View 4 RepliesIs there anyway to enable Snap on Windows 8 Consumer Preview on systems with resolutions lower than 1376x768? My laptop has a resolution of 1280x800 and I'd love to be able to use Snap on it.
View 9 Replies View RelatedDo you think it will ever make it so you can "snap" using lower resolutions?
My Asus tablet does 1280x800 which is lower than the 1366x768. I know there was a hack on the earlier releases but any way there would ever be a way to do this on lower resolutions now.
After the upgrade of 8.1 I got display issues because the resolution of Windows Apps (Metro UI, Internet Explorer, Login Page ...) has become lower than the resolution of windows. In my setting it is set at maximum level.
Here you can see the problem (and you can see that resolution of Chrome is at its normal level whereas resolution of IE is at a low level) : [URL] .....
Installed windows 8 just now.... i've 2 questions
1. Can't use snap apps as i've max 1280*1024 resolution..no solution?
2. I've xp on my pc... & i've purchased this upgrade using my brother's laptop.... now i've installed win8pro in my pc. So my question is will my bother can face ny problem regarding his windows 7??? will he receive any multiple notification kind of stuff??
How do I enable the mouse "snap to" feature in Windows 8?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am new to Windows 8, which I am using with a non-touch screen so I am dependent on the mouse for controlling actions. The Start Screen has enough items on it to require me to scroll across to see them all, even when grouped. I would like to be able to have a second (lower level) screen which opens when I click on an item in the main Start Screen. For example, Microsoft Office has about 8 programs within it (Word, Excel, etc) and at present these are all separate items on my Start Screen. Is it possible to have just one tile on the Start Screen (labelled MS Office) which, when clicked, leads to another screen on which the eight programs appear?
Alternatively, (and this perhaps should be a separate thread) is it possible to have separate icons for these programs on the Desktop (but not in the Taskbar). I noticed that some programs which I installed appear on both the Start Screen and the Desktop, while others only appear on the Start Screen.
I used to be able to snap to full screen with windows 7, I can't do it with windows 8.1, why?
View 2 Replies View RelatedIt sometimes seems like I'm one of the few people that likes windows 8, anyway...
In 8, I can snap the desktop screen to the right by pressing "Windows key" + "." or to the left with "Windows key" + "shift" + "." and this is a very handy sortcut but for some reason Microsoft has disabled this shortcut in 8.1. Any way to put it back in?
I recently got windows 8 and was wondering how I can snap a PDF that I'm looking at so that it occupies roughly 50% of the screen. This is so that I can compare and take notes from two pdf documents at a time (where the other pdf would be snapped on the other part of the screen like on windows 7). Thus far the closest I have gotten is this:
i.e. around 20% of the screen.I tried dragging the green part but this causes it to occupy the whole 90% of the screen.
This keeps popping up in the lower right corner of my screen every time I boot up.. What it is.. right or left clicking on it has no effect, nor clicking on any of the 4 icons. The only active area is the little arrow on the left that closes the popup. It may be part of Windows 8 or may be some part of the ASUS addons that were installed with my system..
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm getting confused about the new start button that was supposedly to come with the Win 8.1 update. I cant' find anything different from Win 8. Is the start button the icon found in the lower left corner of the screen?...or on my computer keyboard?...it looks like a window. I was expecting that I would get a dropdown start menu with Win 8.1 like I get with Win 7 when I click on that button. I would really like to have the Win 7 dropdown start menu when I click on that button in 8.1.
View 7 Replies View RelatedEach time I start the computer is is necessary for me to adjust the screen resolution to cause the screen tiles to appear when clicking "start" on the right side of the screen. What am I not doing? When I open the computer the next time I adjust the screen resolution back to a different setting and the tiles come up.
Also (I'm obviously a newcomer to W. 8), I get a dialogue box each time which refers to to: "RUNDll". Something about an issue with opening something???? I click "OK" and it goes away. Appears every time I start up.
How do I get "Screen Resolution" (on desktop, right click and select Screen Resolution) to show my main monitor as "1"?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just changed my laptop's OS to Windows 8 but somehow, I can't change my screen resolution the way it was before.
Here's a screenshot: [URL] .....
And when i go to desktop, right-click then screen resolution, there's only 1 option available.
Here's how it looks like: [URL] .....
And as you can see, the "Resolution" option won't show any other options aside from 1024x768.
I just installed Windows 8, and each time I boot up my resolution reverts to 800x600 even though my native is 1680x1050. I have to constantly change it after login. I hope this is a simple fix, this is the first time I'm using Windows 8 as my normal OS.

