I made some changes in ClearType using "adjust ClearType text" option, but I would like back do defaults. How can I do this? I searched in web, but all "tutorials" are about Windows 7 with a screen less.

What does this error mean ?"CMOS checksum error - defaults loaded"
I 've removed the battery on the motherboard and it worked well . , But again there was the same error.
F 1 and F 2 keys do not work.
I bought a Windows 8 laptop, ASUS Q500A, and reformatted it with Windows 7.
I went into the BIOS and used "Restore Defaults" and now all Boot Option Priorities are deleted.
Each time I boot the laptop, it automatically goes to BIOS (or UEFI).
I tried inserting the Windows 7 disc so I can access Startup Repair or Command Prompt but it freezes before it could get anywhere even when I tried it with an external CD/DVD drive.
I cannot get the laptop to boot to the hard drive or CD drive at all,
how I can reset the boot option priorities so it will be boot to the hard drive again.
I run the Cleartype text tuner wizard and chose a thicker text setting but it only works on IE, the rest of programs are unaffected, is there a way to make that wizard work for ALL programs
View 3 Replies View RelatedThe computer turn off the wireless connections and defaults into airplane mode. I had this problem with Windows 8. The option to easily toggle airplane mode on and off become grayed out unchangeable. The only way I found to temporarily fix the problem was to rightclick the airplane icon and then troubleshoot the wireless connections which would then turn wireless back on. I had the option to upgrade to 8.1 and I did and it fixed the problem for a while. It did happen again which is why I'm back on the web searching for possible more permanent solution for this. Luckily it only happened once a week ago and hasn't happened again. I was wondering if this bug was known about and if you possibly know of a way to fix.
View 3 Replies View RelatedSo I did a factory reset on my pc, came back into the room to see that my monitor (tv) said no signal and my small LG monitor was black so I just assumed it was part of the process. After about 6 to 7 hours of waiting it still remained the same, even after restarting and trying many other methods to get it to work nothing happens and also it now keeps beeping every 10 to 15 seconds trying to connect my keyboard and mouse, after the beep the mouse and keyboard turn on (the lights on them go on) then after 3 seconds or so they turn off and it does this non stop, also my graphics card is a Radeon 7700 if that has anything to do with it.

For about the last week or so my Norton 360 has been picking up a threat, every time I turn my pc on. I thought Norton was getting rid of It so I didn't pay to much attention until my media player kept playing up and certain programs wouldn't load or take a long time, so I did some research and it turned out to be a trojen. anyway I have tried to put my pc into safe mode and have restarted my pc. my operating system wont load back up.
I have a red screen with a power button that gives me the option to restart or shut down. and there is a ease of access button. I have tried repairing with the original disk but it say my hard drive is locked. and it wont let me reinstall it either.
Due to malware issue (snap.do) i want to refresh or reset my windows 8 (updated to 8.1). but on restart it gives the following error

I dont have any recovery media (disc or recovery drive).

So thinking that it will just be my old virus infested windows I tried to return to my windows 8 though it turned me to the settings page. However when ever I go to delete a file it automatically move to the recycle bin without asking me if i'm sure. I'm pretty sure windows 7 used to do that, and I don't remember checking the check box in Windows 8.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI downloaded files that I didn't want, and they have proven to be nothing but trouble. An example of one of the files is an extension call "PriceChop". To remove it I went to the control panel and uninstalled. Then I went into all of the web browsers on my computer, went into the settings, and removed the extensions. They appear to be removed until I restart my computer. I go back into Chrome, and the extension is still there. I decided to download a program called SpyHunter which is a malware remover.
I ran the program about 8 times and it is still unable to find and remove the files. I searched and searched but have been unable to find a way to remove the unwanted extensions. It has gotten to the point where the virus removed my Norton anti virus security and is trying to log into windows by itself. My wife woke me up to tell me that my computer was "freaking out". Sure enough it was trying to log into windows.
I would see a password being entered and then a log in attempt. I am at the point where I just wanted to factory reset. I go into search and typed "reset". I choose to completely reset to factory settings. When it goes to start the process it tells me I have files missing and to insert media. A while ago I tried to put a new HDD in my laptop and got a message saying something a long the lines that the disk wasn't recognised (forgot exact message)
I took the computer to my computer repair shop and they installed the HDD I asked them if it would be easy for me to do it and they said yes it was just a case of resetting the BIOS.

