Setup Installation :: Linux Install Failed - Windows 8 Pro Not Booting

Feb 8, 2013

I have upgraded my windows 7 ultimate to windows 8 pro a month ago and activated accordingly.

3 Days ago I tried to install Linux OS on XP partition ( earlier I had a XP+ Windows 7 dual boot and I upgraded windows 7 to Windows 8 Pro).

Unfortunately installation of linux failed and Windows 8 Pro is not booting now

How can I restore/re install windows 8 pro??

I tried by inserting repair DVD , but getting message of " repair could not possible".

Actually windows 8 Pro partition is not formatted, only the partition of XP got formatted ( earlier I had a XP+ Windows 7 dual boot and I upgraded on windows 7) .

Right now PC showing some message regarding Intel/processor/..etc.. on a black screen.

Actually I am least bothered about my personal files.

My ultimate concern is regarding activation of windows 8 pro with same product key.

Is there could be any problem with activation of windows 8 PRO?? and what procedure I have to follow?

Debugging :: Windows 8.1 BSOD Fresh Install - Intel Driver Gets Failed

Oct 23, 2013

Issue solved as of Intel HD Graphics Driver 10.18.10.3345

I get a BSOD with message DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (igdkmd64.sys) shortly after launching any game. The driver is linked to Intel's Integrated Graphics which I have updated with 'Windows 8.1 Ready' drivers. My laptop has a Nvidia dedicated GPU which is what I set games to run with, so I'm not sure why Intel's drivers are failing since using a fresh 8.1 install I have been receiving low memory error messages whilst playing games despite having 16GB of RAM.

Dell :: Windows 8.1 64 Bit Install Failed On Latitude E6510 - Laptop Restarts Automatically

Aug 17, 2014

I failed several times at installing Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bit on my Latitude E6510 (from July 2010). Windows 7 Pro 32 bit was pre-installed when I bought the laptop. As I recently upgraded the RAM from 3 to 8 GB, I would like to use a 64 bit system now.I tried to boot from the installation DVD and the windows flag appears. After several seconds, a message on a blue background pops up: "Your PC ran into a problem. We are collecting some information and then we will restart it for you." That is the message, as fas as I can remember. It is only shown for one second and then the laptop reboots automatically. I have got no chance to get into an installation menu. I already tried a BIOS update from A03 to the most recent version A16 with no success. Boot mode is set to legacy at the moment, I also tried UEFI temporarily, with no change...

Upgrade To 8.1 - Download Failed And Cannot Install

May 7, 2014

I got this Gateway this last year, and in the "store" it says to upgrade to 8.1, and I have tried and tried and it says that the download has failed, and cannot install. I have called microsoft support, and was on the phone with them for a couple of hours, and he escalated support to the engineers, they also called, and I allowed them remote access, to come to the conclusion, that my connection is too slow to upgrade to 8.1. So, I went to an open network and tried it, to no avail.

No WiFi Recognized (disappeared After Failed Install)

Feb 13, 2014

I have an Alienware 18. Today tried updated to windows 8.1, it failed on the first try, stopping at 83% after rebooting and almost finishing the installation. I retried installing, it did the same thing, however, this time (i accepted my defeat) when signing back in, my wifi was not recognized. It won't recognize any networks (mine nor other neighbors).

It did not do this on the first failed installation. Also, I have tried re-installing old drivers (the old broadcam one), I have tried re-booting my computer, I have tried executing certain files in the command prompt(from something I read I do not completely remember).

Could it possibly be an MSI file missing? But this is really aggravating as I have a very nice new computer and windows has screwed up my wifi recognition within it. I also have tried updating drivers from the drivers website, etc.

Windows 8.1 Pro Failed To Boot

Oct 29, 2013

I have a 'HP Envy m6-1158ca Notebook PC' running Windows 8 Pro and everything was good until I upgraded to Windows 8.1 Pro.

Immediately after that, it failed to recognize my second monitor (HP Pavilion 23fi 23-inch Diagonal IPS LED Backlit Monitor). I restarted several times assuming OS should recognize that. Device Manager did not show any driver for that new monitor.

Did a hardware troubleshooting and it found some errors. I rebooted the PC and now NOTHING SHOWS UP IN THE SCREEN. JUST A BLANK SCREEN!

