View 9 RepliesI have problem with USB 2.0. The problem first begin with app called (zadig.exe) under options i click List all devices.
I think by mistake i change of the drives after that the USB 2.0 stop working. I have USB 3.0 and its fine. The USB 2.0 can charge my phone and the mouse can work in BIOS ONLY. After going to Win 8 is stop working but it will charge my phone.
To me, this is a huge oversight on Microsoft's part. Imagine being able to boot up your PC, go to Metro, then fire up Steam big picture mode and play your games without ever needing to touch your mouse and keyboard (except, of course, if you are playing an FPS or RTS :3 )
I don't get why this is not supported. It is just such a massive oversight. When I hit the Xbox logo on my controller I would want my PC to switch to Metro mode and allow the navigation of my PC using the thumbsticks, D-pad and face buttons.
Microsoft are trying to be very universal about their devices. Xbox, Zune, Windows, they are trying to get everything into one interface and one brand, so why is the Xbox Controller not supported with Windows for navigational purposes?
Why does every new O/S decide to remove undesired drivers and software? Same thing happened when moving from XP to Vista, and once you had Vista you sure had to get out of it!
Win 8 Pro N has physically deleted 3 multimedia controller drivers;
1. Type: Other unit, Mfg: Unknown, Location: PCI-bus 1, unit 0, function 0
2. Type: Other unit, Mfg: Unknown, Location: PCI-bus 1, unit 2, function 0
3. Type: Other unit, Mfg: Unknown, Location: On Microsoft ACPI-compliant system
Also, why hasn't Microsoft Fixit 50548 been adapted for Win 8 (i e possibillity to print picture or graphics to printer by right-clicking on file, then left-klick on Print on Menu that appeared. Also works to list contents of a drive on a printer output.
This evening I went to use by portable USB drive and noticed it wouldn't work. I tried another port and it still didn't work. I then tried another device on the same ports and it also did not work.
I opened up device manager and saw that my VIA USB xHCI controller was no longer listed under USB controllers. I turned on Show Hidden Devices and it then appeared as a hidden device. I attempted to re-install the drivers for it but the installer wouldn't run because it said it didn't detect the hardware on the system.
I last used the ports 2 nights ago and didn't have any problem then. I thought the problem may have been caused by the Windows updates I installed today so I uninstalled them all, but the USB controller still doesn't work.

My Windows 8 laptop for a couple of months now hasn't been able to be used without being taken off the charger. When I click on the battery icon, it says that battery 1 is on 1% whilst battery 2 is 'not present'. It started on 60% power when this started but has gradually been decreasing every time I turn the computer off, until it is on 1%. I've tried changing the power plan but this hasn't worked...
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am running windows 8 pro wmc on my HP laptop. One month ago I have bought a new battery. From last one week, when I start my laptop it shows that "plugged it, not charging". When I shut down down, it started charging the battery. After a full charge, my laptop performs good and battery worked for almost more than 2 hours.
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy Windows 8.1 installation started developing some problems including malware. So I decided to reinstall Windows, but in order to make it without a hurry, I used a separate disk. This way I could use the old installation for everyday work until the new installation was ready for the switchover. But, I didn't have a spare SATA hard disk to start with, so I decided to use an old IDE hard disk.
My motherboard Asus P8H61 doesn't have an onboard IDE controller, so I used a Logilink IDE/SATA PCI-E card (JMicron JMB36X chipset) to connect the disk. I then managed to transfer some data to other places and freed a spare 500GB SATA disk so I could clone the installation since the old IDE disk was only 120GB. I used Acronis True Image 2014 and did an "As is" clone to make sure that the transfer would be successful and bootable. I would later extend the partition to take all the available space. So far so good.
The problem is that the disk works only connected on the Logilink card (JMicron JMB36X controller) and not when connected onboard (Intel controller). I attempted to repair Windows startup using the DVD-ROM but didn't manage to start Windows successfully, unless I connect the disk on the card. I wouldn't mind too much about it, but the card sometimes blocks when there are too many programs open increasing disk access freezing the system and I have to reset the computer. Not really convenient.
So what can I do to make the installation usable on the onboard Intel controller? Is there any workaround? Of course I would like to avoid reinstalling everything and waste a week's effort!
I'am trying 8 hours now to install Windows 8 to an Acer Aspire 5920g.
Problem is that when the usb flash drive comes to hdd presenation point the hdd isnt being displayed.
My guess is that Sata AHCI/IDE controller driver for the 5920g's chipset is missing from Windows 8 installation dvd.
I googled very much and i can only find XP and Vista Sata Drivers while oi need 8's.
Is there an alternative? I must get 8 installed in that laptop.
first off this is a new fresh install of windows 8 i had to download and install 8.1 via updates. This computer is fully updated.
It is an older computer but I only use it for my TV to store Movie/Videos
ASUS M3A78-EM

