IIS Wont Run In Xp Right Or Wrong?
Jun 24, 2005I have been told that IIS will not run on WIndows XP Home. Is that right? Do I have to go out and buy Windows XP Pro?

Sfc - The CD You Provided Is The Wrong CD
Oct 7, 2005When I use Sfc within Windows 2000 pro the first message is Insert your Windows 2000 Professional CD now I insert the CD and then the message turns up the CD you provided is the wrong CD The CD is the one I just used to install the O/S. Another reason given in the message under more information is - the CD drive may not be working which it is.

Sep 16, 2007A few days ago I had to do a recovery to restore my laptop to the way it was when it left the factory. When I had finished the recovery and everything was working, the computer started to gradually get slower and slower the longer it was being used for. It eventually gets to the point where everything freezes and all windows or programs show "Not Responding" and it takes ages to close them down. When the computer is restarted, it is fine for a while, then gradually the same thing happens. I noticed the the CPU usage was over 50% while the computer was doing nothing except running. Sep 29, 2005We downloaded, by mistake I quickly learned, a online security suite from our ISP. With much help,we did a system restore but since, I can't save my passwords & sign in on my favorite forums etc. I have clicked auto complete in tools, options, content but it still keeps deleting the cookies w/o me doing it? May 16, 2006I tried the Restore XP Login Screen online tool. It checked my registry and pronounced things to be okay. The problem is that the screen itself is wrong. The malware (?) theme that was installed has replaced the default blue Welcome screen with its own. I found and deleted part of the problem, but the unwelcome ''welcome/login'' screen remains.If someone could just tell me where that Welcome/Login screen is kept and what its name is, I should be able to replace it with the correct default file.

Mar 19, 2006i have 2 computers both gateways.one is a e-4200 xp home edition and the other is a 819 gm xp media center. i took the recovery disk from the media center and put it on my e-4200 computer thinking it would speed it up. well i was wrong. and now i want to take it off and i don't no how .i have been working on it for 2 days and i am still at the same spot where i was when i started. does any one no what i can do to resolve this probleam. i do not have the recovery disk for the e-4200 computer to restore it back .

Dec 24, 2005My brother-in-law has been having nothing but trouble with his older WinXP machine, so he reinstalled the WinXP with SP2 included. Apparently, he inadvertently installed it to his back-up drive (D) rather than his main drive (C). Everything is working beauifully now. When he boots up the machine, it asks which drive he wants to boot from. He says D and off they go. The problem is that the D drive is only 5GB, of which about 850MB is left. I think he also reinstalled drivers and programs to the D drive.

Jan 22, 2009I have a Dell desktop computer with Windows XP. Everything had been working fine, up until 2 days ago. On Tuesday, I turned on my computer like usual and I noticed that my monitor was not normal. I could not see anything on my desktop. It was black. And also, the power button was blinking green every 3 seconds and would not stop, until I actually removed the plug from the surge protector. Yesterday the same thing happened when I turned on my computer, but today, when I turned it on, I could see my desktop and the power button was normal green and not blinking. I was happy, until I moved the mouse and the cursor was frozen. Now, it seems like my desktop monitor is fine, but my mouse isn't normal? I unplugged the mouse from the tower and plugged it back in, cleaned out the mouse, and it's still frozen.

Nov 7, 2008Recently I had a power outage in my dorm. My computer was on standby mode when it happened. The computer booted normally when the power came back and it ran fine. Then I put the computer in standby mode again because I had to go somewhere. I come back and resume from standby and instead of normally booting to the windows password log on screen, the computer restarts. Also, the LED light on my case that normally blinks on and off during standby, blinks briefly for the first few seconds and then disappears. This never happened before.
I have tried rebooting and shutting down the computer, but every time I go to standby and resume from standby, it restarts and then goes the windows log on screen. I have no idea what is going on. This problem did not happen before the power outage.

Dec 17, 2008I was trying to do a clean install with my Sister's PC because she messed it up so badly with adwares, spywares, and what-not.First, I tried to boot the XP Home cd but it didn't work. I don't even know if it's bootable?anyways, then I tried installing from Windows itself, which I later read was something I shouldn't have done.The install was going well, then it rebooted the PC. Now, I see an option to boot the XP cd.Specifically, before, I only had options to boot Windows XP Home and go into the Windows Recovery Console.I chose the XP setup and tried to delete the C: drive, but it said I couldn't. Then, I tried to delete the D: drive, and it worked. I tried once again to delete the C: drive to no prevail. So, I thought I'd restart the PC to see if it would change.And then it happened. It didn't start up with the XP setup option nor does it boot Windows. It just loops inself to the Windows XP Home logo, restart, rinse and repeat.