After spending hours, I could not do anything. Finally with the support of HP customer service, I was able to access HP recovery mode (F11) and went back to default OS (Windows 8). Lost my data (was not able to backup a lot) and now having all other issues! By the way, F8 or Shift+F8 did not boot in safe mode.

Now every time I restart, it takes forever and randomly removes different drivers (audio etc.)! I now have two OS (Windows 8 and a recovery OS) and don't know how to remove that!

My question is what could happen when I upgraded to Windows 8.1 Pro? Everything was great before that upgrade.

Windows 8 Refresh Failed

Mar 25, 2013

I was getting repeated blue screens of death. My laptop would crash and then restart only to crash again within 2 minutes, this just kept happening. So I figured I would just factory reset my laptop because it should have a recovery image on it since there is no optical drive. The factory reset failed at 64%, so I did it again and it failed in the exact spot again. Now the computer won't boot up. It says automatic repair which ends up failing and it gives me 2 options to either shut down or go through the advanced options. Is there anyway I can download windows 8 onto an external drive and install it like that? I have no clue what to do at this moment.

Updates :: Windows 8 Reactivation Failed

Oct 26, 2013

I had windows 8 pro+wmc installed in my Lenovo laptop (actually an upgrade from windows 7 OEM, upgraded to windows 8 by Lenovo maintenance team when there was some trouble with the hdd!); later I got it activated successfully (phone activation); I have the activation detailes and also copied the sacrosanct windows/system32/spp/store folder for future reactivation.

This laptop had winxp and Linux installed as first and second partitions and the third partition was the windows8; the boot manager was grub; yesterday I found that the freeupdate for windows 8.1 is now back in the store; so I thought of increasing the size and backing up the existing windows8 image in case of any problem; so I deleted the Linux snd xp partitions totally and edited the bcd (using bootice) so that the machine boots correctly; so now the first partition is a large data partition where I intended to copy the windows 8 which is now in partition 2;

When I rebooted the machine today, I got the activation error message! since I have the product key, product id and also the activation code, I thought I can copy the store folder or worst come, I can redo the phone activation; I first copied the store folder as generally suggested by the "activation backup procedure; ' when I restarted the machine, it was a no-go as the activation error is persisting;

I attempted phone activation, the key was first accepted and when the product id (the nine fields) was generated, I found it was different from the one I have copied earlier; still I entered all the fields properly and then after playing music for sometime before generating the activation code, the message came "your request cannot be processed now"; I again tried after an hour I got the message saying the key is blocked!

How I get back the activation?

Windows Not Booting - Failed To Load Media

Jul 19, 2014

All of a sudden, after installing some software updates, Ubuntu tells me to restart. I restart, load Ubuntu perfectly, then decide I want to use Windows to play a game. Restart, select Windows partition in Grub. The Toshiba logo comes up, as usual, but it doesn't boot into Windows. The scrolling wheel just keeps turning. I go to BIOS, and try enabling secure boot, to see if I can boot Windows like that. Same problem. Go to BIOS a second time, change the boot type to CSM instead of UEFI, to see if that will work. It comes up as a black screen "Failed to load media". I switch it back to UEFI and disable Secure Boot. Now all of a sudden, Grub doesn't come up, it just goes straight to loading Windows, but same problem. I ran Boot Repair from a live USB, didn't work.

I am able to use Ubuntu now, but only by pressing F12 and selecting it. Windows still won't boot. I made a recovery USB, and I tried to refresh my pc but it said drive was locked. I don't know what to do.

Here's my Boot Info: Ubuntu Pastebin

I have a Toshiba Satellite.

Setup Installation :: Windows Upgrade To 8.1 Failed

Jan 24, 2014

when the windows 8.1 upgrade came out I updated to it without any problems but a few weeks ago a driver update showed up in windows update thingy. I decided to update it but it went horribly wrong my screen went black and stayed black for a hour, that's when I decided to restart my computer after the logo I just got a black screen with a flashing mouse. I made a recovery stick with my sisters windows 8.1 laptop and renewed my windows to 8. I wanted to upgrade to windows 8.1 again but it didn't work after it rebooted it just went to windows 8 again and gave me an error message that said that it couldn't update to windows 8.1. I searched on Google for a few hour and what I got was that I need to update my video drivers. I tried the default drivers I got (v8.9) it didn't work I tried the newest beta one (v13.11) didn't work either. And because my laptop manufacturer is Toshiba i cant update to the latest release of catalyst control center so i have to use the old version of Toshiba or the beta version. Both didn't work BUT before the driver incident I successfully updated to windows 8.1 with v13.11 beta however now it doesn't want to work anymore.

