View 9 RepliesMy problem is that no matter how hard I try I can't get more than 4 rows on my start page
I have installed Windows 8 on a PC with the following hardware:
nVidia graphics card and latest drivers.
A Dell 27" monitor running at 1920x1200
A secondary DVI to HDMI cable to a 54" Samsung TV (1920x1080) - used for Media Center
I have googled the web in vain and tried many solutions which involve changing registry keys or specifying the MonitorSize. I have also tried the Decor8 app but it limits me to 4 rows.
I have tried unplugging the TV and rebooted but this didn't work.
About the only interesting thing I can find is that if in my display settings I switch to 1080p I only get 3 rows, and if at 1200p I switch to portrait mode I then get more rows - but obviously this isn't particularly useful since my monitor can't pivot.
By comparison I have a VM at work running Windows 8 at 1920x1080 and it happily displays 6 rows - go figure.
My Lenovo G580 laptop won't start up. When I turn it on using the power button it goes straight to boot menu/app menu. There are various options there to choose from, but whichever one I choose, it keeps going back to boot menu. I've tried using the novo button, but it still doesn't work. Whatever I choose from the novo button screen, except "BIOS setup", keeps taking me back to the boot menu. My laptop won't start up.

So recently after the windows update. The one that makes Windows 8.1 more "keyboard and mouse" friendly
Every time i restart my computer,it logs in quiche but the start up programs take forever to run around 3~5
The list of start programs is there on the screen shot
The rest of them are disabled
My laptop has two users, once called work and one called gaming, and when i tried to log into work yesterday, the welcome screen with the spinning dots just kept going. the only way to stop it was to power off and reboot. at first i thought there was something wrong with it, but i tried logging into my other user (gaming) and it worked perfectly fine. i can even access the files in the work user from the gaming user.
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy laptop went lagging while i was using it, so i restarted my laptop. After that, my laptop went into a mode that i have never experienced before. I clicked advanced setting, It made me choose either to restore it, reset it, and another one but i can't remember it. I chose the reset button, and currently it is stuck on RESET YOU PC. And its taking a very long time. I don't have my recovery disc or drive. I saved it before on a flash drive, unfortunately it died.

View 3 Replies View Related3 days before my Windows 8.1 pc wasn't working during log in it showed up with "The System Event Notification Service service failed the sign in."
I posted this thread but no one replied then back yesterday I ran it into Safe Mode and used the CMD and put these "sfc/scannow" then the PC booted into Safe Mode.
But in my Start Menu many apps won't open accept Facebook, Twitter, Photos and the Store opens, and when I goto install apps it shows "This app wasn't installed"
And my Start menu is like this:
And the "sfc/scannow" command shows that there are Corrupted or Missing Files Then I also did these:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /ScanhealthDISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth But then also no luck .what to do I updated my PC from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 4 days before And this happened 3 days before And the PC started to boot from yesterday.
I have a pretty new computer. Just a few months old. It is supposed to be a good one.
Dell XPS 8500
Quad core i7 processor
lots of memory and extras
This computer also has the 64 bit edition of Windows 8 installed on it. Windows 8 is driving me up the wall!!! I have had numerous problems with it since day 1.
As recently as a few days ago, my system was running reasonably okay. Then I downloaded a driver for my network card from the dell.com website. From that point on, I cannot get my computer to boot up properly. I have turned my computer off and on multiple times in hopes that it would correct whatever is wrong.
When I first turn my PC on, it will stay stuck at the Dell logo window for a while.
Sometimes it will make it past that and it will give me an error message that says:
"error sending end of post message to ME, system HALT!"
Also, I sometimes get a message which says:
"the last USB device you connected to the computer malfunctioned, and Windows did not recognize it.
Try reconnecting the device. If windows still does not recognize it, your device may not be working properly."
This is insanity. I have NOT connected any new USB devices to my computer.
I do not know what to do. I figured that the easiest thing might be to try simply reinstalling Windows 8 from scratch. So I inserted my Windows 8 reinstall disk that Dell sent me when I bought this thing. However, my computer will not boot from this disk. So I guess I am stuck.
