Dec 31, 2013I installed windows 8.1 in clean mode . now I want to reset to factory default but I have not backuped media. but I have recovery partition but I can not build recovery disk because when I use"create recovery drive" wizard I can not select " copy the recovery partition from the pc to the recovery drive" because it is inactive.

Jan 8, 2014My BT keyboard is no longer discoverable by my ASUS Vivotab ME 400C.
Seemed to suddenly stop working after a couple of incidents where a letter would be repeated 1 hundred times. (i.e. "eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee" for "e")
The keyboard was recognized by my Blackberry and is working.
I went to Windows Support section and it said to go to PC Settings/Devices/Bluetooth and turn Bluetooth on, but I was unable to locate a place to turn Bluetooth off or on.
I went into Device ManagerBluetoothBluetooth Radio and found status "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems (Code 43)."
This may have occurred quite shortly after I installed an ASUS BIOS update, but I think it was a couple of days at least. I installed Windows 8.1 when it was initially released and had problems with SDBUS shutting down the tablet. The BIOS update fixed that.
I checked the Driver on the Bluetooth radio and it says it's the best one for the device.
I thought maybe I should uninstall/re-install the driver but I've never done this. That is I don't know if the Bluetooth icon will disappear altogether or something wierd.
Asus VivoTab Smart Recovery?
Jul 30, 2013USB recovery image for a Vivotab Smart? I put mine on a flash drive, deleted it from my tablet's hard drive, and then that flash drive died! It will be a huge file to download but it would be a very important backup.

May 6, 2013My tablet is running fine, but I did something (not bright) which could leave me in a lurch later. Here's what I did, and what I'm looking for.
Soon after I purchased my Asus VivoTab Smart, I made a USB recovery disk, complete with recovery partition. Then, to save disk space on the tablet, I deleted the recovery partition on the tablet. So far, so good. Where I blew it was when I got my flash drives mixed up and then erased my USB recovery disk! The tablet runs fine, but if I ever want to refresh it or do a reset, I need the recovery partition, either on the tablet or on a flash drive.
Is it possible to get that partition back?

Aug 26, 2013I have some programs (on my PC) that I would like to install somehow onto my vivotab. I am not super programmer literate so simple terms are best. I plugged my tablet into my PC to try to just drag the program over (apparently that is a no go). I even got so far as to drag it into the public file and it showed up on my tablet but doesn't work when I try to open it so I don't think it actually moved the whole program.
I do have the CDs for the programs but obviously there is no CD drive on the tablet. I do not have an external CD drive and do not plan on getting one, I am hoping there is some way to just transfer the program from my PC or somehow use my PC AS an augmented CD drive.

Mar 6, 2014I actually installed the Android on Intel Architecture onto my Samsung xe700t a few times over the last few months, adjusting windows 8 or android options to suit my needs, but a few days ago I decided to format my laptop and reinstall Windows 8 and reinstall Android as I have previously, I am now getting this error message at the very end of the android installation process:

I have updated the bios, I have made sure my laptop is in UEFI format, I have made secure the BIOS isn't in secure boot, I have tried various USB sticks, I have also made sure the USB stick is first in the boot order.
So why I can't install Intel Android onto my pc anymore ...
ASUS K75DE Windows 8 And 7 Dual Boot - Boot Options Grayed Out In BIOS
Dec 15, 2013I just got a refurbished ASUS K75DE laptop, and it came with Windows 8 on it. I am wanting to run a dual boot with Win7, so I disabled fast-boot just fine, and went into the UEFI BIOS and disabled the secure boot.
While I was there, I did like I have always done and set a BIOS boot-up password. I then proceed to boot to my Win7 installer USB Flash drive, but I was running low on battery power so I aborted the install and shut the computer down to try again later.
Now however when I get into BIOS to select boot priority, all options are grayed out except for system time and a few other non-essentials. At the bottom of the first BIOS screen it says "User Level : User" and I can't seem to find a way to reverse this issue. So now I'm stuck, can't boot to anything but the HDD because it is first by default.

