Is it possible to mirror the C drive? I have an external HD I want to use and I've created an NTFS partiton on the external drive but when I right click on the C drive or the partition on the external HD it doesn't give me the option to Add Mirror. I'm running 8.1 Pro.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI want to be able to screen mirror from my W.81 desktop wired to my TV thru Xbox 360 and Roku 3 without having to buy yet another device (Miracast) to do so. I know this can be done via Devices/Play/Xbox/IE App but the problem is that most content won't play properly with the IE App-IE browser yes but not the App for some reason. This same content will play on Chrome but I can't screen mirror with Xbox with Chrome. I really want to be able to do this without spending more money.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been using Syncback SE Free for a long time now with Win7. It works well. I like the mirror function and the ability for syncback to detect small changes and allows you to view different files. When I use the mirror function in syncback, it scans the drive/folder and only copy/delete the differences leaving the rest of the files intact.
I have one main PC as my work pc, and I rotate between 2 different PC's (win 7 pro laptop and win 8 pro desktop). So I like all files on each pc to be current. Think of it as dropbox but offline with tons of data. Currently I have an external hd which I use as an intermediary between the "current" pc and the "older" pc.
After I upgraded to win 8 pro, I noticed that I can do a complete backup with syncback, but I cannot use the mirror function. Syncback does not work in deleting files either from source or target hard disk. It can detect the file changes, but unless I delete the file at the target drive, it will not copy to the target drive.
Any mirroring software which can replace syncback free which works for windows 8 pro desktop and my windows 7 pro laptop? I have tried contacting the people behind syncback (2brightsparks), and they have a knowledge based which does not tell much. It seems that windows is getting stingy with the read/write options. Following the KB discussion on syncback yields nothing in fact it is too convoluted.
I don't mind if it is a network/ethernet solution (not online storage like dropbox-but using ethernet wires) or my solution which is using an external hd as long as all my work computers are "current".
I'm booting off my SSD which is drive C: and I have games and programs on an extra hard drive which was origanally drive H: but after a restart it switched to I: and when I go into Disk Management to change it Drive H: isn't there.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a 2TB Western Digital My Book Essentials, it's filled with tons of old photos, movies, docs, games, and I'm scared to think of what else. The SATA to USB connector broke on it, so I took the drive apart and put it inside my computer. I opened up device manager because it wasn't showing up automatically and the 2TB is showing up as unallocated, I'm freaking out now because I'm scared the data was somehow deleted.What do I do?
edit: I realize also this isn't directly related to Windows 8 (besides the fact it's the OS I'm on), but I don't know where else to post it. I'd also like to say that I had a really deep feeling the drive was going to break continually for about two weeks before it happened, so if you have a similar feeling about something, don't ignore it!
When I go to Computer Management my main (OS) drive shows as "Disk 1" and my 2nd internal data drive shows as "Disk 0". Should I switch the SATA cables so that the main drive will show as "Disk 0 and the 2nd internal drive as "Disk 1"?

I just want to transfer all the data from my old computer. This was pretty much all in the folder c:>Users>Myname, but when I try to transfer it all into the same folder on the new computer, obviously with 100gb there is not enough space.

When I launch Macrium, for some reason my SSD is now GPT 1 and the second drive is now GPT 2. This is confusing because I'm used to imaging the top line of partitions which is usually my OS. Now that the GPT numbers are reversed, I have to be careful when doing my backups. How to change this assignment so that the SSD will be GPT1 again?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm in the process of moving to an SSD and need to create a backup drive in order to repair the BIOS after transferring everything. However, when I try to create one - the create a recovery drive program won't recognize the flash drive I have connected as a flash drive.
I first tried with a SanDisk Cruzer which apparently had a quirk in that it shows up as a hard drive instead of removable flash drive. That seems to be well documented on forums all over the place and there is no fix.
So, I purchased a cheap 8 GB stick (no brand) and Windows (I'm running 8.1 x64) recognizes it as a removable disk. However, the create a backup utility still won't recognize it. I've found some random fixes that have worked for some (such as plugging it into a different USB port) but nothing has worked for me so far. I've tried doing it with the "copy the recovery partition" option both checked and unchecked.
If there's no solution to this wonderful "quirk" of Windows, then is there something else I can do to repair BIOS? Seems like there's not a fix to my problem out there...
EDIT So as of right now, I tried using HPs recovery software which seems to do the same thing as copying over your entire recovery partition. That didn't work either. However..when I had both USB sticks plugged in the Windows supplied utility recognized the SanDisk Cruzer when I checked the "copy the partition" thing

pc bought in 2013 with windows 8 bundled (so no installation DVDs, no activation key communicated).
upgraded to windows 8.1 in 2013.
I made a recovery USB (system image) on 1st April 2014.
If I need to boot on this USB, my PC will be again exactly as it was on 1st April 2014?
I know there is good software out there to clone/image my hard drive and restore it to a new SSD drive. I'm just wondering though, since my laptop is brand new, I made a full recovery to a USB drive and included the OEM recovery partition.
Couldn't I just swap out the old HDD with the new SSD and boot with the recovery stick and do a full recovery back to the new SSD?
Also, however I do this, recover or image backup/restore, do I need to do some type of SSD alignment? I can't find a clear answer on that.
I just purchased an Asus R510CC notebook with windows 8 and I bought a SSD drive to replace the current one.
I used Recovery Drive in Windows to create an USB boot drive with the recovery partition on it. I then installed the SSD and booted from the USB. When I get to the option to reset my computer I encounter an error with the following message: "Unable to reset PC. A required drive partition is missing". I already did a bit of research and BIOS tweaking but I can't install Windows onto my SSD.
I just upgraded to 8.1 update 1 officially via Technet. As expected, SkyDrive has been renamed to OneDrive. However, if I look at my OneDrive folders via Properties | Location it still points to a SkyDrive folder. Even software that I use to store backups on my OneDrive folder still point to SkyDrive even though there is no folder with that name. If I try to change it to OneDrive I get folder not found.

