propertis, I CAN actually access the 'Sound and Audio Devices' applet...this will open the 'Audio' tab...other tabs like 'Sound', 'Voice' and 'Hardware' is also accessible from here, BUT, when opening the 'Volume' tab, it hangs...i could't access this applet any longer...the only way to close it is to end the process (rundll32.exe) in the task manager.That's why i conclude that the volume tab in the applet is problematic.

I have been experience this for a long time now. When i switch my computer on it loads up my screansaver but not the toolbar. It doesn't do it at its own time because i left it on for 24 hours to see if it was running slow, but it just didn't load up. I have to run bit torrent through task manager and right click a program i downloaded, then click open containing folder to load the toolbar up. Any ideas on how to fix this, so it will boot up with the pc?of all, i can't run any programs with my pc. It loads the egg timer but then stops and doesn't load up. Has done this for a while also. I can't access any of my control panels either

View 14 Replies View RelatedI have an optical mouse on a Dell 8400 running x/p pro. The last two weeks my mouse keeps freezing for no apparent reason. I keep hearing my machine make the tone that it uses for a usb device to be plugged and unplugged through out the day for no reason, and the usb mouse just either responds erratically or freezes altogether. I then need to unplug and replug it to make it function again.
I have already tried virus scans, with no result, updated the bios, and received a usb driver hotfix from microsoft, but non of these have remedied the issue. This is a new issue on a 2 year old machine so I can only deduce there is some type of virus or worm running that I can't locate.I have already tried the mouse on another machine it functions correctly, and it is clean, with no optical issues.
The folder options seem to have vanished from my control panel n nothin that i do can help me access my hidden files.

My control panel icon has vanished from my start menu, the link to it in My Computer has gone too and when I try to access it via the Run function using control.exe I am greeted with the message of "This operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer, please contact your administrator".I'm sure this is a malware problem I've picked up off the web but I've got no idea of how to fix the problem. I just got a new computer with an AMD Duron processor, 512 M RAM and Windows XP. Only problem is I've got no audio. I've checked BIOS and sound is enabled but Windows doesn't seem to recognize that the speakers are hooked up. When I tried to play system sounds from the Control Panel, I got an error message that said cannot play sound, your sound card may be in use. The computer was a gift that was bought used and the shop didn't have any documentation with the system. I think this might be a driver issue but I'm not sure how to find out which driver to try.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI reinstalled my OS and all my software, shortly thereafter I noticed I had an issue where any sound that was coming through my headphones was being retransmitted through the mic, with further testing I found that this was not actually the case but rather any sound that would be output is being retransmitted as audio in, even if I had no speakers, headphones or mics connected. I have looked at and experimented with everything I could in every sound settings.
I have tried updated drivers, the only way for me to stop the issue from occurring is to mute the mic in the recording control, but that stops me from using the mic altogether. I need to be able to use my mic without recording anything that I am hearing as well.
First off I use windows XP with the latest service pack. I'm using the onboard sound card on my motherboard Asus striker II extreme.
The volume of my flash player (I first noticed it when trying to view a video on Hulu) but other flash embedded videos won't play sound either. I thought this was a flash problem, and tried the usual fixes uninstalling reinstalling, running the update utility and removing and reinstalling the plugin. Also it likely isn't a browser issue as embedded videos didn't play on either Firefox or Opera.
After restarting my computer after a few uninstalls I noticed my startup music wasn't playing as well. I'm thinking that it might be some registry error as it seems like the music is very quiet instead of muted, and all of the volume levels in the Sounds and Audio Device Properties menu are at the correct levels, and my other media players play music and movies just fine.
I've browsed the forums and haven't seen anyone with a similar problem or a fix, so any help would be greatly apprciated.
After hardware upgrades, my custom XP Professional audio workstation will not allow me to re-install my Digigram VX-442 audio card driver or on-board audio.
Error message is: Cannot install this hardware.The data is invalid.

So that I can keep a previous email address active I need to log on to an old Pay As You Go dial up connection at least once every 60 days . I have set up the the connection in 'Network connection' in the control panel but get the error " no dial tone " when i try to use it, Should i be disconnecting the router and plugging in the phone cable to the PC directly as we did in pre broadband, dial up only days . Advise please on how to best ' cable ' the set up

The only problem (it's more of an annoyance than a problem) is that on the advanced tab of the Power Options Properties I do not get any power button options. In my previous installation I was getting those options and I had configured it so that pressing the power button for less than 4secs it would put the system in hybernation mode. Is anybody aware of any registry tweak that will enable the power button options? (I really wouldn't want to go through the installation all over again).
