View 5 RepliesI'm getting ready to re-install Windows 8 on a laptop. I have a Windows 8 OEM disc that I'd like to slipstream Windows 8.1 Update 1 into so I don't have to spend extra time downloading Windows 8 updates before having to download Windows 8.1 and then all those updates. I'd like to be able to just install Windows 8.1 with all the current updates included.
View 1 Replies View Relatedsometimes when testing new systems I have to install Office 2010 from scratch (I have a VL enterprise version so activation isn't an issue).
However Windows update then every time prompts for about 1.5GB of updates and fixed.
How to "slipstream" these into my office install disk - or at least store these updates manually so I don't have to keep downloading the same stuff over and over again.
My Acer V5-571G has an awesome trackpad, but acer only provides Elantech drivers, which aren't as great.
This, is great: Synaptic Gesture Suite
but it refers you to your manufacturer for drivers.
My model is HP Pavilion Slimline s3760in Desktop PC
HP Pavilion Slimline s3760in Desktop PC Product Specifications -- In product specifications you can notice that my OS was shipped with Windows Vista Home Premium with Windows Media Center (32-bit) with Vista Service Pack 1
In NVidia website it has mentioned that all the oem model should download from manufacture like hp, dell website only.
IF you check driver update for this model for windows vista 32bit you will notice original driver like keyboard, nvidia, etc.

So my queries is that i have recently installed windows 8.1 and i wanted these original files to be installed but dont know which one to pick from vista drivers or windows 7 drivers? but windows 7 drivers are latest when compare with vista. Or should I download nvidia drivers from nvidia website? and also same goes with realtek audio driver from realtek website?
I just upgraded to Windows 8.1 from Windows 7, and I cannot get a wireless connection. I have a Linksys Wireless G Card v4.1, and I've attempted to use multiple different drivers, but none of them work. At one point I was able to get a "Network Controller" to show up, but after rebooting my computer, it went away (and I was unable to get it again). Is it possible to get an internet connection with my card and Windows 8.1? Or will I have to stick with Windows 7?
View 3 Replies View RelatedHow can I find express cache drivers for Windows 8.1 ? I've been searching for long time but cannot find any. I assume it's already installed with Windows or what? I just want to use my SSD(24GB) as an express cache. I have an Ideapad y410p.
Sometimes my SSD disappears like unplugged from the system or shutdown itself, why this is happening?
I'm running a custom build PC on which I clean installed a (legal) copy of Windows 8.1
My system works fine except it can not install drivers for ANYTHING non-standard. Keyboard, mouse, memory sticks, HDDs all work fine, however when I plug in my phone/tablet/camera etc via USB, it fails to install drivers and I can't use my device.
Here's what device manager looks like with my (android) phone plugged in
And when I select Update driver software, I get this error:
I needed to ask as i've come from XP, when i installed 8.1 it installed drivers for my mobo so i had sound/net etc... and for my gpu aswell. Should i install the drivers from the manufacturer? Such as the realtek audio/lan/etc... and also my amd gpu?
If i were to install the Gpu driver would i just download it and install it with microsofts one there? And with the motherboard? Should i leave them there as i have sound/net etc... (haven't tried gaming yet)
I was wondering if there is a way to force Windows 8.1 to use older drivers, for example, force a generic Bluetooth adapter driver to use version 6.2.9200 instead of 6.3.9600.
I am just trying to troubleshoot a problem and was curious, and wanted to try if its possible.
I own a XPS L702X laptop purchased in 2011. Laptop has driver support from Dell for Win 7 and Win 8. But windows 8 drivers aren't working with windows 8.1 and i don't think Dell is in the mood to provide drivers for a laptop which is already 2+ years old.
So i had to collect drivers by myself. I have already got most of the native drivers from Intel/nVidia/Realtek websites. But not able to find the Quickset software. Currently using the one which was released for windows 8, and it gives error when i open the windows mobility center. And after installing, it doesn't remove the "Unknown Device" icon from device manager like it used to do in windows 8 .
Also need "ST Micro Screen Detection Sensor" driver. If i install the old windows 8 driver, it says incompatible with this version of windows.
i am currently using windows 7 .i m planning on installing windows 8.I have a i3 machine with intel DH55PJ board.when i went ti intel website i didn't see any network graphics or audio drivers for windows 8. is their any way i can use windows 7 drivers in windows 8.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am trying to troubleshoot a problem I am having with a non-typical HID device. The device in question is called a NEO2, manufactured by a company called Renaissance Learning. This device is used in schools for students to test 'smartapplets' on. These smartapplets teach things like keyboarding and math, etc. The device looks like a keyboard with 2x8 inch LCD screen on it. Typically you are able to connect this device to a computer and it will transfer the information to an application that can manage it all.
The problem that I am having with it is that when I connect this device to a computer, it should install 2 drivers back to back. This is how it had previously worked on all Windows operating systems in the past. You connect it, it installs a standard HID driver for allowing the device to be used as a secondary keyboard, then another driver to allow the device to connect to the NEO Manager software. Windows 8 will install the HID driver automatically, but not the second driver.
