View 4 RepliesI currently have windows 8 installed. I wish to install another windows 8 os on a separate hdd on the same pc. I wish to do this because I share this pc with my brother who is paranoid that my constant tweaking somehow breaks his games installs. Is dual booting two windows 8 installations possible? If it is, what is the best way of going about it? I have an external hard drive that I backup all of my partitions to using acronis, so I'm not too worried about breaking something.

How can I separate my Drive C User Data & Program Files to Drive D.
I was looking into Microsoft folder locations, you can check it out here: [URL] ......
I was wondering how can I apply that during a clean install.
I have created both MSDarts.
I would like to merge both darts into one bootable iso.
WinAIO maker professional fails to merge the two.
However the same software had no issue merging the win 8 32 and 64 bit professional into one iso.
I want to merge my drive volumes into one volume. I'm in disk manager and get this screen:
I just want a C partition, and I would like to add all of the space from the D partition to that.
How do I go about doing this?
With Windows 8 there is no way (that I am aware of) to avoid having to create a user profile. So now I have my user profile and the stupid Public profile. For some reason some stuff gets put into the Public profile and some stuff is being put into my profile.
An example would be documents.
The majority of my documents are stored in Users/<name>/Documents yet for some reason there are a bunch of documents that I use being stored in Users/Public/Public Documents
Is there a way to merge these 2 folders and then get rid of the Public profile completely?
I had a 17 GB unallocated partition. I changed it to a Primary partition. It is empty. Can I merge it with the C: partition ? Picture--- edit--- A picture---

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a laptop with Windows 8 installed in a 256Gb SSD. There's a 32Gb recovery partition whose purpose is to recover the drive to factory install. Since I already imaged this recovery partition to an external drive I would like to delete it and merge it to the main C partition to increase capacity. I know I can do this easily with 3rd party solutions (Easus, etc), but I'd like to do it using the Windows 8 built in Disk Management. I tried but when I right click on the 32Gb recovery partition the only option that shows up is "Help", it does not show any other option that shows for the other partitions (Shrink, etc).
View 9 Replies View RelatedQuite a while ago, Google started with the pop-up messages on YouTube, asking to merge your Google+ and YouTube channel. At the time I didn't feel like it and selected that I wanted to keep both my Google+ page and my YouTube channel separate from each other on the same Gmail account.
However, on YouTube I now have two different channels. One that in fact is my Google+ profile (no videos) and the old YouTube Channel (with videos) that I already had.
How do I merge these two services from the same Gmail account to one profile?
I have my system reserved partition attached with my personal partition and i have a lot of useful data in it.
Because of it i'm not able to format system reserved at start to avoid boot loader asking me wether you want to choose between windows 8 or the earlier version of windows.
How can I seperate system reserved from my partition .
System reserved is attached with My folder (G)

