Setup Installation :: Change Main Accounts Email Address?
Apr 11, 2014
So my new windows 8 laptop came today and as you can imagine I was very excited. Because of the excitement, whilst setting up my microsoft account I made 2 spelling errors in the email. Now that my pc has been set up and stuff, my microsoft account isn't because their activation email is going to an email address that doesnt exist...how do I change this bloody email to a correct one without having to redo everything...
I'm wanting to change the email address I use to log on to my system. Is there an easy way to do this or do I need to back up all my files and move them over to a new account?
When I set up my computer, I accidentally made a typo in my email address. I'm trying to download some Microsoft software from the internet and this typo is causing me dramas because it's not a real email address and I can't go any further with downloads without verifying the email address by accessing a verification email in an email address that doesn't exist!!! Confused? Yup, me too.
It seems like such a simple thing but I cannot find a way to go back and change the administrator email address. I can't find an option to do so in account users. I have made a new account user using my real email address but... I just keep hitting brick walls.
How do I change the email address associated with my Windows 8 computer?
I got a new laptop with Windows 8 for Christmas. It was my first exposure to Windows 8 and I sailed through the installation/setup pretty quickly. Unfortunately, I've forgotten most of what I did and now I have a problem.
When I sign in to Windows 8, it shows me my main email address. But I've just moved and cancelled my account with that ISP. In another couple of days or weeks, the account will die and what will happen with regards to signing on to Windows 8. I assume I need to go to a website somewhere and re-register my laptop in some way to use a different email address.
Microsoft Account keeps rejecting my email address saying it must only contain letters, numbers etc. I used the same email address to register for this forum.
how to change my account type back to administrator but with no luck.
I have been running this laptop as my main machine for a few months now with no problems, however, I realised I had a problem when I wanted to change some networking settings on Friday when the UAC said I needed admin privileges and wouldn't let me enter a password or click "Yes", hence not allowing me to go any further.
I went to control panel > User accounts and saw my account type has been changed to Guest.
Now I have thought long and hard and I have not changed or had any need to change my account type to guest, nor has anyone else had access to my laptop, so I can only assume this has been done in the last week or so during a Windows update.
I'll tell you what I did to try to resolve this below:
First of all I tried to enable the hidden administrator account while in my account by running command prompt as admin (and then entering net user Administrator /active:yes) but as I don't have admin privileges I couldn't even open the command prompt so I couldn't get any further.
After reading around the net and this forum I found this thread and gave it a try. After restarting the laptop and booting into safe mode I was expecting to see and Administrator account next to my account at the log in screen, however, there was only the administrator account to choose from, so I clicked it and it went through the first time initialisation of the account and then showed me the start menu, I then went to run the command prompt as admin and it worked, I entered net user Administrator /active:yes which worked with no problems. I then went to the user accounts in control panel to "Manage other accounts" but my usual account was nowhere to be found. So I thought I'd restart the laptop and see what happens out of safe mode.
When it restarted I was still only presented with the admin account, so I logged in to disable the hidden by entering net user Administrator /active:no in the command prompt run as admin and then restarted.
After restarting again I was expecting to see my account but was still presented with only the admin account, but when I clicked on it it said it was disabled and I was completely locked out of windows.
Luckily I created a restore point so I managed to restore my settings, and was back at square one.
After a bit of testing it seems my main user account is being removed when I enter safe mode, but do nothing else. Why entering safe mode is removing my account.
I am at a bit of a loss as I can't seem to activate admin privileges on my account, but if i try to fix it I lose my account completely.
Have recently done a clean reinstallation on an SSD of Windows 8.1 including Media. The installation completed without problems and all is working as before except....Wanting to download an item from the STORE I found my password was not accepted.I then created an Alias to gain access to my account. this informed me I needed to put in my password to change it which of course was not possible.
System and Security advised to turn on updated latest Password, but this only applied to my new alias, so I deleted my original account hoping I would then be able to use my new Alias....again not possible.Three more Alias Accounts and numerous Codes by phone and e-mail again failed.
Filling in forms giving all my accumulated password confirmed all was legit. Trying once again to gain access to my account informed there was no such account.
