Do you think it will ever make it so you can "snap" using lower resolutions?
My Asus tablet does 1280x800 which is lower than the 1366x768. I know there was a hack on the earlier releases but any way there would ever be a way to do this on lower resolutions now.
Is there anyway to enable Snap on Windows 8 Consumer Preview on systems with resolutions lower than 1376x768? My laptop has a resolution of 1280x800 and I'd love to be able to use Snap on it.

However I found out that resolution check can be bypassed by editing a file in Windows 8. This works on Windows 8.1 too!
This occurs especially during games, my native resolution is 1366x768 but whenever I choose a lower resolution than that in games, the size of the game on the screen becomes smaller than my laptop's display/screen (15.6"). Why does this happen? Is it a laptop issue only? My older laptop had the same problem.
PS: I have the latest graphics drivers.

how to reset it back to the factory settings? The Win8 RESET function under the Control panel returns it back to a fresh copy of Win8 Pro and not Win8 Standard. I also see a recovery partition on its Hard Drive.
I'm considering doing a clean install of Windows Pro 8.1 on an ASUS VivoTab ME400C-C2-BK tablet to recapture the space from the restore partition. After doing some research it seems others that have done this run into conflicts if attempting to restore/repair file corruption through Windows down the road because it looks at the BIOS and finds Core version reference.
Is there a way to insert 8.1 Pro key into BIOS to prevent version conflicts?
If not, is there a way to avoid version conflict issues with the BIOS? (simply reinstall?) I did search here but came up empty.
Any way to do a clean install of Windows 8.1 on a Windows 8 tablet.
Tablet Model is ASUS VivoTab Smart ME400C-C2.
It came originally with Windows 8 32bit. I was wanting to know if there is a possibility of doing this with a Windows 8.1 Disc.
Now I know there is a way to hook up a portable optical drive with a cable called a USB OTG.
I was told by ASUS though i would not be able to boot from the optical drive like a PC or Laptop could and to be able to boot from this OS disc so i can do the install this way.
So is there is a way maybe by making a disc. image and putting it on it's MicroSD or running it directly from the disc, i am not sure how this would work wanting to do a custom install.
Question is there any differences with the Windows 8 OS on the tablet now, compared to the OS on the disc usually used for a PC or Laptop ?
I tried to go to the display settings page to enlarge the font and apps size under "("change the size of apps, text and other items..") in PC settings of Windows 8, and was greeted by this message: "Your Resolution is lower than 1280x900 Some items might not fit on your screen" and the "more options" section with "change the size of apps, text items" is disabled. I checked twice, my resolution is the T100 native 1368x768, so why does windows 8.1 think its something else? also tried switching to a lower resolution and back again, rebooting, etc. I also tried downloading and installing all Windows updates and Asus updates.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Asus T100 tablet with 32GB SSD. I bought a 64GB SD card to augment the storage on the tablet. The problem I am having is that the SD card disconnects after a few minutes of no activity, I then have to take it out of the tablet and pout it back in. I then have the folder in my C Drive again. How do I prevent the SD card from disconnecting so that I can use it as additional storage?

One of them wouldn't recognize bluetooth or wi-fi and it had a problem with the Broadcom Serial Bus Driver over UART Bus Enumerator. After numerous driver downloads and installs and even a full factory restore (whatever option in windows 8 where it deletes everything and reinstalls the OS), the issue still persisted. Since the tablet was brand new, we just submitted a DOA request from our wholesaler and sent the tablet back. No big deal, figured it was a hardware issue. The other day, a Lenovo tablet came in with the EXACT same problem. Again driver installs, factory restore etc and the issue is still there. SO obviously it's not a hardware issue Again, both units have had drivers, bios and factory restores and the issue is still there, immediately after factory restore.