I am trying to run a reset in Windows 8. However, after rebooting into WinRE, it says that it can't reset because I am missing a required partition.
I searched for a solution to this problem. But, it looks like most people who see this error have accidentally deleted some Windows partitions. In my case, I have not altered the Windows partitions since original install.
I read another comment that suggested that it's due to the hd driver being missing and that I would have to "inject" the correct driver into winre. But, I'm not sure how to do that (or if that is really the fix).
My homepage keeps getting reset to a search engine that looks something like dxmi, but might be slightly different than that as its awkward to read. I believe its connected with some company called conduit. I have removed a toolbar from add/remove programs, and have reset IE10 but still it comes back. How can I get rid of it permanently?
View 4 Replies View RelatedWell, I had a dual booted machine booting Windows 8 and Ubuntu.
Windows 8 was starting to play up so I decided to completely reset the computer. I backed everything up, booted to Windows 8 and hit the 'Reset PC' button.
After answering some questions (full erase, whole disc etc), it informed me that it was going to restart. I clicked accept.
Short Story:
- Corrupted Windows 8 partition
- Corrupted Windows 8 recovery partition
Long Story:
Instead of rebooting back to anything, I got left sitting at a grub rescue prompt. From there I told it to boot windows 8.
I then spent five minutes staring at the booting screen. Nothing happened.
I powered off and tried again, this time pointing grub rescue at the windows 8 recovery loader partition. Well, initially that looked like it worked. I got the nice metro UI, and chose 'reset this PC' It then informed me that the recovery partition was missing some files. The only other option was to shut down.
I tried booting just plain windows 8 again, but had the same problem as before (nothing happening), And now when I try to boot the recovery loader, Grub tells me the EFI file isn't where it expects it to be. (Interestingly, how are you meant to boot to this without having a non-windows bootloader?)
Additional Details: Computer: HP Envy M6-1206TX. Pre-installed with Windows 8. Bought about 1 month, 1 week ago.
The Questions:
Since windows 8 came pre-installed, I don't have a Windows 8 disc, are there any possibilities for me to get back windows 8? (other than contacting the store I purchased it from)
After going through the license agreement, my interpretation is that I still have a license for Windows 8, but I am not under their limited warranty (due to dual booting). I do not wish to buy another license, as I already have one.
One last question:
If you acquired the software on a disc or other physical media, your proof of license is the genuine. Microsoft certificate of authenticity label with the accompanying genuine product key.
Neither my laptop, nor the box, nor any of the paperwork provided in it had this 'certificate of authenticity.' I suppose that means I have no legal rights to the software. Who's fault is this, HP, Microsoft, or the store I bought it from?
Just recently I was using my computer when an error appeared saying I had a drive error that needed to be fixed. I clicked the error in the system tray and then the computer restarted in order to fix the drive error. Well, I went into an "automatic repair" but then it froze on the "select your keyboard layout" screen. I then tried the "refresh your PC" option, but it wouldn't work saying that the hard drive was locked. I then tried to restore the PC to a restore point but it wouldn't let me do that either. As a last ditch resort I tried to use the "reset your PC" option which I gather is just a guided reformatting of the hard drive but it wouldn't let me do that either, saying that the required partition wasn't there. I took it into a PC repair place and they said the hard drive needs to be wiped, that the registry is corrupted or something along those lines. When booting from the windows 8 CD I tried to go into the installation menu and it won't even accept the product key on my package.
All I can really access is the command prompt. I guess I just need to reformat the hard drive and perform a clean install of windows. How to do this reformatting? I've never done it before and don't want to screw it up. I'm not worried about saving data on the computer, nothing really important on the drive that isn't already backed up on my laptop.
Windows 8. My laptop has been experiencing problems lately, and i'd like to start fresh. I realize there is an option to reset your laptop (deleting all your files and start new) but i have one question. Since my laptop came with windows 8, i have no installation disks for them. I've read in this article here, Windows 8 features a reset button: Re-install Windows without a disc - Liliputing , that the windows 8 image-thingy (im not good with computers so i dont know the correct terms) is "built in" to the operating itself. Would this mean that i am able to reset my whole laptop (deleting everything and set to factory settings) without having to bother with burning disks and such? If so, would it mean that this is as simple as clicking one button and letting the laptop do all the work?

