View 9 RepliesI accidentally clicked "have windows remember this password",however the password I entered was incorrect. I'm using IE6
I would like to be able to change it without erasing all the other passwords that I have stored.
I know how to do this in Netscape but I don't know how to do it in IE.
When I sign on windows with the right password, it works just fine and everything loads up. However, when I happen to type out my massive password wrong the following error comes up:MCI Command Handling Window: winlogon.exe.The instruction at 0x0179116e reference memory at 0x0070ffff. The memory could not be read.I'm running XPPro. I recently reformatted my entire PC and I've never had this happen before reinstalling XP. I don't know what specifically the error stems from cause I installed so much stuff in one day. It was all the same stuff I've had on the PC before. Other accounts across the net, however, did NOT also reformat, so I'm thinking it must be something to do with a virus or some error in SP2 or windows update. I've done a virus scan and found nothing.

There was a count down of about 15 seconds before the screen went black. There was no "clue" as to what to do during the count down. I had used the computer the day before with no problems. The OS is "2000."

Have noticed the internet explorer is now displaying it's wrong icon on my program shortcuts [That is = Start = Programs = say - Legacy Family Tree = and there they are showing as a white back ground with small dots coloured, Red , blue and green? [think is green?]I have used in Power Tools the "Icon Repair" and still same icon is showing
I recently had to do a system restore and now my .jpg and jpeg files have a bad file icon. They still do open with the windows pic program as I want them to - but only on the admin accout, I usually surf and play and do everything else with a user account, and even if I reset everything under folder options for the file associacions it somehow doesn't apply to the other account.
windows tells me in the file association menu that I changed the file association's properties and can set them back to standart "photo suite 6" - a program that I uninstalled ages ago
How can I get past the logon message screen when it is asking for a password
and I have never had a password. I did a Window-Washer and rebooted and it
is saying I need a password to get in.
I've been having this trouble for about a couple of weeks now and it started to get annoying. First of all, everytime I open up a folder then closes it, I get this error:Explorer.exe error information then, after getting the option to debug that error,Any ideas on what my problem is on how to fix it? If more information needed, please let me know. Much thanks.

If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost.
Lately I'm getting the "I.E. has encountered a problem and needs to close" message so of course I lose what I had open and have to start over. It's not doing it constantly or consistant on the same websites but it is at least a few to several times a day now. It seems to do it most often when leaving a site and trying to go back to whatever preceeded it especially if I click the back button more than once(unnecessary habit I know).
Here is the info shown for the problem:
APPname:iexplorer.exe Appver 6.0.2900.2180 Modname ntdll.dll
Modver:5.1.2600.2180 offset:0003426d
The offset # is the only one that is different each time it comes up.
* I've ran the Norton system scan a few times( just their regular version, not their registry cleaner)
* ran CW Schredder
* ran Ad Aware
* Keep Spyware Blaster up to date
* and tried CCcleaner
None of which made any difference.
When send information to the internet, it might be possible for others to see that information. do you want to continue

View 5 Replies View RelatedFor a good while my HDD has been making really unhappy noises when cold booting. It sounds fine the rest of the time, including restarts and even reboots from off if the PC hasn't been switched off very long. Yet no major problems flagged in HDDLife or Event Manager. Then a couple of months ago my PC fell rather uniquely ill. Not only was there increased thrashing in explorer.exe, but direct-accessing drives and folders (either double-clicking or choosing the FIRST option in the right-click menu, regardless of what it was) caused an instant CTD as explorer crashed with an odd error message.