Jul 20, 2005I have been having a problem with a CD burner program attempting to install when I "right" click on one of my drives (A, C, D, E, or F) from the My Computer screen.An install application comes up and wants me to insert a disc so a program can install.What I want to do is get to the properties tab so I can see how much I have on the C drive.I am sure there is another way to do that so my real problem is in correcting whatever is causing this install to start whenever I right click on one of the drives.I have right clicked on other icons on the desktop and that functions properly, as well as two folders in the My Computer "folder".

Mar 31, 2006when i turned my on my pc everything was fine, i update and ran "ad-awareSE" to check my pc, it remove 3 files, finished.
then i launch "disk clean up" which is provided my windows orignally, to clean up my pc, i select everything on the list and i click ok so it would start removing the files, but then something strange happened.
as 'disk clean up' starts cleaning my system i noticed it's taking alot longer than usual, then all of a sudden a horrifying message pops up:
warning: system files found in windows have been change or have been replace by an unknown source, current system files are unstable and will cause stability issues, please insert "WINDOWS XP installation cd" into a cd rom drive, set up will fresh replace current files with ones from windows xp cd.-----
i click cancel and it warns me that my system will become unstable, no more warning message have pop up UNTIL i launch "disk clean up" again, i once again select everything in the list and click ok so it could began cleaning my system.
then the same message pops up again.
i decided to do what it tells me, i took out my windows XP SP2 cd, put it in the cd rom drive, and soon windows start reading the cd WHILE disk clean up starts cleaning my system.
there's no message telling me that windows is repairing my system files, all i see is "disc clean up" cleaning my pc AND AT THE SAME TIME my cd rom drive is reading my winXP cd.
after it's all over, i tdidn't tell me to restart my pc, but i did anyway and after that i ran 'disk clean up' and i didn't notice anything strange in windows, i ran 'disk clean up' again, and there was no more warning message, i ran disk cleanup for a few more times and everything was ok.
i first thought maybe it was because of a hacker attacking my pc and messing up my system files, but that's not possible becasue i activated "block traffic" in norton firewall 2005, plus i already updated norton antivirius 2005 with the latest definition, and use ad-aware to remove all tracs of spyware, so really, what what happen back then, what's wrong with my pc?

Wrong Disk Space Reported
Jul 13, 2005I have 2 HDD's in my computer, both partitioned up.In the 2nd HDD the first partition is 30gb, however windows reports it as total size 5GB, free space 4.75GB, I know that is wrong cause more than 5GB of data is on the drive. Disk defragementer shows it as:
Capacity: 5GB
Free Space: 5.22GB
% Free Space: 104%
Disk Management still shows the partition as 30gb, but how can I fix how windows sees it? (I'm worried that defragger might lose data as there is limited free space on it, and as its reporting space as 104%, it wont flag up a low space warning (15% and lower).

Mar 25, 2007Big Big problems on my system today. I believe (although its been denied) that a program was installed and uninstalled incorrectly on my system (by my teenage son). Besides having missing files and programs that won't start up, I am missing my start bar..the whole bar..at the bottom of the desktop/screen. Also, when I click on, say, IE to open up, it looks like it opens up then disappears. When I do a control-alt-delete, it looks like IE is up and running. Any ideas on how I can get my start bar back and programs to stop running "in the background"? I am running Win XP. Also I am unable to log on to Outlook to retrieve email.

Doesn't matter what I do, I can't seem to get the icon to switch to a Winamp icon in my music folder. I can switch the icon in Options and File Types to the winamp icon, but when I go to my music folder the icon is still for Nero Show Time. Even after I reboot it's still the same.

I have gone to the trouble page after the installation fails and complied with everything that they say could be wrong. AFAIK. have used End It All to close everything except the internet connections.The Windows Live Essentials does actually install. It begins by notifying me that there are no conflicting programs found. Then it installs the entire bundle of programs. Then when the overall status bar reaches 100%, the thing automatically Rolls Back everything until the status bar goes back down to 0% and the installation fails. This is really throwing me. How can the installation get to 100% and still fail?

The Photoshop icon is displayed in the Folder Options as it should be, and the files do open in Photoshop, but if I go to File > Open in Photoshop, all of these files have the Netscape icon. How do I make it so the Photoshop icon is displayed for these?
