View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I set up my computer, I accidentally made a typo in my email address. I'm trying to download some Microsoft software from the internet and this typo is causing me dramas because it's not a real email address and I can't go any further with downloads without verifying the email address by accessing a verification email in an email address that doesn't exist!!! Confused? Yup, me too.
It seems like such a simple thing but I cannot find a way to go back and change the administrator email address. I can't find an option to do so in account users. I have made a new account user using my real email address but... I just keep hitting brick walls.
So my new windows 8 laptop came today and as you can imagine I was very excited. Because of the excitement, whilst setting up my microsoft account I made 2 spelling errors in the email. Now that my pc has been set up and stuff, my microsoft account isn't because their activation email is going to an email address that doesnt exist...how do I change this bloody email to a correct one without having to redo everything...
View 1 Replies View RelatedHow do I change the email address associated with my Windows 8 computer?
I got a new laptop with Windows 8 for Christmas. It was my first exposure to Windows 8 and I sailed through the installation/setup pretty quickly. Unfortunately, I've forgotten most of what I did and now I have a problem.
When I sign in to Windows 8, it shows me my main email address. But I've just moved and cancelled my account with that ISP. In another couple of days or weeks, the account will die and what will happen with regards to signing on to Windows 8. I assume I need to go to a website somewhere and re-register my laptop in some way to use a different email address.
Microsoft Account keeps rejecting my email address saying it must only contain letters, numbers etc. I used the same email address to register for this forum.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently had to update my brother-inlaw's new laptop to the 8.1 version. He doesn't use email so when I was prompted to enter an email address when you installed he update, I just put in a random email address and password not knowing I'd need that info to sign into the laptop every time you turned it on. Once I finished the install, I didn't restart it to check to see what it would do. Now he tells me when the laptop starts up, it wants the password for the account I entered when I put in the random account during install. He tells me you cannot change the user name (email address) so I'm at a loss here on what to do to get him logged onto his laptop. Is there something I can do to get that info changed or at least get him logged into the computer so that info can be changed? I have created a new email for him to use but it does no good when I can't even get into the computer.
View 9 Replies View RelatedHave recently done a clean reinstallation on an SSD of Windows 8.1 including Media. The installation completed without problems and all is working as before except....Wanting to download an item from the STORE I found my password was not accepted.I then created an Alias to gain access to my account. this informed me I needed to put in my password to change it which of course was not possible.
System and Security advised to turn on updated latest Password, but this only applied to my new alias, so I deleted my original account hoping I would then be able to use my new Alias....again not possible.Three more Alias Accounts and numerous Codes by phone and e-mail again failed.
Filling in forms giving all my accumulated password confirmed all was legit. Trying once again to gain access to my account informed there was no such account.
The only Way I can see to solve this problem is when opening Store and trying to download an item a strip appears showing with my "original e-mail registration" and below a space for my password. Is it possible to change this "e-mail registration" to a new ALIAS thereby allowing me to use a new password
HP laptop with Windows 8.1 updated. I want to change my log in email and still keep everything I have in that account. Setting up an alias starts a new account and I would have to reinstall everything I already have installed. Is it possible to do to just change the email addie and keep everything?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have preinstalled Win 8 on new desktop, now upgraded to 8.1. When I first started setting it up and it required an account login, I didn't really realize that it was going to exist outside my computer. I used my full name and primary email account for it. Then, it set up a folder(s) under Users (using my name), in the file structure. When I copied over say "Documents" from my Win 7 machine, they now show in a path of: This PC / Windows / Users / (myname) / Documents. I will not be using "the cloud" for anything, and want to only have a local account with Admin Privileges and a local account for using 99% of the time. Hence a multi-part question:
1) If I make a change to my MS password, like setting it up with a non-identifying username/password with a Hotmail email (which I never use), how will it affect my docs/pics/music/etc that is under Users / myname? If I change the MS login to a LOCAL login, what effect would it have instead?
2) Is there a way to get (myname) out of the file structure and rename it something neutral, or will that bring chaos?
3) And, as long as I'm asking things...I created the new Admin-Account and Daily-Account, but it seems like neither of them can access anything. They just get "permission denied" - even on the Admin one. I set up a Hotmail account for them both, so they have MS logins as well. Can I just switch them to LOCAL logins as well?
Due to changes of servers used by BT, we have had to reset all of the technology in the house, but I got stich when I looked at my laptop, as I could not find out how to change the details to start again even though its the same e-mail address.
I was used to using windows 7 but windows 8.1 is causing me some problems
I am not finding a way to include my icloud email address in the Win 8.1 mail. I had Windows live mail, but the download to 8.1 has left me to see a dll is missing window when I try to view my mail. I like being able to sync my mail with devices...but it appears Win 8.1 may not allow it.
View 5 Replies View RelatedWindows is asking me for a password despite I've never had a password.
Here's what happened:
I've never had a password and choose during the win install to have 1 local account without password.
I used to have a user/login name with an non ascii character (é), and it was causing me some trouble. Hence I decided to change it with ascii only characters. Control Panel, users etc ... properties, changed the name of the local user.
Reboot, and boom, Windows asks me for a password and is displaying the former user name !! But there's no option to change the user name, I've read that there should be a back arrow but it's not here (probably because windows "thinks" there's no point since there is only 1 user).
I don't know what to do, I used a Linux live usb distro to use some tools that can reset password and unlock account, however:
1/ it can only reset password, which seems not to be the issue here, the issue is the wrong user name
2/ the linux tool shows 1 local user with the last update name
So I'm guessing windows is not using the proper name to login, but doesn't provide any mean to change it.
Is it possible to set MY Ethernet IPv4 Address as xxx.xxx.0.2 - as of now it's xxx.xxx.0.9 ....