How is this possible unless my del laptop has somehow retained my old image? My other thought was that after reinstallation I signed back into my Microsoft account and this has somehow recognised my old desktop? If the latter is so then why retain just the desktop image and no other images?
View 5 Replies View RelatedIs there any way to make Windows 8 apps that rely on libraries (music, pics, vids) work with content stored on a separate physical drive? I NEVER use the libraries contained in the OS's user profiles. I always keep all data content on a separate physical HDD.
I tried to add my Photos library on my data HDD to my Pictures library, then went to the Photos app, but it only showed blank boxes for the various folders. It didn't show any pics, except for one single pic in one single folder in that whole library.
What do I need to do?
I have three hard drives. One is a Kingston Hyperx SSD 120GB. The other two are for internal storage and are WD 500GB Blacks. I recently upgraded my computer. My new mother board is the ASUS M5A99X. I installed Windows 8 just fine back in Dec 2012 and it worked up until April-Mayish. My USB Hub was causing my computer to halt before POST. After exchanging it with a new hub, I was able to boot just fine.
Later that same day, I cleaned out the dust in my computer and added another harddrive. I wasn't able to boot Windows 8. It would just stop with a blinking cursor right before it should show the four blue panes. I went into BIOS and it didn't have my SSD listed. I accidentally unplugged the SATA cable for my SSD and forgot to plug it back in. After I plugged it back in I set the boot priority back to my SSD first.
I still couldn't boot so inserted my Windows CD to reformat. After it says "Press any key to boot from CD...." I didn't press anything and it loaded into Windows just fine. I loaded Windows this way for a while until I was able to troubleshoot it. After reformatting, I get "Please select proper boot device.." message. If I put the CD in, that goes away and it loads into windows after saying "Press any key to boot from the CD..." Here's what I've done to troubleshoot so far:
1. Set SSD to first in boot priority order in BIOS. Forced boot to my SSD in BIOS. Changed SATA from AHCI to RAID (lol) to IDE.
I've used bootrec.exe and tried
bootrec /RebuildBcdbootrec /fixMbrbootrec /fixboot
This still didn't resolve my issue.
2. I flashed my BIOS to 1708 because it was going to fix an issue I had with a USB device.
3. I reformatted Windows 8 with all drives unplugged except my SSD.
4. I've unplugged all SATA devices except my harddrive and tried to boot.
5. I've set the 2nd partition (90+GB) to active partition on my SSD.
My next step is to RMA the motherboard.
EaseusToDo backup gives me the following error. I use security tab to allow access to everyone and still get this error. Can I run the backup in the built in admin account? I have tried system backup and Disk and Partition backup and get the same error message. This is an hd in an enclosure with a sata connection.

View 9 Replies View RelatedMy c drive is starting to fill up, so I decided to move and reorganize some "stuff". Everything went fine and I have a full backup on an external 3TB drive. I also have two separate 2 TB external drives and all is fine.
My last task, before moving/deleting all my pictures and videos (30.000 in total) off my c drive, was to format all my other internal drives and/or remove/upgrade them to bigger ones and this is where I ran into a problem.
I have win 8.1 with all service updates as of today. My computer specs are all in my info.
I want to remove the drive G: and replace it with a 2TB one, I deleted everything from the old drive, but when I removed it, I got a boot error.
What I found was, that the hidden files in the picture bellow are still on it and needed to boot.
How can I move these files onto my C: drive?
I found one tip, to use this command: bcdboot c:windows /s c: but it didn't change the fact that the computer doesn't boot without the G: drive attached.

So recently had my old Windows 7 desktop crash on me. Got a new Windows 8 desktop and since then have gotten an external enclosure to try and scrap the files off of the old hard drive, but when trying to connect the Drive into the new computer I get this issue >>

That's my partition list, and I want to extend Unallocated drive (that I recently used for Ubuntu) to drive C or D, but I can't do that because I can't click "Extend Volume" at drive D.

I am using Windows 8 x64. I have a few software applications and one or two IDE's installed in drive C(system drive where my Windows is installed). Now my C partition is of 68 GB now suddenly I am seeing that almost all the space in drive C has ben used up and I am only left with ~6 GB of free space. Now when I am in drive C and select all the files and folders and check what is the space that it all takes up, the size returned is only 43.3 GB(check the attachment sc_shot1). But when I view C drive from MyComputer I only get ~6GB of free space shown to me(check the attachment sc_shot2). So if all the files and folders in C only take up 43.3 GB where is the rest of the 68.3 - 43.3 =25 GB. Am I being attacked by a virus or worm ?? I am using a licensed copy of QuickHeal Internet Security 2013 and I have scanned drive C with it, it reports no infections. I have also tried using the "cleanmgr" utility and clear up some space by deleting temporary files, but that at max gives me back ~1GB of free space.
