In the manager, it shows that i have H drive working, but i cant find it in My computer.., i can only get into the local disk H through the disk manager.,

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm not sure how far reaching this is but I just noticed that when I select a folder and type a file name in the search bar on the right of the address bar, files are found on my backup drive, which is attached by USB to the PC, this drive is attached because it contains other partitions for file storage.
The folder in this case was on the desktop and it shows that it is on C: Drive, but files were found on the H: Drive which is where I run my backup to.
When I un-attach the H drive the files found do not respond to left or right click.

When I click on my computer, the various drives I have connected show up in the main panel, but when I click on any of them (Icons for any drives), I get the error message: "The file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action.....".
However, in the left side panel, if I click on any of the drives, I have access to them.
I have a hard drive I used as a backup on my old Win XP computer. I tried to install it on my new Win 8 64 bit computer. At first the new computer booted but no second drive visible. I then rebooted to find the BIOS and the machine came up with "Computer needs Repair". I removed the second drive and the newer computer is running OK.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI want to partition my C Drive to install Ubuntu 14.04 so I can dual-boot with Windows 8.1. When I tried to shrink the volume it wouldn't let me got higher than 4GB even though its a 500GB drive and I have over 259GB free. From looking at it the drive seems to have a few recovery partitions one being just under 24GB. Does the number of drive partitions factor into the amount of space I can give to a partition. Also if the recovery partitions are factoring into this can I move them to another drive or just outright delete them.

I had windows 7 Installed in it, and later I installed windows 8.1 in drive C. right now I am using windows 8.1 and I have also deleted some important system files that were in drive D, so windows 7 is not usable, and I don't want to use it.

When I plug in my drive, it shows up in with all of my other drives, and when I double click it to open it, the explorer window freezes, and doesn't unfreeze until I unplug the flash drive. I don't know what went wrong. Maybe it is a driver issue? I am positive that the drive is fine, because it works on my laptop, and even works on this computer in a linux virtual machine.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a xbox that I have used (successfully, for about a year) as an extender for WMC 8. Im not sure what I did, but I am now unable to connect to my HTPC running win 8.1 pro. I have tried everything that even sniffs of a solution but I still get the error "unable to find extender". I can use the xbox to watch Hulu, Netflix but no WMC. My PC sees my xbox, however when I try to "test PC connection" thru the xbox System Settings/Network Settings/Test PC Connection I get, "network connected" - OK, then "PC Not Listed". I cant access my PC from the xbox "video player" either.
Ive tried all the popular fixes, turned off firewall, enabled extender services -- only to have them mysteriously disabled as soon as I attempt the extender setup process. Same mysterious disabling of the "Media Center Extenders" checked box in the "Allowed apps to communicate through Windows Firewall". Ive addressed all the sharing issues I can find, still nothing.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an Asus S200E and I had been messing with linux and trying to install it alongside windows 8.1 with no joy.After a while I gave up but i've had a few issues with my laptop and wanted to either refresh or reset it.
When I try to refresh I get a message saying that the drive is locked and when I try to reset I am told the recovery partition is missing. I guess I must have done something when attempting to install linux that has caused this problem however when I open up the partition manager the recovery partitions are all still there.
I bought a new laptop with a Windows 8 Pro x64 pre-installed on it.
Then I upgraded my OS to Windows 8.1 Pro from Windows Store.
After that I thought I'd create a backup of my system so I don't have to re-download the Windows 8.1 upgrade and at the same time having the option to reset my laptop to it's old operating system in case I want to, so that being said, I created a system image backup using Windows' Imaging Utility and pointed it my external drive. It took a couple of minutes and the image was successfully created.
I double checked the image file and I can see it on my external drive saved in a folder called 'WindowsImageBackup'. The backup files is approximately around 35 GB.
I also tried using the System Image Recovery option from BIOS to check whether the backup file I created really works, and it did because it was recognized by the system through the dialog box "Re-image your computer".
My mind was set that if anything bad happens to may laptop, whether if it got infected with a virus or the operating system crashed or even if the hard disk gets broken I could simply put it back to it's previous state using the backup image I created. So I played with the partitioning of my laptop, I even installed other operating systems for educational purposes, but when I finally wanted to bring my laptop to its previous state I failed...
The System Image Recovery from BIOS that once recognized my backup image throw an error at me saying the 'Windows cannot find a system image on this computer'. How can I fix this error? Is there still a way to recover my laptops previous installed OS or is it gone for good?...
1. Download bootable USB 3.0 drivers and tried to load the drivers on the during System Image Recovery. I think I got that tutorial here in this forum also but not sure, anyways it says that my external hard disk might not properly load because windows does not support usb 3.0.
2. I tried installing macrium free to re-image the vhd files from my backup image and tried to use the new image created by macrium to backup from. Re-imaging and backing up from the macrium image is successful but when I restart my laptop to check whether the backup works, I got an error saying 'Your PC needs to be repaired... Error code: 0x0000225'. I boot from my rescue disk and open up the command prompt to run a command like 'bootrec /scanos' but the result says detected windows installation is zero (0)...
The problem is that I can't install the .NET Framework 3.5 on my Windows 8.1 because when i try to install it, appears:
"Can't install the following feature: .NET Framework 3.5
Can't find the specified file. Error: 0x80070002"
The same if i download the dotNetFx35setup.exe setup from Microsoft Website. I tried also in other 2 ways suggested here (Installazione di .NET Framework 3.5 in Windows 8) :
- In Control Panel -> Programs -> Enable or disable Windows Features -> .NET Framework 3.5 but i receive the same error
- I insert Windows 8 DVD in the D: Unit and i type in the prompt command this code:

But I receive this error:

Yesterday, after many, many problems with my computer, I finally decided to reinstall Windows 8.1 Pro onto my ASUS X200CA netbook. However, after backing up and reinstalling the OS, I found that when I tried to disable "Launch CSM" in my BIOS, all of my boot options would disappear and my laptop would continually boot into my BIOS. When I re-enabled "Launch CSM", the boot options would reappear - however, it had not included the "Option #1 - Windows Boot Manager" that I had seen in my other installation.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just bought a new computer with W8 installed. This is a big step from XP that I've been running for quite a while. I had two drives (both 500Gb) in the old box, and I'd like to use them in the new. When I try the old drive with boot tracks as an internal - the new box has three spaces for HDD internally - the computer won't even boot. Once I remove the drive everything is back to normal. I have a USB3 external drive case that I installed the same drive in, and, although W8 recognizes I have a USB3 device connected, it's as if there's nothing inside. I've tried doing what I'm told in Devices and Printers (right-click, etc.) but still nothing. The one thing I do see is "Drive E:" in a shaded box to the right of the description, but I can't click on it. Since the drive has five drive assignments (C: through G, I would think whatever happens those assignments would show up in a description of the drive. I don't get anything. I would think as long as I don't try to boot from the old drive (via boot from external, etc) the boot tracks on the drive would not have any meaning - right?
I would like to be able to use some of the software I've downloaded in the past and installed on the XP computer. That's the main reason for trying to use the drive. All the software I downloaded is located in one of the virtual drives (G, and I want to copy off those that are of value to me now.
two days ago my friend D:/ drive was formatted by someone. and he says that i was the last person using after that format he has seen.i havent done that. i want to is there a way to find the last format date and time of drive . event viewer or any log or any software.
