Add Hardware Wizard Detecting Wrong Hardware

I used to sync my Palm Vx (yes very old!) to my computer using a Serial to USB replicator (some say it doesn't work but I have had it working) in the past without any problems but now XP detects a new USB device, a Motorola V series phone, so I'm unable to re-install/re-config the connection automatically to work with my Palm dock.I had once installed the Motorola My Phone tools (or whatever the Motorola software is called) for my V600 before but have since uninstalled it from my machine, but I guess XP is msitakingly recognizing the Palm as a Motorola phone! I'm not sure if this happened after I had installed the Motorola
software since I've not sync'd my Palm in a long time but I suspect this is the cause.Can anyone please help me get the Add Hardware Wizard to recognize my Palm dock? As I am not very computer savvy, would appreciate some "idiot's guide.

I want to migrate data from my old computer (98) to my new computer (XP) via serial cable. To do that I need to create a "Wizard Disk" for my old computer. I'm trying to use "File and Settings Transfer Wizard" on my new computer to create the Wizard CD, but that program doesn't recognize my CD-RW/DVD drive (E. The dropdown list used to select the output device includes choices for only F, G, H, and I, my 8-in-1 media drives. How can I
get it to write to my CD on drive E?

My XP SP2 is not detecting any new printer attached. Both parallel and USB ports are not being detected. When I connect the printer and reboot, its like nothing at all has happened. The PC sits there finished booting, calm and quiet. They were being detected and installed some time ago. I suspect it might be a window corruption.. or some registry problem. Is there any way to refresh the windows registery so that it will start picking up printers again? Other devices like memory stick, external hard disk etc. are being picked up and working fine with USB

I have had this problem and no one seems to know the answer. I reinstalled windows (before my headset was transmiting my voice perfectly) and when I tested my Mic, it didn't work! I could hear through it but my voice just wouldn't go through. I checked out the recorder on Windows, no sound. I did the check in the audio controls in the control panel, it didnt detect my voice either!I don't know what to do, I even bought a new headset and it still doesnt work, can anyone help me out? I even tried to do detect hardware (even though it should be plug and play, right?) but it wasn't found, help?

I recently donloaded the trial version of kapersky av since i heard its the best. It detected a bunch of trojans that AVG and CA antivirus never detected. Any ideas wat hese are or where they could have come from? Is this the system restore directory? Are these maybe older viruses still stuck in older system restore folders?? Please help, im a pretty careful web surfer and always have AVG active protection running so i dont understand how thse viruese got through?

I am running XP on a dell D610 laptop (new) When I access the internet by send/recieve in outlook or through explorer. Its taking up to five minutes to access pages or email. I am already connected !! I noticed that as soon as I execute send/recieve the CPU shoots up to 100% and stays there. When the CPU drops it connects. After the initial tedium things work OK until I log off or restart the laptop. I am currently in a remote location and have to use dial up. However the office PC seems to connect without these symptons.

So I was bored today and began creating a old Pentium 4 System out of old PC parts around the house.Now, I have assembled everything and have tested all the parts and all are working fine, However when I go to install Windows XP on the machine it will not detect the Hard Drive (On the Partition Screen). Now I thought it may be a hard drive problem so I connected the hard drive up to my current PC and ran the XP Installation fine.However, Now when I try to boot the XP I installed on the hard drive off of my other system it will get to the splash screen and restart, so I turned off automatic restart on system failure and I get the 0x0000007B Stop error.
So I retried the XP installation on the system again, got to the Partition and Hard Drive selection screen and still no Hard Drive to be seen, I plugged in a USB and it detected it fine.I have tried booting in safe mode & every option under F8, However it just restarts on the XP splash screen, And as I said the hard drive seems fine as it comes up in bios and my main PC ran it fine, So I'm beginning to think that i'm in need of my motherboards SATA Drivers or something.

How do you remove a hidden "StartUp program", like the one shown below? I need to remove it from my system. WinPatrol doesn't even detect it, so I can't remove that hidden program/file with WinPatrol. Is there a program that is made to detect hidden files like this (see below): I believe the program is actually part of the .NET Framework 2.0 (Service pack 1), which was installed on my computer, yesterday. I want to remove it & all of it's components if one of it's components is the exact same file I'm having trouble finding & removing from my list of StartUp programs. Is there a safe program that can detect & remove .NET Frameworks & other "hard to remove" files?

I had a 40 gig hard drive : then bought myself an 80 gig to accomodate the huge amount of music I had collected: essentially using the second hard drive merely as a storage space: i.e. it had no windows or other interface installed upon it and was run from harddrive number 1 (40gig) due to long overdue need of formating : I reformatted harddrive 1 and following said format I couldnt read hard drive 2 (with all my beloved music) through windows
after much headscratching I remembered that my original windows was fat 32 win xp pro and this new format job was ntfs win xp homeI havent had a chance to test my hard drive on a fat 32 driven pc yet : and i was posting here in the hope that someone could enlighten me on whether it is worth trying another format job with fat 32 and xp pro or whether there is anyway i can convert the 2nd hard drive to ntfs.

