Just got a new pc with windows xp home sp2... when I open up windows all the icons are really big! and when I go on the internet the pages are too big for the screen. this was not the case with my previous PC also with xp home sp2.
ou can go to windows explorer and access C drive or D drive or the others but when you open My Computer-where it usually had the C:drive and the cd-rom drive etc it just shows the little flashlite lookiing for them but never finds them. Is there something I can do to get the icons back into my computer?
I tried to establish clear Icons on the desktop via this path: Ctrl Panel > System Advance Tab > Check "Use drop shadows for Icon labelson the desktop" > ReBoot. This does not work. Can this be changed in the Registry and if so, how ? OS XP HOME SP 2
I am trying to set up a home network to connect my laptop (with xp pro) to my desktop (with xp home) i am using a 3com office conect router as a hub. With the fire walls on each machine switched off I can see each of the machines from each other.I can share files on the laptop with the desktop, but when I try to access the desktop from the laptop I get the following message : xxxxxxx is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Login Failure : the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer.
I'm trying to share folders between two laptops set up on a home wifi workgroup. Currently, both laptops are "seeing" each other's share folders (as mapped network drives), and both laptops have full internet access I have allowed simple file sharing on the XP Pro system. I have also set the firewalls to allow access, and I'm using AVG firewall instead of Windows firewall. However, only one of the computers is allowing access to the other. The XP Pro computer can access the share folders on the XP Home computer, but not vice versa. When using the XP Home computer, I can map the shared folders on the XP Pro computer, but when I try to access them, I get denied access.
All right as the tread title says I've been experiencing some big massive lag issues. In fact as I type this it's taking 5 mins just to view the text.I consider my setup a pretty nice one that shouldn't be doing this due to it's fairly new.Now I've been looking at my Task manager and been noticing some pretty big CPU spikes. raging from 44% to 75%!. Now I thought at first if I where to reformatting my HD and reinstall windows this would fix the problem. Well it didn't do anything but Erse my files I had.
Recently I've noticed that there are strange tasks when I control/alt/delete to see what is eating up my virtual memory. The task list will contain TWO Iexplore tasks, whatever those are. NOW I have this lag that occurs every 5-8 seconds like I have some massive drain on my system resources. It literally freezes my cursor for a second or so every 5-8 seconds.
Whilst attempting to upgrade Ad-Aware I clicked that button and was taken to Cnet. On clicking download a window advised that I needed Hebrew language to make the thing work. There was no option so I thought it must be part of the new version Ad-Aware but immediately I had accepted it, Windows File Protection said " files that are required for Windows to run properly have been replaced by unrecognised versions" etc Insert Windows XP Home Edition SP3 CD. Since SP3 was installed as an upgrade,Would System Restore mend this problem? I made a new restoration point this month. My last backup disc was 18 long mths ago. I don't know how to make a CD of SP3 so what's the easiest way of sorting this out. BTW, my pc hasn't been restarted.
Alright here is my problem,i have 2 OS on my pc one is XP home which i use and XP pro which i dont use,the reason they are both on there is because i had a virus that deleted my NTloader and i didnt have my Xp Home editon boot disks at the time so i rebooted it with Xp Pro to get my NTloader back, now i have to choose which OS i want to start up with and its annoying so i was wondering if anyone could tell me how to remove the Xp Pro from my pc.
I have xp pro on my laptop at work. I am thinking I need to do a clean install on a computer running xp home. We're on dialup and I'd rather not try downloading it again unless I have to. I haven't looked yet but I'm hoping MS put a huge .exe file on my laptop hd and it's still there. I used the MS update feature to automatically update it when sp2 came out.
where I could make a "slipstreamed bootable cd" with xp and sp2 for a computer. I was thinking this would be nice to have - my mom is not technologically inclined. The computer is a dell and I haven't thought til now to check with them and see if they made a cd available for it with sp2. If this works, though, I shouldn't need that, right? Wondering if I can do it for each machine running xp? On my way to face the blue screen on my mom's nonbooting computer. Maybe y'all will have some encouraging words for me on my arrival.
I have a laptop running XP Home which until recently was working fine. It now boots up to the normal login screen but when the user is selected a straange dialogue box appears with no discription of what is happening in it. No matter whether the Yes or No button is pressed, the system logs back off. I have tried to log on using safe mode in its various guises but this dialog still appears and does not allow me to log on. I have also created a boot floppy but the same problem occurs.
When building computers, opting for Windows XP Home saves you good money, money you can put into better computer parts (like that Thermaltake Armor Jr. case!). I'm building another computer, so does anyone know the differences between XP Home SP2 and XP Pro SP2, and if XP Pro is worth the extra $40-50?
It's got to the time where I need to do this and I have done it numerous times in the past but this time I am having problems.
Last week bought two new 500gb harddrives and replaced my existing 300gb slave. Formatted and partitioned this and all was okay.
Today I have removed the 300gb master and installed, formatted and partitioned the new 500gb hd with PM8.
I have set the primary partition as active and all the others are logical which is asthe old hd was partitioned.