Setup Installation :: After Windows 8.1 Update - Failed To Load

Apr 17, 2014

After Windows 8.1 downloaded and installed an update and also SQL Server 2012 SP1, I restarted it and then it no longer booted. The BIOS splash screen would pop up, then the screen went black and nothing else happened. Even the hard drive activity stopped.

I booted from the Windows 8 DVD and chose Troubleshooting and tried Automatic Repair and System Restore, neither of which worked. I then chose Refresh Your PC. However, it then said the drive was locked and I should unlock it before continuing. I used Diskpart to clear the attributes of the volume but that didn't work.

In the end, I did a reinstall without formatting the disk. Once I booted it up properly, I had a look in the Windows.old folder and all of my documents, pictures and other work are missing.

Firstly, is there any way I can roll back to the original install so I don't have to spend a full day installing everything again, and if not, how do I recover all my files?

Hardware Drivers :: Y410p Running Windows 8.1 - How To Tell HDD Has Failed

Apr 5, 2014

I am using Y410p, running Windows 8.1. I was downloading files using P2P, then I get some error related to disk.

But my whole system works perfectly, no affection on the performance. So, I decide to reboot. Here, the problem comes.

First, I got the 'Automatic Repair' during boot, then it reboots. This time, with BSOD stating UNMOUNTABLE BOOT VOLUME. Then it reboots again. Just black screen. nothing more.

what I do;
1. shut down
2. edit BIOS to boot using 'Legacy'
3. I boot using Windows 7 USB
4. I choose 'Custom Install'
5. I formatted the 'D' drive
6. reboot
7. manage to boot into Windows 8.1

I tried to re-do these steps, no avail, stuck at 'Setup is starting' screen (waiting for 2 hours and nothing happens)

I tried using the OneKey Recovery, no avail. The screen just turn black and nothing happens.

So,
- How do I manage this? (I really hope that no disk formatting will be involved).
- What is actually happening to my laptop? impending disk failure?
- If this is benign, it is preventable?

Windows Store Failed To Sync Machine Licenses

Dec 30, 2013

Event ID: 512
Task Category: None
Level: Error
Description:
Windows Store failed to sync machine licenses. Result code 0x80070002

The above is last error that I still have in Event Log. My understanding is that I should sing in with Microsoft store to get rid of this error.

And that is the thing: I am not willing to sign. I never bought anything from MS App Store (which I disabled). So how can I stop this annoying attempts of licenses syncing?

I did some extensive search but could not find any solution to the problem except signing with App Store.

Maintenance :: Windows 8.1 System Image Backup Failed

Oct 26, 2013

After upgrading to Windows 8.1, System Image Backup failed resulting in the following message:

"The backup failed. There is not enough space to create the volume shadow copy on the storage location. - (0x80780119)"

However, there was enough free space in the external hard disk: 762.82 GB.

Windows Disk Management, and other tools, provided the following information about the partition structure of Disk 0 (238.35 GB):

Type File System Capacity Free Space Recovery NTFS 499 MB 499 MB
EFI System Partition FAT32 300 MB 300 MB Microsoft Reserved Partition Other 128 MB

I am suspicious about having two 350 MB recovery partitions.

Accounts :: Windows 8 PC - User Profile Service Failed Sign In

Apr 28, 2013

The User Profile Service service failed the sign-in. User profile cannot be loaded. (Window 8)

Today when I tried to use my laptop, I got an error when attempting to log on with my profile. It states:

"The User Profile Service service failed the sign-in. User profile cannot be loaded."

I am using a different PC right now, of course. I had Googled the error, but none of the solutions (thus far) will work in my predicament. It is a Windows 8 PC, so I cannot access the system BIOS in order to perform a system restore, cause unfortunately, it goes straight to the log on screen(Which is become SOLID BLANK COLOR). I don't have a second profile on the system, either. I can't find any way to access the BIOS, Settings, Admin. Profile, or anything.

(SOLID BLANK COLOR) the back ground image for the log in screen is a solid color and not an actual image, anymore.

I can't access the start menu to open the CMD, because I cannot log into my profile and there is no other profile on the PC, besides Administrator ... Which is, unfortunately, hidden. I cannot make it visible, because I'd have to log in to accomplish such a task ...

