Windows 8. It removes anything I have saved from my desktop, leaves my main folders blank and it also resets all of the programs I have on my account. The files do seem to be safe from within the computer/Local Disk ( C : ) /users folder and I do not have separate accounts for anyone.How do I prevent it from resetting itself every time I start up my computer?
View 1 RepliesI deleted my main windows user account and ever since ive been working tirelessly to try and fix the problem. Every time I boot up it automatically takes me to a temporary profile with the same name as the previous one that i deleted and because its a temp profile i cant access most things, and believe me I've tried everything (system restore, hidden admin) but nothing will work and i just want to create a new user and forget that one, is this possible or will i have to reset my pc?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI upgraded to from 8 to 8.1 last night and now my main account is not showing up on the front screen for me to be able to log into it. All the other accounts are there. I've looked in 'CUsers' and the folder is still in there, how I can reinstate it? I also had a look at the restore point so I could 'roll back' but there's not a point in there from before the update, I thought update always set a restore point automatically?

I have been running this laptop as my main machine for a few months now with no problems, however, I realised I had a problem when I wanted to change some networking settings on Friday when the UAC said I needed admin privileges and wouldn't let me enter a password or click "Yes", hence not allowing me to go any further.
I went to control panel > User accounts and saw my account type has been changed to Guest.
Now I have thought long and hard and I have not changed or had any need to change my account type to guest, nor has anyone else had access to my laptop, so I can only assume this has been done in the last week or so during a Windows update.
I'll tell you what I did to try to resolve this below:
First of all I tried to enable the hidden administrator account while in my account by running command prompt as admin (and then entering net user Administrator /active:yes) but as I don't have admin privileges I couldn't even open the command prompt so I couldn't get any further.
After reading around the net and this forum I found this thread and gave it a try. After restarting the laptop and booting into safe mode I was expecting to see and Administrator account next to my account at the log in screen, however, there was only the administrator account to choose from, so I clicked it and it went through the first time initialisation of the account and then showed me the start menu, I then went to run the command prompt as admin and it worked, I entered net user Administrator /active:yes which worked with no problems. I then went to the user accounts in control panel to "Manage other accounts" but my usual account was nowhere to be found. So I thought I'd restart the laptop and see what happens out of safe mode.
When it restarted I was still only presented with the admin account, so I logged in to disable the hidden by entering net user Administrator /active:no in the command prompt run as admin and then restarted.
After restarting again I was expecting to see my account but was still presented with only the admin account, but when I clicked on it it said it was disabled and I was completely locked out of windows.
Luckily I created a restore point so I managed to restore my settings, and was back at square one.
After a bit of testing it seems my main user account is being removed when I enter safe mode, but do nothing else. Why entering safe mode is removing my account.
I am at a bit of a loss as I can't seem to activate admin privileges on my account, but if i try to fix it I lose my account completely.
I do not know why but my Outlook.com my main user did not get update for example I do not see my Facebook friends in the massage also the back button does not there ( the back button near the massage and the setting gear icon ). Moreover it happens only on my main account ...

At this time the computer downloaded many updates. On start up since my user account has been downgraded to a guest account. This is the only account on the computer, as such i do not have administrator rights and i am unable to log in as an administrator.
May I have to restore the computer back to factory settings but how to do this without being the administrator.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am a system administrator in a large enterprise environment and we are doing a rollout of Windows 8.1. In our image capture we somehow captured a setting that is disabling users from setting up a connected account with their domain account. I am relatively sure that it is in my unattend and I can fix it for machines going forward but I really don't want to have to reimage the machines I've already deployed.
When I go to connect an account, the "connect to a Microsoft account" option is grayed out and the "some settings are managed by your administrator" message is displayed at the top. This is NOT a group policy object that is applying. The machines are in a test OU and there is absolutely no policy applied. I have searched all through local policy and even did a search through the registry for "account" (that took forever) but have been unable to find any registry key or local policy that would be causing this issue.
What setting might be causing this? I have 30+ machines already out in the environment and the user experience is going to be terrible if I have to reimage them all.
I have been using an unelevated admin user account since installing win 8.1 pro and I've been having problems constantly (UAC nagging me, access denied when trying to kill processes and so on) and I decided I want to use the elevated admin account as my main. I understand security risks and convenience is more important to me as I don't have any sensitive information on my laptop. I was wondering if I can merge the user account I used until now, which has all my app settings, with the elevated admin user account and use that one from now on.

View 3 Replies View RelatedHow to correct user accounts in windows 8 Pro on new HP Pavilion g7 2246nr, I set notebook up using Microsoft account then called Microsoft when problems started, and we decided to switched to a local account. They created a new user account, then copied all my files to it. But I ended up with i administrator account that could not be deleted. That worked but my files are broken up between 3 other user accounts. I spoke with Microsoft to try and consolidate the accounts and they used a command line in cmd, run as an administrator, but it did not finish, or I may have cut it off by accident.
I am still working with the system but it has problems. I have reloaded the software 3 times so for. How to correct the problem without reloading all the software again? Also after setting up sharepoint in Office Pro Plus, it created another administrator account in UAC. I did not think this was going to happen? Right now in the UAC I have two administrator accounts with the sane name, In c:users there 5 with the temp file they created. What that command line they attempted to use was to correct and consolidate the user accounts.
How to correct the problem without reloading all the software again.
I have a user with a machine that was setup with Win 8.1 Home. The machine has been upgraded to 8.1 Pro and joined to a domain (WinSrv 2003). I need to get the content/configuration from their old local machine user profile to their new domain user profile.
I tried to copy the contents of their ../users/<name>/.. folder from the local user profile to the new domain user profile (after they had logged in once, and then logged off). This did not work. When I did the copy, I grabbed all files, including hidden...was that my mistake, or is the issue broader?
In the end....they want their old stuff and configuration under their new credentials/profile.
Yesterday I received and opened up new laptop with Windows 8. Without realizing what it was, I set up and then closed my Windows account. I realize now I need to keep it open. How to reopen the account?

