Getting SMART Event On RAID?

I have a second hard drive on my HP DV7 laptop. It's a 750GB Hitachi.
Last week I started getting a SMART event and it would ask if I wanted to check the disk. Now every time I start the computer, it's running chkdsk and found a bunch of bad clusters. Also Some of my directories are missing, yet the space available remains the same, so its not deleting the directories and freeing up the space.
I'm recovering the data tonight but I have a few questions:
1) My data recovery software has the option to skip bad directories. Should I do this? And if I do not skip this, will this simply transfer the errors to the hard drive that I'm recovering to.
2) If I clean and then reformat, will the disk be usable? Or should I just junk it and get a new one.

keep getting it logged as an error. I have gone into Adjust Date and TimeInternet Timeand it is set to automatically synchronize with time.windows.com and on a scheduled basis. When I try to update or change the setting I get an error message that an error occurred while windows was synchronizing. I have tried to do a system file check but get the error message that Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested service or start the Repair Service. I have checked that Windows Modules Installer is set to manual and so I don't know how else I can repair this error 131.

I have 2 RAID 1 mirrors (2 pairs of 2Tb discs) on an i7 870 on GA-P55A-UD7 (Gigabyte) motherboard under Win 7 64bit.
I have ordered a new desktop (i7 4771 on Asus Z87 DELUXE/DUAL MB) (hopefully with 8.1 on it (another thread))
When I get my new desktop will I be able to transfer the two RAID 1 mirrors from the Win7 desktop to the Windows 8.1 desktop and have them work properly?

I have 3 RAID systems;
1. 2x HDD's Internals, in Simple Mode.
2. 4x HDD's Externals, in Spanned Mode.
3. 3x HDD's Externals, in Spanned Mode.
( 2 & 3; In MediaSonic enclosure, eSata Cable with PCI-Express )
I want to format my PC with clean install,
the problem is that all these RAID's are SoftWare & the HDD's are DYNAMIC.
will i be able to use this RAID's normally after the format?
Or i need to break all RAID's, then make it again with the newly installed windows? & HOW?!
PS: my windows 8.1 Pro is on separate SSD.

So I recently just bought an SSD and it's installed in my ASUS G750JX laptop as the boot drive. I did a little research and found out about RAID 0. I did a bit of research and found out that if I set from AHCI to RAID 0, I'll have to reinstall Windows. Now here's the problem. My Windows copy is obviously OEM. Let's say I have set up the RAID 0 and I want to install Windows.
- Is there any way I can use the same product key that came with my laptop to install Windows 8?
- Where do I get the disc or iso for Windows 8/8.1 [Not the PRO version] that is legit? (I tried to Google for an ISO but all of them are for Windows 8.1 PRO
See I would buy Windows 8 again but it's expensive. Before you throw at me things like "Clone your OS to another HDD first", I want a fresh install.
On a side note, I am running Windows 8.1[Not the Pro version]

I had a HDD go bad, so I set up 2 250gb Drives as a raid 1 setup. Windows 8 worked great before HDD Failure, but now after re-installing 8.1, it only runs for about 5 min before I receive DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION. Dump Files are included below.

Also, I have 3 monitors attached. The main Monitor displays the error, while the right monitor remains at the desktop and the left monitor shows a distorted blue screen. (Not sure if it matters..)

Currently using Onboard RAID1 which is just a pair of 1TB SATA drives that boots into windows 8.1. SATA BIOS mode is set to RAID.
I need want to switch the onboard SATA mode to AHCI so I can boot to SSD, instead.
I'm sure some have tried this: If you just clone the RAID partition as it sits on to the SSD, it will not boot the SSD when the SATA Bios mode is set to AHCI.
So, besides a bare-metal reinstall, how do move my Windows 8.1 installation on to the SSD so that when its all done the SSD will boot into windows and the SATA Bios is in AHCI mode? I'm not opposed to purchasing software like Macrium or Acronis if any of those can do the job.
It seems like anyone using onboard RAID would have run into this problem after purchasing an SSD.

I had to reinstall windows. I had a raid 0 with 2 drives, when I started widows the drive couldn't be accessed. so the only option was to convert to dynamic disk. I did that but still cant read or change drive letters. I am pretty sure my data is still on it. but how can I read this disk?
right now I am scanning it with easeUS data recovery and it looks like its finding files. any other way to read the drive?

I currently own but don't have installed (although I did try installing on friday july 18 2014) a lsi megaraid 9341-4i raid controller. When I had it installed, I disabled the intel rst and used my marvell secondary controller for my optical drive putting my two ssd's I wanted to raid on the lsi controller. I also switched all of my storage settings for windows 8 to legacy and not UEFI in windows since the controller can only be seen by the motherboard in legacy mode. After that, I configured the lsi bios to create a raid 0 on the ssd's and proceeded to install windows 8.1 64 bit. When I get to the point of a fresh install of windows and it asks me to load a driver, I do and it finds the 9341-4i and installs the driver. However, when the driver is done installing, there is no raid array to be found. I redid the raid array with full initialization and still no dice. My question is: why is windows not seeing any raid array after the driver successfully installs. I am using the most current from LSI's website windows 8.1 64 bit driver for the card too.

Few days ago a friend showed me a great OSx functionality - Smart Folders. Basically it is a "virtual" folder, does not really contains files but rather an active search folder.
Let say you want to have a place that will display only word/text documents created within last 5 days, or only doc files.... regardless of where they really are.
Can you get such functionality in Windows? I know "search" pretty good but using it instead of set folder, means we have to perform search every time we want to display files we look for.

USB recovery image for a Vivotab Smart? I put mine on a flash drive, deleted it from my tablet's hard drive, and then that flash drive died! It will be a huge file to download but it would be a very important backup.

