on another thread, i'm looking for an answer to a problem with my daughter's computer and her dsl connection i was asked to run ipconfig/all on both my computer, that works well with dsl modem, and her's, which doesn't. the command prompt brings this error message "'IPCONFIG' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file."

When i run ipconfig it flashes off the screen before I get a chance to read it.I clicked run - then typed cmd and got to the dos screen - then I typed ipconfig and the screen flashes off so fast I do not get a chance to read it - how do I get the dos screen to stay on?? Remember I first went to run then typed cmd then at the dos screen I typed ipconfig.I researching this problem all I get is that I should click run then type cmd then type ipconfig. View 14 Replies View Relatedconnecting to a specific website and contacted my ISP as i was being blocked by someone and still am. I then installed a IP blocker and since have been able to connect. When i contacted the ISP they were getting me to do a heap of things with ipconfig netish ip reset and a few of ipconfig commands. Since ive done all these my home network hasnt been able to work. I have gone back into My Network and done the network wizard again and again I have also reinstalled another network card and still wont work. I have assigned IP address to all computers on the network. On all other computers you can see everyones computer with the exception of the host. The host computer cant been seen on the network and cant access any other computer as well. The internet wont work on any other computer either but the host internet works. i have another bootable HDD and booted from it and everything works fine.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI made a mistake when I moved into a house that doesn’t have high speed Internet. I signed up for netzero to get me through the months that I will not have high speed. I installed their software then their software downloaded some more software that is still locking my computer up on occasion, even after I have uninstalled their software. It doesn't lock it up totally it just doesn't let me run any other programs and it doesn't let me log off (even through CTRL ALT DEL). It also runs a program in called ipconfig.exe that never seems to finish running
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am using toad for oracle development. Whenever i perform any operation in toad, it goes to an ip address to resolve the database server name. That IP address was previously used as our dns server but no more exists in our network. I flushed by dns using ipconfig /flushdns commad but unable to get ride of this IP address. Also I have reinstalled my oracle client and toad but that IP address is alwayes there.
Can any body suggest me some way to find out where this entry exist in windows DNS setting.
You see my cmd is working fine. Then one day I open run and type in cmd and then enter. I type in ipconfig and it says ipconfig isn't an external command or something like that. Anyways I fixed the problem by typing in run C:WINDOWSsystem32cmd.exe and enter. Weird enough it worked when i typed in ipconfig, and other commands. If I typed in cmd that was open from the run any commands wouldn't work. I tried creating an shortcut from the actual cmd file and trying commands but it still doesn't work. Well sometimes I code stuff or download .bat files because I need of em. And I try to open the file but it always usually runs fine but after that incident I try to open any .bat file and it just opens it and the window closes so fast. I don't know how to fix this problem uahghhh it's a pain in the butt lol. It's getting me so mad! I just want to use my normal cmd .
View 14 Replies View RelatedI have an old computer that is hooked up directly to the cable modem. The pc runs Windows 2000. When I start up the pc, I can't get on the internet, I have to goto the command prompt and type in "ipconfig /renew" and it renews the ip address, which lets me get on to the net. I have to do this everytime I start the pc and it's a big pain. It sometimes takes up to 2 minutes to get an ip address. The ip address is set to 0.0.0.0 before I do the renew. My question is how do I get the computer to get an ip when the pc is started. I have a Motorola surboard sb4100 cable modem if that helps. The pc is running windows 2000 and I have Zonealarm, and Spysweeper running (and no Av programs). If I hook up my laptop (running XP Pro SP2), it works fine, I can get on the net without renewing.

He set it to run and automatically shut down the PC when finished. Upon reboot, his taskbar was a different color, he was shown a message requesting that he log in with a user that has administrative privileges, his internet connection was gone (ipconfig showed 0.0.0.0 on everything, and ipconfig /renew said "RPC server unavailable"....even though the Administrative Tools>Services applet shows it to be "started").System Restore is not an option, as it was disabled a month ago in hopes of solving another unrelated problem.

This is a USB 2.0 drive and whenever I connect it to USB 2.0 port, it is not recognized (or "recognized" as an unknown device" ) on all my machines. It however is recognized as a drive and works fine on one laptop which has only USB 1.1 ports.I have tried separately powered USB hubs as well without success. So I don't think it's a power issue.I have even tried deleting all USB devices in Device Manager and let the machine rediscover them.

I have Windows XP Home installed and my dvd/cd burner is a Device Description SONY DVD RW DRU-530A. I have burned many files,photos,and music on this unit using cd-r discs. I am now using DVD-r discs and the burner will not recognize the disc. I tried DVD+r discs and have the same problem. Attached is the statement I get when I try to burn a disc. Should I go back to a CD-R disc or what could the problem be? I have tried to burn using Windows and using Nero with the same result.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have been using this pc with windows xp for about a month now and up to now I have had no problems, but for some reason my drive has suddenly stopped reading dvds...My drive is an Optiarc DVD-RW AD-5170AI can insert a cd and it recognizes and reads the disk perfectly, but when I insert a dvd windows appears to start to read the disk, but after a few seconds nothing seems to be happening except that the read light on the drive is lit and the drive makes a few strange sounds. I have left it to load for a few minutes but still nothing happens.After searching, I have found 2 possible solutions:The first was to uninstall the driver and restart. Upon restart windows will reinstall the device.I tried that twice, still experiencing the same problem.

At some point it stopped working, and I've ended up using Picassa to get the images d'ld, but it won't let me add photos to an existing folder. I want the Windows wizard to work again, that was better.My new camera is not recognized at all, and if anything pops up, it's Explorer. I tried to install drivers from the disc that came with the camera, but keep getting a message that says I don't need to. View 8 Replies View RelatedWhat would cause a relatively new HP Media Center computer to recognize other things inserted into any of the USB ports in the front (for example, a jump drive), but NOT recognize one device (a Lowrance iWAY 500c GPS car navigation device) that is readily recognized when it's plugged into a different computer?The HP computer is a friend's. The "different computer" is mine, a custom machine from Puget Systems with a P4 on an Asus MoBo. On the friend's computer, we get a "bubble" message from the taskbar to the effect that the device is not recognized -- so it knows something is plugged in, but apparently doesn't have the driver for it.
Her system is running Win XP and I assume (but don't know for sure) that she's kept up with Windows updates.
When I check MyComputer, the Lowrance isn't on the list. In Device Manager, it's listed as "Unknown device".I'm wondering about things like the HP lists a pot full of drives because it has all the camera card slots, etc. in the front panel (I think the drives go all the way up to J:, almost all of which are "removable drives".
I recently changed processors - nothing too technical -except now 5 times out of 6 , my PC will not recognize my DVD drive.There was no problem before.

Recently i have been getting Device is not recognized ive read through many forums on the "Fix" i unplugged my computer i un-installed my drives and the problem still continues only if i have the original belking stand. when i remove the stand and connect the adapter straight to my computer everything is fine. I did some tests with other usb extension cables i get the same problem but after removing and plugin in the cable a few times it works. Ive had moments when i have the belking stand connected i will get a connection signal but a few seconds later it will send a message USB device not recognized.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI recently re-installed a fresh copy of Windows XP Pro because of a patched user32 virus that caused me problems it seems to be gone now since the re-install. But now since I re-installed Windows XP, my dvd and cd drives don't show up in Windows. In BIOS they are recognized as ch.0 master and ch.0 slave drives. But in Windows they're not there in My Computer or Device Manager. I pop in a disc and it spins around but nothing happens.
