HP laptop with Windows 8.1 updated. I want to change my log in email and still keep everything I have in that account. Setting up an alias starts a new account and I would have to reinstall everything I already have installed. Is it possible to do to just change the email addie and keep everything?

View 1 Replies View RelatedHave recently done a clean reinstallation on an SSD of Windows 8.1 including Media.The installation completed without problems and all is working as before except....Wanting to download an item from the STORE I found my password was not accepted.I then created an Alias to gain access to my account. this informed me I needed to put in my password to change it which of course was not possible.
System and Security advised to turn on updated latest Password, but this only applied to my new alias, so I deleted my original account hoping I would then be able to use my new Alias....again not possible.Three more Alias Accounts and numerous Codes by phone and e-mail again failed.
Filling in forms giving all my accumulated password confirmed all was legit. Trying once again to gain access to my account informed there was no such account.
The only Way I can see to solve this problem is when opening Store and trying to download an item a strip appears showing with my "original e-mail registration" and below a space for my password. Is it possible to change this "e-mail registration" to a new ALIAS thereby allowing me to use a new password

When I set up my computer, I accidentally made a typo in my email address. I'm trying to download some Microsoft software from the internet and this typo is causing me dramas because it's not a real email address and I can't go any further with downloads without verifying the email address by accessing a verification email in an email address that doesn't exist!!! View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen installing my Windows 8, I put the PC name as "Usmaan" and the account name as "UsSy" but after the installation and having used the laptop a bit more.. I changed the account name to "Usmaan".
The problem which I have is that although the account name has changed to "Usmaan", I still see the name "UsSy" every now and then when doing some development or when I for example check the path of files.. it will says C:...UsSy...file.txt
I should also state that when I was installing Windows 8, I tried specifying the account name as "Usmaan" but it complained that I cannot have the PC Name and and the account name the same.... hence why I put it as UsSy.
How do I change the UsSy name to Usmaan permanently?
Just got a new laptop with windows 8, not familiar at all with the OS, but accidentally misspelled the account name. Obviously, this has little impact on functionality, but I would like to change the name so any files I have from my other computer get put in the proper location without having to correct the username typo when switching back and forth. View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a 2-month-old Dell Inspiron 15 notebook running Windows 8.0, and trying to upgrade to 8.1. I have plenty of HD space and 4GB memory. I have 2 user accounts, one with admin designation. I want to change the admin to the other, but I cannot. When I try to change the user accounts, I get a message requiring the account with admin to OK any changes.
When I enter that account's password, I get a message that the password is incorrect. I changed the password in the "reset password" site online, but that password doesn't work in the change users part of the PC. So I am stuck. Right now, I cannot affect any changes to the system, because that requires the OK of the admin user account, and that in turn requires a password, which seems not to match the password that I entered for that account.
When I installed Windows 8 I didn't use a Microsoft account, but to use Skydrive, I had to connect, and when I did this, it changed my username, is it possible to change my username instead of using my Microsoft.com account's name?

The server name is "goodbuddy" on "TRUCKERSREPORT" domain and it seems to be running some kind of setup right at login every time. I don't want to allow this user admin rights for program changes, but i need to make it so an administrator doesn't have to enter their credentials in this every time this user logs into their computer.

I have tried both from my standard account and from my administrator account.
My Windows 8.1 machine has only one interactive account - the built-in "administrator" account. It is just an internal file- and media-server without a monitor, which is accessed exclusively through Remote Desktop.
I would like to change the "user picture" associated with that built-in admin account. Trying to do it the "usual" way - through Control Panel -> User Accounts - does not work. Apparently, user picture selection is handled by a Metro app. And Metro apps are not launchable from the built-in admin.
Most likely there are workarounds. I can try using that hack that enables Metro apps under the built-in admin. Or I can add another interactive admin account and try changing the picture of the built-in admin from that other admin. I don't know whether any of these will work, I haven't tried yet.
But is there a more straightforward way to set the user picture for an account? Like copy the picture file to some folder or something like that?
Is my windows corrupted. I cannot change or add or turn on guest account in windows 8. when I click on manage on account nothing happens. and when i click pc setting from the charm the user tab is not there. what happen fix this issue whithout resetting windows..

I have a friend who keeps getting borderline malware (e.g. browser toolbars) installed on his computer. There is even an active antivirus on his pc (I believe norton). It comes with his new pc and is valid for 1 year.
After I clean his pc, if I change his account type from administrator to limited user, it should prevent any toolbars from installing, right?
Would this break any software or cause any file to become inaccessible?
When setting up Windows 8 64-bit Pro on the page titled "Sign in to your PC" I choose the sign into my Microsoft account as opposed to "Sign in without Microsoft Account". Big mistake. It created a username called dwmad_000 which is part of my email address used for that Microsoft account.
To amend this username to one of choice, I changed the name in my online Microsoft account and also from C.Panel created a local account. I now have both in Windows Explorer but the default one is always dwmad_000.
How to get rid of dwmad_000 or change it permanently to First Name Last Name and sycn the 2.