The only Way I can see to solve this problem is when opening Store and trying to download an item a strip appears showing with my "original e-mail registration" and below a space for my password. Is it possible to change this "e-mail registration" to a new ALIAS thereby allowing me to use a new password
HP laptop with Windows 8.1 updated. I want to change my log in email and still keep everything I have in that account. Setting up an alias starts a new account and I would have to reinstall everything I already have installed. Is it possible to do to just change the email addie and keep everything?
put Windows 8 recovery on a 1TB ext HDD; Decided after to put on smaller HDD & copied to it. Now my 1TB ext HDD reads empty but only 31.9GO! Tried format & Seatools, which says everything ok. How to get my HDD to full capacity again?
I would also like to delete the recovery from the main HDD & save space. I was given this option at the time but can't find it now?
Due to changes of servers used by BT, we have had to reset all of the technology in the house, but I got stich when I looked at my laptop, as I could not find out how to change the details to start again even though its the same e-mail address.
I was used to using windows 7 but windows 8.1 is causing me some problems
I am not finding a way to include my icloud email address in the Win 8.1 mail. I had Windows live mail, but the download to 8.1 has left me to see a dll is missing window when I try to view my mail. I like being able to sync my mail with devices...but it appears Win 8.1 may not allow it.
Windows 8. It removes anything I have saved from my desktop, leaves my main folders blank and it also resets all of the programs I have on my account. The files do seem to be safe from within the computer/Local Disk ( C : ) /users folder and I do not have separate accounts for anyone. How do I prevent it from resetting itself every time I start up my computer?
I deleted my main windows user account and ever since ive been working tirelessly to try and fix the problem. Every time I boot up it automatically takes me to a temporary profile with the same name as the previous one that i deleted and because its a temp profile i cant access most things, and believe me I've tried everything (system restore, hidden admin) but nothing will work and i just want to create a new user and forget that one, is this possible or will i have to reset my pc?
I upgraded to from 8 to 8.1 last night and now my main account is not showing up on the front screen for me to be able to log into it. All the other accounts are there. I've looked in 'CUsers' and the folder is still in there, how I can reinstate it? I also had a look at the restore point so I could 'roll back' but there's not a point in there from before the update, I thought update always set a restore point automatically?
I am trying to change the ip address manually. to unbrick my router. so I go to my network and click properties to change the tcp ect. and the famous Unexpected error accured pops up. I try all the regsvr32 ect. stuff and nothing works. I have windows 8 pro.
I bought a new Dell 5 weeks ago (my old one of 9 years died) sadly it came with Wiin 8 installed? I wish I hadn't? The accounts and Passwords are atrocious. I have been locked out Twice using the same password I have used for 5 years and had used the night before and then had to wait a week for a disc to Reninstall Win 8 Twice It's a Disaster. I have just given up after 5 weeks and the last 3 days straight trying to open the Microsoft Account's that will enable me to use the Apps I had before on my XP3? Skype and any download from thier MS "Store" is a no go' no Account no apps.
It' say's that I can use my dashase@... gmail account then a Password - it has to be a EMail adress not a username? They want me to open a Outlook express or Hot mail account, or I can only have half a bummed out OS system thats the only thing it can be! They asked for all my personal details as well, which I gave and still no account? I believe I have tried at least 30 times to open a MS Account and I cant if I don't then Windows 8.1 is useless to me ???
I have been using an unelevated admin user account since installing win 8.1 pro and I've been having problems constantly (UAC nagging me, access denied when trying to kill processes and so on) and I decided I want to use the elevated admin account as my main. I understand security risks and convenience is more important to me as I don't have any sensitive information on my laptop. I was wondering if I can merge the user account I used until now, which has all my app settings, with the elevated admin user account and use that one from now on.
like everyone else my tiles are missing but for some reason I am under temp user. I'm looking apps there's only a few. I can click on computer, users: to select files from the main user but I cannot sign in as that user. When I click on users it only shows administrator and activate guests. This happened two weeks ago
How do I change the USB port that Windows to Go listens the drive while in use?
I have this computer, with an Asus P8H61-LE Motherboard. As you expect, it doesn't pack USB 3.0 ports. But it does come with some nifty PCI-E x1 slots, so I've bought a random USB 3.0 PCI-E card, with 40 pin for front panel. Works amazingly. Fast and beautiful, exactly what I've expected. BUT, it doesn't have its own BIOS or something, so my UEFI BIOS cannot boot from devices connected to it. In fact, it doesn't even detect anything there until I boot up to the O.S.!
