Can't figure out why my HP laptop restarts when woken up from sleep. Under Windows 7, it worked fine. But not with Windows 8. I have played with all the settings in power configuration. Have changed from having a screensaver to none. Makes no difference. All my drivers are up to date. I do not have HP power management installed. Windows takes care of my power management. And still, it won't resume correctly.
View 9 RepliesThis is a strange issue that started happening to me a few weeks ago. On my laptop, I put the computer to sleep, then close the lid. To wake it up, I just open the lid. Recently, about 1/4 of the time I wake up my computer, the lock screen does not appear, but instead it seems that my computer crashes then restarts. I don't have any USB devices plugged into my laptop, just the power cord.
View 1 Replies View Relatedhow to use it but my problem is when i shrink my C drive and extend it to D drive, my laptop restarts to EaseUS boot mode. when it is around 90% of loading my laptop went to hibernate and when i turn it on again, the EaseUS boot mode says it completed its processing, or whatever it is. i'm afraid that it will harm my hard drive that i didn't see it to complete, will it?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded my laptop, an HP g6-1b60us from Win 7 to Win 8Pro. All works fine, except when the Laptop wakes up from sleep. It has to reboot. Knowing that the HP POwer Manager was not compatible, I had uninstalled it. That still didn't resolve the problem. I finally ran a power efficiency diagnostics report. It's 6pages long, but in the end, different usb items prevent the laptop from entering sleep/suspend state. I only recognize one of them.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have about a week experience (pulled out some hair) with windows 8/8.1, but I consider myself pretty comfortable with Windows in general.
When my Windows 8.1 laptop is in sleep mode, I can wake it with a mere touch of my external bluetooth k/b without any issues, as long as the lid is opened. If I close the lid, I can continue to use it as its connected to a big Samsung plasma tv. But if I let the laptop go to sleep (or put it to sleep myself thru the menu), I am unable to wake it back; I need to pull it out from a/v furniture, open the lid and press the power button.
Is this a Windows 8 thing, an Acer Aspire thing, or worse it can't be done? Able to wake from sleep their Windows 8 laptop w/closed lid?
I have a Dell Inspiron 17R 5737, running Windows 8.1.
my laptop does not go to sleep or hibernate. each time I close the lid, or press the power button it seems that it forcefully shut down or go to sleep/hibernate and then shuts down immediately "the shut down screen does not appear". When i start the laptop opening the lid/ pressing the button, it starts as if it were properly shut down.
I am aware of the options that I can adjust for sleep/ hibernate/ or shut down, when the lid is closed/ the power button pressed. the problem also exists when giving a "Sleep/ hibernate" order from the start menu.
I have updated the Bios " whatever that does", and several other drivers. I have tried running a "PowerCfg -energy" test on the command prompt, " several people mentioned that by using this test the found a driver that is requesting the computer to not sleep, but i found no such errors. i ran a few tests on Dell.com to check for any problems but everything seems OK.
Also, when the laptop is sitting idle for a while and it goes automatically for sleep, it does not wake up by moving mouse/ clicking on the power button, I have to shut it down by holding the power button, then press it again to turn it on.
As I remember the problem first appeared after updating the windows from 8.0 to 8.1.
When I'm idle for several minutes my laptop will go to sleep by itself
power settings are all switched to never (never go to sleep, never dim screen etc)
Screensaver set to none with maximum possible waiting time
battery is full with charger plugged in
BSOD while putting the laptop on sleep

I've clean installed windows 8.1 pro vl x64 in my laptop (Windows Media Center is not installed of course). and activated successfully with KMSmicro 5.0.1. Windows is fully updated.
I have this problem: it wakes unexpectedly from sleep at either 04:00 or 05:00 at night.

The following is what I've tried so far based on these two links:

1a. Go to Device Manager - Select each keyboard and mouse device and right-click Properties - Go to the Power Management tab and untick "Allow this device to wake the computer".
1b. Double checked the above for my onboard ethernet network card
2. Checked in Task Scheduler and no active task is set to allow to "wake the computer to run this task" having such launch time.
3. Checked in Automatic Maintenance and "Allow scheduled maintenance to wake up my computer at the scheduled time" is disabled.

