I have this weird problem on my dell lappy. Everytime i reboot, HDD free space goes to some 46-49MB no matter how many movies and files i delete before reboot. First i ran chkdsk and later defragmented but still the problem wont go away.
View 8 RepliesI have an WD 80G HD which showed used and free space accurately. I just deleted 2 files about 15 gigs each, but it still reports the same free space as before I deleted the files. This happend also on a partition and I had to reformat that to restore proper free space.
View 2 Replies View RelatedIf I use any program other than windows explorer to check my HD space, it says about 20 gigs left, windows right now says 0kb on both c, d and e partitions. I run off e at the moment.A few days ago I deleted lots of files and just made a huge 15 gig txt file because I was bored... then I deleted the txt file and the space didnt change (I made sure it was deleted, I know the recycle bin doesnt do its job) and as the space didnt change I used a program called Rollback RX to rollback my HD to a few days ago. so I got my deleted files back (from before the txt file) and checked windows says I am running out of space.

My computer is about 2 years old. In those two years, I had to re-install Windows XP and everything else on my computer...for reasons unknown...I recently performed a New Installation of Windows XP on my computer. I don't have alot of things installed on my computer. The total space all the programs in my Add and Remove programs file takes up is only 1GB. Since I had to start over and re-install everything and my programs only add up to 1GB, Shouldn't I have more free space ?
The problem I'm having is, every week I do a scan disk and defrag. I've noticed that once defraged since a few weeks ago I HAVE GONE from over 70% free space down to only under 40%....I don't run any major software at the moment BUTDO use the internet on ADSL most days BUT not to any great extent. The only connection I can c is this copying Dig pix straight to disc...Am I right or is there sumthing else going on
View 4 Replies View Relatedi wanted to copy a cd image 4.18GB ISO format from partition F: NTFS 9GB free to partition D: (FAT32 12GB free space) and windows gives me that crap there is not enough space and i should do a disk clean up.
I made a disk clean up to partition D: and there was 3GB of system restore files!!! maybe coz i deleted 6GB earlier anyway i deleted the system restore files
Only NTFS partions can have files with file size more than 4GB..i hope theres nothing wrong with my windows or my hard disk..and i wanna know if theres a way to move that ISO image..thanx in advance.
I've noticed sometimes that the Free Space on my harddrives won't reflect changes I've made. For example, on my 28.6gb F: drive, I had about 586mb free. I just deleted a video file of about 700 mb, so it should be up to about 1.2 gb. Oddly enough, its still at 586mb.

Much to my dismay I cannot figure out why this would occur. We did make recovery disks and removed our partition some weeks ago. It seems our C drive is using up space without any explanation. Ran many different anti virus and spyware software and they did not detect anything.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have 2 HDD's in my computer, both partitioned up.In the 2nd HDD the first partition is 30gb, however windows reports it as total size 5GB, free space 4.75GB, I know that is wrong cause more than 5GB of data is on the drive. Disk defragementer shows it as:
Capacity: 5GB
Free Space: 5.22GB
% Free Space: 104%
Disk Management still shows the partition as 30gb, but how can I fix how windows sees it? (I'm worried that defragger might lose data as there is limited free space on it, and as its reporting space as 104%, it wont flag up a low space warning (15% and lower).
I had to uninstall HP Photosmart C4100 series only because I was missing some wording on the buttons that just disappeared for some reason, It said to uninstall the program and then just reinstall it.
Well now, when I go to reinstall, it will not automatically start so I clicked on my computer and dvd-rw Drive (E and there are no files, in fact it states that my my file system is CDFS and the CDA Default - Full It says all space used 672 MB and Free Space 0 Bytes
when I right click C: and check the disk usuage is shows me 3.52Gb in use. However, when I select all the contents of the C:( including the hidden files ) it show me 2.52Gb.
View 8 Replies View Relatedhi, I'm using Windows XP Home Edition, and I laptop has only 5 more GB left in my hard drive! when I tried deleted unnecessary files and the free disk space go up. But when I tried deleting actual programs from Add/Remove Programs, the free disk space just stay the same! I know the programs I deleted must total up to at least 2 GB. I tried a different approach. I installed a new program and the free disk space decreased. then I unistalled the same said program, but the free disk space didn't go back up! I tried to using Disk Cleanup, but it didn't work! Can anyone please tell me what's wrong and how to fix it?

When I loaded XP on this partition perhaps a year ago, it had plenty of space. Now it's full. I've run the usual XP disk cleanup helper, deleted everything in any temp file I can find, cleaned out prefetch, moved all the NTUninstall folders to a different partition. Uninstalled unused apps, since I know they leave stuff in C: even though I've installed them somewhere else). I gained nearly 400MB when I did that, but now the space is back down to 80MB in less than a week. Where is all this bloat coming from? What can I do to trim it back down to size? Yea, I have PartitionMagic (old, v8), but I'd rather just trim the excess, if that's possible. I get nervous moving partitions around.

View 11 Replies View RelatedWindows XP uses a file called hiperfil.sys to save everything it needs when Windows XP goes into hibernation. If you are like me, and never use the hibernate function, you can turn it off. By turning hibernate off, Windows XP deletes the hiberfil.sys. This can free up the as much disk space as the amount of ram that you computer has.Go to Control Panel/Power Options/Hibernation and untick the box. It's as easy as that. Now you will have plenty more disk space to install those mega programs!

It keeps giving me a "Cannot copy file. not enough free disk space. Delete one or more files to free up space then try again"... error.I've rebooted, and I am sure there is more than 4GB free on the hard drive. Any ideas? Is there some max size for a file that you can transfer to a hard drive? I've never heard of that.. but I guess anything is possible.

Now, for the past 8 months, i've been editing & burning DVD's and films using editing software like Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5, etc, and i've never had a problem. I've always had at least 50 GBs (or so i believe) of free space at any given moment when messing around with that stuff. When editing today, I was alerted that my local disk C was running low, and once i agreed to do a 'clean-up' of some sort to remove temporary internet files & offlines files, etc, i got a problem. Suddenly, my system was unstable and I had 3 MB of free space.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been having a problem for the last few weeks. As I work on my computer the free space on my C drive decreases drastically. My drive is partitioned between C & D. When I restart, all my free space comes back. I just had to restart because I was down to 80 K. When I started I had 16.5G available. It's been about 2 hours and I'm down to 15G. I've run my anti-virus. About the time it started I installed a back up hard drive (which is intermittently attached to this laptop) and WD anywhere backup software.