I have been running this laptop as my main machine for a few months now with no problems, however, I realised I had a problem when I wanted to change some networking settings on Friday when the UAC said I needed admin privileges and wouldn't let me enter a password or click "Yes", hence not allowing me to go any further.
I went to control panel > User accounts and saw my account type has been changed to Guest.
Now I have thought long and hard and I have not changed or had any need to change my account type to guest, nor has anyone else had access to my laptop, so I can only assume this has been done in the last week or so during a Windows update.
I'll tell you what I did to try to resolve this below:
First of all I tried to enable the hidden administrator account while in my account by running command prompt as admin (and then entering net user Administrator /active:yes) but as I don't have admin privileges I couldn't even open the command prompt so I couldn't get any further.
After reading around the net and this forum I found this thread and gave it a try. After restarting the laptop and booting into safe mode I was expecting to see and Administrator account next to my account at the log in screen, however, there was only the administrator account to choose from, so I clicked it and it went through the first time initialisation of the account and then showed me the start menu, I then went to run the command prompt as admin and it worked, I entered net user Administrator /active:yes which worked with no problems. I then went to the user accounts in control panel to "Manage other accounts" but my usual account was nowhere to be found. So I thought I'd restart the laptop and see what happens out of safe mode.
When it restarted I was still only presented with the admin account, so I logged in to disable the hidden by entering net user Administrator /active:no in the command prompt run as admin and then restarted.
After restarting again I was expecting to see my account but was still presented with only the admin account, but when I clicked on it it said it was disabled and I was completely locked out of windows.
Luckily I created a restore point so I managed to restore my settings, and was back at square one.
After a bit of testing it seems my main user account is being removed when I enter safe mode, but do nothing else. Why entering safe mode is removing my account.
I am at a bit of a loss as I can't seem to activate admin privileges on my account, but if i try to fix it I lose my account completely.
I recently had to update a second computer's emails from another computer, both having Windows 8.1 and Office Professional--or sync them. So I exported all three .pst accounts in Outlook 2010 from computer 1 and imported all of them into computer 2 into Outlook 2010. Well, I didn't notice that there was a Duplicate setting (probably because I don't normally do this) and left the Import setting concerning duplicates at the default setting, so I got a lot of duplicates. Since then, I have received more emails into my accounts at computer 2. What is the best way to fix the duplicate issue?
Also, I noticed that many Sent folders were missing in one Imported account for some reason. Why would just some of the emails be Imported and not others? This is bad! If it wasn't for this, I could send an important email today. How can I make sure that all of the emails on computer 1 get Imported onto Computer 2? All too often, I find glitches in MS software.
I have to go to task manager and close it down and open it again but I can't get any work done as I can't save anything. I just installed the windows 8.1 patch two days ago.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am new to Windows 8. I emailed myself a .jpg photo as an email attachment (in yahoo email), from a different computer. When I try to save the attached photo to my own computer, the options are to save as "webpage complete" or as "HTML." I don't want to do either of those. I want to save it as a .jpg-format image in a folder of my choice on my computer.
Also, when I click on the attached photo, it opens in some unnamed Windows 8 imaging app that takes up the whole screen. I don't know what I am supposed to do with it (there are no explanations or options, or even any text that tells what the app is called or what it is supposed to be doing), and I can't get rid of it unless I press the keyboard key with the picture of a window on it, and then get back into my browser (Chrome). If I knew the name of this intrusive imaging app, maybe I could uninstall it, or at least reconfigure Windows 8 to make it save images in the format I want them in and in the folder where I want it to save them, so I can manipulate them the way I want to (in my case, with Paint Shop Pro).
I've been running windows eight for around nine months now, and today it decided to remove all my apps and customizations on my computer. This normally wouldn't be a problem, as i could just re-install them, however, every time I log off or power down, the apps and any other customization resets to the default start up screen, and i lose the majority of my desktop icons. I've attempted a system restore and a system refresh with no luck.
View 1 Replies View Relatedi have recently migrated to Windows 8 from Win7 Pro and am coming to grips with the elevated security MS has dropped on us.Either by design or accident when i installed Windows 8 i made my account a standard account not an Admin account.
Following the steps outlined on this site, which has been highly useful, i have learned that the home edition of Windows 8, which i have, is rather more useless in changing many settings that were taken for granted in win7.
My issue in changing my account to an admin account is after successfully activating the admin account and signing into that, the changes i make in that account to my standard account, are not saved or reflected when i log back into my standard (or what should now be an admin) account.
My standard account remains a standard account no matter how many times i log into the admin account and change the account type.I am more than frustrated by the lack of ease Windows 8 has infused into what should be a simple process of having my account be the administrator account.
How to change the "Save As" directories in Libraries.
Basically, i have 2 drives running on my laptop being :
- C Drive: SSD ~ i want this to store all my system information + very frequently used programs.
- D Drive: HDD ~ to store
* My Documents,
* My Pictures,
* My Videos,
* My Music, +
* Games + etc.
The problem now is that all the directories above are pointing to C Drive as their default save location. How to change this so that by default, all the files above will show "Save As" in D Drive?
I bought a shiny new laptop yesterday with windows 8 pre-installed. After setting a few things up, i restarted the computer for the first time. At this time the computer downloaded many updates. On start up since my user account has been downgraded to a guest account. This is the only account on the computer, as such i do not have administrator rights and i am unable to log in as an administrator.
May I have to restore the computer back to factory settings but how to do this without being the administrator.