View 4 Replies View RelatedI bought a new Dell 5 weeks ago (my old one of 9 years died) sadly it came with Wiin 8 installed? I wish I hadn't? The accounts and Passwords are atrocious. I have been locked out Twice using the same password I have used for 5 years and had used the night before and then had to wait a week for a disc to Reninstall Win 8 Twice It's a Disaster. I have just given up after 5 weeks and the last 3 days straight trying to open the Microsoft Account's that will enable me to use the Apps I had before on my XP3? Skype and any download from thier MS "Store" is a no go' no Account no apps.
It' say's that I can use my dashase@... gmail account then a Password - it has to be a EMail adress not a username? They want me to open a Outlook express or Hot mail account, or I can only have half a bummed out OS system thats the only thing it can be! They asked for all my personal details as well, which I gave and still no account? I believe I have tried at least 30 times to open a MS Account and I cant if I don't then Windows 8.1 is useless to me ???
During the night my windows desktop with Windows 8.1 pre-release was update to Windows 8.1 release.
Of course it deleted my Favorites in IE & updated to IE11. It also deleted all my contacts in Mail.
However when I logged into my other desktop using my MS account, it updated IE Favorites & Mail contacts to 0.
I had this info on my portable & put this info on a thumb drive. There is no way to import or export this info into IE11 or Mail.
Is there something I missed on this procedure?
I was under the impression that I had control of my computer & not MS!
Just bought a PC with Windows 8 installed and get crazy with this PC.
Whenever I type a letter (or even any keyboard) in the password field, this round-dots image is turning for 10 minutes before displaying again the password field.....
And the problem is starting again and again......
Tried to follow instructions I was led to on YouTube to delete old email showing where I sign in with Windows 8.1 Pro Update.
Thought I'd cracked it as the old email has now disappeared from everywhere else I used it to sign in.
Signed back into Windows and.................... there it was again.
I was asked did I want to delete signing in with Windows and sign in locally. Now I'm not smart, but I didn't like the sound of that so cancelled that option.
We were sent some Surface Pro 2 Tablets at work. They were already setup with the programs we needed, however they were not behaving correctly. Kept getting network errors for the domain, as everything else on the network was working but that.
Apparently at least unjoins our domain, restarts, and now I cannot login for anything in this world. I cannot get any other user accounts to show up but the last person who logged in, who was an administrator on tablet under our domain, and the password simply does not work. I have tried restarting in safe mode with and without network and that doesn't work because it won't recognize the password for the user. So I thought system restore would work but apparently I need to login to the account to do that as well.
Also tried rebooting to the command prompt. I apparently need to login for that as well. I have tried rebooting into a password recovery/reset disc but I cannot get it to boot to the cd, or at least if it is, it's certainly not reading the disc (which I knows works for XP & 7). I cannot do a reset password usb because alas, I need to be able to login to be able to create one of those. I've looked at several online things but most of them start with "you need to be logged in".
Can I stop windows from asking me to enter my password for microsoft account every time i turn on my laptop? I tried using local account it worked but i had to use microsoft account again to get access to app store and mail app.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm having a problem setting up a PIN code to logon to Windows 8.1
I've linked mine and my partners MS accounts to Windows and as we use password generated passwords consisting of random characters, numbers etc, it would be so much easier to just use a PIN to logon to the computer. However, every time I click the option to 'Add' under PIN in the Sign-in options page of PC Settings, nothing happens. The cursor busy icon flickers but no new menus or options appear and I'm ultimately unable to access the settings.
I've tried logging off/on, rebooting and restart the credentials manager service but there's no change.

After clicking Add on the sign-in options page, I'm seeing quite a few of the following errors logged in the Application log:

i have recently bought a new laptop, windows 8. Its a Lenovo Ideapad Y50.
At first i had a password and a pincode, i was able to switch between the 2 login options at the login screen, i always used the pincode, as it was faster. I forgot the password. And somehow the option to choose between the 2, is now gone. To conclude, i am unablebto login to my laptop, as i dont know the password and it is not allowing me to login through my pincode. The account is not a microsoft account, so i cant just go to there website and change my password. Nor do i have a password reset disk. I have tried all the passwords i know and have no clue what to do next.
I have installed the Windows 8.1 update on two computers; one requires a password to login which I have changed to a PIN, the other logs in with no password.
How can I log in without a password or pin on the computer set to do so as control userpasswords2 will not let me change the password or delete the account and I don't want to set up more accounts
Right now when I start Windows 8 it stays on the lock screen and requires entering your MSN to further continue to desktop. I don't use charms I use Start8 so basically I get straight to the desktop but after I enter pass. How can I disable that logging on MSN completely?
Also at some time in the future I will want to re-enable that option. But better - can I reenable it to require password but once I log in to automatically sign off MSN?
I have a Win7 PC and a Win 8.1 PC, each with an admin and a user account and all accounts have passwords. On the Win7 PC, it will auto login without typing either user account password and it does this each time I reboot. On the Win 8.1 PC it will only start up once without needing either of the user account passwords, but then after each reboot, the users login screen displays and I need to select an account and put in the password for the account. How do I get the Win 8.1 PC to login automatically each time I reboot? Where should I look in the registry?
Netplwiz seems to be the same on each PC. The registry at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWARE MicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionWinlogon is similar on each PC although the Win 8.1 PC has a few extra entries. I do not have ForceAutoLogon in the registry on the Win 7 PC and I do not want to add this in to the registry in the Win 8.1 PC because then Remote Desktop Connection will not be able to connect.
I'd like to logon to Window 8 without a MS account password. In other words, Can I sign in to Windows 8 straight and use Calendar or People? If I open a MS password, then I have to sign in with that password.'d like to logon and go straight to Start screen or Metro, if I'm correct.
