'ipconfig' Is Not Recognized As An Internal Or External Command?
Aug 8, 2005
when trying to type a command in MS-DOS, I get the below error message. This is the same for an IPCONFIG or a PING command. Does anyone know how to correct this? I have win XP SP1 'ipconfig' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
When trying to perform the following cmd instruction C:Documents and Settings......ping I get the following error message 'ping' is not recognized as a internal or external command
You see my cmd is working fine. Then one day I open run and type in cmd and then enter. I type in ipconfig and it says ipconfig isn't an external command or something like that. Anyways I fixed the problem by typing in run C:WINDOWSsystem32cmd.exe and enter. Weird enough it worked when i typed in ipconfig, and other commands. If I typed in cmd that was open from the run any commands wouldn't work. I tried creating an shortcut from the actual cmd file and trying commands but it still doesn't work. Well sometimes I code stuff or download .bat files because I need of em. And I try to open the file but it always usually runs fine but after that incident I try to open any .bat file and it just opens it and the window closes so fast. I don't know how to fix this problem uahghhh it's a pain in the butt lol. It's getting me so mad! I just want to use my normal cmd .
there are several things but lets attack one at a time. first of all when i run antivi iget this (C:DOCUME~1OWNER~1.STELOCALS~1TEMPAAWTMPC23656656222749SETUP.EXE) contains the signature of the worm WORM/AlcraB no matter how many times i delete it it comes back. next when trying to browse this blank mos-dod screen comes up with this message.
16bit MS-DOS subsystem c:windowssystem32xg4.exe the NTVDM cpu has encountered an illegal instruction C5:054d IP: 0126 OP C6 56 e4 16d/ choose close to terminate this program
and when we set up verizon dsl and the guy had us go to run cmd and try to ping the ip address we got this: "ping" is not reconized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file and we tried several commands from this window and got the same message for all of them. and the guy at verizon said he was surprised that the pc was even running. well that's some of it got and recommendations other than total reformat?
Before I reinstall the OS,,, does anyone have the fix for DHCP issues. When I run ipconfig I get the internal error occured error. I have tried to retstart TCP/IP, I changed the name of the PC and ther group name then rebooted but notta.
When I try to go to the ipconfig command line in xp, I get this message: is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. I was trying to clean my DNS cache.
on another thread, i'm looking for an answer to a problem with my daughter's computer and her dsl connection i was asked to run ipconfig/all on both my computer, that works well with dsl modem, and her's, which doesn't. the command prompt brings this error message "'IPCONFIG' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file."
I have an issue with MS-DOS prompt on my XP SP 2 machine. It doesnt understand what "ipconfig" is. Other commands work like dir, but ipconfig does not work. Basically says its an unrecognizeable command or something like that.
Previously I have been doing work that requires me to unplug my network connection and I need to check my IP address each time I plug it in again. I guess it's not set for static IP.Anyways to do this I usually go into Command Prompt and type 'ipconfig'Now however I just get "'ipconfig' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file".The directory is the same as its always been, I can change it but it doesn't seem to matter what it is.I've checked many other posts and is there something possibly wrong with my PATH variable? I used the command 'echo %PATH%' and it works, the list it gives is very garbled however.
I have issue in 2 of my computers. I lost internet connectivity. I run on Wired DSL connection ( always on ). I did try to check ipaddress of my computer and it ends up with Internal error " An internal error occurred: the system cannot find the file specified. Additional information: Unable to query hostname " after googleing over internet i found that if we replace tcpip.sys from c:windowssystem32drivers
My problem is that I am trying to use a 60 GB ATA / 133 Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 Internal Hard Drive as an External Drive as a Slave and I am having trouble getting my bios to recognize it.The Hard Drive is hooked up in the same way as an Internal SATA DVD burner setup as an External DVD Burner that is running on Windows Office XP 2003 and it works fine. So what suggestion would you give me so that I maybe able to get the bios to recognize this drive?
my wife has a fairly new iMac and I was trying to set up an older external hard drive for her, which the mac wouldn't recognize. Well, I went to my trusty xp PC and downloaded some drivers that I was doing to expand onto a usb drive. Some how, gasp, d@%#mn, they must have loaded onto my system and now when it starts, it does so in DOS.
After backing up on this drive for nine months (and with a reformating three months ago), now the backup will not recognize the E: drive. No error message is given. MY Computer shows that it is now 3/4 full with plenty of space (46 gig) on the Acomodate 160 gig drive under NTSF format. I am thinking of changing to a fire wire from the USB.I have been doing a complete system backup and maybe I'll change to just backing up my documents after we get it working.
Got a Western Digital My Book essential edition USB 160GB, reformatted it from FAT32 to NTFS, backed up everything I wanted and did the clean install. It worked. I had a few problems getting the OS to recognize my USB Canoscan, but worked that out. My problem now is that the OS won't see the external hard drive unless I'm in safe mode. In safe mode it is assigned drive letter J, which was the same drive letter it was before the OS reinstall. It does not show up in drive manager. Nothing changes in device manager when I unplug/replug it and no new hardware is found. Device manager does show an unknown device, but that was there before anything was plugged in (which is distressing in itself!)
When I try to run ANY command-line tool at the Command Prompt I'm getting this error message :" 'Ipconfig /all' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file."The old DOS-based commands are recognized, like: DIR, PATH, CD, CLS I can't find the reason of that.
