I was wondering how can I apply that during a clean install.
I currently have windows 8 installed. I wish to install another windows 8 os on a separate hdd on the same pc. I wish to do this because I share this pc with my brother who is paranoid that my constant tweaking somehow breaks his games installs. Is dual booting two windows 8 installations possible? If it is, what is the best way of going about it? I have an external hard drive that I backup all of my partitions to using acronis, so I'm not too worried about breaking something.

So I had this recovery error that said my winload.efi was missing so I ran the recovery from boot up and decided to recover. I read that this will delete the files from C: so I turned on the "Maintain User Data" option and selected all including the local disk c from advanced selection. But when the process was finished, my laptop was empty and no data was restored. What happened ? did I just misunderstand how it works and now it's gone ? or is it just somewhere I can't find ?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to dual boot Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit and Windows 8 Pro. I want to have each OS installed on separate Hard drives. I want the default OS to be Windows 7 (loads automatically) or goes to the boot manager screen and choose either Win 7 and Win 8.
I've been running Windows 7 on an SSD hard drive with a UEFI Boot. I'm looking to install Windows 8 on a WD Caviar Black 1 TB drive.
Steps taken:
-Burnt Windows 8 to DVD to boot and install from.
-Re-ordered boot order to boot from DVD
-Windows 8 install starts
-Windows 8 drive screen - format the WD Caviar Black 1 TB to install Windows 8 on.
-ERROR Message appears - Can't find media location (I didn't write it down but will on next install I will update). Something like 0x00007B. The solution I found was to disconnect my Windows 7 drive (and all other hard drives).
(Issue: won't that affect the set up of the dual boot?)
-Disconnected Windows 7 drive and was able to install Windows 8.
-After successful install of Windows 8 I re-started my system expecting to see the dual boot menu options. However, Windows 8 loaded directly.
-Changed boot drive order to SSD (with Windows 7) then WD 1TB Drive (with Windows 8). However, Windows 7 then loaded directly.
-I rebooted into Windows 8 and went to the boot order menu in Settings > Control Panel > System > Startup and Restore > (might be a few other tabs). The drop down box shows Windows 8 but no Windows 7.
So, I'm sure I did something wrong on the install. Any thoughts?
If the SSD is a UEFI boot should the WD 1TB (Win 8 install drive) be the same? Is it critical to have the Windows 8 drive connected while installing Windows 8 to the other hard drive? If so, I will have to solve the error message I get after formatting the WD 1TB drive during the Win 8 install. (I know not having the specific error code doesn't work - will update tonight with that info).
Also, I have a 2TB drive that I think has a MBR partition. Would that affect things? Should I even have that? I'll confirm that too. Just hoping to possibly get the ball rolling with answers.
I have Win 7 on a 60gb ssd hard drive. I would like to put another 60gb ssd drive in my computer and run win 8 off of this. Is it possible to run this as a dual boot system. Will I get the option to boot into either when I boot up.

So I have thought to buy a Samsung 840 Pro 128GB SSD and install it along with my HDD. I had one sata drive wanted to add second sata as data drive.i disconnected older hard drive connected new one,installed windows 8 on it,everything went fine.I did not format older drive yet,reconnected it afterwards,changed boot order in BIOS but the second sata drive reads bus number 0,one with operating system reads bus number 1.Is this O.K.?Usually bus number 0 should be the operating system is on.How can I change this?

However, most of the programs and data I need are still on the old computer's boot drive, specifically all of my STEAM games (none of which I have the DVDs for.)
My question is if I can create symlinks to the old boot drive without losing data on it. This will most likely be a temporary measure, as the drive's a fairly slow 5900RPM Barracuda, and I want something faster, but I can't afford a better one just yet...
I want to move all my data from my MacBook to a laptop with Windows 8. I have everything backed up on an external HD; when I plug the HD into the laptop, it's not recognized. The first thing I did was creating a bootable USB with Windows 8 software, it did not work. SO i used Rufus, it worked and launched the Windows 8 installation and recovery but when I tried to recover, refresh, anything it told me the disk was locked... or anything the only thing I'm able to access is Command Prompt.
I've been trying some commands that I've seen online but no luck so far. Some commands tell me "OK, successfully something" But when reboot and I change to default the boot order and UEFI then the same error appears.

I have a lot of problems with installing different application like Adobe Reader, Microsoft Mathmatics, it keeps saying I don't have permission to write to ProgramData.
I have tried giving myself adminsitrative rights through the security tab and using the tool Take Ownership. It just wont let me install.
(With microsoft mathematics I have to abort the installing because I can't create a shortcut, because I don't have administrative rights.)
Is there anyway that for gives me administrative rights for all eternity? Because having problems installing a standard programs is getting tedious!

I have Adodbe Photoshop Elements installed on my Windows 8 PC. I am trying to upload some new actions to PSE and am being told to copy them into the Adobe file in the Programdata file. I cant find it anywhere.
I have clicked on the view/show hidden folders and still no luck.

I booted in recovery mode but I can't make a system recovery drive on a USB because it says the boot files are missing. And I don't have a recovery disk because SAMSUNG ATIV 6 doesn't have a disc drive. I've been searching the web for a recovery disc download to no avail.

I have recently formatted my old windows. But now I am not able to install windows 8(actually even windows XP and seven) . When I try to boot from USB setup starts But 'Getting files ready' (which is second step of installation) stucks at midway like at 14% or 52% or 74% i.e. at any arbitary percentage and nothing happens . Actually I am able to move my cursor but installation no more proceeds further . I have tried to format many times and to run installation but everytime installation stuck at midaway without any error .
My laptop specs are : Acer aspire 5745 , 500GB HDD , 3GB RAM , intel core i3 processor
