I was restarting my Dell Windows 8.1 laptop in my school, but after noticing it took unusually long (not sure if it was running an update) to be restarted. I forced it to shut down, however when I reached home, and tried to turn on my laptop, it doesn't work. It took unusually long to load at "Getting Windows ready, do not turn off your Computer" or "Please Wait" screen, and when it finally passed that screen, I am still unable to log in using both the pin code and the passcode, the pin code caused the screen to freeze after key-in and the passcode have me logged in into a blank, black screen. I tried to start Task Manager but it wont show up and I can't have access to Advance Startup Option.

I am able to Skype For Desktop on Windows 8.1. Turns out it is not just me.
For starters it takes Skype several minutes to send and recvive messages as well as the CPU usage varying from 35%-60%(Average is 45-50%) it is also constantly using more than 0.3MB/s disk usage. But now and again Skype will tell me I have revived a messaged when in fact the message it said I revived was sent in Late December. Also it says some people are not on my contact list/ offline when infarct they are on my contact list and are online.
I have tried Skype on other machines and it works just fine.
I am having problems with windows 8 restore,I download Ares music file and I think it brought error 0x81000204 with it.
At first I tried to uninstall the Ares download, with no results ,it kept telling me to close it ,it was running in another program, this is when i tried to restore system but was unable to restore.I eventually went into programs and checked for everything that download on that date and was able to get rid of the Ares file.I did a malware check and it showed several threats like pup,optional.somoto.etc.I did get rid of those. But it still won't restore. Is there safe download fix to get rid of this error or do I have to uninstall windows 8 and re-install it.
When viewing mp3/jpg/mp4 files in library or search view, one is unable to modify tag and metadata to these files. This is a new problem since the release of Windows 8.1. Prior to that (Windows 8), this problem was nonexistent.

This issue is obviously breaking the search functionality.
In some apps like facebook, twitter and other many i'm unable to scroll but at the same time i'm able to scroll in windows store app and other app like ESPNcricinfo.
I'm able to scroll through my touchpad then why I'm not able to scroll in one of the prominent apps as a substitute for scrolling. I've to use keyboard arrow keys which is very tedious and laborious.
I have had this Samsung laptop for just about a year. It came with windows 8 installed ( I also have a Samsung system recovery disk that I requested) and I have had problems all along. My old laptop had windows vista and I think part of the problem is that my settings somehow were synched with old computer. My old computer had a workgroup, which got synched with new computer. I have tried several times to reset/restore windows 8 to factory settings and at first glance it looks right but a lot of my old settings are still there, especially in internet explorer. Also when I go into advanced repair it says that it cannot be repaired.
I also just found this, but I'm not sure it applies and I don't want to change any settings that I shouldn't be:
Please note that you cannot use Refresh or Reset Your PC features if Windows 8 or 8.1 is installed on a drive with GPT (not MBR) partition table until you force "UEFI only" boot setting in BIOS/EFI. Windows will not detect GPT partition alignment correctly if BIOS booting is enabled.
And this is what shows under my available drives:
available drives local disk (C (System) SAMSUNG_REC2 (C (Missing)
i had been using video.........but for the last few days i was not able to play video....using the icon selected frm windows 8 start menu.....and its not able to update......
I can't access WinStore and PC Settings, it just takes me back to my Start Screen. I tried using Microsoft's Fix-it stuff and said I have missing files and dll.I don't want to refresh or reset my PC , but if I have no choice, I will have to do so. And also I tried to sfc /scannow and this is the result.
So about a few days ago my windows 8.1 decided to shit itself and refused to start up. I started checking on the web for some solutions to my problem and one of them was to start up with the windows DVD and try running the repair tool and such.
So I decided to do that, but no matter what option I tried, be it repair tool, recovery, full recovery, roll back, none of the options worked, it kept telling me "this operation system doesnt support this feature" or something along those lines. So in the end I just desided to format the HDD and reinstall Windows 8 and its running fine right now.
My question is why wasnt I able to use those features, and how can I make sure I have those feature available for me in the future?
Note: As I was typing this I just realised the DVD I tried using to use those various tools was a Windows 8 DVD, the windows I had installed was 8.1.
I have just recently acquired a brand new laptop running Windows 8, and I'm experiencing an issue with editing the details of MP3 files. I can right-click any MP3 to open its properties and access the Details tab, but when I click on the fields for the different tags, nothing happens.
I don't recall ever having this issue on my previous laptop with Windows Vista, so I'm at loss trying to understand what is going on here. I'm not very tech savvy about the subject of permissions and accessibility, but it doesn't really seem to be related to that. The files are listed under my local user directory.
I have been trying to reboot my dells laptop (windows 8) but I cannot because it's asking for a recovery media and restart with the media. I did not create a recovery disc yet, so how can I reboot my laptop without a disc?
I've been trying to download windows update on a fresh install of windows 8 pro with different dvds like Windows 8 Pro With media center & without media center{With & without activating it}. But every time I tried downloading it I get "Code 8024402F Windows update ran into a problem". I've checked my internet connection which is ok, I've tried downloading it with Windows defender, Windows firewall and Windows smart screen off but to of no avail
I run Windows 8.1 and out of the blue I've recently found that I cant rename a new folder that I've created (so far I've tried it in music , docs , photos and by creating a folder on desktop so seems pretty universal). I've not installed any programmes (except for the latest windows updates) that could have triggered this.
