View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a new XPS8700. I have been unable to download the Windows 8.1 upgrade from the MS Store. My first problem was a lack of Windows updates, which I did, and now I can see the 8.1 upgrade in the store. I can also download updates to other aps.
My remaining problem is a continual notice every time I hit download that I need to first log into an account with admin access. Best I can tell, this and other forums have shown me how to add Admin capability with the Command prompt. I even created a second account and did the same thing. Within the User Summary screen within control panel, both Users show "administrator". Yet I still cannot get access
I have tried "net user administrator /active:yes" as well as tried same with swapping my name for administrator
The actual "administrator" user cannot do anything within the App Store. That appears to be what is supposed to happen.
I'm another user with the same situation, it did not work, the direct download stated, does not work with this system.

It tells me that i am not connected to the internet when i am clearly connected to it. My internet is through router and it works fine; i can access my browser just surfing the web. When I open a pdf file, my files are getting opened as a tiff file. This is making it difficult to cut and paste. This started happening to my computer after the Windows 8.1 download. I tried to uninstall 8.1 but created even more problems. Got everything back to normal, but the tiff files opening.

Normally, on my windows XP pro, when I did this, the print was normal size, if I can say that. Usually it was a "fit-to-page" thing. I couldn't see a way to download the file and make any modifications. Also, in the past I was using Adobe Reader program. Wondering what program windows 8.1 is using and if I need to download and install the Adobe program and somehow set it as the default program.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm running Windows 8.1 (standard/ home edition) and can't download a couple .exe files. I get "You'll need to provide administrator permission to copy to this folder". errors. I'm the only user on this computer and have administrator access.
The file resides on mediafire and via my ipad I was able to manage to transfer it to dropbox, but I still get the same error. The filename (partial) is created but no further downloading is done.
I can't take ownership of the file-- it doesn't exist on my computer yet.
I can't change the local security policy (I understand this is only available in Win 8 Pro version).
UAC is already disabled as much as I can figure (via the slider set to never notify).
Short of setting up a super admin account (would this even work?)
i cant seem to run any app related to gaming whatsoever. Per example steam app, league of legends, any other game i have, battle net desktop app. In the steam and battle net desktop apps i click the launcher and it opens the small window (Updtaing steam or updating battle net) and when its done nothing happens. As for games i click the launcher and nothing happens. I've tried launching admin, on a different account, re installing everything nothing works.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently converted to Windows 8(.1) from 7. When I had seven I'd play games in windowed (borderless) mode and tab out to my other monitor. It left behind a taskbar at the bottom overlaying the game I was previously on. I found this actually kinda useful. Now in Windows 8 it only shows if I tab to a program on the same monitor as the game, and not if I tab to a program on my other monitor. Is there any way to change this?
View 2 Replies View RelatedOk so for the past few days windows 8 game app acts like its logged in but i don't get my friends list or my avitar and when i click on friends it says can't connect to xbox?, why is it looking for a xbox i havent had one those in a number of years. it use to work just fine i could chat with my friends and so forth see my gamer score and so on and now it just says can't connect to xbox? I can sign in threw the fable 3 game but it uses games for windows live and not the xbox game app on windows 8.

When/if a full screen game or 3d stuff hangs up, on windows 7 you can open the task manager (by any means, ctrlshift esc, or ctrl alt sup, or alt tab and right click task bar)and end the process, but on windows 8 the games keeps some kind of lock on the desktop and i can't kill the process because i can't get focus on the task manager...
I can see the task bar, i can alt tab, and with alt tab i can see what's going on the rest of the windows, but i can't input anything on them, except on metro apps and start screen, so i can't access the task manager and kill the app.
When something like that happened on win 7, you could still open the task manager above the game and end it
I have to log off and log on in order to kill the application...

I seem to keep having random BSOD'S on windows startup showing a Kernal_Security_Check_Failure and in event viewer it is showing as Bug_Check_Code 313, what is causing this.
I also seem to be randomly getting BSOD'S while either exiting/starting a game or loading up Unity (Game engine).
As stated in the instructions above I have used the SF_Diagnostic_Tool and have attached the contents to this post.
Ever since last night any game I try to open, whether it be an online one on steam or battlenet or an offline one experiences major lag during menu, loading and in game if im lucky to enter. Diablo III took 6 tries before i managed to enter the game where the lagging persisted. Rust and Killing floor major lags i couldnt even enter a game and servers wouldnt open. Fallout 3 on my computer would crash every time. Age of Empires II couldnt open past the windowed menu selection, Saints Row the Third stuck on loading screen. Oblivion wouldnt open due to first time set up DivX failing. Mirrors edge would experience Application load error p: 0000065432.
Im including a DxDiag, SFC Scan result which shows corrupt files unable to be fixed.
