Programs Slow To Respond: Takes A Long Time To Respond?
Aug 23, 2005When I open programs they are slow to respond. I click on the icon but it seems to take for ever to open up but I don't know why.They use to open up fairly quickly before and nothing has changed.

Additional Printer Icons In Printer/Faxes Window?
Mar 24, 2007In the printer and faxes window there are printer icons listed in addition to my default HP Printer. Whiy are they listed there and what do they do since you can't use them...or can you and if so, how? Two that are listed on my computer are:

Aug 24, 2005I bought a new HP printer today. I had a hotfix installed at some point that shutdown and woke up my printer at shutdown and startup. The new printer isn't affected by this hotfix. Does anyone know where I can get this patch?

Mar 14, 2009Two custom PCs with XP Pro at same SP level. PC1 sees printer through switch. PC2 can not see printer. PC2 connects and sees printer when I cable the USB DIRECTLY to the printer instead of going thru a switch. Therefore, I know PC2 can print. Have tried 2 different switches. An A/B data switch and Belkin's 4x1 USB Peripheral Switch F1U401. PC1 works with both switches but PC2 does not.

Jun 3, 2009We've had to change our address space and therefore the printer address has changed. I've changed the address on all but one computer. On this particular computer when I try to edit the TCP/IP port I get the message:
"An error occurred during port configuration. Access is denied."
If I try to create a new port I can select that I want it to be a Standard TCP/IP Port and then it tells me:
"Specified port cannot be added. Access is denied."

Aug 17, 2005I have connected 3 new PC's on a P2P network, and connected a HP 4610 Color Laser Printer via a JetDirect 175 print server. On one PC, I can only print from the Administrator account. The other 2 computers work fine. On the one that is having issues, when printing a test page I receive a "Failed to Print" error mesage, and looking in the printer jobs menu, it shows that there was an error printing. The
Administrator account can print fine from this machine.
The user accounts are "restricted user" accounts on all 3 computers.
All 3 computers are exactly the same type, and all have the latest
updates.

At startup a program is launched called "Desktop Search" which puts a small search window just above my system tray. This program does not work and will not respond when trying to close the program from the Task Manager. The program is not listed in "ADD/REMOVE Software" in the control panel. Freeze Up - Computer Don't Respond
Apr 19, 2005I am currently running Windows XP. My other half was logged on and he surfs a lot of music sites for latest releases. After one of his uses we started to get this message when we would try to switch users MediaAcck.exe and the computer freezes. It asked you to click cancel or OK and doing either does nothing you also cannot close out by hitting the x in the upper right hand side. The computer does not respond to control alt delete and the only way you can get out of this is to manually shut the computer down. Again the only time it happens is if you are switching log on users. I have run the latest McAfee virus scan it picks up nothing - I also ran spybot and it also comes up with nothing. I ran a search for this file on my c drive and it does not show it exist at all. I am unsure as what to do next

Oct 2, 2006When I go to turn off my computer or restart it, it tries to end task for the iexplore.exe. It will say the program is not responding and the computer won't turn off or restart like I asked it to. Also, when I open up my task manager and look in processes I see that iexplorer.exe is still running when I don't have any IE windows open at all. And the strange thing is I can't end task it and there's multiples of them. May 14, 2008I know I am behind the times, but I just now upgraded from SP1 to SP2 due to some of the anti-virus and firewall software upgrades only being compatible with SP2. SP1 ran great. After upgrading, tweaking the services, and a few other things my computer is still lagging. It takes 4 times longer to boot up w/SP2 and even after that is slow to respond for at least 5 minutes. I have always tweaked my pcs to boot faster and not have unnecessary things running. I've done everything I did in the past and still SP2 is slow.This basically sucks. When logged onto the internet, responses, page changes and other commands are very fast, and links connect with very little delay. The problem is with trying to start up and log on, and do other work on the system. Sloooow. Also I have Skype 4.0 installed, and wanted to Uninstall it in order to add the latest Skype. Jun 26, 2006I'm using Windows XP on my Dell Laptop Latitude 1000 Mhz. I have Norton Antivirus 2006 installed too. The computer boots fine, and shuts down fine as well. However, often, when an application like Internet Explorer, or Outlook Express is run, the computer hangs/stops to respond. The CTRL+ALT+Del doesn't work as well. After sometime, all of those windows appear all of a sudden those were triggered in the phase when the computer was held/frozen. Then it runs fine for sometime, but it happens often during one session of Windows.
