Accounts :: New User Cannot Login (user Profile Service Failed)
Jun 3, 2014I am trying to add a second account to my machine and whether I try a Local or Microsoft account, I get the same "User Profile Service failed the sign-in. User profile cannot be loaded" error every time I try to sign in for the first time. I've Googled this a bit and it seems everything I've found yet (except one) has been with logging in to existing profiles. For the one that was with a new profile, the solution didn't work.
I tried deleting all files similar to the specified one (file in C:UsersDefaultAppDataLocalMicrosoftVSCommon12.0SQM with name of "sqmdata-####-###-#####.sqm"), but that had no effect. I'm guessing this is because I have VS2013 installed, as this happens with my laptop as well. I don't want to delete my profile, I have important (and large) data in my documents folder that I don't want to lose. I'm guessing this will have to do with messing with the registry, but I don't know where to begin.

Aug 23, 2013I downloaded from Microsoft (so no disc) Windows 8 32bit. Didn't realise my 64bit compatible Dell laptop was not using all its 8gb of RAM then found out it couldn't with a 32bit OS.
Its just when I run some tasks like Handbrake conversion or DVD conversion processes it slows my web browsing to a snails pace and someone suggested I needed more RAM!...thus my investigating why only 2.99gb was being used.
Have I got to fork out for a totally new licence?..I can't remember if when I bought this version it asked me if I wanted 32 or 64 version!

Jul 27, 2013I had a laptop running Windows XP. When Windows 8 came out, I downloaded Windows 8 Pro upgrade. I clean-installed it and also upgraded to WMC edition when Microsoft were giving this away for free.
Now that PC is kind of dying (it is about eight years old,) so I have bought myself a new one. The new one came running Windows 8 (not Pro, not WMC) OEM. I have no intention of ever using my old PC again, so my question is as follows:
How do I legally remove the Pro and WMC licences (and if required, Windows 8 itself) from the old PC and upgrade the new PC's Windows 8 to Pro WMC? I have a record of both the Pro and WMC product keys already. But how do I legally move them across to the new PC and upgrade the new PC's Windows 8 OEM to Pro WMC?

Jun 15, 2014Here is the deal I have 2 hdds (160 gb and 1 tb) late last night used the 1 tb as a flash drive and re installed my OS on the 160 gb drive. The "system" files are on the 1 tb drive and all other files ( boot crash dump etc ) are on the other one.
PROBLEM: while doing a cold start the system fails to spin up th bigger drive in time for the software to detect the system file on the bigger drive and it brings up the boot manager saying files are not present to load, a restart fixes the problem as the bigger drive would be up to speed by then, any work around to delay the boot till both drives are up to speed .........???.
Further i think that moving the "system partition " to the other disk will eliminate this issue ...... how do i go about doing that ... See the image below
QUESTION :if i remove the 1 tb disk physically and reinstall OS and connect it back will everything be as good as new or will it pose problems as then there would be two "system " partitions .....

I need to know what to do to get this all to happen.According to an expert Dell XPS 12 user, partitions #5, #6, and #7 MUST be contiguous in the last sequence shown, because otherwise a Dell backup program will not work, plus there are other problems.
I'm looking for partition manager how-to details, hoping to simply drag 109 GB (D) over to the right (just left of the 227 GB Unallocated area) then easily make those two a 336 GB (D) drive

I've tried partition managers' Resize/Move function with a slider, but exactly how to use the slider to move a partition eludes me.

-MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition 8.1.1
(I've also tried its bootable CD that runs under Tiny Core Linux)
Unless I meet my objective above, I can't use my XPS 12 for work, since I need a 512 GB SSD to hold all the existing data I have.

Oct 11, 2014This desktop computer came with Windows 8 pre-installed and was updated to 8.1 from the MS free download around a year ago. While updates were automatically downloaded, the settings were not for auto updates. I attempted to install updates a few months ago but got many failures (as did many others I read about) and after installing KB2919355 the desktop was messed up and the missing profile problem was evident. Did a system restore which fixed everything and it has been stable ever since - with no updates installed.
Today after several attempts (and hours) I finally got all the Windows updates installed without failures, However, when any application icon shortcut is selected, the "Missing Profile" message comes up. I am able to start the program from the Program Files folder using the executable file and once started all appears normal. Tried re-creating the shortcuts on the desktop but get the same error message. This applies to Firefox, Thunderbird, Word, etc. Also notice that the pressing the windows key + X does not work but windows + C works as well as windows + R. Those keys and icons all work from the administrator logon so the problem seems isolated to the default user.
After researching the problem I created a new user (while under admin privileges) but no profile was created. When attempting to logon to the new user, the message "The User Profile Service service failed the sign-in. User profile cannot be loaded." Checked the User folder on the C: drive and the new user was not there.
So, before I give up and re-install windows 8.0 &8.1 ( and have to re-load a bunch of programs).

After doing this and exiting Audit mode, Windows acted as if I had were installing the OS and wanted a product key. I skipped this step, went through the configuration, but when I used my email for my Windows account, it says that a user is already using that account on my PC. Obviously, because I had been using my computer earlier today. So since it knows there is a user with that account, why can't I access it when I start my computer? A friend of mine says I may have installed Windows twice on accident, but he isn't sure.

Mar 15, 2014For some reason my computer loads slowly. I log in then black screen with mouse only can be seen. it takes <10 seconds for explorer.exe to appear. I searched for fix and found that it can be fixed by creating new profile. So, I went ahead and created profile. Logged off my current one and find this error when trying to load the new one. "User Profile Service service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded".
I then ran sfc /scannow command in Administrator command prompt. It found few files but was unable to repair them. Unfortunately I cannot open log because I have access denied popping up (was working before).

