Every time, when I click on an icon (For programs) on the desktop, it does not respond at any way- not even right clicking and press open. To just open the icons - I have to press as much as possible until it opens.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a weird issue (relatively minor one) concerning my system tray on my XP SP3 installation. This has gone on for several months (if not years) now on my custom computer. I am pretty good at computing in general, but this stumps me right now and then! (please view my computing specs if you can see them, if not PM me.)Apparently, whenever I click on any icon in my system tray on the start bar, it will usually show the right click menu for the TASK BAR. Does this make any sense? I wish this would not happen. If anyone knows how to resolve/fix/stop this, please reply to this thread, please. Thanks!!! I am running a genuine (valid) copy of XP SP3, with all updates. I do not run any illegal modifications or otherwise illegitimate software at this time, so that is not the cause of this at all. my dying WinXP system sometimes can be coaxed into booting as far as the recovery console or even into Windows (5 or 6 successive reboots, couple of CHDSKs and so on).Will not boot into Safe Mode(hangs after dumping a page of file names)Will not go back to Last Known Good Config Will not go back to any Restore Points I Have given up on it ....and will go for a complete re-install next ... but I would love to be able to grab some files before I kill it off.
Is there some way I can (forgive the terminology) 'stop the system' the second it passes the Windows Log In screen, it sometimes makes it this far but will not complete installation of all apps etc before dying. I just need basic functionality for 15 minutes to copy some files or maybe there is a way to find the files once in Recovery Console?
I am currently having a problem trying to access My Computer, I will double click on the desktop icon and it wont open. All my desktop icons will disappear along with my task bar for a few seconds then reappear. then nothing will happen as if i never clicked it in the first place. I've tried accessing it through the start menu but to no avail. the rest of my desktop icons work but for some reason i cant get into My Computer. Is this a virus perhaps?
View 12 Replies View RelatedI remember few days ago.. my kaspersky identified some system file as a trojan.. so it probably a misunderstanding when i was installing system mechanic. it got deleted.. and i have this automatic option to delete them after they are put in backup in kaspersky.
now whenever i open my pc, my desktop and taskbar and start menu,etc goes away after a few seconds! Now i rely on the task manager..

Somebody told me its a bug in Windows where you clicked only once, but Windows think you have double clicked.
View 2 Replies View Relatedusing windows xp media edition. when I click on things on my screen my computor sometimes works ok but sometimes doulbe clicks or triple clicks and sometimes clicks up to five times by itself I don't understand why this happens. Is it possible I have some type of virus that is causing this multi-clicking of the mouse when I only click once. I did a full system scan with Norton and nothing is found.

At startup a program is launched called "Desktop Search" which puts a small search window just above my system tray. I am currently running Windows XP. My other half was logged on and he surfs a lot of music sites for latest releases. After one of his uses we started to get this message when we would try to switch users MediaAcck.exe and the computer freezes. It asked you to click cancel or OK and doing either does nothing you also cannot close out by hitting the x in the upper right hand side. The computer does not respond to control alt delete and the only way you can get out of this is to manually shut the computer down. Again the only time it happens is if you are switching log on users. I have run the latest McAfee virus scan it picks up nothing - I also ran spybot and it also comes up with nothing. I ran a search for this file on my c drive and it does not show it exist at all. I am unsure as what to do next

View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen I go to turn off my computer or restart it, it tries to end task for the iexplore.exe. It will say the program is not responding and the computer won't turn off or restart like I asked it to. Also, when I open up my task manager and look in processes I see that iexplorer.exe is still running when I don't have any IE windows open at all. And the strange thing is I can't end task it and there's multiples of them. View 4 Replies View RelatedCouple new things. I've been using win98 for the past 7 years, but now have 2 new items a mouse with a scroll wheel and win xp pro. I've dug thru just about everything I could find to see if I could get this mouse to respond when I move it. But so far nothing. It sits there I'm guessing just to make sure the mouse actually moved for justthe annoyance factor length of time. then it jerks and catches up. Other than this nothing wrong with the mouse.How do I get it to move when I move ?

View 11 Replies View RelatedI know I am behind the times, but I just now upgraded from SP1 to SP2 due to some of the anti-virus and firewall software upgrades only being compatible with SP2. SP1 ran great. After upgrading, tweaking the services, and a few other things my computer is still lagging. It takes 4 times longer to boot up w/SP2 and even after that is slow to respond for at least 5 minutes. I have always tweaked my pcs to boot faster and not have unnecessary things running. I've done everything I did in the past and still SP2 is slow.This basically sucks. It would be so great if MS didn't have a monopoly on OS's.I have a couple of older pcs that I run a couple versions of Linux on and they run fast and flawless

I was thinking of just resetting the bios. Do you think that would work or is it something deeper? The computer is a Dell Desktop running XP Pro SP2.

It does not respond when trying to start (F8) in safe mode etc. What should I do? I am not really tech-savy..I also cannot explain why this thing happened. Is this a virus/malware? it happened after i connected an external hard disk of a friend to my laptop last night. When logged onto the internet, responses, page changes and other commands are very fast, and links connect with very little delay. The problem is with trying to start up and log on, and do other work on the system. Sloooow. Also I have Skype 4.0 installed, and wanted to Uninstall it in order to add the latest Skype. However when I try to uninstall via Add/Remove in Control Panel I get an Error message " Network Error occurred while trying to read file C:\WindowsinstallerSkype.msi" I get this even if I try to install the new Skype over the old (4.0). What seems to be the problem?

Related / unrelated - I have seen CPU/memory max out as well - though not always. I have a 1.5 GB of RAM, and have seen this when not heck of a lot is going on. I am unsure if it is a virus issue or is it something that has to do with windows explorer issues, which I have seen a few threads on on the net.
I'm using Windows XP on my Dell Laptop Latitude 1000 Mhz. I have Norton Antivirus 2006 installed too. The computer boots fine, and shuts down fine as well. However, often, when an application like Internet Explorer, or Outlook Express is run, the computer hangs/stops to respond. The CTRL+ALT+Del doesn't work as well. After sometime, all of those windows appear all of a sudden those were triggered in the phase when the computer was held/frozen. Then it runs fine for sometime, but it happens often during one session of Windows.
