It sometimes seems like I'm one of the few people that likes windows 8, anyway...
In 8, I can snap the desktop screen to the right by pressing "Windows key" + "." or to the left with "Windows key" + "shift" + "." and this is a very handy sortcut but for some reason Microsoft has disabled this shortcut in 8.1. Any way to put it back in?
Is there a keyboard shortcut to go back a level in the file hierarchy rather than clicking the above button? I tried the <backspace> key to no avail.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently got windows 8 and was wondering how I can snap a PDF that I'm looking at so that it occupies roughly 50% of the screen. This is so that I can compare and take notes from two pdf documents at a time (where the other pdf would be snapped on the other part of the screen like on windows 7). Thus far the closest I have gotten is this:
i.e. around 20% of the screen.I tried dragging the green part but this causes it to occupy the whole 90% of the screen.
i am trying to enable snap on my 19" 1280x1024 screen but i cant find a way how to do achieve that
View 4 Replies View RelatedI upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 8 Pro. Everytime or almost everytime I click on an app or go to the desktop and try to get on IE 10 (desktop version), my screen flashes and goes black for a few seconds then returns me to the screen with the space needle, then I click on it and it signs me back in. When I try to use Google Chrome, the websites freeze up on me. I don't want to have to reinstall/reformat as I paid $40 for this for one, and secondly, I don't want to have to repurchase Office 2010 as my licenses ran out. I ran every update that comes up and restart, but this doesn't change this issue. . why it does this and any way to fix it without reformatting?

View 2 Replies View RelatedThis is a simple executable shortcut that you can pin to the taskbar or use on the desktop to enter the Start Screen, the only reason I made this is for use with Tihiy's StartIsBack as he enabled the Right Win Key to enter the Modern UI Start Screen instead of the Desktop Start Menu, unfortunately I don't have a Right Windows key so this seemed like a good solution instead of having to use the Charms Bar.

I'm using 8 on a non-touch laptop. I generally like it, but the most frustrating thing to me is that I can't "go back" to a previous screen. For instance, I open an email attachment and it automatically goes into full screen viewing. When I'm done looking at the attachment, how to go back to the previous email screen. So I have to go all the way back to the start screen, and then into my email to get to the previous page. I'm clearly doing it wrong.

Once that happens, we cannot get the screen to come back on again, hitting any keys or mouse buttons, or even tapping the power button, does not do it. It is not asleep or hibernating, the power light is lit and hard drive is spinning. Have to force a shutdown.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have been using my win 8 computer for a few months without the log in screen. I did this by way of the netplwiz run command to the User Account dialogue box. I thought I would go back to using the log in screen, but when I got to the User Account dialogue box, the check box for "must sign in with password" was already checked. So now there doesn't seem to be a way to get the log in screen back.
Is there a way to get my lock screen/login screen back?
Is there an app or a way to move/create shortcut tiles on Start screen for Wireless section for Modern UI settings. I just bought TF810 (YUPI!!!) and would love to have quick access to those parts of the system (sort of as in WP 7.x/8).

I have a Dell Inspiron 7572. I just upgraded to Windows 8.1 and followed some instructions on upgrading the catalyst video driver. I downloaded this and installed and it asked me to restart. However all I get now is a black screen. If I try moving the mouse it appears for a couple of seconds then disappears. I can't find any way to boot into safe mode as I can get anything up on screen. I imagine uninstalling the display driver will fix the issue but I can't work out anyway to get into windows to do it.

When I hit apply the screen started flashing and it went to protrait. I saw thye option to revery back but with they screen flashing I couldn't hit it. Then the settings set in and the screen went back to the sigin in menu in portrait.
I can enter my password, sign in, and then it tries to load the start menu but the screen starts flashing and after about 8 seconds, it goes back to the sign in menu. Now I am stuck in this process and cant get back past the sign in screen to access the control panel and set the screen back to landscape.
I had win7 and Windows 8 on my system. then I deleted win7 and installed a fresh copy. the boot screen is now traditional black and white boot screen where we have to choose OS. I want Windows 8 blue boot screen back.

I am just lost as to how this came to be. Is this application-specific? I would very much prefer all my applications/windows to snap to the edge as they are.
For some reason the Windows 7 style desktop snap has stopped working, I can still snap a metro app to the side of my monitor but not an ordinary program like note pad. I used to either drag the window to the side of the screen or press Windows Key and an arrow to snap it to the left or the right.

So I've never seen how 2 apps snapped look when using a tablet in portrait mode. All I seem to see is landscape snapped apps. So can this even be done on a tablet.

When I initially open a program or browser it opens fine in a small window somewhere on the screen. As soon as i grab the title bar 2 outlined windows appear on screen in Yellow and Red. When I let go of the title bar the program snaps to one of the two positions, when I try to move the window it just keeps snapping back.
So the desktop programs now seem to be behaving as if they were Metro apps and displaying using Metro Snap. It is really bothersome. How I can revert back to normal Desktop operation?
What I want to do is have the ability to play a fullscreen game or a fullscreen video or anything else like that, but have it only take up the screen that the desktop is taking, leaving the rest for a snapped skype or something like that. I found a good thread describing the problem, but no answer to whether or not it is possible to do this. So is this possible? I'd like to have a fullscreen browser open (so it doesn't have the toolbars on top) along with skype. Link :

View 1 Replies View RelatedSo I downloaded the leaked Windows Blue... I bought the Windows 8 upgrade for my main desktop pc, this is just for experimenting on a junky old laptop. Basically I want to check out Blue without having to wait so long.
One of the main things I was looking forward to in Blue was the multiple app snapping as shown below. I can't seem to get it to work though no matter what I do.
My probleem is that snap and the big onscreen keyboard only function after a restart of the system but not at cold boot..
My screen is 22" 1680x1050.
How do I turn off auto arrange, and also stop the snap to grid function on the desktop so I can arrange the tiles exactly the way I want?