I have an ASUS laptop (N53Jq, i7, GT425M, 8GB) with Windows 8.1, with update. It's being used like a desktop computer, with the lid closed connected to a monitor through HDMI and with mouse and keyboard. I have the Power4Gear Hybrid driver, to set the high performance mode in my PC, but after awhile it still goes into sleep mode (like 1 or 2 minutes). It's really weird, I checked every setting (on the driver app and control panel) and sleep mode is off everywhere.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a Lenovo u410 Ultrabook with an odd problem that began 3-4 months ago that I've been unable to resolve.
Whenever the laptop resumes from sleep mode it forces a complete restart and fails to create a dump file. I have verified that windows is set to create dump files and if I force a crash in some other way I will get a dump file but when it crashes when trying to resume my minidumps folder remains empty.
As far as I can tell it enters sleep mode fine and it's not until it tries to resume that the reboot is triggered. When the problem began I was on Windows 8 and since then have upgraded to 8.1 ... The laptop was able to sleep normally for the first 2-3 months I had it.
Things I have tried so far:
-Installing all the official drivers from the Lenovo support website.
- Running system file checker.
-Running the Microsoft Safety Scanner.
-Sleeping with no peripheral devices connected, tried both while running on AC and battery.
-Removing and re-seating the memory.
-Refreshing windows (I haven't tried a complete reset yet, hoping to avoid that if I can).
In event viewer I get the following error and critical event each time after it reboots:

I am attaching the results of the "Grab All" in the SF Diagnostic Tool right after a reboot. Other than sleep mode not functioning the laptop appears to be running normally without any problems.
I have an Insipron 17R, core i5 zm2410, NVIDIA Geforce 525m, win8 64bit and I'm experiencing a problem with the hibernation/sleep mode.
About 2 weeks ago my laptop went to hibernation mode after beeing in sleep mode for 2 hours while on battery (to advoid full battery drain).
Now it doesn't do it anymore but stays in sleep mode for the whole time and drains the battery.
I usually detach the power cable from the laptop over night because of the noise from the power adapter and the laptop always hibernated after beeing in sleep mode. I went over the configuration in power options and power plans, and even reseted and configured them again, without success.
The only changes that were made to the system are the important windows updates...

View 9 Replies View RelatedDon't think my OS was backed up since I was using the Home Premium version, but any recovery of files data and/or GNU licensed programs will be extremely useful.
My camper van was broken into and the OEM support disks are gone as well. Used the standard MS back up procedure on an external usb disk drive. The latter is back home, which I could FedEx to where I'm staying for the winter.
After I updated to windows 8.1 two things happened:
1-The laptop can't exit sleep mode.....it either restarts or stops working (with the screen off and the power light on) every time I try to exit sleep mode. i haven't been able to solve this problem.
2- When the screen turn off after leaving the laptop idle for a while it won't turn on....this happened after I installed the latest AMD display driver from the AMD website......I managed to solve the problem by downgrading to the AMD driver version provided on the dell website.......sadly this driver causes lagging in games on the contrast of the version provided on the AMD website.
how to alter the time period before a computer running Windows 8 switches into "Sleep" or "Hibernate" mode. I find the default time period to be too short in practice - it is very frustrating to answer a brief phone call and then return to the computer only to find it has dropped into one or other of these states!
View 5 Replies View RelatedRunning Win 8 Pro, 64bit. I recently installed an upgrade of my BIOS. At first it took several tries to boot into Windows. That is now solved. What remains is the fact that when I wakeup the system from sleep, it only displays the pre-login screen (greenish, with the tower). It freezes right there. Thinking this might be a display driver issue, I updated it (Radeon HD 6480G). That didn't fix the problem. On some forum I read about a SAM file. My question is: How does it find it when I reboot, but not when the system goes from sleep to wake up? At any rate, how could that be fixed? Also, I don't know how to revert back to a former version of my BIOS. My laptop has an Insyde board, and it went to version F.48, what ever that means.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI do a lot of computer animation, and I am often wanting to set off a render overnight, where the computer thinks hard about turning wireframe triangles into pretty pictures.
Problem is I was waking up to find that my render had not proceed very far at all, and gone to sleep. If I go to power settings and tell it to 'Never Sleep' then my render makes it all the way through.
But I don't want to be a sweatshop labor boss and never let my sweet worker bee get any sleep. I want it to work till it finishes the render, and then go to sleep. That's how it used to work on my old Win XP box.
Is there a way I can set sleep to say, only kick in if cpu usage is below a certain percent?
When I first installed Windows 8 my system used to go to sleep after 30 minutes of inactivity and then resume on pressing any key. Recently, without any apparent changes to settings, it will not resume and the power button has to be actioned requiring a loggin. what setting controls all of this. I also am confused by difference between sleep and hibernate!