Aug 23, 2014So far I am extremely happy with my Asus table and Windows 8.1. Everything I have tried to do was simple and easy except one thing. Since for some (stupid reason IMO) reason few of the Windows tablets have the GPS enabled the ME400C included so i am forced to use a Bluetooth GPS. But I have found few maps that are off line. I have tried about every app I can find and the most promising was HERE that has offline maps but it doesn't seem to support the GPS, at least I haven't been able to get it to see my BT GPS. Any good combination of the works with a Bluetooth GPS and has offline maps?

Apr 16, 2013I have a Asus VivioTab ME400C. I am trying to instal Microsoft Autoroute onto my tablet. I have tried over the network from my desktop using the /a option to install over a network (which Autoroute Demands). But when I try to instal Autoroute from the transferred code it demand disk 2 be inserted but fails to recognise it.
There must be a way of installing programs from a CD/DVD on Windows 8.
I tried copying the CD's to SD drives but no luck. Also tried moving the install code to one directory.
The annoying thing is I did this last week but later the SD card failed.

It does not have a usb port but perhaps could put files on sd card but don't know if there is enough space on the hard drive although retailer tell me there is. I want tablet to take whenout of the office for a few days and need to be able to use word.

Aug 21, 2013I have an ASUS VivoTab that kept draining the battery. I noticed that after shutting down, I would open up the case or transleeve and discover it was on.
After determining that I hadn't accidentally left it on, I watched it after shutting down one evening and indeed about 2 minutes later, it turned itself back on.
I shut it down using the shutdown from the initial screen. That is, I did not use the Charms bar, select Settings and shut down. This appears to work.
Is this a wonky tablet? Related to Windows 8?

Jul 26, 2013I have made a System Image & a Custom Recovery Image on my Asus Vivotab but I cannot get the system to recognize them on a USB Hard Drive.
I got into this by testing the Refresh Custom Recovery Image. The system did not find the image as the system allocated a different drive letter so I have basic Refresh. I have found my way to the Administrator Command but cannot find RECIMG on either the x: or C: drives. Do I need a Path Command from System32?
I also have a System image on a USB Hard Drive but cannot get the system to find it. I have tried putting the files folders in the root directory but the system still does not recognise them.

Sep 25, 2013I have an ASUS Vivotab running Windows 8. I am seeing that the service process hits 100% disk usage from roughly 4:58PM - 5:04PM daily. I've made sure that my antivirus is't downloading updates or running during that time, same with Windows Update, Live Update, etc. How can I find what specific process is running during that time that is killing the machine given I know when to watch for it?

Id like to do a clean install of windows 8.1 but the widows 8 key that came with it doesn't seem to work with 8.1.
Ive installed windows 8.1 using the generic key but i cant get my key to activate 8.1. when i insert the supplied key into windows it says the key cant be used ( or summit at work atm)
Is the problem that the windows 8 key it came with says ' Windows 8 Small Screen Touch '?

I migrated Window 8 to an SSD, removed that from the system, installed new SSD and put Windows 7 on it. Both worked fine. I wound up with 2 SSD's. capable of running on the EFI BIOS machine with Secure Boot turned off. I later bought a new laptop with Windows 8. I found the Win 8 with Classic Shell to be very acceptable.
What I would like to do now ,if possible, is to mount both SSD's in the HP case and switch to either one of them at boot.

