Mar 5, 2014I recently purchased a new computer equipped with Windows 8.1. It has a different way to show files and folders than every previous Windows OS I have worked with in the past. I use a lot of folders and have thousands of files. In the past, folders were always on top no matter how I organized it, which made it easy to go through several folders in order to find the document I need. In Windows 8 it's different.
When I organize in Details by date modified, newest to oldest, I want folders to be on top. Right now, folders are ALWAYS at the bottom. The only way to get folders on the top is if I organize oldest to newest. It's the same thing if I organize alphabetically. If it's ascending A-Z, folders are on the bottom. If it's descending Z-A, folders are on the top. This makes no sense to me and is not intuitive. Why would I only want folders at the top if I'm going counter-alphabetically or oldest to newest?
It means that I ALWAYS have to scroll in order to find the most recent folder I've used, even if I sort by date modified. That's a tremendous hassle when working with dozens of folders. Even when the folders are on the top of the screen, they're only on top if I've organized Z-A or Oldest to Newest. Which means that if I need to find a folder that starts with A, I either have to organize it A-Z and then scroll all the way down to get to the folders, or I have to organize it Z-A and STILL scroll down because the folders on top start with Z.
Any way to go back to the previous method, and if not why Windows would change it to such a counter intuitive model. I work with hundreds of documents daily.
Download First Pdf File - How To Adjust Print
Apr 21, 2014I downloaded my bank statement today and printed same. Print came out pretty small. Normally, on my windows XP pro, when I did this, the print was normal size, if I can say that. Usually it was a "fit-to-page" thing. I couldn't see a way to download the file and make any modifications. Also, in the past I was using Adobe Reader program. Wondering what program windows 8.1 is using and if I need to download and install the Adobe program and somehow set it as the default program.

Having removed filters from the report, it looks like the files are there, but not where they are expected to be (am I correct with this interpretation?).

Jul 27, 2014When I use Explorer on Windows 8.1 to copy multiple FLAC files to a folder on the SD card of my Nokia Lumia 625 (running on Windows Phone 8.1) via USB, a dialog window pops up in Explorer, asking me to choose between converting and just copying. If I choose to just copy, a progress bar appears, and it always gets stuck at the end of the first file transfer so I have to cancel or close the progress window, and, as a result, only the first file is transferred. If I copy a single FLAC file instead of multiple ones, the same thing happens at the end of the file transfer. So I am forced to copy the files one at a time, and I have to close the popup window for each of them. Is there any way to solve this?

Can't Download EXE File - Provide Administrator Permission To Copy To This Folder
Jun 10, 2014I'm running Windows 8.1 (standard/ home edition) and can't download a couple .exe files. I get "You'll need to provide administrator permission to copy to this folder". errors. I'm the only user on this computer and have administrator access.
The file resides on mediafire and via my ipad I was able to manage to transfer it to dropbox, but I still get the same error. The filename (partial) is created but no further downloading is done.
I can't take ownership of the file-- it doesn't exist on my computer yet.
I can't change the local security policy (I understand this is only available in Win 8 Pro version).
UAC is already disabled as much as I can figure (via the slider set to never notify).
Short of setting up a super admin account (would this even work?)

If I was chatting on Skype I would enable my headset and disable my speakers and vice versa. However, there is no option, I have chcked for Disconnected and Disabled devices and still no luck, it's not a USB but more just pink and green colour coded jacks?

I listed all the volumes using DiskPart utility and it showed me some hidden ones, as expected. What I want to do now is to explore the hidden volumes' contents, and retrieve the drivers from there if possible. But the problem is, I don't know how to list the contents of those volumes. I could've used DIR command if they were accessible through the letters, but unfortunately they don't have any letters associated with them. how I can list the contents of the hidden volumes.

Jun 11, 2013When trying to print from Devices "charm" in Microsoft Reader, my default printer is not shown. It shows up in Printers on the desktop. Reader does show, however, a fax version of my printer, which is NOT installed. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the printer....no change.
I'm using a HP Officejet 7310 printer, which has the most current driver, and works in all other Windows apps.