I have been geting a disk boot failure error on trying to boot from the CDROM with the XP installation disk. Having originaly had the bios set incorrectly I have now rechecked it and ensured the boot order is set to CDROM, HD-0 and the floppy.
I have ensured that the primary hd has been detected, detection is set to to Auto and Access Mode to LBA following the Seagate instructions. I have now also disconnected the secondary drive to exclude that from the picture until I get into the primary drive.
I have also reset the jumper on the new primary to Master having disconnected the secondary drive.
Is this possible I was wondering, I have 2 sets windows xp pro. I use pro currently for 2 of my other systems. I want to downgrade to home edition ,cause pro uses more ram. Since my other system has only 128 sd ram, tends to be a little slow. I also have another comp bought from store that came with winxp home ed. instead its on a 2 restore cds ,using ghost. Is it possible for me to use the restore cds on other comp? or taking out xp home ed out of ghost files? or is this like a bad thing?. I also have the cdkey of xp home, cause it says on the cd jewel case.
I have a windows xp home edition pc here, and I cannot use it no more, 2 days ago it was working fine, until yesterday, i only had a blank screen, with the cursor. I can move the cursor around but he rest is black. No hard drive activity I have tried safe mode, but that doesn't work either, I have service pack 2 installed since bot up months ago. When i restart I get the LOADING WINDOWS XP LOGO which basically tells me that it is loading but instead of staying there it's usual time of about 10 to 15 seconds it can stay there 3 minutes or more (blue bar keeps moving) allot of hard drive activity, after that where the sign in screen should apprear i get the cursor and black screen with nothing and hard drive activity stops. I cna only move ht ecursor around but nothing else.
if XP cleans up RAM better than 98 SE, I listen to online internet music constantly and I even though I restart every couple of hours, it still wants to freeze up and practically stop. I used to have a little ram reclaimer that would automatically restore unused or once used RAM, but it ended up using too much RAM to work and actually caused more problems than having it trying to restore usable RAM. I eventually removed it and that seemed to help for a while.
Ok so I have a OEM version of XP home from a old dell that is being replaced by my new build. Is it possible to use the reinstall disk to put xp on the new rig? I have heard that the OS will look for tags in the mobo bios and won't install if it can't find them.If it won't work would an upgrade version of xp work. They are cheaper but need verification that you own a copy of a MS operating system, could I use the OEM xp for verification. If none of this will work is there anyother way to get around buying a full version of xp home? I don't want to spend $200 on the OS if I can avoid it.
I want to install XP Home 32 bit along side my Vista Ultimate x64 in a dual-boot configuration. I've set up numerous dual-boot systems so I got that covered. This is on my new build and I'm currently running Vista with RAID 0 on two Raptor 150's. I'm going to put XP on the third Rap-tor.My only concern is the 32 bit XP install will have problems with so much RAM. I know it will only use and recognize 3 gigs or so but will it have any other effects?
Dealing with a system a couple of days ago. Dell Desktop with a Dell CD XP Home CD - hdd not recognized because no S-ATA drivers...then tried with a Dell XP Pro CD - worked perfectly...and I always thought the drivers on OEM XP cds for Home and Pro were the same.
I've IE7 on winXP Pro SP2,for some reason my home page keep changing.I did full scan with NAV and some other spyware software, but still that problem exist.
I am using Win XP Home sp1(OEM) version(I bought the cd along with my assembled pc) and then upgraded to sp2,and is uptodate in all security updates from MS.I decided to upgrade my pc.I am changing my Mobo, CPU, and HDD.Now is it true that my original xp cannot be copied to my new hdd? It also seems that I cannot use my old xp(sp1) cd on my new hdd and register/activate in MS site. Does anybody have any actual experience regarding this? Will I have to buy a new OS too?
I can't remote from my XP Pro machine to my XP Home machine. However, I CAN remote the other way, XP Home to XP Pro. Any suggestions? And yes, I've enable remote assitance on the XP Home machine.
I've been told by a Toshiba rep that the Satellite laptop that a friend owns with XP Home cannot run a DOS program. Her company, believe it or not, still runs a DOS app
I`m about to install a new hard drive, I have my XP Home operating disc with the product key code which has been activated with microsoft. What I want to know is when I re install my operating disc on the new hard drive and enter the Key code will it ask for the activation code? I don`t know it!! Or will it just recognise it`s the correct key code and continue to update as normal!
Im working on a PC (HP Pavillion) and there is a problem with missing files, program crashes and lots of errors (too many to list!),I've tried everything and have now been advised by the shop in question to re-install the OS {XP Home Ed}Now, the PC came without an Install CD-Rom/ Media and I phoned the shop where it was purchased andthey informed me that "Those models are shipped with the XP already on them", so I am assuming the way is to use the partitioned drive with the backup data upon it.The PC has 1 optical drive (D) and 1 partition(E)How do I re_install XP Home ed from a partionioned drive and access the said drive??
i have a question about the Home edition sp2, as i known, this version only can support HT with single core, but now i face a problem is that it can support dual core(Yohan) , so about this case, does the Home edition really support dual core in one package? or just it cannot support dual core with individual package?