Windows 7 64bit has this generic display driver, everything is ok with Windows 7. Do I get my money back from Microsoft?
I have a brand-new HDCP supporting monitor (native resolution 1920 x 1080,) on which I play the latest blu ray movies from the computers built-in blu ray drive, and a 9 year old flat screen non-HD plasma TV (on which I watch You Tube, BBC iPlayer and 4OD, streamed from the PC via a VGA cable,) both connected to my GT610 NVidia graphics card.
It seems I can only get them at the same resolution. My desktop does however have it's own on board graphics processor. Is it possible to run these two devices at different resolutions? (Since the ancient flat screen can only handle resolutions up to 1600 x 1200.)
I'm currently running Windows 8.1 Update with an NVidia 660TI with two DVI monitors at 1920x1200 and a 1080p TV from the HDMI output. I'm having trouble with the 1080p TV in that when I drag an application (Store or Win32) onto the screen, the top and bottom is truncated when I maximise it. For example, if I drag Windows Media Player over to the TV and maximise it, the play, forward and rewind buttons when visible are cut in half at the bottom of the screen.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI purchased a new Toshiba laptop with Win 8.1. On my old XP Dell, I was able to copy a 699MB folder of music MP3 files to a CD to play in my car. I've done it many times, and have 8 folders on my computer that I frequently copy to CDs for that purpose. In the past, I've copied 700 MB of files to a CD without difficulty, so I learned to maximize the number of files by storing the data in groups of 699 MB to avoid overloading a disk.
I tried to copy those folders to a CD using the new Win 8.1 machine, and have discovered that the CD capacity is only about 696 MB. I'm using the same CDs, and attempting to copy the same files. The only difference is the operating system and the new hardware. When I contacted Toshiba, the tech said Windows 8.1 stores files differently on CDs and the capacity is about 2MB less than on older machines.
Can this possibly be true?!? Is this a Windows 8.1 problem, or a hardware problem? Do I need to use my older XP computer to maximize the number of files I can store on a CD?
I am new to Windows 8, which I am using with a non-touch screen so I am dependent on the mouse for controlling actions. The Start Screen has enough items on it to require me to scroll across to see them all, even when grouped. I would like to be able to have a second (lower level) screen which opens when I click on an item in the main Start Screen. For example, Microsoft Office has about 8 programs within it (Word, Excel, etc) and at present these are all separate items on my Start Screen. Is it possible to have just one tile on the Start Screen (labelled MS Office) which, when clicked, leads to another screen on which the eight programs appear?
Alternatively, (and this perhaps should be a separate thread) is it possible to have separate icons for these programs on the Desktop (but not in the Taskbar). I noticed that some programs which I installed appear on both the Start Screen and the Desktop, while others only appear on the Start Screen.
After the upgrade of 8.1 I got display issues because the resolution of Windows Apps (Metro UI, Internet Explorer, Login Page ...) has become lower than the resolution of windows. In my setting it is set at maximum level.

If you have skype, or evernote (for Windows 8 desktops) notice that when you near it to the edge, it "snaps" so to speak. THIS IS NOT THE SNAP where you snap to the right or to the left!
I am just lost as to how this came to be. Is this application-specific? I would very much prefer all my applications/windows to snap to the edge as they are.
About 1-2 weeks ago, I had 15GB of space left on my SSD that is solely committed to OS and drivers. Today, I have 2.9GB left. I have downloaded nothing, and I have changed nothing. take a closer look at why my SSD space is disappearing? I've had this OS for 2 months now and it wasn't a problem until recently.

For some reason the Windows 7 style desktop snap has stopped working, I can still snap a metro app to the side of my monitor but not an ordinary program like note pad. I used to either drag the window to the side of the screen or press Windows Key and an arrow to snap it to the left or the right.

In 8, I can snap the desktop screen to the right by pressing "Windows key" + "." or to the left with "Windows key" + "shift" + "." and this is a very handy sortcut but for some reason Microsoft has disabled this shortcut in 8.1. Any way to put it back in?

When entering letters and numbers, that I believe are used to prevent Robo emails, do I have to use upper and lower case letters? I have a heck of a time getting those to take, and have to repeat them several times.
View 3 Replies View RelatedEver since I have been working with Windows 8 I have received error messages stating "There was a problem sending the command to the program". It will be a document that I have created in word or excel on the exact same computer. I click on the folder in my library, find my document, double click on it, word or excel appears to start to open as a box displaying one or the other appears and then the error message appears. I click on "OK" in the error message and see the word or excel icon in my lower tray - click on that and there is my document. Not a huge deal but definitely not the way things should work..
View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently got windows 8 and was wondering how I can snap a PDF that I'm looking at so that it occupies roughly 50% of the screen. This is so that I can compare and take notes from two pdf documents at a time (where the other pdf would be snapped on the other part of the screen like on windows 7). Thus far the closest I have gotten is this:
i.e. around 20% of the screen.I tried dragging the green part but this causes it to occupy the whole 90% of the screen.
So I've never seen how 2 apps snapped look when using a tablet in portrait mode. All I seem to see is landscape snapped apps. So can this even be done on a tablet.
It looks rather useful, but not sure if it can be used in landscape and portrait?
Windows 8 Desktop. Somehow I have changed something and now my desktop windows will not re-size or move. When I initially open a program or browser it opens fine in a small window somewhere on the screen. As soon as i grab the title bar 2 outlined windows appear on screen in Yellow and Red. When I let go of the title bar the program snaps to one of the two positions, when I try to move the window it just keeps snapping back.
So the desktop programs now seem to be behaving as if they were Metro apps and displaying using Metro Snap. It is really bothersome. How I can revert back to normal Desktop operation?
What I want to do is have the ability to play a fullscreen game or a fullscreen video or anything else like that, but have it only take up the screen that the desktop is taking, leaving the rest for a snapped skype or something like that. I found a good thread describing the problem, but no answer to whether or not it is possible to do this. So is this possible? I'd like to have a fullscreen browser open (so it doesn't have the toolbars on top) along with skype. Link :
