I have an old computer that is hooked up directly to the cable modem. The pc runs Windows 2000. When I start up the pc, I can't get on the internet, I have to goto the command prompt and type in "ipconfig /renew" and it renews the ip address, which lets me get on to the net. I have to do this everytime I start the pc and it's a big pain. It sometimes takes up to 2 minutes to get an ip address. The ip address is set to 0.0.0.0 before I do the renew. My question is how do I get the computer to get an ip when the pc is started. I have a Motorola surboard sb4100 cable modem if that helps. The pc is running windows 2000 and I have Zonealarm, and Spysweeper running (and no Av programs). If I hook up my laptop (running XP Pro SP2), it works fine, I can get on the net without renewing.
I recently re formated my computer and now I can't get my cable modem to hook up through the ethernet. It only works if its hooked up through the usb cable but if i do that then i cant use my router.
my pc broke down so i reinstalled windows xp with a disc, i lost all the files on it (not a prob) but i cant get my internet to work on it. its says there is no connection but i know there is cos i have it running on this one. its a cable modem for virgin media. i get a message saying registry for internet is corrupted?
Both wireless and eathernet cable. Using modem ok now with other laptop. Self diagnosis and tech at telco seems to indicate a problem within laptop. Couple of things came up: "Error TCP/IP adapter binding" and "TCP/IP not connected". Tech asked if I hit a keyboard key that shut it down. They referred me to Toshiba. I think I tried all the "Control Panel..Internet Connection" stuff.
I have a pen4 computer with 1 GB of memory and lots of free space on the hard drive. when I click or try to open explorer or Firefox, it just sets there for sometimes 4 or 5 minutes and then it opens. I have a cable modem with other computer on it and none of them have problems.
When I click on the Icon, the hour glass comes up for a few seconds and then goes away, there does not seem to be any activity on the HD and then it all opens and works fine until it is closed again...
i have a dell dimension e310. 2.9 ghz. 4 gigs of ram. windows xp... umm so just recently we took it into the shop and they re-installed the operating system. because we thought it was infected with virus' or w/e.ever since, its been running slow. it boots up ok...and for the first few minutes its running...not fast. but not too slow. and then it kinda just freezes. i can move the mouse but if im running windows explorer(havent been able to re-install firefox) it kinda just sticks there. i installed norton 360 and it says the pc i running fine. i dont know what to do about it. i have to wait an hour just so windows explorer can close..very frustrating...
have a somewhat older computer with 3 hard drives. windows 98se, xp pro, and a storage drive. windows 98 is fast and no issues. the xp pro is a brand new install and slower than death. not sure what information is needed so will just ramble a bit.
Due to my problems with error 638 and being disconnected frequently I went into control panel, clicked on phone&modem options only to find that my modem isn't accounted for at all! There is a blank where my modem details should be and yet I am on line when I'm doing it! Help! My computer will not allow me to access Hijack- this but I've run adaware spybot and antivirus.I'm also refused access to the btyoyager modem booster as 'the unzipped folder is invalid or corrupt
I need to uninstall my old modem before I install the software for my new modem. Problem is when I try to uninstall the old one I get an error box come up saying "cannot open bitmap". I've rebooted in safe mode and tried it but i get the same error box.
I am trying to set up a Gateway 2071-A two wire modem on XP Pro x64 bit, the modem only comes with 32 bit drivers, is there any workaround for this problem ? as I can't find any 64 bit drivers. Would WOW on64 work

Remember I first went to run then typed cmd then at the dos screen I typed ipconfig.I researching this problem all I get is that I should click run then type cmd then type ipconfig. I did all that but screen still flashes off.
When I try to go to the ipconfig command line in xp, I get this message: is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. I was trying to clean my DNS cache.
on another thread, i'm looking for an answer to a problem with my daughter's computer and her dsl connection i was asked to run ipconfig/all on both my computer, that works well with dsl modem, and her's, which doesn't. the command prompt brings this error message "'IPCONFIG' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file."
I have an issue with MS-DOS prompt on my XP SP 2 machine. It doesnt understand what "ipconfig" is. Other commands work like dir, but ipconfig does not work. Basically says its an unrecognizeable command or something like that.
connecting to a specific website and contacted my ISP as i was being blocked by someone and still am. I then installed a IP blocker and since have been able to connect. When i contacted the ISP they were getting me to do a heap of things with ipconfig netish ip reset and a few of ipconfig commands. Since ive done all these my home network hasnt been able to work. I have gone back into My Network and done the network wizard again and again I have also reinstalled another network card and still wont work. I have assigned IP address to all computers on the network. On all other computers you can see everyones computer with the exception of the host. The host computer cant been seen on the network and cant access any other computer as well. The internet wont work on any other computer either but the host internet works. i have another bootable HDD and booted from it and everything works fine.