So to be clear, fresh install....during final stages, it asks to create a login or sign in using a microsoft account which is what I do. When I do this, it asks whether I want to use the settings already on the profile...I say no I want to set it up as a new PC and yet still wallpaper comes back (Sony vaio wallpaper)
I'm just thinking if the wallpaper comes back..what else does? So I want to know whether there is a way (apart from closing the account and recreating it) to reset the profile so nothing is attached to it.
I've decided I will factory reset my operating system. I won't make you read the whole other thread, but the main issue is that "Change PC Settings", aka the Metro settings panel, doesn't work, so I can't "Refresh without affecting files". I currently have 3 partitions set up, my C: drive (499 GB capacity), which has my operating system, programs, and a load of totally legal videos; my D: drive (533 GB capacity), which contains all my user folders; and my E: drive (800 GB capacity), which contains nothing but games. The main things I want to save are my games, 800 GB, my videos, 340 GB, and my program files, which is about 65 GB. Adding on a few user files I want to keep as well, it's about 1,250 GB of stuff I want to save, on my 2 TB disk.
Is there any way for me to restore my system (I have no system restore points that work, they're all broken, so factory reset) whilst keeping the 1.2 TB of data? Say like, by making a new partition and moving everything into there, and excluding it from the system reset? I don't have any external hard disks, but my laptop has about 400 GB left, so I was thinking I could possibly move my videos and program files from the C: drive to the laptop, somehow merge my D: and E: drive (adding on extra space from the C: drive for the videos and programs), and then perform the system reset on the C: Drive only. Is this possible?
bought a surface pro from a friend yesterday, it had been turned on before I got it so I thought I would reset to factory settings, all was fine until the reset was around 90%, then a box appeared saying "the computer has restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. And I set it to set up as a new PC so that it wouldn't carry over themes or any settings from the previous computer. But as soon as I signed in, it had all of my old settings, themes, and configurations from my old computer.
So how do I set it so that it goes back to all the default settings like a brand new user logging into Windows for the first time?
My icons on 8.1 keep resetting randomly, causing me to have to move my icons back into the positions I like them in. I have them separated across two monitors and in various sections according to what they do.
I am not updating any drivers or doing anything out of the ordinary. Its just at some startups all of my icons are either moved all the way to the right on the right monitor, or they are just simply reset back in order on right monitors (main desktop).

View 4 Replies View RelatedI need to perform a System Refresh against once of my computers. However, when I try to launch the System Refresh option, it claims Windows is missing some files to do so and to insert a Windows installation media or recovery media to claim those files.
Here's the trip-up: I created recovery media on another Windows 8.1 computer and that STILL didn't work (said something about the media not being valid, despite being generated in the same OS). How do I get this to work?
I did do my homework on this issue and apparently having done the Windows 8.1 upgrade through the Windows Store strips out its ability to do a Refresh/Reset unless an ISO is present (of which you don't have one of course because of how you did the upgrade; chicken and egg problem right there). Two of my computers were done as Windows Store upgrades but my Ultrabook was not (for that I did a complicated jig that allowed me to keep all my installed Windows 8.1 Preview software while still moving to the Windows 8.1 final build). However it doesn't seem to matter as even the Ultrabook, despite its unique upgrade path, still fails to start a Refresh (should I want to do one there) so the problem is all over my Windows 8.1 machines.
I have an infected laptop. It has Windows 8 installed.
The problem I'm having is that NO programs will execute, I cannot load "Change PC Settings" so I can't refresh, reset or restore Windows. I have tried the method of holding down SHIFT and restart but to no avail.
I can't load programs from usb/cd before boot but I can in legacy mode and not uefi (not sure what difference that makes).
I have successfully scanned with Kaspersky Rescue Disk 10 in legacy mode but it found nothing? I've also manage to scan again using legacy mode with Malwarebytes but nothing.
I also cant load up the Control Panel, it loads but no icons are showing. Command prompt I can load but not in Administrator.
I had occasion to employ Toshiba to remove some malware from a Toshiba Satellite laptop. Some time later I needed to uninstall an Ap and discovered there was need for a Supervisor password. I am assuming the tech set that up (why?) as I had installed considerable Aps earlier without needing a password. How can I reset the Administrator password to none required?