The problem is not that I am incompetent and cannot conjure a new profile or complete simple tasks on a computer. My predicament seems to be that I cannot access anything. I need to log onto my profile in order to reach the CMD, or any other settings for that matter. Unless there's some, very well hidden, way to run CMD from the log in screen. I know that there is a minuscule detail that I am overlooking, but I cannot find it.

If there's any way to access CMD, BIOS, or anything at the log in screen.

When I opened mu laptop (I'm using ASUS) = Its going STRAIGHT to the BLANK SOLID Screen and There's that. Nothing.... I cannot find anyway how to log in using safe mode and try anyway boot using f1 or anything....

IMPORTANT Problem: didnt's have a cd Windows 8, just found out this problem, didnt even made another account... and other PC is using win7...

Hardware Drivers :: Windows 8 - Test Page Failed To Print?

Sep 24, 2013

I have had Win 8 Pro up and running for about a month and I am having a continuing printing problem. I have 2 printers that I am trying to print to. An HP 4250 and a Ricoh C821DN. Both are on the network and I access them through the local IP address. They both installed fine, but half the time I cannot print to them. When I print, the print command finishes, but nothing prints and nothing is in the que.

I try printing a test page and I get an error box saying that "Test Page Failed to Print". Running through the troubleshooter only makes the printer the default printer and that has no effect. I can see the printer through my browser by typing in the IP address and everything is fine. I also have my laptop running windows 7 right next to me on the network and it prints to both printers just fine.

Sometimes Win 8 will print and sometimes it wont, often for hours at a time.

Maintenance :: Creating Windows 8 System Image - Backup Failed

Jun 6, 2013

I started to use the "Create System Image" of the "Windows 7 File Recovery" on my Windows 8 laptop. But after the screen which flashes the total size that would be required, when I ask it to start the process expecting it to prompt me for the 1st DVD, it flashes the message, - "The back-up failed. The system is not ready. (0x80070015) " . I am trying this on an out-of-the-box laptop with pre-installed Windows 8. Also tried it by disabling the anti-virus, but to no avail.

Then I tried to start the process with a 4.7 GB blank DVD already in place. Then it flashed the message "Insert a blank media bigger than 1 GB". Since I expected it take anywhere between 3-8 DVDs, I kept about 9 DVDs ready. I also inserted a USB pen-drive of 16 GB and tried to create the system image. Again it flashed the same message of insert a blank media greater than 1 GB in F: (same drive as USB) -??????? I mean the USB is already in place and has been assigned the drive letter as F:. How can I insert a blank media there ??

I am using Windows 8 Single Language. I was able create a repair disc without issues, though.

Setup Installation :: Reloading Windows 8 Or 8.1 With Failed Hard Drive

Jul 2, 2014

Reloading windows 8 or 8.1 on a system that the product key is embedded in the Bios.

Scenario only concerning windows 8 or 8.1 any version, also data recover is not a concern: Systems are coming in that are built by a manufacturer (Dell, Toshiba, HP, Compaq, Emachine ect.) the system(s) are out of warranty, They are either in a boot loop, blue screening when loading windows or the hard drive has crashed and isn't loading windows at all. The customers never created recovery disks, nor can we due to windows not loading. We can not get to advanced mode and even if and when we can, creating recovery media is not available.

So let us be clear: We have a system that had windows 8 or 8.1 preinstalled by manufacturer, it was used for multiple months, no recovery media create, now the operating system is not loading, recovery partition corrupt or not accessible, refresh not available, windows product key is embedded in the Bios and is out of warranty.

What we have tried: System with failed hard drive with windows 8 sticker on it. Ran software that extracts product key from BIOS, Inserted an OEM disk for windows 8 and 8.1 when asked to input key, we used the key that was extracted, the installation tells us that the product key is not a OEM key. We do not have a skip button to continue? How in the world can we reload windows 8 or 8.1 on these systems? We have gone through all of the BIOS settings and have tried everything we can think of. If the product key for windows 8 or 8.1 is embedded in the BIOS what do we need to do to make the installation find the key and use it to continue the installation and activate.

From what we are seeing we are not the only one(s) asking this question, the problem is that the reply(s) are: use system refresh, use recovery partition, use recovery media? We understand the reasoning behind having the product key embedded but it shouldn't be this hard to use what the system already has?
