Hardware Drivers :: Windows 8.1 - Simple Way To Find Motherboard Model
Sep 15, 2014
I just installed W 8.1 recently. It's having incompatibility issues with my Patriot ram stick. I contacted Patriot and they want my motherboard model. Problem is I can't find my motherboard model on 8.1
I looked for system information but they removed it. I'm going to all these sites that lead me to downloading these third party apps I don't even trust to find it.
Why exactly they removed system information? It was a very useful and easy tool to go to find information on your CPU. It seems like I'm one of the few who have that issue since I see only a few complaining about it though.
Anyway, I need to find motherboard model without disassembling my PC.

I was reading that your Intel motherboard drivers should be updated. I watched the video and it seemed so easy. It said you can run it even if your mobo is not Intel with no harm done. The target to do so is below.
I am only an average pc user. Is updating the mobo drivers as important as was being stressed and is it a rather fool proof procedure.

I have an Asus P5QL VM DO montherboard in my homemade PC. This is an older system that I use for testing, so I put my Windows 8 install on it. Unfortunately, the Asus driver installation CD will not run in Win 8, and I am missing one driver which I am unable to locate anywhere. It is for the PCI Simpe Communications Controller.

7stacks is a neat little program that tries to bring Mac OS's "Stacks" to windows. this is also an excellent way of making a rudimentary start menu that allows you to access programs.
Steps:
1. install 7stacks. there's no shovelware, and you can skip "create shortcut on desktop, because it'll ask you if you want to launch on completeion.
2. Enter data as shown, note the folder path and that the icon path is a little different. That path will lead to the main applications menu, which should work fine as long as you install applications so everyone can access.
3. click on the ellipses button after the icon path, which will bring up this window:
you actually have two icons to chose from, the one that is highlighted and the blue Windows 8 logo on the top. I prefer the older version myself, so that is what I used
4. Click "create shortcut on desktop," then pin to taskbar and move to the far left.
5. There you go. Feel free to tweak as desired. If you want, you can create a custom folder somewhere that has everything arranged to your liking. You can also create shortcuts to common functions such as sleep, shutdown, logoff, etc but I haven't looked yet how to do that.

How can I find express cache drivers for Windows 8.1 ? I've been searching for long time but cannot find any. I assume it's already installed with Windows or what? I just want to use my SSD(24GB) as an express cache. I have an Ideapad y410p.
Sometimes my SSD disappears like unplugged from the system or shutdown itself, why this is happening?

I have a new internal HDD. When I first put Windows 8 OS on it I needed to disconnect my External HDD because I was getting the error (don't quote this):
"Can't find operating system. Disconnect any drive that doesn't not have an operating system."
It booted fine when I disconnect the External HDD.
It stopped doing this until today. I need to disconnect it when IU reboot.
I believe I ejected the External by mistake and tha6t5 screwed everything up again.
I entered the BIOS and I don't see the External HDD there. Only my internal and my cd/dvd drive. It currently looks for an OSA on the cd/dvd first.

I have purchased from a local electronics store, an after market HDD drive housing to enable me to use a surplus 450GB IDE hdd from a now defunct computer.
Once assembled I plugged it in ( it comes with its own power pack , and uses a USB cable to connect to the computer)
Windows 8 knows it is there and installed a driver called - USB to IDE bridge. there the problem starts
I am unable to see the drive in explorer or anything . either as a mass storage device or an external drive.
Do I have to register the drive or anything , and if so how - shouldnt Windows 8 do this automatically ?? I have another HDD ( more modern one ) and windows see's that straight away.

I'm not sure how far reaching this is but I just noticed that when I select a folder and type a file name in the search bar on the right of the address bar, files are found on my backup drive, which is attached by USB to the PC, this drive is attached because it contains other partitions for file storage.
The folder in this case was on the desktop and it shows that it is on C: Drive, but files were found on the H: Drive which is where I run my backup to.
When I un-attach the H drive the files found do not respond to left or right click.

I was reading online that Windows 8 will just reinitialize itself if you make any significant hardware changes. Kind of like what it did during the first install/boot.
So because of this I had not backed anything up (it's all replaceable I just would really rather not set everything up again).
The message I'm getting at startup is "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key"
Windows 8 is installed on my Vertex2 SSD which is being recognized by the bios along with my other drives. I ensured that the SSD was selected as first boot device which it was and disabled the other ones for giggles. Still nothing.
Why won't it boot? I didn't change anything other than the motherboard

Client with advent DT2412 failed motherboard. old motherboard MSI B75M A-P45 (discontinued). replaced with Gigabyte GA-B75M-D3H Socket 1155 M-ATX Motherboard.
Client confirms no backup and insisting that I we try not to lose data. Managed to get the desktop up and running as same chipset on new mobo. client now complaining that computer drops out randomly. I've asked the client to back up there data and stated that we will have to complete a fresh re-install due to possible driver issues.
If we run the factory reset disks from advent will it not load the same chipset and drivers for the MSI? thus causing it to drop out again? If I install a fresh copy of windows 8 where do i get the product key from?

Right now I have an asus h61-le-CSM motherboard with EFI; it's a little older with a i3 2120 processor. On Friday I'm upgrading to a Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD5H with a i7 processor.
Right now, I have windows 8 installed. I believe I purchased the upgrade version, although the receipt from microsoft in my e-mail has no mention of the word upgrade, it just says Windows 8 Pro. I am going to want to do a clean install with this stuff which I am capable of doing, however I don't know what I need to do to keep Windows. Will I be ok just re-entering my key?

However the Asus download site for this board does not list Win 8 as compatible OS - only up to Win 7.

I recently built my 1st gaming PC (Intel Core i7-3770, EVGA GeForce GTX 770, NZXT Phantom 240 - System Build - PCPartPicker Canada) , and had a couple problems with the display while the GPU (GeForce GTX 770) was plugged into the motherboard (MSI Z77A G41) which then I fixed... or so I thought... I got it to work through the motherboard, so now the display works on the monitors and I can start up the computer and install drivers for the GPU and see that the computer recognizes it in "Devices Manager" panel, but as soon as I plug the VGA connector into the GPU it shows no display once again... literally nothing, the light in the monitor just starts flashing after a while...
I have tested 2 different monitors which gave me the same result, and I tried playing the the BIOS around but did not find anything that fixed the problem... so my question is does my GPU work even if it shows no display when I connect the VGA connector into the graphics card? If I was to install a game would I be able to run it at high settings or would it run in the integrated graphics card (Intel HD 4000)...
I made a post before about the problem that I had before this, which was that the graphics card did not show display at all when plugged into the mother board... [URL] ....
