I have a new laptop with WINDOWS 8. How do I get Windows Live Email on my desktop like I had it in Windows 7 on my desktop?? I don't like the email app on the Start screen. I also need to migrate my email addresses to Live Email. How do I do this?
View 2 RepliesNew Windows 8 machine. Want to keep my POP3 email, so have downloaded Windows Live Mail. WLM receives ok, but will not send. Error screen simply says 'Failed' under Status with no error designation. The WindowsLiveMail.log shows this at the point of the failure: "SMTP [rx] 535 Incorrect authentication data".
Now the weird thing is this: I have a Windows Vista machine running in the same room which also uses Windows Live Mail and it sends just fine. The account properties & settings (ports, checked boxes, login info, etc.) authentication data are identical on both machines.
In addition, the same settings are used in my iPad mail app and it sends just fine. But WLM on Windows 8 just won't send. I have uninstalled WLM and redownloaded it, but the same problem. FYI, my antivirus is Avast, and it is set to not scan outbound mail.
I just wanted to know if there is any app to put Live tiles on desktop...Just like a sidebar.. instead of gadgets, live tiles...

I'm having the same problem, where I deleted the file by accident and now there is no live tile for the desktop anywhere on the start screen, not even in the All Apps category. I can't find it in the Windows Store either. What do I do? Here is a screenshot of the folder that I *think* held the original desktop file.

View 1 Replies View RelatedIf I select a photo from 'Pictures' in File Explorer', right click & select 'Send to: Mail recipient', Mail opens up but only the title of the photo is shown as an attachment, no picture. Even if I click on the title nothing happens. This is the same in 'Outlook' or 'Gmail'. I can send a picture attachment ok by clicking on the 'paperclip' in 'Mail' which then takes me to 'Photos' but I would like to send it from the File Explorer.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI set up the user account using my Microsoft email account. I would like to use a different password on my desktop vs the email password. My email password since it is accessible via web is strong 16 characters long, random characters password and changed often. I would like to change the desktop password to something I can remember, still strong, but I don't change it as often since you have to get physical access to my desktop.
I assumed once I linked to the Microsoft account I could change the password on the machine without it changing my email password.
Is this not possible? I would prefer not to have to lower the security of my email account just to accommodate Windows 8. Never a problem before as my email clients stored the password.

View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I first started this job I was the first user on a new PC with Windows 8. I was asked to set up a Skype account which I did by creating a new Windows Live e-mail since I didn't want to use my personal one for business. I had continual problems with some conflict (I never found but believe it was caused by Skydrive) that caused my Live account to continuously need a password reset. After much frustration I set up a Skype direct account and closed the Live account.
Today I tried to go into the Windows Store to download an app and it's still asking me to log-in with the old, closed Live account. I have literally been sitting here for an hour and a half trying to find a way to log-in to the store with a different user and e-mail. There is nothing. I tried Microsoft live chat support which was really no support at all. I printed out and tried the instructions I found on this site for signing in with a different Microsoft account but it doesn't work as nowhere am I given the option on the screen to sign in with a different account. It shows my Live account with no option to change to another and a password box with the message that too many attempts were made to log-in blah blah blah reset the password. But, the account is closed so this is impossible to do (yes, I even tried that method but it tells me my account is closed).
Microsoft's instructions to do this by managing user accounts does not work as there is no user account on this PC associated with that e-mail address. I log in daily with a local administrator account and the only other account is Guest. I log in to Skype with a Skype (not Live) account. I log into Outlook e-mail with a business/local e-mail account. The Skydrive account is also no longer used as we switched to Dropbox.
I tried doing the instructions to clear the Windows Store cache (run>wsreset.exe) but that did nothing to remove this account.
Any information about how to remove an e-mail account associated with the store, that is no longer a valid/open e-mail account.
How do I disable the setting that prevents Windows Live Family Safety from running on Windows 8? The built-in Family Safety program isn't enough for me since I need to apply it to an administrator account.

The 2 contacts are marked as Favourites and originally come from my Skype account.... how they came to be in my email contacts list.
How I can remove them from my email contacts list without removing them from Skype also.

With Google I managed to import my contacts, but I can't seem to find anything useful for importing email from Outlook to Live. For some reason Roadrunner and Outlook don't work well. I don't have many emails to import but is it possible to import a whole folder? Or do you have to import one at a time. If so, how?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am using Windows 8 on my laptop which uses my Windows Live account to login. Problem is it has suddenly stopped letting me log in and I'm locked out. The message I get is "You can't sign into your PC at the moment. Go to account.live.com to fix the problem or try the last password you used on this PC". I hadn't changed anything which may have made it do this.
I have tried the following but nothing is working:
- Changed my password in my Live account
- Used a previous password
- Plugged my laptop into a network cable rather than using just Wifi
- Rolled my laptop to a previous time
I can't refresh as it needs the password but I can access the command prompt. I'm not knowledgeable on command prompts so not sure what I could do here which might resolve it. I also don't want to lose any files.
I have a question about the Windows 8 Xbox Live games save data. Are they accessible in the computer to backup? If so, where are they stored?
One thing that I really dont like about my WP7 is they keep away any access to the saves and when I had to get my phone replaced I lost all my hard work in them and never bought another xbox live game again cause of it.
I use Windows Live Mail Version 2012 (Build 16.4.3508.0205) on my notebook,which has Windows 8. Quite often it loses read email,and I can't find them in any folder. I do NOT have Hotmail,and never have used Windows Messenger. I have tried deleting and reinstalling Windows Live Mail but the same thing happens with new install. Do I need to delete Windows Live Mail and install different email program? IF so,which windows email program should I use? I have 3 different email accounts that I use.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI installed a copy of Windows 8 Professional. The "Live Tiles" on my new Start screen aren't working. I can click on the Store icon and it comes up, then immediately closes. I've turned off live updating and turned on app locations and all that. It still won't come on.
I've tried it with all my new apps, and none of them work, except for the Maps app.
When I try to run the client, it tells me that there is a connection error, and I should check my internet connection. Well obviously, just the fact that I am able to post this thread shows that my connection is fine. I would like to reinstall the client, but it doesn't even show up in control panel to uninstall it.

