View 6 RepliesI recently had to do a system restore and now my .jpg and jpeg files have a bad file icon. They still do open with the windows pic program as I want them to - but only on the admin accout, I usually surf and play and do everything else with a user account, and even if I reset everything under folder options for the file associacions it somehow doesn't apply to the other account.
windows tells me in the file association menu that I changed the file association's properties and can set them back to standart "photo suite 6" - a program that I uninstalled ages ago
When I right-click on files to download the 'save target as' option is not there... Its not grayed in, its just not there. It works on some sites but not most. The site says that I have to download doing that and there is no other way.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently installed Win XP with SP2. After this, I am not able to save files using the "Save Target As" option in the Right click menu. For files with extensions like .exe and .zip clicking on the link opens a window that asks if I want to run the program or Save. If I select Save, I am able to save the file. But for files like .pdf I am not able to save because clicking on the link opens the Acrobat Reader plug in and the file opens in the internet explorer. How do I save pdf files?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI recently had to reinstall everything following a virus which locked me out of my pc. However since then, if I try and download certain .wmv files with Internet Explorer, they will not play on Media Player 10. These files worked absolutely fine before the reboot. I tried downloading the same files with a p2p program and they work with no problems with Media Player. Is there something I can do to reconfigure the way explorer downloads things, as I really want to be able to do things as I did before. I'm pretty sure it's an IE problem rather than a codec because as mentioned, the files work just fine when I download them with a different method rather than 'Save Target As'.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Does anyone know how to create a folder that has a target in Windows XP? It has been done on some of our machines, but I am having trouble recreating it. The folder appears in the start menu and has an arrow next to it so you can mouse to the folder and the menu of links shows up next to it. This gives a cleaner look than putting a shortcut on the start menu.

View 2 Replies View RelatedThe issue is that on web pages with multiple frames, if I click a link in one frame that is supposed to open in another frame, it opens full-page instead. This began occuring after I installed the monthly Windows Security Update in June.It is machine independent as it affects all 3 of my machines. All 3 are running XP SP 2. It is browser-independent as it happens in both IE and Firefox. It is webpage/app-independent, also. This happenes on many different sites, not just one.

View 1 Replies View RelatedAfter I updated some programs to their most recent versions (adobe flash player 10, java 6 update 11) all of a sudden the option 'save target as' just disappeared in my options when I right click on my mouse and for instance want to save a .doc or .pdf file I see online. I'm using Firefox 3.0.4, but the option is also not possible when I try to do this with Google Chrome or Internet Explorer (A related problem (I think) is that from that moment onwards I was also not able anymore to download doc and pdf files in Firefox that were sent to me on my gmail account. I could download these files when opening gmail in Google Chrome however.)How do i get my 'save target as' function back?

View 2 Replies View RelatedA few days ago I had to do a recovery to restore my laptop to the way it was when it left the factory. When I had finished the recovery and everything was working, the computer started to gradually get slower and slower the longer it was being used for. It eventually gets to the point where everything freezes and all windows or programs show "Not Responding" and it takes ages to close them down. When the computer is restarted, it is fine for a while, then gradually the same thing happens. I noticed the the CPU usage was over 50% while the computer was doing nothing except running. Please someone give me some idea of what's wrong,

View 1 Replies View RelatedI tried the Restore XP Login Screen online tool. It checked my registry and pronounced things to be okay. The problem is that the screen itself is wrong. The malware (?) theme that was installed has replaced the default blue Welcome screen with its own. I found and deleted part of the problem, but the unwelcome ''welcome/login'' screen remains. If someone could just tell me where that Welcome/Login screen is kept and what its name is, I should be able to replace it with the correct default file.

Apparently, he inadvertently installed it to his back-up drive (D) rather than his main drive (C). Everything is working beauifully now. When he boots up the machine, it asks which drive he wants to boot from. He says D and off they go. The problem is that the D drive is only 5GB, of which about 850MB is left. I think he also reinstalled drivers and programs to the D drive.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell desktop computer with Windows XP. Everything had been working fine, up until 2 days ago. On Tuesday, I turned on my computer like usual and I noticed that my monitor was not normal. I could not see anything on my desktop. It was black. And also, the power button was blinking green every 3 seconds and would not stop, until I actually removed the plug from the surge protector. Yesterday the same thing happened when I turned on my computer, but today, when I turned it on, I could see my desktop and the power button was normal green and not blinking. I was happy, until I moved the mouse and the cursor was frozen. Now, it seems like my desktop monitor is fine, but my mouse isn't normal? I unplugged the mouse from the tower and plugged it back in, cleaned out the mouse, and it's still frozen.
View 4 Replies View RelatedRecently I had a power outage in my dorm. My computer was on standby mode when it happened. The computer booted normally when the power came back and it ran fine. Then I put the computer in standby mode again because I had to go somewhere. I come back and resume from standby and instead of normally booting to the windows password log on screen, the computer restarts. Also, the LED light on my case that normally blinks on and off during standby, blinks briefly for the first few seconds and then disappears. This never happened before.
I have tried rebooting and shutting down the computer, but every time I go to standby and resume from standby, it restarts and then goes the windows log on screen. I have no idea what is going on. This problem did not happen before the power outage.
when i load my laptop, below is how it looks. my icons are wrong, they don't have names - right click doesn't show information and my start bar is out of whack. to resolve it i just reselect windows xp theme. - though again, every time i restart the laptop i'm in the same situation..it has seemed to move over to some of my browsers, it seems like only firefox will work - and some things are still off. for instance the images below - the game was loaded in ff w/ ie tab extension, and google chrome - and the Internet video has been loaded in ff

View 1 Replies View RelatedI was trying to do a clean install with my Sister's PC because she messed it up so badly with adwares, spywares, and what-not.First, I tried to boot the XP Home cd but it didn't work. I don't even know if it's bootable?anyways, then I tried installing from Windows itself, which I later read was something I shouldn't have done. The install was going well, then it rebooted the PC. Now, I see an option to boot the XP cd.Specifically, before, I only had options to boot Windows XP Home and go into the Windows Recovery Console.I chose the XP setup and tried to delete the C: drive, but it said I couldn't. Then, I tried to delete the D: drive, and it worked. I tried once again to delete the C: drive to no prevail. So, I thought I'd restart the PC to see if it would change. And then it happened. It didn't start up with the XP setup option nor does it boot Windows. It just loops inself to the Windows XP Home logo, restart, rinse and repeat.