I was casually using my pc and it suddenly shutdown. I tried to restart it, but it's stuck on black screen. Here's the thing there was no windows logo or no bios or no nothing appeared on the screen. It just goes black even if I restart it a hundred times. I am sure the cables of the monitor are fine and I am also sure that there are signals coming from the pc.
P. S. I even ASSUMED that the pc must have switched on and typed password to login and waited enough to get it to sleep mode and then recover from there. But still no luck.
I wanted to upgrade it manually to windows 8.1, so i used a usb keyboard to access bios settings and I disabled uefi. After reboot, i got a bootmenu which didn't booted in my usb installation. I messed up then with the bios, and after rebooting i couldn't even use the keyboard anymore. I am stuck now at the boot menu.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently got all 5 restore disks, language disk, 3 of 3 recovery disks and the 1 of 1 system disk. I followed the instructions and on the 2nd thing where I did not need to insert a disk, I believe it was calling Passwords or something, forget. But it was at 96% when it then started doing [RETRY] about twenty times.
After that, it says ImageX Error: System could not find specified file.
I followed the instructions. After I hit "Ok" it started beeping until I shut it off. Now it won't even boot up. All it says is "Preparing Automatic Repair" and then goes black, then "Diagnosing your PC" comes up. This is the reason before I had to buy the disks, but it'd still turn on. Just not onto the desktop screen.
When I boot up my windows 8 pc it gets stuck on the alienware loading screen. It finishes loading but gets stuck. The page is un·responsible - so that means i can't use F2 or F12.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've purchased my Lenovo Twist (came with Windows 8.0) about a year ago and I've upgraded to windows 8.1 when it was released in the windows store. Months after I upgraded I ran into a few problems, I was unable to access apps on my metro screen. None of the solutions worked so my only choice was to refresh or reset. I've tried going into the recovery option on boot and the refresh option on the settings both said I needed installation media. I was unable to create a recovery media because the checkbox was grayed out on the "Create a Recovery Drive".
After doing some searching I decided to download the evaluation copy of windows 8.1. I extracted the Install.wim file and set it as my OS image on reagentc.exe. I was still unable to refresh because it said "The drive where windows is installed is locked". The reset option worked, after I completed the reset I was expecting it to bring me back to windows 8.1 instead I was on the evaluation version.
I also noticed that the F11 option on boot disappeared after the reset.
I was using my laptop yesterday when I went to lock my account. When I did this, the laptop presumed to shut off. It now boots up fine, but I cannot pass the Welcome Screen to login.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have 2 accounts on this PC, one is a MS account, the other is the built-in Administrator account, which I renamed and assigned a complex password to make it difficult for anyone to get into. However, I recently disabled the Admin account with the "net user administrator /active:no" command, and then deleted both the Administrator and Enigma (the name which I renamed it to) folders in C:Users. I also went into Control Panel and made sure that the user is gone, it does not appear now. I can still log into my PC via the MS account since it has admin rights.
But after rebooting the Admin/Enigma account still appears on the login screen and asks for a password. So I reenter the old password and it then hangs with a "Preparing Windows" message. Then I do a hard reset and log into the MS account, I can see that a TEMP folder has been created at C:Users, which I assume was created as a result of trying to log in as Admin/Enigma. I'm not sure, but I'm guessing that the PC still remembers the password and other info associated with the account, and that info must still be stored somewhere in the Registry. That seems to be the only logical cause of the issue.
So, I need locating that info and resetting it, because I intend to reactivate Admin again, but this time I'm going to leave it alone. I had deleted it in the 1st place because of the appearance of 2 usernames for the account at C:Users, and found that odd, so I figured I could get rid of both and then recreate/reset. I rarely use the account anyways because it is a security risk, and only to do a handful of things that I've had trouble doing with the MS account, despite it having admin privilidges.
About a week ago I had the same exact problem. When I would turn on my pc it would try to diagnose my computer, repair it, and then fail and find no problem. I didn't find any solutions so I did a fresh install. Now its happening all over again. I originally thought the problem was my OS and re installing would fix my problem. Now I think that my SSD (OCZ Vertex 450) might be the problem.