When I view the device in Device Manager, I can see it there with an asterisk by it, as if it knows that drivers were not installed properly. Right click the device, choose to update drivers and choose the search option. It will find the drivers locally (I know this since fiddler did not report any communication http wise) and then install them and everything is fine. So, this is my question. What has changed in Windows 8 that now does not install both drivers automatically as other versions have in the past? The drivers are signed properly, and I see no events in any section of the event viewer that would denote an issue. I also tested turning off the strict driver enforcement or whatever that was called, and it did the same thing. This happens on both the 32 and 64 bit versions of Windows 8. It works on all other versions from Windows XP to Windows 7.
I've tried both with soundblaster sound card and NVidia graphics card. It just don't want to install the 64 bit drivers ...
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm using Windows 8. When I'm trying to update my Qualcomm Atheros AR9287 driver, it just tells me that the newest driver is already installed, which is not true. I downloaded and unpacked the driver, but even if I navigate there, Windows 8 will not recognize that driver and just tell me that the newest is installed, effectivly blocking any driver update.
I tried to delete the old drivers manually from system32, but he still won't recognize the new one. If I deinstall the drivers via manager, the whole adapter disappears; when checking for changed hardware, he will reappear and instantly reinstall the old driver, even if it has been deleted from system32 (no idea where he gets the old file from).
I'm having a problem with system file corruption on two computers with ASUS Sabertooth 990FX Rev 2 motherboards and some resulting issues after upgrading from Windows 8.0 to 8.1. ASUS still doesn't have 8.1 chipset drivers available for their AMD motherboards but they have 8.1 for their Intel boards, which is interesting. I have been told by a third level MS Support person that the corruption is caused by a hardware issue and he refuses to troubleshoot the computer until the corruption is resolved. He said that in the 8.0 to 8.1 upgrade, Microsoft made some significant changes so he thinks that 8.1 chipset drivers should be installed.
Every few days, when I run sfc /scannow, it finds corruption. If sfc can't fix it, then I run the dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth command and eventually it gets fixed. In the meantime, some strange things happen with Window's operation but I don't get BSODs and other major things but the computer can hang for a while.
I have contacted ASUS but I get conflicting information from them. I see that here: ASUS Windows 8.1 - Ready Motherboard : Get you Onboard, that many AMD boards have passed the WHQL test (only very recently--the Intel boards had already passed some time ago) but when you click on any link to an AMD board, there are no 8.1 drivers available, even where it says they have some. I have been told by ASUS's Customer Care Manager that AMD provides the chipset drivers. I have spoken to AMD Support and they say that they do NOT provide motherboard drivers--the motherboard manufacturer does. I then told the ASUS Customer Care Manager this--then he said:
"ASUS would have to work with AMD in the development of such drivers, and since our testing of Windows 8.1 with the current 8 drivers has worked without further issues there is no word of further development of a Windows 8.1 chipset driver set for that motherboard. It isn't deemed necessary as of now. This is also due to the fact that AMD is working with ASUS to develop other products with their FM2+ socket and APU processors such as the board in the link [URL] .....
As far as the appropriate chipset driver for the Crosshair V Formula-Z, it is already available but it the same driver that is used for 8, and the only driver that needs to be updated further after that should be the USB 3.0 driver. The webpage you described is just dated and isn't meant to be used for continued reference. Our product page just hasn't been updated to reflect the information I am providing."
I wonder how much in depth testing ASUS did with the AMD boards which supposedly work fine running Windows 8.1 on a motherboard using 8.0 chipset drivers?
i am a intel hardware user from the beggining, a friend of mine had clean installed windows 8 pro on his PC ( custom-build) which has amd phenom x2 processor, and clocked at 800 Mhz... i don't know either a bit about AMD And neither him, when i had a look at the display adapter in his pc's device manager it was AMD radeon 3000 graphics( wddm versiom).
View 8 Replies View RelatedI downloaded the drivers for windows 7 x64bit for the SD card reader in my system. I have installed Windows 8.1 Pro x64.
I had the same issue with Windows 8 and now that I have settled on 8.1 need to fix my card reader. Funny thing is that the drivers from Microsoft load (2006) and all devices look fine in Device Manager.
Even after installing the link from Acer and even searching around and getting other ones from Lenovo, HP still no go.
I have recently bought a ASUS X550LC Laptop in that. i was trying to install bluetooth drivers but it crashes frequently during the installation. i have tried a lot and i cant able 2 solve the problem.
View 2 Replies View RelatedAm using windows 8 pro with the synaptics drivers on my sony vaio, but they are taking ages to load in whenever I reboot/startup my laptop.
I was wandering if there are any tweaks I can do to make it load into my system tray quicker. I dont have many things loading at startup so I cant see what the problem is. I would like it to load in first rather than last.
Had drive problems with PC so got new SSD drives and a Hybrid drive. All new drives so did tortuous route install win7 - upgrade to win 8.0 all worked then started acting up. My tech support worked on it for 2 days and gave up said I should backup and do a clean install from start. So I did.