Apr 28, 2014I had windows 7 running on my computer. When windows 8 came out I used a second harddrive as the windows 8 installation drive. Windows 8 automatically setup a dual boot system where every time I started the computer it took me a windows screen where I could select either windows 7 or windows 8. This has been going on since Windows 8 was released.
I decided it was getting old so I decided it was time to remove the old windows 7 harddrive. I tried doing it inside the windows 8 dual boot screen but could not find an option. So I decided to reformat the windows 7 harddrive. I did this in command prompt mode. After doing so when my computer restarted it said it could not find any harddrive to boot. Windows 8 is installed on the other harddrive, the one that was not reformatted. So how do I get it to start using that harddrive as the boot drive? I checked my bios and even physically disconnected the old HD that had windows 7 on it, but none of that seemed to work even though the Windows 8 HD is definitely in the boot order in the bios.
Dual Boot Linux Preventing Windows Boot?
Jul 11, 2014I recently felt the urge to experiment with Linux and installed Ubuntu Mint and tried to set up dual booting.
However I seem to have only suceeded in preventing Windows booting at all. I cannot get into the recovery drive to undo my wrong doing.
How can I reset the windows boot manager without access to windows or recovery partitions?

Jun 8, 2013I am dual booting Windows 8 and win7. I actually have Windows 8 installed on its own hard drive and win 7 installed in its own hard drive. The win7 hard drive has been in use for the past 2 years and I have had Windows 8 running for about a week now. I purchased another hard drive for Windows 8 and left the old Win7 as it was.
I also have 3 other hard drives in the system. Everything is formatted NTFS.
So my system is as follows
Drive C - Boot Drive - I physically swap out the dedicated hard drive for Win 8 or Win 7
Drive D - internal 250 GB sata drive
Drive F - internal 250 GB sata drive
Drive H - internal 250 GB hard drive.
I have been running this config for about 2 years under Win7 with no problems.
The problem that I have now is when I swap the boot drive and boot up a different OS than last time (Like booting Windows 8, powering down system, swap boot drive, boot Win7) the system always says that there are problems on the 3 non-boot drives. It runs chkdsk(it least that is what it look like) and processes the 3 non boot disks one at a time which take about 10-12 minutes for all 3. Most of the time it finds no problems, but about 1 out of 5 boots will find a problem with one of the disks and then fixes it. The disks seem to be OK while I am running. I then power down and swap boot drive and reboot the other os and we start all over again. I am powering the system completely down for each reboot to make sure that the disk cache is flushed.So far the disk problems have been fixed by chkdsk at boot, but I am sure the day will come when the disk cannot be fixed and I will loose data.

Dec 11, 2013I cloned my existing Windows installation (8.1 pro, 32 bit) onto my new SSD. I got everything up and running, and I still have my old Windows installation on one of the partitions of my HDD.
Can I turn this setup into a dual boot?
I think this could be useful, in case the new installation gets borked, or in order to run an effective malware scan on the SSD, etc.

Apr 11, 2013I'm having a hard time with WinPE 4.0. For starters, my USB is 128GB, which means I have to use exFAT - according to some people, it should work, but others say it won't. So far no luck.
Also, it's my only USB and any way to boot both x86 and x64 WinPE 4.0 from it. Even if I have to use separate partitions, that would be fine.
Finally, I have to do this in UEFI mode.... BIOS won't work on the device I'm trying to boot to.
Remove XP From Dual Boot?
May 3, 2014I have an older tower running W8.1 update 1 and Wxp - each OS is on a separate hard drive, when I boot the computer I get the choice of booting to W8.1 or earlier OS. I am now ready to remove the XP drive and delete all the information, my question is:
Is there a proper method to remove the choice of OS on the boot screen, or will it be removed if I just remove the hard drive with XP on it?

Feb 16, 2013I have new pc that has windows 8 pro installed. I would like to dual boot with windows 7 because certain software for work is not compatible with win 8. I was reading that I can create a vhd from windows 8, boot to the windows 7 installation media and install win 7 to the vhd, then I have the option to select win 7 or 8. Am I missing something here or is it as easy as this? Also do I need Win 7 ultimate or will he professional one work? I do not want to partition the hard drive.

Mar 16, 2013I set up a dual boot with Windows 7 and 8 and it is extremely slow up until the Windows 7 and 8 appear. From that point on both load quickly. Also under the Windows 7 icon it says "recovered". Otherwise eveerything seems to be functioning normally.
