Whenever I open links in the win 8 email app, the link opens in the internet explorer app. From the app, I can open the page in desktop view. Now is it possible to have the links open directly into desktop view as that is what I would prefer?

View 6 Replies View RelatedWhen ever I click a mailto link in either Chrome, IE, Firefox and Opera it opens up a new chrome browser window. Before I installed windows 8 I had it opening up Outlook 2010 new email, now it opens up a new Chrome browser window.
How do I change it in windows 8 to when I click a link in any browser to open up Outlook 2010 new email as it did before?
So upgraded to 8.1 from 8.0 in the hope it was more user friendly but no evidence so far but that's not my issue...now when I'm in Internet Explorer if I click on a link or even a webpage...it takes me to a blank screen that tells me to 'check the link'....if I refresh nothing happens but if I go back to the original link or web icon and try again it loads the page (sometimes takes a couple of goes to do it)...also it keeps asking me to 'login' to frequently used things like facebook and my Hotmail account which it never did in the past....when using 8.0 it was all good but nothing but trouble in 8.1.

I have not made any changes recently, and up to a couple of weeks ago they worked okay. I have run virus and spyware checks and tried system restore, but no joy.
Uninstalled and reinstalled Incredimail, but no joy. Made sure file associations are set to open IE11, still no joy.
Win 8.1. As the title says: Why aren't the links in my email messages hyperlinked. I am unable to activate some accounts, because even if I Copy and Paste them they don't work. I am using MS Mail!

I ask because sometimes a picture will pop up, and I'm not sure what folder it came from. It seems like in older windows versions you could right click on the desktop and select "open folder" or something and be taken to the folder holding the picture. Is that still possible?

I have this problem where after starting my PC, logging in and being dropped into the Panel view, I wait for about 10 seconds... and then the PC starts thrashing and constantly flicking between the traditional Desktop and the Panel view without me touching a button / clicking on anything!
The only things I can access on my laptop are:
Task ManagerGoogle Chrome (by clicking on the icon very quickly in Panel View before it flicks back to traditional Desktop)
This problem literally prevents me accessing anything else. As soon as I start opening something in traditional desktop mode, the pc flicks straight back to Panel view and it is lost! Even if I am quick enough to click on an application, it doesn't even load it!
I am almost certain it is some piece of software that I must have picked up along the way. I've been trying to use my Norton antivirus to scan and detect it... but I cannot even open that to scan, due to this very problem.
I even tried using the Trend Micro Home Call service, which I could access through Chrome of course. Unfortunately as soon as I tried downloading it I was told it had failed as there is no access to the internet(!?) very odd indeed.
The Desktop and Character Map icons are not showing in the windows 8 'all apps' view(when I press my win key).
How can I get them back?
Likes to use the Windows 8 Start Screen that has all the tiles on it. Normally, she clicks on the "Mail" icon to get to her email, but now when she clicks on the icon it doesn't go to her email and instead it goes straight to her desktop. I tried clicking another icon; the "weather" one, and it too goes to the desktop. She told me she downloaded a couple games from iWin a few days ago and I noticed a new toolbar in her browser so I tried disabling that, but no change. I've checked what the default browser is, Internet Explorer (what she normally uses). I also tried making Chrome the default browser but still no change.

View 2 Replies View RelatedIf I select a photo from 'Pictures' in File Explorer', right click & select 'Send to: Mail recipient', Mail opens up but only the title of the photo is shown as an attachment, no picture. Even if I click on the title nothing happens. This is the same in 'Outlook' or 'Gmail'. I can send a picture attachment ok by clicking on the 'paperclip' in 'Mail' which then takes me to 'Photos' but I would like to send it from the File Explorer.

... without closing/minimize the metro app? When I'm working with Photoshop I always have my email open because of the meeting notes. The problem I'm having now is that everytime I focus back on Photoshop, the mail app closes/minimizes by itself. The same thing goes with Skype
I know that you can open that tiny multitasking window on the side, but it's just not efficient. Is there a way to remedy this?
Since updating to 8.1 my apps don't open in start screen.. I click on the app..the screen goes directly to the desktop and the blank app screen sits in the desktop tool bar. I can't open any of the programs. I have a Gateway ZX6980 ..
View 1 Replies View RelatedWe have a 10 pc'c 6 of which run XP Pro two of which run Win7 and two run Win 8.1. I have set us all up as a workgroup with homegroup disabled on the two Windows 8 pc's. I have set profiles on the win7 and Windows 8 all to have shared file on, discover devices on and in the advanced sharing set up all setting are share file on/password off etc. All is fine except one of the Windows 8 pc's simply will not show any of the other pc's within the workgroup other than the other Windows 8 pc.

I would like to use the built in side by side app feature but for programs running in the desktop so I can have something like notepad++ or visual studio open on the left side of the screen and have a steam or twitch chat open on the right so I can free up my second monitor for full screen viewing of videos/games/websites. I know I can do this by resizing the windows manually but it is very clunky and harder to manage when I want to close a program or open new applications.

View 4 Replies View RelatedOut of the blue today when I opened PSE 11 and then tried to use it to open a file on my Desktop, it went to sleep. Task Manager showed it "not-responding". Rebooting the computer did not work. After a couple of tries, I waited for 2-3 minutes and it then displayed files on the desktop. I switched the location it was searching, which was Desktop to my photo folder, and everything started working normally. Closed and restarted, and it was fine opening files from my Pictures folder. But, when I switched it to Desktop it went to sleep again for 2-3 minutes. At one point it got a message, which I forget exactly, but basically saying it could not find the file it was searching for??
It seems unique to the Desktop location. The Desktop is part of the operating system (Windows 8.1), and on a SSD. The Pictures folder is on my HDDs. I don't recall making any changes to the setup.
Summary of the symptoms:
1. Only is slow with File, Open, or File, Open As, when the location is the Desktop
2. Operating system (8.1) is on a SSD. Normal file folder is on HDD.
3. Same actions when location is Pictures on HDD is normal.
4. Process Explorer does not seem to detect any activity going on during the "sleeping" mode
I am running Windows 8 Pro, with two USB external drives attached. One drive is "dormant", and the other is used for file backups. I have noticed that when the computer exits from sleep mode, either one or both external USB drive folders will open on the desktop. I can only guess this signifies that these drives may have been accessed while the computer was in sleep mode.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI set up the user account using my Microsoft email account. I would like to use a different password on my desktop vs the email password. My email password since it is accessible via web is strong 16 characters long, random characters password and changed often. I would like to change the desktop password to something I can remember, still strong, but I don't change it as often since you have to get physical access to my desktop.
I assumed once I linked to the Microsoft account I could change the password on the machine without it changing my email password.
Is this not possible? I would prefer not to have to lower the security of my email account just to accommodate Windows 8. Never a problem before as my email clients stored the password.
Are there any official download links (from digital river, etc.) for Windows 8 Pro?