I have a Sabrent SBT-EKU25 external enclosure with a 2.5 inch hard disk in it. This is a USB 2.0 drive and whenever I connect it to USB 2.0 port, it is not recognized (or "recognized" as an unknown device" ) on all my machines. It however is recognized as a drive and works fine on one laptop which has only USB 1.1 ports.I have tried separately powered USB hubs as well without success. So I don't think it's a power issue.I have even tried deleting all USB devices in Device Manager and let the machine rediscover them.
I have a Western Digital Passport 320GB External Harddrive that is no longer recognized by the computer. It worked two days ago... now nothing. I get a pop up when I plug it in that states: USB Device Not Recognized.I checked Device Manager: Universal Serial Bus Controllers-Unknown Device. It's not a drive letter issue. Windows XP SP3 does not recognize it all.
both my externals are perfectly fine....they work on my other computer. Originally when i plugged them into my laptop the Found New Hardware wizard would startup, but be unable to do anything.
everytime i plug in a usb/external hardrive, it isnt recognized in my computer, its not too do with any hardware, im 100% its a software issue, and i was running a program and it seemed to do something nothing comes up in my computer but you hear the connected sound, ive tried assignign a manual drive letter but it comes up with an error. and seeing as i cant back anything up because nothings regonized
My USB External Hard Drive suddenly decided to stop working monday before last, it is weird, like it will turn on and all, but it doesnt get recognized and while its on none of my programs will load like Ventrilo and games(ventrillo will half load but not all the way) and the computer wont shutdown while its on. but the moment i turn it off they all start running smoothly agian and the computer will shutdown immediatly (if i am at the shutdown screen). Any idea why/how this happened and how to fix it?
Win XP Professional in new Dell Vostro does not recognize Bytecc 320 external hsng with 250 gb Seagate drive. Under hardware manager it shows up and says this device working properly. XP does not assign a drive letter. Disk management shows device but reports it as 128 Gb capacity. I do not want to settle for half the drive's capacity so i did not create a partition.
I have a sata 500 GB hard drive from Seagate that just won't get recognized. I've been in Disk Management, I've scanned the disk, I've rebooted, and Disk 1 is there, but the message is it's offline--and after I did the reboot I got the message that the hard drive USB had been recognized--but it ain't there.
My sis has one of those Wally-Mart Acer mini laptops; NO CD-ROM drive in it (PS: way-bad idea! Never buy a computer w/o a dvd/cd drive in it!). She managed to delete the graphics card driver and so when that occurred and rebooted, nothing on-screen! Its there, you just cannot see anything in windows! And, because there is no drive, the CD with all the original programs cannot be run in start-up mode without an external CD-ROM drive
I want to use my (HP Pavilion zv6000 w/XP) laptop as that external drive to re-load her original CD, which (of course) has all the drives on it! At start-up, the Acer (also w/XP) has an option to start-up from an ext. drive, so it has that capability (obviously, w/o a drive of its own), but how to make my HP "look" like an external drive (via USB-to-USB hookup) is the problem!
I installed an a 2.5 Toshiba notebook drive in a external enclosure and I can't get XP to recognize it. The drive spins up and the light comes on to indicate it is running but nothing is shown in device manager or My computer. It also is not shown in disk management.I have uninstalled the the USB drivers through the device manager with no change after rebooting. The USB ports work fine with my other external drive. The drive was working fine in a notebook that had a cracked screen. It is formated in NTFS. What else should I be looking at to solve this problem?
I have a Dell computer where one of the loading .dll files came up 'missing' one day, so it won't boot. I want to get all the photos and other docs off the hard drive. I had downloaded one version of linux and was able to see the files on the internal hard drive, but was unable to copy them to a memory stick or external hard drive. Now I've downloaded ubuntu and booted off a memory stick... this time, it's telling me that the internal hard drive has all kinds of bad sectors and won't let me access any of the files on there.
I am running windows xp. When i run ipconfig it flashes off the screen before I get a chance to read it.I clicked run - then typed cmd and got to the dos screen - then I typed ipconfig and the screen flashes off so fast I do not get a chance to read it - how do I get the dos screen to stay on?? Remember I first went to run then typed cmd then at the dos screen I typed ipconfig.I researching this problem all I get is that I should click run then type cmd then type ipconfig. I did all that but screen still flashes off.
I would like to know if this can be done in win xp environment. say I have a folder, A, of pictures only and they all have file extensions jpg eg abc.jpg, xyz.jpg. say I have a second folder, B, which contains all the files of A(if you ignore extensions) and more(but all are pictures.) But all the files in B has extensions NEF instead of jpg eg abc.NEF, efg.NEF, xyz.NEF. My idea is to extract all the files from B that has the same the name as A(ignoring extensions) and either move or copy to a separate folder ie if A contains abc.jpg, xyz.jpg then abc.NEF and xyz.NEF will be extracted and moved/copied to a new folder. I'm not sure where to start. is there a program out there that can do this? or there's a special command to type at the command prompt?
connecting to a specific website and contacted my ISP as i was being blocked by someone and still am. I then installed a IP blocker and since have been able to connect. When i contacted the ISP they were getting me to do a heap of things with ipconfig netish ip reset and a few of ipconfig commands. Since ive done all these my home network hasnt been able to work. I have gone back into My Network and done the network wizard again and again I have also reinstalled another network card and still wont work. I have assigned IP address to all computers on the network. On all other computers you can see everyones computer with the exception of the host. The host computer cant been seen on the network and cant access any other computer as well. The internet wont work on any other computer either but the host internet works. i have another bootable HDD and booted from it and everything works fine.