Until very recently i was running Windows 8 with a 240 GB Sandisk SSD as a primary and a 2 TB Western Digital Green HDD as a storage. I decided to set up a RAID 1 setup so i purchased a second 2 TB HDD and installed it.
My intent was to run windows 8 off the 240 SSD as a primary and have a RAID 1 setup for my 2TB HDDs.
I learnt that my data configuration was set to AHCI. I decided to do a complete clean install and change the sata configuration in BIOS to RAID.
After successfully creating a RAID volume using my 2TB HDDs i proceeded to install Windows off my primary. I am however having difficulties in that it will not allow me to install windows on either drive.

I have some programs (on my PC) that I would like to install somehow onto my vivotab. I am not super programmer literate so simple terms are best. I plugged my tablet into my PC to try to just drag the program over (apparently that is a no go). I even got so far as to drag it into the public file and it showed up on my tablet but doesn't work when I try to open it so I don't think it actually moved the whole program.
I do have the CDs for the programs but obviously there is no CD drive on the tablet. I do not have an external CD drive and do not plan on getting one, I am hoping there is some way to just transfer the program from my PC or somehow use my PC AS an augmented CD drive.

I upgraded the O/S to Win8 Pro from Standard in order to use the WMC and now the Sleep mode doesn't behave as before.
how to reset it back to the factory settings? The Win8 RESET function under the Control panel returns it back to a fresh copy of Win8 Pro and not Win8 Standard. I also see a recovery partition on its Hard Drive.

I have one of the above tablets that came with windows 8.
Id like to do a clean install of windows 8.1 but the widows 8 key that came with it doesn't seem to work with 8.1.
Ive installed windows 8.1 using the generic key but i cant get my key to activate 8.1. when i insert the supplied key into windows it says the key cant be used ( or summit at work atm)
Is the problem that the windows 8 key it came with says ' Windows 8 Small Screen Touch '?

My tablet is running fine, but I did something (not bright) which could leave me in a lurch later. Here's what I did, and what I'm looking for.
Soon after I purchased my Asus VivoTab Smart, I made a USB recovery disk, complete with recovery partition. Then, to save disk space on the tablet, I deleted the recovery partition on the tablet. So far, so good. Where I blew it was when I got my flash drives mixed up and then erased my USB recovery disk! The tablet runs fine, but if I ever want to refresh it or do a reset, I need the recovery partition, either on the tablet or on a flash drive.
Is it possible to get that partition back?

I installed windows 8.1 in clean mode . now I want to reset to factory default but I have not backuped media. but I have recovery partition but I can not build recovery disk because when I use"create recovery drive" wizard I can not select " copy the recovery partition from the pc to the recovery drive" because it is inactive.

I bought a sumsung Ativ smart pc about a year ago, recently had to take it in for repairs (still under warranty), before taking it in I used the "windows 7 recovery" system (despite being in windows 8) to create a system image, I then reset my computer to factory settings
Have the image on a USB drive, just got the computer back, however I cannot restore my computer. Not sure why but whenever I select the restore option it wont let me pick a local folder or usb drive as the location of the backup image, it seems to be looking exclusively for networked drives/machines
I've read I may need a restore cd to get this working, however my tablet only has 1 usb drive and no disk drive, what should I do?

I actually installed the Android on Intel Architecture onto my Samsung xe700t a few times over the last few months, adjusting windows 8 or android options to suit my needs, but a few days ago I decided to format my laptop and reinstall Windows 8 and reinstall Android as I have previously, I am now getting this error message at the very end of the android installation process:
fatal: assertion failed bootable/iago/plugins/gummiboot.c:gummiboot_execute:154 'efibootmgr encountered an error (status 100) root@android:/#
I have updated the bios, I have made sure my laptop is in UEFI format, I have made secure the BIOS isn't in secure boot, I have tried various USB sticks, I have also made sure the USB stick is first in the boot order.
So why I can't install Intel Android onto my pc anymore ...

I think I got this Event Log error after I upgraded to 8.1 but I' not sure. Anyway, when I go to event viewer I get a message that says "One or more logs in the query have errors" and then is says the Log that it cannot find is "Microsoft-Windows-DxpTaskRingtone/Analytic". I have looked and the log does not exist and OF COURSE when I try to cheat the system and create the log it does not like the "/" in the name! What the heck is going on and how I can tell Windows 8.1 to create the log.

It has been a long, long time since I have wanted to clear the event log and that was under Windows 7. I would like to clear the log under Windows 8 but can find no way to do it. It seems like I remember using 'Clear Log' under Actions but that doesn't seem to be there in Windows 8.

I recently upgraded to Windows 8.1 from Windows 8 and started getting a whole bunch of Event Log Errors. Today I downloaded and installed new drivers for Windows 8.1 that were posted on the ASRock site dated 10/25/2013. Much to my surprise the new drivers actually made most of the Event Log Errors go away - at least for now!
The first one is the Event ID 257, Defrag Error. I did a fresh install of Windows 8 and let it setup the SSD with the three partitions - Recover Partition, EFI System Partition and the Windows 8 Partition. I use Acronis 2013 to back up the SSD on a regular basis! For some reason Windows 8.1 wants to Defrag a partition on the SSD? What do I have to change to make the Event Log Error stop. What have I done to cause the problem?
The second one is the Event ID 10016, DistributedCom Error. I have Googled/Binged and have come up with what appears to be, at least for a novice, convoluted procedures to fix. Is there a real straight forward detailed instruction on how to go about changing whatever it is that needs to be changed to fix the error. Again, what did I do to the system to make this error happen?
I'm real close to a system that might be Event Log Error free (at least for a moment) if that is possible.