What happens in that when I try to rename the new folder I get a dialogue box that says "cant find specified file make sure you specify correct path and file name." with the options "try again or cancel. When I click on cancel I get a new box that says "file or folder does not exist" which is odd as I've just created it and it is listed as new folder, When I click on it, it opens normally
The same issue occurs when I try to rename existing folders.
I am logged on as an administrator
I'm a bit stuck in term sof my files and folders if I cant rename them
Today I updated my Windows pro 8 PC to 8.1. Now it shows activate the license. When I'm running "Windows Vista - 7 - 8 - 8.1 KMS Activator Ultimate 2014 v1.8" tool, it shows following error.
.net_framework.pngWin license issue.png
This too display it successfully activated the Windows, but "System properties" windows shows it's not activated. Previously I used Windows loader to activate the Windows 8 pro.
Upgraded to Windows 8.1 from Windows store. Can't use refresh or reset anymore.
Installed Windows 8.1 trial. Can't use Windows 8 OEM key to activate it.
Attempted to install windows 8 from Microsoft site, so I could use my Windows 8 OEM key, however, won't accept key on site because it says it is not a retail key.
How can I get Windows 8 back on my computer, activated with my OEM key?
If I do that then I guess I can upgrade it again from the Windows store to Windows 8.1.
This morning i got a "blue screen of death" and my pac said "your pc has ran into some problems". It then fixed everything and all was fine. I then typed "sfc / scannow" in command prompt and come up with the message "windows resource protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them windows 8".
I moved to windows 8 recently and i am not able to connect to my vpn,I checked with support team and they told to change registry name for vpn and In websites also it was like that I did everything like that but still same issue....
I have been running my desktop system under WIndows 8.1 since release, and I started having a problem the other day.
The system seems to have hung up completely, so I powered it down (it is usually up 24 x 7 since I use it as a DVR along with my computer usage).
It seemed to be ok when it powered up, but then a bit later it asked to reboot to finish installing updates.
It has not booted since.
During reboot, it displays the Windows logo and the spinning dots for a few seconds, and then the screen blanks, and my monitor loses signal. I have left it for quite a while and it doesn't come back. After some time, it goes into sleep mode (slowly flashing power indicator), so something is going on at some level. I have powered off and back on, and removed the power cord for a minute to see if anything different happened... it doesn't.
I have tried pressing F8 and Shift-F8 during reboots to try to get to safe mode, but so far no good. Last night, I used my laptop and seem to be able to access shares, but unfortunately it appears that the things I want/need most are not shared.
The bad part is that I haven't been able to locate my recovery disc, but I will continue to look.
I bought the system with Windows 7 right before 8.0 was released, and When 8.0 came out, I got the cheap upgrade and before loading it, installed an SSD for my C: Drive, and kept the existing HDD for my D: Everything has been running well until this incident.
I have Windows 7 64 bit Ultimate installed and activated. I am trying to upgrade to Windows 8 and the upgrade assistant tells me it needs at least 2gb when I have 8gb and Windows 7 sees and knows I have 8gb
I am thinking it could be my bios, but it's already at the latest version
Here are some photos from my bios, so you can tell me if there is anything I need to enable.
These are photos from my bios. I need to change to get this to work.
Windows 8 x64 OS, now unable to create a basic task from Task Scheduler.
Typed all args, click the Finish button in the last step, an error:
"Transaction support within the specified file system resource manager is not started or was shut down due to an error".
I have fixed it base on the URL below, but not luck. You cannot change the settings for a file backup operation or use Windows Task Scheduler to change the defrag schedule in Windows Vista. How to fix it.
I have HP pavilion G6 laptop running windows 8.1. Found under c:windows emp a folder with a very long alphanumeric "name". On opening this appears to be an OS installation i.e. it has the following files included:
Program Files Program Files (x86) Program data Sources Users Windows
Being in the temp folder I presume can be deleted. However I cannot delete this folder. I get the message that says I require permission from the trusted installer (??) to make changes to this folder.
I had been using windows 8 and everything was fine till accidentally it downloaded windows 8.1 which i did not like ... so when it was saying to me that do you want to install windows 8.1 after downloading it , i said NO . But after that , all i have is a black screen. No matter if i swich it off through the switch butto in the laptop , it stills appears as black screen. Seems like the windows 8 has been uninstalled due to the download of windows 8.1 .
I was writing an email and randomly my fairly new and perfectly working laptop kept freezing and showing Disk 100% in Task Manager so I restarted. After that my laptop is stuck on "automatic repair mode" whenever I power on and none of the options work. I have the options to "Continue to win 8" "use a device" "troubleshoot" or "turn off my pc" NONE of these options are working! If I click anything it just freezes.
How can I recover some important files I had on my desktop? I didn't have any partitions! I'm not able to boot with Ubuntu, win 7, or norton ghost DVDs. I even set the DVD drive to boot first in BIOS.
I am trying to run sfc /scannow to try and fix my boot problem but I keep getting "windows resource protection could not start the repair service"
I have found a few threads that mention this but they go off on a tangent and do not deal with what I am facing.
I have the original Windows 8 CD but it has never managed to fix a thing for me, it just says it cannot! I really cannot to a clean install as all of my work files are on there!
I accidentally deleted the EFI partition, required to boot into my Win 8.1 installation - unbeknownst to me that EFI partition was on a different disk to where my Windows is located. To complicate matters the Windows install is on a RAID0 array.
Windows repair using the original install media didn't work.
EasyRE didn't detect the RAID0 drive.I saw various instructions on how to reconstruct the EFI partition, but they all assumed that the EFI partition is still there, which in my case it isn't.how I can get my data off that drive and re-install Windows?
