View 9 RepliesToday I started up my laptop to make my homework. So I tried to enter an "a with umlaut"(SHIFT+' then a) but it would not work. So I checked my keyboard input settings and it is looking like in the attachments.
View 1 Replies View Relatedi've been using windows 8.1 for a little time in my new Sony notebook. First, i used windows 8 and had no problems, my keyboard layout was the correct one (Spanish - Latin America, 'cause i'm from Argentina). But after an upgrade to windows 8.1, the default layout was set to Traditional Spanish wich does not suit the layout I see on my keyboard, signs are misplaced. I went to the control panel and under the idioms settings i set Latin American layout to my keyboard, but even with the correct configuration (checked with the layout image that is shown in the configuration menu), signs like ` and @ are still misplaced. What can I do?
View 2 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to switch to a different keyboard language for as long as a key/combo modifier is pressed? I only need like 4 letters from another layout.
You can imagine how often I have to switch back and forth so I'd like a key just like shift, using another character on the same key.
I have the Windows 8 upgrade (previous OS was win7 ultimate). The OS goes very well, so far, just a minor problem...
From time to time I noticed there is installed a US keyboard, I am UK based and any setup keyboard/date etc are in UK format. Also when I installed the windows I selected (autodetected) the UK settings.
Also, I noticed that the US keyboard does not exist on the layouts (I am using Greek and UK), so in order to get rid of this, I have to add and the remove the US keyboard, but after a while re-appears!
I just noticed that my keyboard layout appears to be incorrect, and have been unable to resolve it after some googling around. The keyboard layout of my laptop is the UK English, but even with this setting in the language settings of windows I still am stuck using the US English version, so for example my @ and " are swapped around, and where the pound sign is.
I've tried downloading new language packs, and switching to the US keyboard (no change) and back to UK (still no change).
Does Windows 8 control the layout of the on-screen keyboard of a touchscreen monitor? Or is it the monitor? An online retailer is advertising the monitor as having the QWERTZ layout, but I am used to QWERTY and want to be sure that I can change it.
View 8 Replies View RelatedIf you select a keyboard layout and there's no language pack available you cannot remove that keyboard again.
I made a mistake and got this (Igbo whatever that is)
Now I've got a redundant keyboard entry that I can't get rid of.
(Running Windows 8.1 Enterprise RTM - TechNet x-64). Note you can only add language packs etc for PRO and above versions.
When I power up my HP Envy laptop with Windows 8 I'm asked to "Choose your keyboard layout" every time. Is there a way to stop this happening? Control Panel set for English (US).

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am unable to get my Windows 8.1 installation to use anything but the US keyboard format, despite the fact that all my keyboard and regional settings are UK.
In particular, I go into the "Keyboard" application in Control Panel, and English (United Kingdom) is listed as the first item.
N.B. English (United States) is listed as the 2nd item in this list, and I can't remove it (I remove it from the list, but it is put back in the list when I restart the keyboard application).
Whatever I do, the keyboard layout remains the same - for example, the " and @ keys are the wrong way round.
I have installed Windows 8.1 64 bit on a new motherboard using a Logitech K120 keyboard. After using the system for a few weeks I have decide to put on a better keyboard. After swapping keyboards the system runs fine until I reboot. At that time Windows starts up as if it has never run before giving the "Hi" and "Adding applications" messages and then going to the normal tiles screen but it can find no applications. Rebooting give the same results. If I change the keyboard back and reboot, everything comes up fine.
I have tried 3 different keyboards, 2 different Microsoft and 1 Dell, with the same results. As far as I can tell, Windows 8 only works with the keyboard that was used to install it and can never be changed.
The only software running was Start8 to actually make Windows 8 useful but I removed that and confirm that the problem still existed without it.
i have one laptop and htpc running windows 8.1 and can't figure out how the sync works. Yesterday, i set it all up and and today turned my htpc on to have the same apps and layout. But nothing changed, turned the both pcs on and off and it did change but the other way, htpc to laptop, so got a messy layout.
Deleted all the apps from the start screen and started again but now won't change in neither of them. Just changed the wallpaper many times and sometimes changes but other times it doesn't.
I have an old HP laptop with W8.1 x64 which I have to replace. How can I transfer data to my new Asus (W8.1 x64 too) which has a very different hardware layout ?
I thought of retrieving the old "file history" on to the new rig but I'm afraid it would copy files that would make it unstable to to the hardware differences.
A keyboard icon shows on task bar but I must manually touch. I am referring to an automatic pop up when in a text box (in desktop, not on Metro where it does pop up). In Win 7 the keyboard always pops up but MS changed the setting for Win 8 - I am running Win8 on a Samsing ATIV tablet