I can resolve it by resizing a tile but it cuts off again when i move a tile. Its obviously a bug if you take a look at both screenshots side by side.
If I Right Click on the Photos app on the start menu the option "Turn live tile on/off" is missing. I used Windows 8 before upgrading, and I remember it had the option. I wanted to have a small slideshow of my photo gallery on the live tile.
Other apps (such as mail, weather, store etc) are not missing the option and are working fine. I know that the preview version didn't have this problem.
When I go to customize a live tile, only get 2 choices when resizing (SMALL or MEDIUM).
Most other tiles can be resized in 4 sizes (SMALL,MEDIUM,WIDE,LARGE).
why or how to fix it? Where would I go to control it?
Windows XP did all I ever needed. Heck! Windows 2000 did all I ever needed. I use the phone only as a phone. But I do need email.

Thrashing around with Windows 8.1, now that XP has gone off support. Set up a Windows account xxxxxxxxx@outlook.com.
Still not understanding the difference between 'live.com' and 'outlook.com', but I am able to access email on both these accounts by login with a browser.
But I do not work my email through a browser. I use Thunderbird, and preview with MailWasher Pro to purge any junk from the server.
After over an hour thumping around, have not been able to get Thunderbird or MailWasher to work either the 'live' or 'outlook' account. Maybe problem with pop and smtp addresses. Beginning to think Microsoft allows only working the mail through a browser.
The email account which I actually use, and depend heavily upon, is tied to my ISP. Am considering change of ISP, and therefore a change to a non-isp linked email - like gmail or outlook. BUT... if I can't get Windows emails working except through the browser or phone, Windows email is of no practical use to me.

I have Windows 8 and use classic live Messenger 2012, it connects good but all contacts appear offline, trough Windows 8 messaging all contacts ok, connected and talking.
I tried with built in Windows 8 messaging application connected and disconected but same result. If I connect to other account with live Messenger 2012 all works ok, but with the account that is configured like Windows 8 logging account, don't, it connects but all contacts shown offline.
Due to space limited on my Ativ PC500T, I would link to save Windows live mail to my external 64GB MicroSD. Under Windows live mail options, mail, advanced tab, maintenance, store folder, change... When I browse to my MicroSD card, the "Ok" button is grayed out.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have upgraded from Windows 8 to 8.1. After doing so and making sure my accounts are all setup, I have found that I can not get the mail tile to act "live". I have verified it is set to live by right-clicking and seeing that link state "turn live tile off". I tried doing that and then turning it back on. I have tried rebooting. But the tile just isn't live. My other live tiles (news, finance, weather, store, etc) all seem to be live. It is only mail that I am having a problem with.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen you try to delete WLM messages you get this error
"An unknown error has occurred" and the message cannot be deleted.
People with this problem, often need to delete multiple messages or entire folders. That error appears because WLM only thinks it has that/those message(s), but actually that message is nowhere to be found in the the Windows email folders. The message exists no longer, but WLM still shows it as being in its own folders and you simply cannot delete it using the normal procedure.
For the easier way, one can drag the unwanted and non-existing emails to the Deleted Items folder, one by one. However, that is crazy when you have to get rid of hundreds or thousands of them (yes, I had that situation!).
This is how to trick WLM if you want to delete multiple emails giving you that error:
1. We try to simulate forwarding multiple messages. Select multiple emails by clicking on one and then using SHIFT to click and select multiple concatenated messages. Do that screen after screen (scroll down/up). Stop when you see the FORWARD button has become grey. That means one email is even more stubborn and doesn't even want to be forwarded.
2. Hold the SHIFT key and click the messages up and down until you find the culprit. It will be just outside your selection, when your selection manages to un-grey the Forward button.
3. With a lot of messages selected and concatenated, click on the Forward button. You'll get another error message "One or more messages could not be attached. Select OK to continue creating the note." Click Cancel.
4. Now something has unblocked those messages (or message information) and, with the selection on, you can Delete them by simply clicking the Red X (delete) button.
5. The message that made the Forward button grey, can now be deleted as well.
6. Keep doing that until you finish the bunch of messaged you wanted to delete when you got the initial error.