View 4 Replies View RelatedMy netbook(Samsung NC110 with 1024*600 Screen Resolution and Intel GMA 3150) is running Windows 8.1 x64 now. I want to use all features of Windows 8, so i want to set Custom resoltion like 1366*768. I was trying to change some keys in the regedit, but the picture was very bad, cause my screen is 16:9, and 1024*768 or 1152*864 resolutions is 4:3. I want to get some utility to set Custom Resolutions, that bigger that real resolution of my display.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm using win 8.1 with a 2560 x1440 resolution, but I can't seem to get split screen to work. I've tried a few tutorials online, but without success.
I can easily split the screen by left mouse clicking the top of the screen and dragging down. The first window works normally with task bar showing on the bottom, but I can't figure out how to get anything else in the 2nd window that is created. One online tutorial mentioned something about executing a mouse-over on the left or upper left corner, but that doesn't bring anything up. I can get the search/share/start/devices/settings task bar to appear by mouse-overing the upper right hand corner, but this doesn't lead to filling the second window.
Windows 8 is literally taking 2 minutes to Boot!
I am also having an issue with not being able to change the screen resolution. I tried updating drivers. Resolution is set to 1024 x 768. There are no other choices.
Computer information is as follows:
Windows 8 Professional with Media Center (build 9200)
Hewlett-Packard Presario V2000 (ET931UA#ABA) Rev 1

I have a laptop with 8.0 pre-installed.Could normally access the lock screen with WinKey-L.
Since update to 8.1, this is no longer possible.(all other keyboard shortcuts that I've tried, works OK)
Account is local with admin rights; pwd protected; not MS-account. No other accounts. When I start the laptop, I have the Lock Screen to enter pwd.
I can get to the settings page to customise the Lock Screen, but not back to the Lock Screen!
Why can I not get to the Lock Screen with WinKey-L? (what settings are preventing this?)
I'm using my laptop MSI GE60-2OE. When I first boot into the system, everything looks fine
But after using for a while, the display becomes odd. Every item becomes bigger than normal and the entire screen seems bigger than the screen size
Even worse, in the desktop mode, the taskbar change to strange state and the menu start is disabled
This problem happens when I set the screen resolution at 1920*1080. Things change back to normal when I reduce the resolution to 1600*900.
My new Acer laptop has very disappointing screen and video quality. The screen resolution is maxed-out at 1366 x 768 with Intel HD Graphics 4000. Those specs should be just fine for great visuals. My old desktop didn't come close to that but I could watch Youtube videos very well with no pixeling of image. Acer tech support said "new graphics driver download" and I did that , to no avail. Setting adjustments etc.? My wife's 3 year old Acer has better screen quality than my new one.

View 9 Replies View RelatedThe other day my son stepped on my laptop and messed up the screen. Now when it starts up I get red lines going across the screen, but can still see the bios info and the windows logo and spinning dots when Windows loads just fine, however when Windows starts I just have a blank screen. Obviously the screen was damaged, but it seems to display the lower resolution okay. I just can't lower the resolution in Windows since I can't see what I'm doing. Plugging in an external monitor doesn't work, there's no output there. Is there way to change the resolution settings if I take it the hdd and plug it into another computer as an external drive? The laptop is an Intel cpu and my other machine is an AMD cpu, so I don't think just trying to boot the laptop hard drive in the desktop would work.