I have made my Windows 8.1 DVD, but I haven't committed to installing it yet.
I'd like to just install it on a separate partition on my second hard drive.
Normally I wouldn't hesitate to just go ahead and install it, but I'm not sure if the new Uefi bios will just except it and automatically set up the dual boot menus etc, the way that it did in the past.
Are there extra steps that I need to take before going ahead with the install.
I definitely don't want to replace my current Windows 8 install until the final version comes online at that time I will probably do a complete new install of all my software.
Dual install without using VM?
I just bought a new laptop - an ASUS N550JV - with a single 1TB hard drive. I specifically sought a 1TB hard drive because I intend to store a lot of photos on the laptop and already have over 600GB of photo data to store.
When I got the laptop the first thing I did was to go through the windows update process to get everything up to date, then I upgraded to Windows 8.1 (the laptop came with Windows 8), then I ran the windows update again until everything was up to date.
It was only then that I opened up file explorer with the intention of setting up a basic folder structure for the files I planned to transfer to the laptop. I was dissapointed, at that point, to discover that instead of a single 1TB C: drive, I saw a 370+ GB C: drive and a 530GB + D drive. I confirmed with system information that there is indead just a single drive, and that it thus came partitioned into 2 primary volumes (which, btw, still don't add up to 1TB BTW!). This setup really doesn't work for me, because the "larger" volume is still too small for all my photos, and it would be illogical and inconvenient to have to split up the photos so that some were on the C drive and some on the D drive.
Could I somehow merge the two partitions back into one primary drive, or at least re-size them so that the D drive had at least, say, 750GB, and shrink the C drive accordingly. He pointed me to the Disk Management utility and directed me to delete the (still empty) D drive, which would make that storage space unallocated, then extend the C drive to use that unalocated space. I was able to delete the D drive, and confirmed that there was now 530+ GB of unallocated space. However, when I click on the C drive the option to extend is greyed out.
I did a bit of Googling at this point and discovered that you can can only extend to contiguous unallocated space, and the unallocated space was NOT contiguous - there is a 350MB "Recovery Partition" between the C and D (or unallocated) spaces. In fact, there were multiple recovery and other partitions. (From left to right: 100MB "EFI System Partition", 900MB "Recovery Partition", 370+GB "Primary" C Drive with Boot etc, 350MB "Recovery Partition", 530+GB "Primary" D drive, and 20+GB "Recovery Partition").
Of course I would be too scared to delete the recovery partition, but there's no option to do so anyway ...
I asked the family member again and he suggested creating a USB Recovery Drive and, in the process, wipe the recovery partition. So used the windows utility to create a recovery drive, and sure enough, at the end it asked if I wanted to delete the recovery partition and I said yes. The good news is that this removed the 20GB partition, and I was able to extend the D drive to use that newly unallocated space. The bad news is that the 350MB recovery partition still lies between the C and D drives, preventing me from merging the two.
Again through Googling I found that there are tools I could use to force delete the recovery partition, but I'm afraid to do so and kill my computer or recovery options all together. I also heard that this 350MB recovery partition was created when I upgraded to 8.1, and that rolling back to my factory setting won't remove the partition?
So the question is, what can I do? Is there an easy way to "move" the recovery partition to the end of the drive without breaking any functionality that it might have? What would happen to my computer if this recovery partition were to "break" or get removed? Is it best that I just "live with it" the way it is despite the inconvenience?
I have win7 hp 64bit and i want to install win 8/8.1 on a separate partition(duel boot).
How do I do this? i do not want to upgrade I want to keep separate systems.
Consider this screenshot from first page:
I just want to know, is it possible to seperate the DVD-ROM drives into seperate categories like they were in Windows 8 and all other previous versions.
In 8.1, now the DVD-ROM drives appear mixed under the "Devices and Drives" depending on drive letter. I even have an iPhone Browser and Nokia Phone Browser appearing here, both of which have no drive letters. They aren't even drives.
I would like to take these icons out of the Hard Drives into an "Other" category like they were in Windows 7 and 8.
I have a lot of drives and was so used to the position each drive appeared.
Is there a program out there that gives your monitor its own desktop, like it has it's own taskbar, it's own programs, etc.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to dual boot Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit and Windows 8 Pro. I want to have each OS installed on separate Hard drives. I want the default OS to be Windows 7 (loads automatically) or goes to the boot manager screen and choose either Win 7 and Win 8.
I've been running Windows 7 on an SSD hard drive with a UEFI Boot. I'm looking to install Windows 8 on a WD Caviar Black 1 TB drive.
Steps taken:
-Burnt Windows 8 to DVD to boot and install from.
-Re-ordered boot order to boot from DVD
-Windows 8 install starts
-Windows 8 drive screen - format the WD Caviar Black 1 TB to install Windows 8 on.
-ERROR Message appears - Can't find media location (I didn't write it down but will on next install I will update). Something like 0x00007B. The solution I found was to disconnect my Windows 7 drive (and all other hard drives).
(Issue: won't that affect the set up of the dual boot?)
-Disconnected Windows 7 drive and was able to install Windows 8.
-After successful install of Windows 8 I re-started my system expecting to see the dual boot menu options. However, Windows 8 loaded directly.
-Changed boot drive order to SSD (with Windows 7) then WD 1TB Drive (with Windows 8). However, Windows 7 then loaded directly.
-I rebooted into Windows 8 and went to the boot order menu in Settings > Control Panel > System > Startup and Restore > (might be a few other tabs). The drop down box shows Windows 8 but no Windows 7.
So, I'm sure I did something wrong on the install. Any thoughts?
If the SSD is a UEFI boot should the WD 1TB (Win 8 install drive) be the same? Is it critical to have the Windows 8 drive connected while installing Windows 8 to the other hard drive? If so, I will have to solve the error message I get after formatting the WD 1TB drive during the Win 8 install. (I know not having the specific error code doesn't work - will update tonight with that info).
Also, I have a 2TB drive that I think has a MBR partition. Would that affect things? Should I even have that? I'll confirm that too. Just hoping to possibly get the ball rolling with answers.
I read an article saying that some Windows version updates will choke if the user folders are located on a separate partition. Any problems upgrading from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 when their user folders on located on a partition other than the c: drive?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have network and printer connection problems. I need to ask some basic questions before giving details.
Using new Sagemcom F@st 1704N combo modem/router (replacing an old fried Sagemcom 4300 single function modem) wired to a previously used Linksys/Cisco 610N router which was, and is wired to 3 WAPs in more remote locations.
Are these assumptions correct?
1 The new network SSID is coming from the 1704 combination modem router.
2 The old network SSID is broadcast by the remote WAPs, but not by the old 610N device.
3 Can a network printer (Brother MFC-8810 DW wireless network device) be configured to work with 2 or more wireless networks at the same time.
4 As a workaround is it it possible to configure a Windows 8.1 laptop computer using Bluetooth to connect to the router and printer.

Currently I have a machine with Windows 8 pre-installed already. But now I don't like Windows 8 as much because certain programs I want to use requires Windows 7. Though I would still like to keep Windows 8 because it's licensed. I have an extra hard drive lying around with Windows 7 loaded in it already. Now I would like to dual boot between these two drives. Do I have to turn off Secure Boot and change the boot orders around to boot the Windows 7 hard drive?

I know that the Realtek HD Audio Manager would let me split them up, but when I download that, all I get is some worthless Dell Audio thing (picture at the bottom) that barely has any options. So, is there anything I can do about this? I don't know how specific to be, so if you need more information, just say so.