I think that disabling automatic repair could also fix the problem, but I don't want to turn that off and cause another potential problem if it wont stop the boot loop. I also have a hard drive which I could install windows on if I need to, but I am not sure my SSD is the problem and if it cant be fixed. I haven't been downloading anything lately, and I formatted both my SSD and hard drive when I did a clean install so I don't think the problem is a virus.
Asus laptop Windows 8 stuck at Resetting PC 2%, Only option is hard reset??
This laptop belongs to my Grandma (87 years old). **She did not make the recovery disk for the computer.**
I got to the Recovery options and it has been stuck at 2% for about 6 hours. Asus OEM X55C Windows 8
NOTE: Yesterday I told Grandma I would see what was wrong, but it would bug out, freeze, etc when trying to log into the administrator. The screen would go totally black and then freeze. So, the computer has shut down improperly several times.
However, it did repair the disk last night before I attempted this recovery.
I recently upgraded to windows 8.1 from windows 7. Installation went fine and first time I loaded into windows perfectly. I only installed the following: killer enthernet driver and google chrome (also nobodies graphics driver)I reset my computer and it goes through the logo then goes into a blank blue screen where I can move my cursor. What I've tried: I can log into safe mode. Right now I am resetting the PC (file wipe). I can't seem to attach an image on mobile.
View 4 Replies View Relatedwindows 8 is stuck on shut down screen for a longtime and if I do hard reboot with power button the same screen comes up and will not let me do anything.
I always run anti virus and am very careful about any downloads and files.
When moving my cursor between my two monitors, it stops at the border. To get to the other screen I either have to keep moving my mouse towards the border or move the cursor at high speed between the two. The issue occurs no matter where I cross, and does not appear to be related to the metro charms or multitasking.
My desktop just recently installed the Windows 8.1 Update (Pro 64-bit), and since then I have had this problem off and on. I do not know what causes it to happen. I have two monitors, side by side. A 1050x1680 monitor on the left, with a 1920x1080 monitor on the right. The top edges of these monitors are aligned.
This phenomenon is incredibly annoying, so any methods of stopping. I'd also be interested to know how and why this happens.
My Toshiba Windows 8 is stuck on the Boot Menu and I don't know how to get pass it.

Bought a new laptop with preinstalled Windows 8, didn't like it, went into laptop bios, think i deleted some drivers or commands to get me into windows 8 again. dont see any driver options, boot options priorities and cant add new ones
Think i deleted the default one, have nothing under boot options. Once I started the machine it goes right to the bios
the boot devise driver into windows i think is missing.
Unrelated images not mine, but kinda looked like this: [URL] .....
So, since yesterday, Windows 8.1 tries to boot, then gets halfway through, shows a sad face for a second, and then restarts. It does this again and again. Just get the message "Failure configuring Windows updates. Undoing changes. Don't turn off your computer" then "Configuring Windows updates, 30% complete. Don't turn off your computer".
Then it boots, does the same thing again.
I've tried booting from the install media, but Refresh doesn't work, nor restarting in safe mode. Weirdly, pressing F2 to load BIOS, which always used to work, no longer does, it just continues trying to load Windows.
I've got an oldish PC, around 4/5 years old, with Windows 8 installed. Its got a fairly decent processor (at the time), a Q9550. Intel DP43TF motherboard.
I recently, restored my acer m5-581ptg to factory settings, since it is an older version (2012), there were about 111 updates that needed to be installed. That all went fine and then on startup, it starts up and shows the loading sign and 'please wait'.
I tried tapping f8 and shift + f8 with no luck whatsoever, and i also disconnected from power supply and took out battery, and restarted, still starts up 'no funny noises or anything' and then just sits on 'please wait'.
I had my notebook for about 7 months and it has worked fine for me. It's an hP winter blue with 4gb of ram. Today I force shut down the laptop, which I've done many times before, but this time it wouldn't reboot properly. So I had to refresh my PC. When it refreshed I noticed that it was EXTREMELY buggy and laggy and slow. Like it take 3-4 minutes to open a program or to close a window. I tried to update to windows 8.1 but it said I had to update my current windows. There's 102 updates but it stays at 0%....