Before I reinstall the OS,,, does anyone have the fix for DHCP issues. When I run ipconfig I get the internal error occured error. I have tried to retstart TCP/IP, I changed the name of the PC and ther group name then rebooted but notta.
I made a mistake when I moved into a house that doesn’t have high speed Internet. I signed up for netzero to get me through the months that I will not have high speed. I installed their software then their software downloaded some more software that is still locking my computer up on occasion, even after I have uninstalled their software. It doesn't lock it up totally it just doesn't let me run any other programs and it doesn't let me log off (even through CTRL ALT DEL). It also runs a program in called ipconfig.exe that never seems to finish running
when trying to type a command in MS-DOS, I get the below error message. This is the same for an IPCONFIG or a PING command. Does anyone know how to correct this? I have win XP SP1 'ipconfig' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
I am using toad for oracle development. Whenever i perform any operation in toad, it goes to an ip address to resolve the database server name. That IP address was previously used as our dns server but no more exists in our network. I flushed by dns using ipconfig /flushdns commad but unable to get ride of this IP address. Also I have reinstalled my oracle client and toad but that IP address is alwayes there. Can any body suggest me some way to find out where this entry exist in windows DNS setting.
You see my cmd is working fine. Then one day I open run and type in cmd and then enter. I type in ipconfig and it says ipconfig isn't an external command or something like that. Anyways I fixed the problem by typing in run C:WINDOWSsystem32cmd.exe and enter. Weird enough it worked when i typed in ipconfig, and other commands. If I typed in cmd that was open from the run any commands wouldn't work. I tried creating an shortcut from the actual cmd file and trying commands but it still doesn't work. Well sometimes I code stuff or download .bat files because I need of em. And I try to open the file but it always usually runs fine but after that incident I try to open any .bat file and it just opens it and the window closes so fast. I don't know how to fix this problem uahghhh it's a pain in the butt lol. It's getting me so mad! I just want to use my normal cmd .
A friend of mine did who knows what to his computer using some data cleaning software, called secure clean. He set it to run and automatically shut down the PC when finished. Upon reboot, his taskbar was a different color, he was shown a message requesting that he log in with a user that has administrative privileges, his internet connection was gone (ipconfig showed 0.0.0.0 on everything, and ipconfig /renew said "RPC server unavailable"....even though the Administrative Tools>Services applet shows it to be "started").System Restore is not an option, as it was disabled a month ago in hopes of solving another unrelated problem.
I shut off the computer and turning it back on couldn't boot up windows. It gave the windows wasn't shut down properly and I tried the normal restart option and it would just give a black screen with a blinking _ and then nothing happens. Tried loading in safe mode but it gets to mup.sys then "Press Esc to cancel SPTD.sys" flashes below and whether I press Esc or let it be, nothing happens after that.
I tried popping in the windows xp disc that came with the laptop, boot from disc, it starts up but then after loading everything, it then says "Windows is starting up" the disc stops spinning then nothing happens. I tried popping in a windows vista disc and it says "Windows is loading files" with a progress bar, when it fills up, I get stuck with a blank black screen the disc stops spinning and then nothing happens.
Some time ago I booted up my computer,to find that my XP switched to Windows classic style,I didn't take it seriously so I went to properties to change when I get an error message saying there is a problem with run32.dll,not only that, but the visual styles can't load I assume, becuase of run32.dll,so now I'm stuck with the piece of s*** style.
The situation: A reasonably new PC, clean and working properly. Several new programs are installed, including Firefox, Winamp, desktop publishing, photo manager, and security software (not the antivirus, standalone scanners.) Everything appears to be fine.I log on to Windows Live OneCare to use their "Safety Scanner" to, as they say, check for PC health issues and optimize performance. Mind you, the site recommends users log on once a month for the full service scan. As you know, the scan includes the removal of what it refers to as invalid registry entries. "Oh boy," right? The registry. Except you'd like to believe the official Microsoft site won't screw up your programs.
I tried to do a System Recovery today on my Sony laptop. Got 41% completed and had a fatal error. Options given were Ignore, Retry or Abort. Attempted a Retry. Got a fatal error message and everything locked up. I ended up shutting down and when I turned the computer on again it said no operating system found. Where did I screw up?
This is a six year old Sony, XP, AMD 1.0Ghz. Everything was working at the time I tried the System Recovery EXCEPT I was constantly getting low space messages for drive C. I have no files on this drive and very little software. It is a 20G hard drive partioned into two 10G partitions.
Should I ever use one of the utility programs to wipe my hard drive completely, how do I reinstall Windows XP since the CD driver has been erased? How can you reinstall an operating system that is on CD when you have no driver for the CD player? The reason I am asking these questions is that I might want to give my computer to friend and I want my stuff off of the hard drive and my friend to be able to use the computer.
