Will Different USB Hosts Work With Keyboard?
Mar 26, 2013My brother lost his keyboard USB connector (it's wireless). If I were to go out and buy another one USB connector for the exact same keyboard, would it work?

View 8 RepliesI'm running Windows 8.1, and never had problems with my wireless mouse ad keyboard. But my keyboard has a real problem, and I tried with a normal PS2 keyoard. But it wasn't recognized. I read, that when we use a USB mouse or keyboard, the PS2 is disabled. I tried the following:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHIE/CurrentControlSet/i8042prt and edited the value of "START" from 3 to 1.
But it didn't work. Is there another way to enable PS2 keyboards again?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have Windows 8.1 Pro and a Logitech K800 Keyboard (wireless/illuminated) and I'm continuing to be frustrated by the fact that the Mute button does not work. Oddly enough, I had the same problem with a previous Windows 8.0 Pro install -- it went away when I upgraded to Windows 8.1. But the problem started again shortly afterward (maybe a week or two). I have the latest drivers and apps installed from Logitech.
After a reboot, the first time I hit the Mute key momentarily mutes the sound but then the sound returns (maybe after 1 second). After that, hitting the Mute key has no effect at all.
I have searched Google for a solution but nothing matches my problem. Oddly there are reports of all volume-related keys not working, but the Volume up and Volume down keys still work for me.
ive been having this for ages on my windows 8 acer laptop, randomly my keyboard doesnt work anymore (happend 5months ago) ive been using desktop keyboard since
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen Windows 8.1 was released, I upgraded my current Windows 8 installation. Overall, it has been a great experience. However, I've run into a couple of strange problems that I have never had before.
The first problem is, whenever I boot into Windows 8.1, my USB devices don't work right away (keyboard and wireless mouse). It doesn't matter if I restart my computer or have just turned it on. In order to get the keyboard to respond, I have to unplug and plug back in the cord. It's very annoying to have to do this every time I boot Windows.
The second problem is, while Windows is logging in, I get a UAC prompt. The UAC prompt says "Service Control Manager Configuration Tool". This prompt also happens every single time I log on, which is also very annoying.
I have checked my startup programs and have found nothing obvious that could solve these problems, but maybe I'm missing something.
Have these problems happened before? I really would prefer not to do a clean install since everything else is working perfectly and it's not slow at all.
1. Keys do not work in Any of the Internet Browsers. Even the on-screen keyboard does not work.
2. Every time I double click a file, A pop-up "Do you want xyz to make changes to the computer ?" is welcoming me!
3, I click on any of the icons in the task-bar and a new window is opening. For example, If I click on the firefox icon pinned at the bottom, Every instance I click it, a new window is opening
4. I am not able to open a folder by double click. I can only open it by right click and then Open
5. None of the keys and keyboard shorcuts seem to work. But that is not the problem with keyboard because, I am able to type words in Wordpad and Notepad
I formatted my Windows 8 twice and still these problems are there. Even if I restart it, things work fine for 5 min and then the problem would be back.
Just updated from windows 7 to 8, on a Mac using bootcamp. Now my logitech wireless keyboard won't work - windows seems to recognize it but I can't type anything. My wireless mouse is being recognized and works fine. Can't find any updates or fixes on any site, including logitech.

I plugged USB mouse and keyboard and it works just fine. I went to device manager and besides Standart PS/2 keyboard and mouse icons there was orange triangle meaning that i have problem with drivers. I searched drivers online, but unsuccsessily.. After few hours of trying to fix it, my Standart PS/2 Keyboard turned into Unknown device and now im completely lost. Adding photo of device manager

Originally came with windows vista 32-bit, so recently I upgraded to windows 8.1 32 bit after about a month the track pad and keyboard BOTH came un-responsive, and in the device manager, it's coming up with a "COPROCESSOR" error.
I'm using windows 8 pro which I upgraded from windows 7 home premium in january. After the upgrade, my e key stopped working. After another few months, more keys stopped working and now, no keys are working. What do I do?