This is pretty insane because all I had to do was enter an email address; no name, no password, nothing. Now, all I have is an email address, and of course no name and no password. So, exactly how am I supposed to enter a name and password din SQL server, for the security to work, or whatever, when these things don't exist, and there's no way to create them.
I've been working on this project for weeks now, simply because every time I need to do something, I literally can't do what I need to do.
The REAL problem is that I have to use SQL Server to login to Windows. My Windows 8 works fine, and my SQL Server works fine, but they won't work together. That's the entire problem that I'm dealing with.
Do I have to type password to log into windows each time that I'm using a 8.1 MS account?
I used to rely on skydrive a LOT, but now it seems like:
1) You need to login via a MS account to use skydrive.
2) You need to type your password to your MS account each time you login to windows.
I'd like to logon to Window 8 without a MS account password. In other words, Can I sign in to Windows 8 straight and use Calendar or People? If I open a MS password, then I have to sign in with that password.'d like to logon and go straight to Start screen or Metro, if I'm correct.

I can't delete the one named administrator. I want to delete it because i'm getting this "preparing windows" like each 3 days ( temporary account ) . I might have deleted the registry for the user "administrator" a long time ago ....
For the last 2 days, I can't get logged into my computer.
My computer (running windows 8.1) starts up fine, and I get to the screen where I select my user profile and enter my password. I only have 1 account set up on this machine, and it uses my Microsoft Account log-on information. I enter my password correctly, and it starts to "appear" as though I am getting logged in. I receive the "Welcome" and the dots go around in a circle as it is loading. After about 5 minutes, it goes no where and then the enter passwod pops back up. I can not get past this screen, It just keeps going around in circles. I have also tried using the PIN instead of password, same result. Sometimes I receive the message "the user profile service failed the sign-in".
So far I have tried resetting my Microsoft password, and have done that successfully. I can access my Hotmail and all that fine from other machines. I also took the computer and hardwired the internet to it, thinking it might be something with the wireless (although if it is wasn't seeing the internet I would think it would tell me that).
I seem to remember a few days ago the computer telling me it was updating when I shut down, so maybe that is causing something. I am stuck and don't know where to go from here.

This annoyed me a lot more than it should have, because i have tried changing the user name through control panel, but that just changes the display name, not the folder's name. How do i rename it?

View 3 Replies View RelatedRecently upgraded to Windows 8.1 on three PC's on home network but now I'm having a problem on my ASUS VivoTab Smart Tablet.
My main login screen has been setup to show three (3) users but shortly after upgrading, it started showing a fourth user. The user name for this fourth user is "zqtjerxnjfcz". When I clicked on it, it started the customizing process for a new user. As soon as I could I signed out and logged in under my own account and then deleted this new unwanted account but it keeps returning, usually after a restart or signing out and back in.
I am using windows 8 pro OS. I have only one local account on my machine. My account is already in Administrator groups. I have checked that.
My problem is that I am not able to create/change any user account from control panel. After traversing to Control PanelAll Control Panel ItemsUser Accounts.
There are all the different links named as below:
Change your account name
Change your account type
Manage other account etc..
However when I click on any of these links, nothing happens at all !!!
What could be the possible reason of this? Window is updated, I am able to do other stuff that only admin can do for example: installing/uninstalling software, running system tools etc. Moreover I am able to make changes to user accounts from Computer Management.
Is it possible to remove the initial admin account and user profile (not the built in elevated) that is setup when Win 8 1st starts?
--After creating a 2nd admin account and logging into it I try to delete the initial one but a UAC comes up asking me to use the initial account to do the delete.
Here is what I did:
install Windows 8
setup initial user account: name it Acct1 with local admin privileges.
restart computer, login to Acct1.
open CP, add user account: name it Acct2 with local admin privileges.
restart computer, login to Acct2.
via CP, chose remove account.
A UAC pops up asking to use Acct1 for the delete procedure to delete Acct1.
If I select "no" there is a return to the selection screen.

The reason I am trying to delete the account is I do not like the c:user(profile) and account name.
I am using Windows 8 on my laptop which uses my Windows Live account to login. Problem is it has suddenly stopped letting me log in and I'm locked out. The message I get is "You can't sign into your PC at the moment. Go to account.live.com to fix the problem or try the last password you used on this PC". I hadn't changed anything which may have made it do this.
I have tried the following but nothing is working:
- Changed my password in my Live account
- Used a previous password
- Plugged my laptop into a network cable rather than using just Wifi
- Rolled my laptop to a previous time
I can't refresh as it needs the password but I can access the command prompt. I'm not knowledgeable on command prompts so not sure what I could do here which might resolve it. I also don't want to lose any files.
I got an issue with my logging Windows 8.1 account. When I log in it tells me that my password is incorrect and I should go to windows.live.com/refresh and I did. But when I change my password it tells me the same thing like it haven't even change nothing. I try using my Windows 8 CD that I have and I did an automatic repair and it tells me this.

At that point I try to change my way of solving this and I went to system restore. I choose the date time I want it to restore my system to see if that fixed anything, but nothing still.
