Want Xp Home Back After Xp Media
Mar 20, 2009I was using XP Home, and decided to try XP Media Center. I hate it. How do I go about uninstalling MC so that I can have Home again? Thanks.

Mar 5, 2007all clients woke up and turned on their cpu only to have it hang on the 'black screen' just after the windows splash screen but just before the logon window. None of the <f8> options work. I booted with a genuine xp disk to drop to recovery console and performed various chkdsk /r commands as well as fixboot and fixmbr - no change.There are no errors, no blue screens, nothing to followup on. I even loaded the laptops hard drive into a tower as a secondary primary and scanned for pests viruses and the ilk - for the most part -clean

Jan 1, 2007I am working with my son to build a new computer. We need to decide which Microsoft operating system to buy / install. We have a new ASUS motherboard and an Intel Pentium D 3.4GHz (dual core 64 bit). We also have a PCI express 16 graphics card. His primary use is gaming and also MS office applications for school.I have pretty much ruled out XP Pro 64 because I am reading about lack of application and driver support, but open to input on this.We need to choose between XP home, XP Media center, or XP pro (all 32 bit). I am not particularly concerned about Vista upgrade, although I do understand the upgrade path from XP Media includes the full graphical interface improvements in Vista Aero, and the upgrade from XP Home does not.

Mar 21, 2008a while back i got tired of vista.but never uninstalled it because i never had the disk well now i have a disc that i think will work.its the xp home edition reinstallation disc, but its from a desktop computer.this leads to my first question. will it work with the laptop im wanting to put xp on? if i can get past that. i don't have the blue dell disc that contains driver, utilities, and applications from the xp computer. i have the ones from my dell laptop which is vista. will i be able to use those disc, or download the drivers and what not from the dell site once xp is on here.?

I wanted to get XP back, so I installed it and then the system was dual booting and it took up 85% of my hard drive. SO...I tried to reformat it and just install XP, but the only disk i had was for my (gateway xp media center) desk top so none of my dirvers installed and then the whole thing became a big mess. Now, I have XP installled with most of the drivers installed, but now I miss Vista, and when I try to install with my Vista recovery disk, I get an error: can not install install missing or corrupt file e:sourcesinstall.wim error 0x80070570... or something similar to that. I have been at this for days on end.

Aug 9, 2007Isn't the problem going from vista back to xp an sata driver problem? If you would disable sata native mode then boot from the xp cd it should show the hard drive and any partitions. The biggest chore may be getting the drivers needed for XP and if is a laptop they rarely come with a floppy drive, so during the xp install I don't know if after you press F6 if you can remove the xp cd and put in a cd that you burned the needed drivers to if a floppy is not available. People should have the freedom to choose whatever operating system they want without all of the headaches

Sep 18, 2007Having recently had someone else using my computer for a while, installing various software (like winamp and SubEdit player) it seems windows media player (that's what I use) no longer recognises the usual files as media files like .mp3 .wmv .m3u .avi etc etc so when I click open file and select "media files (all types)" in the file type box it shows nothing, so I have to change it to all files which is irritating. Media player still plays everything fine but this is pretty annoying.

Aug 1, 2008Since installing SP3 my media centre will not open although the rest of XP runs fine. I get a report 'Strong name validation failed for assembly 'C:Windowsehomeehshell.exe. The file may have been tampered with or it was partially signed but not fully signed with the correct private key.I have the original installation disk from Dell, but it won't recognise the key that came with the pc to re install it. Is there any way I can repair the file in question. I have tried uninstalling sp3, and using the recovery program, but nothing is working to make it work again.

When I click it just loops back and throws back up the window, asking me to click the user name again.How I can access the registry and reset the userinit.exe file?I've tried selecting "last good configuration" which didn't work.I also tried to download Bart PE on another machine (running Vista) to set up a boot CD, but it wasn't particularly clear how to go about it, so I tried using the XP System Recovery app on the install disks. Home And Pro Not Playing Nice Together Via Home Wifi?
Jul 2, 2009I'm trying to share folders between two laptops set up on a home wifi workgroup. Currently, both laptops are "seeing" each other's share folders (as mapped network drives), and both laptops have full internet access I have allowed simple file sharing on the XP Pro system. I have also set the firewalls to allow access, and I'm using AVG firewall instead of Windows firewall.However, only one of the computers is allowing access to the other. The XP Pro computer can access the share folders on the XP Home computer, but not vice versa. When using the XP Home computer, I can map the shared folders on the XP Pro computer, but when I try to access them, I get denied access.
