I have just installed windows 8.1 on Dual Core Laptop. Just wanted to know how can I create a backup of my Windows 8.1 installation so that in future if Windows crashes I can restore the installation+other s/w installed, like we do fresh install of Windows through USB boot.

Is it possible to roll back to win7 from Windows 8?
I purchased Windows 8 pro as an upgrade from win7 through Microsoft so I do not have a disc. I've looked at several vids on the internet and nothing worked.
I have tried start up and recover, Windows 8 is the only system available.
I purchased my laptop with win7, so no disc or recovery disc.
I also tried setting up a vhd and boot into that, it did not work.
I don't know what Windows 8.1 has done to my system but after getting rid of it and re-installing Windows 8 ENTERPRISE again I cannot create Windows to GO any more
It doesn't matter if I plug in an SSD, a standard USB stick or a standard external USB HDD - I get No suitable devices found when launching the application from the control panel.
(I can do it manually the old fashioned way but I don't know why the standard method is broken when it was working perfectly before).
I have a Toshiba laptop with windows 8 pre-installed in it. I would like to take a system image including OS, drivers and software. After that need to install windows 7 keeping windows 8 as it is. In case of failure, this image can be restored right?
If I want to remove windows 7 only how will I do it to keep windows 8 only.

The Windows 8 came with the laptop. The only reason I am interested in Windows 8 is bitlocker.That is probably the only feature I am interested in.
I purchased my HP Envy laptop a few months back - it came pre-installed with Windows 8. This ended up becoming problematic because as a gamer, a few of the games I wished to play were not compatible (even after scouring the net and researching a million ways to try get certain games to work).
So to cut a long story short, I did a full partition backup of all the partitions my laptop and then reformatted everything into 1 single hard drive, which I then installed Windows 7 on to. While Windows 7 works well on this machine, I've lost a few functions due to some incompatible drivers (like the amazing audio my laptop used to have, the fingerprint scanner, etc). I soon came to discover that my laptop model was specifically designed for Windows 8 and could therefore not be perfectly compatible with Windows 7.
So now, I would really like to restore how my laptop was beforehand (with Windows 8), although I am not sure how to go about doing this. I still have my full backup of my laptop's previous state. The program I used to back it up was EaseUs Todo Backup. This may seem like a bit of a dumb question, but I'm a little nervous to tamper with things I may not understand, like I did when I previously downgraded my PC to Win 7.
I had win7 and Windows 8 on my system. then I deleted win7 and installed a fresh copy. the boot screen is now traditional black and white boot screen where we have to choose OS. I want Windows 8 blue boot screen back.

After a few boots it went back to the text menu, and only returned a couple of times. Is there a way to get the graphical boot menu back permanently? It looks a lot nicer. View 6 Replies View RelatedI am trying to re install 8.0 using the option to re install all programs to Factory Settings. Downloads 99 programs and when it tries to do the updates it fails and then starts the reverting back to original programs. This seems never to finish.
I had done an Image backup so that I could go back to it in case of a failure.
I did not do the option to wipe the disk and then install to factory.
I also could not get my machine to use the Recovery DVD's. But did use the screens that ask you questions about recovery.
I did the recovery twice and it failed both times and never did get back to the first install.
Since there seems to be no reason for the failure in the 99 updates I am at a loss of whether I should try again and wipe the disk clean for C:/
I updated my windows 8 os to windows 8.1 via windows store and now my laptop slows up. Booting takes a couple of minute around 3-5 then loading apps also now takes a minute to load and in gaming i sometimes have fps drops which i dont have in windows 8
And i find this "refresh" in the setting which says that it will refresh my laptop back to default. Does this mean that this will restore back the default os which my laptop comes with (windows 8 single language)?
it also states that "GO TO STORE TO REINSTALL WINDOWS 8.1 and YOUR APPS" (does this actually mean that windows 8.1 will be uninstalled/ removed?
I was installing Windows 8 at my desktop pc.Suddenly power cut occured and it caused the compute to shut down.Then when I restarted my pc again a messege appeared saying that the installation has been corrupted and it can't be continued and it doesn't log on.After that when I tried to re-install Windows 8 the setup got stuck at the "setup is starting" window.I waited overnight for it to go and the installation to start.But it doesn't happen.I have tried to re-install several times but the same problen happens again and again.So neither I can log into my computer now nor I can re-install windows.I don't know what to do.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a HP Envy 4 Ultrabook and I want to install Windows 8 from scratch, I put the installation files on a flash drive from a DVD of Win 8 I had, but when I go to install it, it says the "We couldn't find any drives". I have tried using DiskPart within the CMD as well, but it only finds my flash drive when I run list disk. Also, my drives are completely formatted, and I accidentally wiped the recovery partition. I tried with a USB of Win 8 Pro, and it was fine, showing all of my drives correctly, but that version is linked to another PC, so I can't install it. Also, I booted into a Linux Mint live CD and tried to install it, it sees my hard drive correctly, but the Windows install does not, I can't figure this out, never encountered it before. Is Linux my only option at this point?

I decided to install Win 8.1 RTM x64 yesterday but what I expected to be a breeze turned into a nightmare. Installation fails, I am even unable to get into Safe Mode.
I was running Win 7 Ultimate x64 before without any issues whatsoever.