Not yet put any backup files on so only operating system and devices (printer, wireless keyboard/mouse, wireless headset and 3webcams ( One Pluscom and two PCline ) checked device manager and found cameras with yellow exclamation mark and checked properties and saw this webcam.JPG . Download, install and do a reboot and see what happens.

I have two wifi adapters i have been trying to get to work consistently with no luck for several days now. One had been working fine for a few weeks, then it stopped, i tried switching, and that one worked for half a day, then it stopped. Once it stops working the connection is 'limited' but works fine on other machines, or it says it is connected in settings but Chrome says it isn't online. So i wanted to try to install a different driver, having read that this can often be the solution.
But in both cases, there is no old driver to roll back to, and when i try to tell Windows to load a driver i've downloaded or have on a disc, it says, no, the one it already has is 'up to date', and it won't do it. Is there some way to dig around in the system to get rid of the driver it claims is better so i can try another one?
I am unsure whether I should enable "Automatically get device drivers, apps, and info for new devices" when installing Windows 8 Pro?
What exactly will it do?
If I enable this, will Windows then automatically install software packages/drivers from the manufacturer, like for example the Logitech Setpoint software for their keyboards and mouse and similar software for other devices? I don't want or need that. Or will it behave like in Windows 7?
On my other PC with Windows 7 I see in Windows Update that there are a couple of optional updates, including that Logitech stuff, as well as some driver for a BenQ monitor I have and also nvidia video drivers. This kind of stuff I don't want or need installed automatically as important updates in Windows Update - so I am worried if enabling this automatic driver stuff in Windows 8 is different than Windows 7? Meaning that it will get installed secretly/automatically?
However, it's fine that Windows finds them so I can manually go and check if I want to install any of it.
The key is that the updates are optional in Windows 7, but I have seen a few people complain about Windows 8 installing stuff like video drivers and mouse drivers automatically.
on Acer Aspire Windows 8 - All the drivers I have to instal, do not include an installation program and I have to instal the drivers manually. I don't know if I am doing it right or if there is an easier way of doing it but I have to right click the downloaded Zip file for Bluetooth, extract all files, search for the Bluetooth folder in Device Manager to instal the driver. I have got six drivers (not all Bluetooth) to instal and just want it get it right. before I upgrade to Windows 8.1 again.

Display drivers are not working properly (i.e., everything appears bigger and unclear), earlier I'd successfully updated the display drivers and made it work using Device Manager. making a backup of the drivers (may be in .inf format) from the installed drivers so that I don't have to update it every time I re-install it.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a ASUS N56VM laptop, I have upgraded to Windows 8.1 Pro a few months ago (free DreamSpark account) and I can't get USB 3.0 to work at the speeds at which it needs to work. An 3GB ISO which I copy from my HDD to an USB3.0 USB-stick gets a max speed of 25 mb per second. I have already tried everything I could think of, including the following:
Upgrading Intel chipset drivers from ASUS support site (delete old, install new)Upgrading BIOSINF hack (Windows 8 and Intel USB 3.0 Host Controllers | Plugable) "Windows 8* has a native in-box USB 3.0 driver. Intel is not releasing a specific Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller Driver for Windows 8."
The driver I have is: imgur: the simple image sharer
The only thing I can think of is maybe mailing ASUS if they can supply a new BIOS revision or mailing Intel if they can supply some new chipset drivers...
EDIT1: A few months back, when the laptop was still running Windows 7, the read/write speeds were "normal", meaning that they were what you would expect from USB 3.0.
I have an Asus P8Z77-V Deluxe. It replaces a motherboard that failed. I have moved the Win 7 image over to the new board using a "restore to other hardware" feature in a backup program. It did not work properly. I am not able to get some drivers to install. For various (and sufficient) reasons I really really don't want to do a clean install. When I first booted, it would not even boot until I used Win PE to repair the boot. Various squirrely things are still wrong. Like not being able to see more than one hard drive. Occasional crashes for no obvious reason.
For an SATA controller when I run update driver or running the Intel INF setup program provided by Asus I get a message:
7 series/C216 SATA AHCI controller 1E02 Also This operation requires an interactive windows station.
I have just run the Intel update program and it says it can't identify a device an I need to contact the board manufacturer.
An alternative I am considering is to install a Win 8 update over the Win 7 telling Win 8 to retain my programs, settings, and data. But I am not sure this will get me where I want to go. My major question about that is will the Win 8 installation be clever enough to use all of the driver files from Asus that I have downloaded (and I point it to) rather than installing something like the incorrect ones currently installed?
I am running a pc with a switched boot for XP pro 32, W7 64 HP and Windows 8 pro 64. I usually connect to my monitor with DVI and everything is hunky dory. I lent a friend the monitor cable for a few days and connected using an HDMI cable. I didn't have any specific graphics drivers on any of the operating systems. They all report full hd in control panel but there is a wide margin around the display. I went on the AMD graphics site and downloaded the autodetect software in turn and then the catalyst software. This worked fine for XP and W7 but not Windows 8. The graphics are Radeon HD 4200 onboard an Asrock 880GMH/U3S3. Any solution for Windows 8.