View 2 Replies View RelatedI use keyboard shortcuts extensively. Some are application specific, some are system shortcuts. I am finding that Windows 8 shortcuts are overriding shortcuts I use in some applications, and I would like to be able to delete or reassign the system shortcut so I can use it in an application. However, while there is a myriad of posts on different people's ideas of "essential" keyboard shortcuts, I can find no information on how to change shortcuts.

2. Every time I double click a file, A pop-up "Do you want xyz to make changes to the computer ?" is welcoming me!
3. I click on any of the icons in the task-bar and a new window is opening. For example, If I click on the firefox icon pinned at the bottom, Every instance I click it, a new window is opening
4. I am not able to open a folder by double click. I can only open it by right click and then Open
5. None of the keys and keyboard shorcuts seem to work. But that is not the problem with keyboard because, I am able to type words in Wordpad and Notepad
I formatted my Windows 8 twice and still these problems are there.
Even if I restart it, things work fine for 5 min and then the problem would be back.
After installing Windows 8 over Windows 7 on a Dell computer all worked well except for the Logitech wireless keyboard. When the shifted number keys were struck they printed an ASCII letter rather than their normal character. I substituted a USB keyboard with the same result. I have found no way to make the shifted number keys work correctly on this computer with Windows 8 installed. After restoring Windows 7, all worked correctly again. Am I alone with this problem? I would like to reinstall Windows 8.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have two keyboards loaded in Windows 8 Pro: US English , and US International. How do I make US International primary? The examples given always list English and Danish for instance, so you can move one up or down. But in my case, I always see one keyboard, even though both are active.
View 8 Replies View RelatedOn smartphones when you place the cursor inside a text box the keyboard pops up automatically but on my Lenovo Yoga in tablet mode this is not the case. I have to tap the tiny little keyboard icon on the bottom taskbar for it to come up.
Is this normal for Win 8.1 machines? It seems a bit weird and certainly counterintuitive.
I restarted my computer because I was getting rid of KasperSky and needed to restart. And all of a sudden, my keyboard isn't working anymore. I changed the batteries so that's not it, also it lights up. I had this vaio tap for over 30 days already and this suddenly happened. Right now I am using a laptop.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm running Windows 8.1, and never had problems with my wireless mouse ad keyboard. But my keyboard has a real problem, and I tried with a normal PS2 keyoard. But it wasn't recognized. I read, that when we use a USB mouse or keyboard, the PS2 is disabled. I tried the following:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHIE/CurrentControlSet/i8042prt and edited the value of "START" from 3 to 1.
But it didn't work. Is there another way to enable PS2 keyboards again?
I'm using a ASUS Notebook K53E Series laptop computer running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit Service Pack 1... I'm using a HDMI to project onto a HD TV I have a USB keyboard and mouse hooked up, both Logitech... The problem I'm having is, both the mouse and keyboard keep disconnecting on me... The mouse will go first' I'll move it from one USB port to the other, and it will work, but then stop working again... The keyboard will just stop working, even if I move it I can't get it to reconnect... I have to shutdown my computer to get everything to start working again, but it will only last about a half hour before they stop working again after the reboot...
I've went into the device manager, under Universal Serial Bus controllers > Generic USB Hub > properties > Power Management, and unchecked "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power... This does not work... I then uninstalled it, and rebooted my computer, still doesn't work... I then tried to system restore, I couldn't because I had no restore points, I then look if there was any system updates, there was, but minor updates, I updated them anyways, still no go... I'm only having problems with the USB mouse and keyboard... My laptop touch pad and everything else works fine...
sometimes when I type keys on the keyboard applications seem to appear. This happens quite a lot, I keep clicking control button and it eventually gets back to normal.

i recently purchased a Surface Pro 3. I had the option of buying a keyboard cover, but they would only discount it to $20 cheaper, so i declined with the intention of buying one online for a better price. It seems that in Australia, the red keyboard is also not available, which is the one i want. If a foreign keyboard would be compatible?