I have recently formatted my old windows. But now I am not able to install windows 8(actually even windows XP and seven) . When I try to boot from USB setup starts But 'Getting files ready' (which is second step of installation) stucks at midway like at 14% or 52% or 74% i.e. at any arbitary percentage and nothing happens . I have an ASUS mother board and don't use an graphics card.
I had two monitors and an HDMI cable plugged in. The short story is that the Intel drivers seem to get lost.
Windows installed normally until it went into to the final setup.
The program will switch to another screen at this point and picked a monitor and the HDMI to TV connection.
Unplugging the HDMI cable allowed me to finish.
Windows 8.1 RTM installation says (Display) not supported
1. I tried with windows 8 x64 RTM upgrade,it started and after restart it displayed display not supported
2. So I tried with windows 8.1 x64 beta upgrade still same msg,so itried updating all display drivers and other driver and tried again still same message
3. So tried clean install with windows 8.1 RTM, still same msg diplay not supported

I just finished building my computer. Clean SSD and HDD.
I boot on USB with Win 8 in it.
I go through with it, installing on partitioned first and after failing that on unallocated space.
Both ways result in the installer preparing files, going through everything fine. Then at the end of that window my computer restarts and starts the whole set up all over again.
I can install Windows 8 in my SSD, right?
My friend has an ultrabook (hp envy 6-1113tx) which came with windows 8 pre-installed and after of more than 1 year of usage the OS became unstable and sluggish so he wanted to do a reinstall. I made bootable usb and enabled the legacy mode in BIOS after which the usb became visible in boot options. But it didn't show any HDD to install the OS on during installation. And also the HDD partition style is GPT.

If I put the installation files onto my own personal flash drive and create an installation USB out of it, would I later be able to delete the files off it and continue using it as a regular flash drive?
I am installing the Windows 8 upgrage on a windows 7 professional 64 machine.
The upgrade assistant noted the DVD and Secure boot issues that I believe are common incompatibilities.
I ordered the $39.99 upgrade and tried to install and it fails out at 32%

I have a Dell Inspiron 7720. I have created an uefi bootable usn flash disk with rufus 1.4b
I'm trying to boot from it so i can create a Windows 8.1 uefi installation and the problem is that the usb flash disk wont boot.
I have secure boot enabled and legacy option rom disabled.
I get as far as " a driver is needed to continue installation" not found, make sure its on the right media. Here is what i got done on my own..
1- BIOS setting "legacy" and U E F I" boot from USB.
2- F 9 to choose boot order.. selected USB device
3- Installation starts for WIN 7
4- Driver is needed to continue, and i have no clue what it is..some one pointed me to . f 6 f l p y-x 64 because its an HP Envy...
5- Driver not found / wrong driver..
6- Shut down restart.......................
My DVD is Windows 7 ultimate X 32, X 64..
No matter what i cant boot form my USB /U E Fl /WIN 7 pen drive.seems like its not recognized or drivers for the USB chip set not installed.. Of course using the O E M DVD of win 7 fails. because of the G P T style.
I'm trying to recreate win 8.1 pro system reserved partition on my ssd. Initially I installed windows on my ssd (c: ) and windows created the sysres partition on my unformatted hd (without telling me anything). After some trouble I managed to be able to boot from ssd directly without going through the sysres partition on the hd. Now if possible I'd like to recreate the sysres on the ssd (by disconnecting my hd so that windows has no other options than creating this on the ssd). If a try a system refresh it tells me it would wipe away all my user installed apps.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to install the printer software for an HP Laserjet printer and can't get it installed. I've even had an HP tech person try to install it via remote control and he couldn't. I was told that something on my system is preventing the installation.
I ran sfc /scannow and it found corrupted files that it couldn't repair. I would be happy to send any log files that may be needed.
I partitioned my hard disk into a 150GB (C) and 500GB (D) and upgraded from Win7 to Windows 8 (and subsequently Windows 8.1 after the recent updates). The OS is installed onto the C Drive.
Performed a Clean Installation of Windows 8 on my C Drive. Under the Choose What To Keep Option, I selected Nothing.
Technically speaking my C Drive would have been wiped clean but after the Windows 8 installation, my C Drive only has 5GB of space left (145GB is being used). The Windows 8 OS is not detecting any of the old programs in my C Drive and the automated Disk Clean up feature only offers removal of temporary internet files. Which brings me to one possible assumption...
The Clean Installation Failed. Windows 8 simply installed itself again on my C Drive and the remaining disk space (containing my previous Windows 8.1 OS and programs) is locked down somewhere. I suspect this had something to do with changing my HD format 3 years ago when I wiped clean my pre-loaded ASUS laptop Win7 and partitioned it to install my Windows 8.
How to remove my previous OS?
Is it possible not to have the partition "recovery"?

In the tutorial to install Windows 7 in UEFI, there is not that damn partition recovery, while in the tutorial for Windows 8, we can see it.
When I install Windows 7 (MBR mode), I avoid this partition "recovery" by creating a partition with a name before installation. I install the OS on it and everything is fine, no partition "recovery" But here, since one must delete all partitions, If I create a GPT disk with a partitioning tool before installing, is that it might be appropriate?
I updated one laptop with one promo code bought etc and all fine. Came to do the same with another pc but after i inserted the promo code and clicked to submit the payment the screen froze at that point and wouldn't go any further.
Have received an email from Paypal to tell me the payment has been processed but obviously when i try to re-install it etc it's asking me for a promo code and to pay again... i can't carry on from where i left off !! what i can do now?

I am attempting to install Windows 8 (I currently have Vista) but Autorun doesn't work and when I attempt to access the disk in the CD ROM I am asked if I want to format the empty disk. I recently had to reformat the hard drive back to its factory settings (Vista O/S) for reasons I won't go into. The problem isn't limited to the installation disk.