I went to the event viewer and it also said that it couldn't find my profile. I am the only user and administrator. Is there a way to make a new user profile AND not loose my files and settings.

Today when I tried to use my laptop, I got an error when attempting to log on with my profile. It states:
"The User Profile Service service failed the sign-in. User profile cannot be loaded."
I am using a different PC right now, of course. I had Googled the error, but none of the solutions (thus far) will work in my predicament. It is a Windows 8 PC, so I cannot access the system BIOS in order to perform a system restore, cause unfortunately, it goes straight to the log on screen(Which is become SOLID BLANK COLOR). I don't have a second profile on the system, either. I can't find any way to access the BIOS, Settings, Admin. Profile, or anything.
(SOLID BLANK COLOR) the back ground image for the log in screen is a solid color and not an actual image, anymore.
I can't access the start menu to open the CMD, because I cannot log into my profile and there is no other profile on the PC, besides Administrator ... Which is, unfortunately, hidden. I cannot make it visible, because I'd have to log in to accomplish such a task ...
The problem is not that I am incompetent and cannot conjure a new profile or complete simple tasks on a computer. My predicament seems to be that I cannot access anything. I need to log onto my profile in order to reach the CMD, or any other settings for that matter. Unless there's some, very well hidden, way to run CMD from the log in screen. I know that there is a minuscule detail that I am overlooking, but I cannot find it.
If there's any way to access CMD, BIOS, or anything at the log in screen.
When I opened mu laptop (I'm using ASUS) = Its going STRAIGHT to the BLANK SOLID Screen and There's that. Nothing.... I cannot find anyway how to log in using safe mode and try anyway boot using f1 or anything....

I've tried going into regedit and altering the user account, however there is not an S-1-5 entry associated with it. This happens every time I create a new user. My admin and other user account work fine.

By using the Customize feature of Windows Easy Transfer Wizard, I created a MIG transfer file, without selecting the user folders (such as Documents, Pictures or Video).
If the MIG file is copied to the C: drive, will the User Profile be created on the C: drive, when Easy Transfer is run?
I am guessing that the default User Folders will be created on the C drive, and then the locations can be changed to match the present physical location on my other partitions.

Mar 1, 2014You've Been Signed In With A Temporary Profile error In Windows 8 and boy was that a mistake, i went to where it said to go to Regedt32.exe, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionProfileList i found 2 accounts the temporary account and my account, the fourm said to reroute them to the right account so i made the temporary account go to my account and then i restarted the computer it did the exact same thing exept that when i went to user it had replaced my account with another temporary account. Any way to get all of the things i had on my user or is it gone. (BTW i have no restore checkpoint to where i can go back)

Feb 10, 2014I recently got a new laptop and have just installed Windows 8 onto it clean, I then upgraded to 8.1. Everything has been running perfectly but the HDD has two partitions so I wanted to put all my personal documents and files on a separate partition to my programs and Windows.
I achieved this by creating a new Admin account and moving the user's folder to the other partition and then I modified the path to my personal documents via regedit. Everything went according to plan and works fine so far.
However, one side effect of doing this seems to be that the live search found by hovering over the right hand side of the screen is now incredibly slow. Even keystrokes into the search bar suffer from some kind of lag and once a search query has been input it takes around 20-30 seconds to display results.
I have logged into the temporary account I used to move my personal documents and the search is fine on that so I'm guessing it's something to do with having the account on a separate HDD partition to the Windows files and folders.

Sep 8, 2013I am attempting to relocate the Users folder from C:/ to D:/ (these are physically distinct internal 1 TB drives) as par of a new clean install of Windows 8 on a new laptop.
I am following the tutorial here: User Profiles - Relocate to another Partition or Disk
The problem I face is at the stage of creating an answer file for the Sysprep tool.
Windows 8 is preinstalled and there is no separate installation media - rather it boots/reinstalls off a petition on the C:/ drive. Hnce I cannot run the unattend file command line:
<cpifflineImage cpi:source="wim:F:/sources/install.wim#Windows 8" xmlns:cpi="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:cpi" />
Where F: would be a CD drive or USB drive.
I have tried creating recovery media on a USB stick using the HP utility, but while this works there appears to be no directory structure or file comparable to that listed above. Indeed there seems to be no install.wim file anywhere.
As I am told pre-installs are very common on Win 8 laptops (mine is an HP Envy17-j005tx), I assume there is an alternative approach but I can't find it.....
As to why I want to move the Users folder - I have XP set up like this on my old desktop and it makes for a far saner directory structure, easier backup and if one needs to reinstall Windows, it makes for a much cleaner simpler process as User information is preserved on a separate disk. Also one is much less likely to run out of disk space!!

Nov 25, 2013I have a problem with Windows 8. This morning when I went to check my ASUS Zenbook laptop, the PC wouldn't access the network, even tho I could see our home network was working. I did a hard reboot and returned several minutes later to find I had been logged in under a temp password and all the desktop files I had were in the trashcan. Here's the error message that popped up in the lower right of the task bar:
"You've been signed in with a temp profile. You can't access your files, and files created in this profile will be deleted when you sign out. To fix this, sign out and try signing in later. Please see the event log for details or contact your system admin."
When I try logging out and then back in, I get the same problem. One other note: During the login procedure, this text appears in the bottom right of the screen:
"Windows Update. Your PC will restart in 2 days to finish installing important updates."
