When I open programs they are slow to respond. I click on the icon but it seems to take for ever to open up but I don't know why.They use to open up fairly quickly before and nothing has changed.
View 6 Replies View RelatedEvery now and then my PC (WinXP, Soltek MB) will pause at boot up after showing the two optical devices (first is a CDRW, second is a DVDRW) with the message after identifying the two optical drives "Boot from atapi ROM". Within a second or two it continues to boot up and everything seems normal EXCEPT when you push the DVD drive button, although its light comes on the drawer does not open! A re-start has always cured it. Consulting the various items in XP tellls me the "device is working normally".
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have this major problem where my comp runs uber-slow untill I uninstall all the ATP/ATAPI controllers from my Device Manager and reboot. But the moment I reboot Windows reinstalls them again and after my next reboot my data transfer, and my comp in general is slow again.I have no clue as to why my comp runs fine without those controllers, but the moment they auto-install my comp becomes slow and jerky again.

It crashes for no apparant reason and is annoying the hell out of me.When it blue screens I have been getting repeated 0x000000d1 codes but with different driver locations. I have either getting usbport.sys or atapi.sys. Atapi.sys seems to be the more common of the two. I tried running System File Checker (sfc) and got 99% through before is BSOD again!I have examined the screeds of info on the Microsoft website and nothing looks overly relevant or matches the symptoms I have been experencing.

I can not find any posting on the web about the following error.I am using dell inspiron 9300 running xp pro sp2.downloaded trial prevx from the web and when double clicked on the file to install, windows dataprotection message appeared to prevent instalation. Cpu was active, I quickly started system restore. The system will not boot to windows or access safe mode or any other mode. Tried microsoft article 307545 but the system started to go into loop and will not boot to any mode even though the blue screen is hardly visible now.

I tried with all the usb ports on this computer and problem is the same. Even by hooking up a usb keyboard or mouse, computer wont get to the login screen. it keeps on restarting. At startup a program is launched called "Desktop Search" which puts a small search window just above my system tray. This program does not work and will not respond when trying to close the program from the Task Manager. The program is not listed in "ADD/REMOVE Software" in the control panel. I have run both ADAWARE-SE and SPYBOT S&D, and have not had any results. I am currently running Windows XP. My other half was logged on and he surfs a lot of music sites for latest releases. After one of his uses we started to get this message when we would try to switch users MediaAcck.exe and the computer freezes. It asked you to click cancel or OK and doing either does nothing you also cannot close out by hitting the x in the upper right hand side. The computer does not respond to control alt delete and the only way you can get out of this is to manually shut the computer down. Again the only time it happens is if you are switching log on users. I have run the latest McAfee virus scan it picks up nothing - I also ran spybot and it also comes up with nothing. I ran a search for this file on my c drive and it does not show it exist at all. I am unsure as what to do next

View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen I go to turn off my computer or restart it, it tries to end task for the iexplore.exe. It will say the program is not responding and the computer won't turn off or restart like I asked it to. Also, when I open up my task manager and look in processes I see that iexplorer.exe is still running when I don't have any IE windows open at all. And the strange thing is I can't end task it and there's multiples of them. I've dug thru just about everything I could find to see if I could get this mouse to respond when I move it. But so far nothing. View 11 Replies View RelatedI know I am behind the times, but I just now upgraded from SP1 to SP2 due to some of the anti-virus and firewall software upgrades only being compatible with SP2. SP1 ran great. After upgrading, tweaking the services, and a few other things my computer is still lagging. It takes 4 times longer to boot up w/SP2 and even after that is slow to respond for at least 5 minutes. I have always tweaked my pcs to boot faster and not have unnecessary things running. I've done everything I did in the past and still SP2 is slow.This basically sucks. It would be so great if MS didn't have a monopoly on OS's.I have a couple of older pcs that I run a couple versions of Linux on and they run fast and flawless

I have deleted and it restalled the drived after the system rebooted. Device manager still saying unknown device. Their is not driver needed according to the manufacture. When the PC is booting it does see the IPOD mini and the Flash drive. But once the PC is fully out and login and I look a the device manager is still reporting unlnown device error (code 10).
View 1 Replies View RelatedI had some trouble last night and today with getting rid of a virus. Now that it is gone, I am having sound problems (maybe related, maybe not). This morning, when I opened iTunes I got a message that there was no audio device detected. After trying several things, I rebooted. Magically, I could play music again. However, a short while later, I again got an error message telling me that there is no audio device found, even though it shows up in Device Manager as working properly. The problem goes away for a short time after I reboot, but returns. It is Realtek AC 97. Why won't my computer keep recognizing it? (It tried going to Realtek's site to download an update. It has updates for Windows 98, 95, etc., but not for XP. Or at least I couldn't find it.)

Tried Realtek audio and HD audio, tried Intel, didn't work. Tried NVidia, as it has an NVidia motherboard. Spent too much time on this computer. Can anyone lend a hand? I've searched forums half the night since this drive contains financial data that hasn't been backed up for a month (yes, bad practice, I know) and I need to get it working. When logged onto the internet, responses, page changes and other commands are very fast, and links connect with very little delay. The problem is with trying to start up and log on, and do other work on the system. Sloooow. Also I have Skype 4.0 installed, and wanted to Uninstall it in order to add the latest Skype. Related / unrelated - I have seen CPU/memory max out as well - though not always. I have a 1.5 GB of RAM, and have seen this when not heck of a lot is going on. I am unsure if it is a virus issue or is it something that has to do with windows explorer issues, which I have seen a few threads on on the net.
I'm using Windows XP on my Dell Laptop Latitude 1000 Mhz. I have Norton Antivirus 2006 installed too. The computer boots fine, and shuts down fine as well. However, often, when an application like Internet Explorer, or Outlook Express is run, the computer hangs/stops to respond. The CTRL+ALT+Del doesn't work as well. After sometime, all of those windows appear all of a sudden those were triggered in the phase when the computer was held/frozen. Then it runs fine for sometime, but it happens often during one session of Windows.