Above the F1-F4 keys i have three buttons to mute, increase and decrease the volume which do not work. The keyboard shortcut's for muting, decreasing and increasing volume do not work either (Fn+F10-F12) but the shortcut for decreasing brightness and turning the screen off works (Fn+F5-F7) If there is any way to get this working again.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to edit my host file, but the system is telling me that I need to be an administrator, when I am the administrator. I made an attachment in word with screen shot for you to see.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI want to edit the hosts file for my windows8, but the problem is it will not allow me to save the changes,it prompts me to "you have no rights, please log on to admistrator....etc".
View 2 Replies View RelatedFirst, I tried to edit the 'hosts' file but wasn't let save the change as having no permission. I'm the only user and administrator. I took over ownership and gave full rights to myself, rebooted, still the same.
Second, I tried to run notepad as administrator for the same reason. It wouldn't open. Then, I wanted to start it from an elevated command prompt, but cmd didn't start as admin either. This, like notepad, opened nicely as 'normal', neither as admin.
I run Windows 8 Enterprise 64 bit.
I am getting error "Save failed - Please check if this file is opened in another program" when trying to edit the hosts file in Notepad++. This has only started happening after a fresh installation of Windows 8 on a new computer. My previous computer with Windows 8.1 was able to do it correctly without any errors. I am using only one account on both computers, but for some reason on the new computer, the UAC keeps getting in the way. I have lowered the UAC warnings all the way down but that hasn't worked. Is there another setting I'm missing?
Note that I don't want to right-click Notepad++ and choose "Run as administrator" every time I want to edit a system file. I see that as a waste of time and an unnecessary step since I am already using an administrator account. I didn't have to do that on the old computer.
Windows update has been really messing with my pc lately. I ran update and when it installed the updates my integrated mouse ended up not working. I rolled back update and installed the updates one by one and the one I ended up not installing was the camera codec pack. Now the problem I am having is that my touchscreen won't work. If I talk to HP support they do the most basic thing they can and then when they can't fix it they tell me that I have to ship it to them because hardware is broken.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have 3 user accounts.
1. Administrator
2. initial user
3. new user
So the initial user is the one you are forced to create when first setting up Windows 8.1. It's a local user meaning that I set it up without signing into a MSA.
In both the Administrator and the initial user, all the WinRT apps/tiles work. Like the weather will show up and everything.
Whether I change the Initial User to Standard or Administrator, everything still works fine. Of course, the Administrator can't open WinRT apps which is standard and normal. And the initial user can't use apps without signing into MSA. But it all still works perfectly fine.
The problem is with the new user. The new user is meant to be in Administrator mode because it's my main account. But whether I set it up as Standard or Administrator, it's the same thing. None of my WinRT apps work.
Even when I sign into my MSA with the new user, it's still the same thing. It synchronizes to my OneDrive online. It recognizes that I'm completely signed in online. Yet it's still the exact same thing with the WinRT apps. None of them work. Even when I try to open up the Windows Store. It just continues to try to open, but doesn't go all the way through. So whether I'm signed into my MSA for the third user or not, it still gives the same problem.
I ran Windows Update, and it worked perfectly. Everything is up to date.
A keyboard icon shows on task bar but I must manually touch. I am referring to an automatic pop up when in a text box (in desktop, not on Metro where it does pop up). In Win 7 the keyboard always pops up but MS changed the setting for Win 8 - I am running Win8 on a Samsing ATIV tablet

View 9 Replies View RelatedI use keyboard shortcuts extensively. Some are application specific, some are system shortcuts. I am finding that Windows 8 shortcuts are overriding shortcuts I use in some applications, and I would like to be able to delete or reassign the system shortcut so I can use it in an application. However, while there is a myriad of posts on different people's ideas of "essential" keyboard shortcuts, I can find no information on how to change shortcuts.

After installing Windows 8 over Windows 7 on a Dell computer all worked well except for the Logitech wireless keyboard. When the shifted number keys were struck they printed an ASCII letter rather than their normal character. I substituted a USB keyboard with the same result. I have found no way to make the shifted number keys work correctly on this computer with Windows 8 installed. After restoring Windows 7, all worked correctly again. Am I alone with this problem? I would like to reinstall Windows 8.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI am unable to get my Windows 8.1 installation to use anything but the US keyboard format, despite the fact that all my keyboard and regional settings are UK.
In particular, I go into the "Keyboard" application in Control Panel, and English (United Kingdom) is listed as the first item.
N.B. English (United States) is listed as the 2nd item in this list, and I can't remove it (I remove it from the list, but it is put back in the list when I restart the keyboard application).
Whatever I do, the keyboard layout remains the same - for example, the " and @ keys are the wrong way round.
I have two keyboards loaded in Windows 8 Pro: US English , and US International. How do I make US International primary? The examples given always list English and Danish for instance, so you can move one up or down. But in my case, I always see one keyboard, even though both are active.
View 8 Replies View RelatedOn smartphones when you place the cursor inside a text box the keyboard pops up automatically but on my Lenovo Yoga in tablet mode this is not the case. I have to tap the tiny little keyboard icon on the bottom taskbar for it to come up.
Is this normal for Win 8.1 machines? It seems a bit weird and certainly counterintuitive.
I restarted my computer because I was getting rid of KasperSky and needed to restart. And all of a sudden, my keyboard isn't working anymore. I changed the batteries so that's not it, also it lights up. I had this vaio tap for over 30 days already and this suddenly happened. Right now I am using a laptop.