And I have this Windows to Go Setup. Works like a charm on USB 2.0, but sometimes I feel the bottleneck, and wouldn't hurt using my only USB 3.0 device on those USB 3.0 ports, eh? I've tried disconnecting and reconnecting it on USB 3.0, but WTG just ignores it as if it weren't there. Even when I connect to a different USB 2.0 port, it doesn't detect.
This USB port remapping would serve for other uses too. Once, I've connected my drive to a client's computer, for repairs. But it took longer than I expected, and I had it connected on the front USB. I needed to connect other thumb and external hard drives and had to use the rear USB ports for this, because WTG didn't detect anywhere else.
I have been having several issues with Windows 8 (more specifically Windows 8.1).
My Toshiba U845T-S4165 has been dropping WiFi access, switching to "Limited" WiFi status, or cannot connect to my network whatsoever. The most aggravating thing is that this happens at seemingly random times and frequency. I can go a week or two with no issue and then one day I have constant problems where I can't connect after repeated tries. I have trouble-shooted everything I can and have tried some workarounds I found online. I finally contacted Toshiba and all they did was delete my network driver and redownload/reinstall it. That seemed to stabilize the problem for about 8 days or so but now I am having consistent issues.
I have read that many people started experiencing this problem after upgrading to Windows 8.1. While I can't say with absolute certainly that my problems began after upgrading, but they may have. So I am trying to revert to Windows 8. Now this would be a seemingly easy process however ignorantly and stupidly I did not create recovery media after I initially bought the laptop and built-in recovery drive has been, again stupidly, deleted during my upgrade process to 8.1. So in short, I have no recovery media.
I did find a source online that sells Windows 8 downloadable software that I can download, burn to DVD, and then start from scratch. However, I must provide my own COA. I used Belarc Advisor to find my current COA. However, this COA is associated with Windows 8.1. So my ultimate question is: Will this COA work with a Windows 8 recovery media? Did the COA change when I upgraded from Windows 8 to 8.1? I don't want to start this process and then get screwed midway through because my COA isn't valid when downgrading.
It says: Windows can't be installed to Drive 0 partition 2. (show details)
After I click that I get a 'Windows Setup' popout that says Windows cannot be installed to this disc. The selected disk has an MBR Partition table. On EFI systems, Windows can only be installed to GPT disks.
How to change the Start Page background. About a month ago, I pasted a picture on my Photos background (Commander Riker is standing there with a horrified look, explaining "It all started with Windows 8!" But the picture is blurry.
I have a VHDX which I sometimes boot from and sometimes use as a VM in Hyper V. It has Windows installed on the default C: drive.
This is somewhat confusing as the C: may be the original C: drive or the VHDX C: drive (with the original C: drive renamed to H: in my case). I want C: to always be the native boot and T: (for example) to always be the boot for the VHDX.
Can I change the VHDX to have Windows installed to say T:? I was thinking of renaming all instances of C: to T: in the registry and updating BCDEDIT. It is not possible to change system disk in disk management.
If this is not possible can I re-install windows on the VHDX and specify a different letter and C:?
This is how it looks when booting from VHDX:
Code: DISKPART> list disk Disk ### Status Size Free Dyn Gpt -------- ------------- ------- ------- --- --- Disk 0 Online 465 GB 1024 KB Disk 1 Online 931 GB 31 GB * Disk 2 Online 483 MB 0 B Disk 3 Online 65 GB 381 MB
I am installing the Direct Download version of Windows 8. As it begins to setup it goes to a screen named "What needs your attention". It says "The following things need your attention before you can continue to the installation". It goes on to say "Change the folder or file name of C:users on drive C:"
It gives me an option called "Open" which takes me to this C: drive. However, I cannot change the name of C:users. Not even with administrative permission.
I just changed the wifi card in my laptop and forgot to back it up first. After changing it it failed to boot because of a recent hardware change. I downloaded a copy of windows 8 pro to attempt to do a repair install, and did the automatic repair option but it failed to do it. Is there a way I can get my system to boot without reinstalling the OS?