I just put my computer on stand by mode for the first time in my life and now every time i start my computer i get this message " Reboot and select proper Boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key "And in my setup mode theres no hard drive showing is it gone forever?? Everything was working perfect before i put that accidently on standby mode.

my USB Ports on my laptop are very intermittent. I have my mouse/keyboard wireless combo plugged directly into the P4, WinXP system. I get the combo set detecting and undetecting constantly. I have re-installed
the USB drivers, tried different ports, tested other devices. My device manager is perfect. Is it lack of power to the USB ports?

I've recently installed windows xp over again and when I did it doesn't read the full hdd. so now I have 124 of the full 232.I'm on SP 2 right now and I believe I'm fully updated. I've already attempted partition magic and one I think it was called gnome drive. Both want me to purchase the products so I'm trying to find the free way out.

Okay, I bought a new mobo and set up a clone pc. ASrock combo mobo (the one with socket 754 and 939). I have everything set up right, POST confirms. Everything is good, POST works fine. I've got a formatted hard drive, no OS on it. I'm trying to install Windows to that OS, but it will not install. It goes to a blank screen after detecting my hardware settings. Wasn't sure if this topic should have gone in OS or hardware, so i put it here. I've tried 2 windows CDs and a Linux DVD on 2 different disc drives, and still nothing works past the "setup is detecting your hardware settings" screen. I have no idea what to do.

For the past 4 months, sometimes the computer doesnt shutdown properly. the computer power stays on but the monitor isnt detecting any signal from the pc. along with this I sometimes get a BSOD when shutting down stating that its caused by mv61xx.sys and the error code is 0x08E. My anti-virus software keeps on detecting some virus from different folders from the C:WINDOWS emp folder, yet all folders are empty. It detects trojans from those empty folders . All folders from the temp folder are empty. Can't I just delete it all?

Running Windows XP on my laptop. When inserting any new plug 'n play device into any of my three USB ports, the Add Hardware wizard tells me that a device intallation is already in progress and I am to wait until that installation is complete. However, there is no other device being installed. I checked my device manager to see if anything is unrecognized, but no question marks. Any ideas on how I can install a new piece of hardware (in this case a USB memory stick)?

When I use Sfc within Windows 2000 pro the first message is Insert your Windows 2000 Professional CD now I insert the CD and then the message turns up the CD you provided is the wrong CD The CD is the one I just used to install the O/S. Another reason given in the message under more information is - the CD drive may not be working which it is.

A few days ago I had to do a recovery to restore my laptop to the way it was when it left the factory. When I had finished the recovery and everything was working, the computer started to gradually get slower and slower the longer it was being used for. It eventually gets to the point where everything freezes and all windows or programs show "Not Responding" and it takes ages to close them down. When the computer is restarted, it is fine for a while, then gradually the same thing happens. I noticed the the CPU usage was over 50% while the computer was doing nothing except running. I tried the Restore XP Login Screen online tool. It checked my registry and pronounced things to be okay. The problem is that the screen itself is wrong. The malware (?) theme that was installed has replaced the default blue Welcome screen with its own. I found and deleted part of the problem, but the unwelcome ''welcome/login'' screen remains.If someone could just tell me where that Welcome/Login screen is kept and what its name is, I should be able to replace it with the correct default file.

When I try to go to safe mode, it works perfectly, till I have to log in, doesn't matter what I do after about 10 seconds it shuts down automaticly. Even if I logged in almost, it just shuts down right away after those 10 seconds. I already had this problem after a half year I had this PC (even after a few times formatting), and I have no idea why..
Someone told to run System Restore Wizard from 'Help and Support' in the start menu. But 'Help and Support' doesnt open. I click it but nothing happens. This is also since a while. The same problem with 'Search' and 'Run...'.
Does anyone know a way to fix one or both these problems? And is there another way to run a system restore?

running windows xp. purchased faz wizard(from multisource), downloaded software. continued to get error message regarding port problem. working with their support. seems to come down to ms fax wizard driver overrides new fax wizard driver. even went to dos prompt and removed ms fax driver and reinstalled software but still have ms fax driver overriding new driver. do i need to add a port? is it a driver problem? new to this, hope it makes sense.

I just recently ran in to a problem with the CD wizardof Windows XP.When I try to burn data on to a CD it keeps telling me to insert a disk into the drive, even though there is a disk in the machine.I have used other programs such as Musicmatch and HP's program called ecordnow and all work just fine.
I have tried to uninstall and then reinstall the drive but to no avail.

Every time I start my computer I get the "found new hardware wizard" even though I haven't installed any new hardware. i have 2 computers both gateways.one is a e-4200 xp home edition and the other is a 819 gm xp media center. i took the recovery disk from the media center and put it on my e-4200 computer thinking it would speed it up. well i was wrong. and now i want to take it off and i don't no how .i have been working on it for 2 days and i am still at the same spot where i was when i started. does any one no what i can do to resolve this probleam. i do not have the recovery disk for the e-4200 computer to restore it back .