after a fresh install everything worked fine until i tried to connect to my local network the onboard NIC has an error (code 10) it is a Realtek PCIe GBE Family NIC. after finding this i uninstalled and went to Realteks website and got the newest windows 8 64bit drivers. ran the install and it updated the drivers... but the device still cannot start so i uninstalled again and picked the drivers manually and that didn't change the issue either.
So i checked the back of the computer and noticed that non of the activity lights were lighting up on the NIC so i pulled the ram and battery AND power cord and let it sit. (ive delt with a similar issue before where a NIC would stay asleep and not wake up) after a wait i turned it back on and noticed that i had an orange light glowing again on the NIC.
After setting up the bios i booted back into windows only to see that as SOON as the driver were automatically installed the lights in the back go out and of course..... the device cannot start error.....
At this point I cant think of anything else to do. I do have a wireless card in the pcie slot that works fine. could that cause the onboard not to work? or... am i Just SOL and this is just a Windows 8 issue? should i just go and buy a PCIe network card?
I have two computers:
LOFT
mapped network drives M, N, O
BEDROOM
mapped network drives P, Q, R
If I am on the LOFT computer i can see all mapped network drives, M,N,O,P,Q,R
if I am on the BEDROOM computer I can see mapped network drives P,Q,R but not M,N,O. I click on M,N,O and it comes up with a windows asking for login and password and states the following, "the system cannot contact a domain controller to service the authentication request, after I type in the info I can then see the drives.
I am running into a problem with newly upgraded windows 8 computers not being able to register DNS with our existing domain controller that is currently on server 2003.
I am getting the following error: The system failed to register host (A or AAAA) resource records (RRs) for network adapter with settings:
Adapter Name : {0D2F7524-B997-4850-BE6E-50B502FE46A8}
Host Name : ########
Primary Domain Suffix : #####.#######.com
DNS server list :
172.29.1.10, 172.29.1.12
Sent update to server : <?>
IP Address(es) :
172.29.5.145
The reason the system could not register these RRs was because of a security related problem. The cause of this could be (a) your computer does not have permissions to register and update the specific DNS domain name set for this adapter, or (b) there might have been a problem negotiating valid credentials with the DNS server during the processing of the update request.
You can manually retry DNS registration of the network adapter and its settings by typing 'ipconfig /registerdns' at the command prompt. If problems still persist, contact your DNS server or network systems administrator. See event details for specific error code information.
I blanked out the computer name and domain name.
My Acer V5-571G has an awesome trackpad, but acer only provides Elantech drivers, which aren't as great.
This, is great: Synaptic Gesture Suite
but it refers you to your manufacturer for drivers.

So my queries is that i have recently installed windows 8.1 and i wanted these original files to be installed but dont know which one to pick from vista drivers or windows 7 drivers? but windows 7 drivers are latest when compare with vista. Or should I download nvidia drivers from nvidia website? and also same goes with realtek audio driver from realtek website?
I just upgraded to Windows 8.1 from Windows 7, and I cannot get a wireless connection. I have a Linksys Wireless G Card v4.1, and I've attempted to use multiple different drivers, but none of them work. At one point I was able to get a "Network Controller" to show up, but after rebooting my computer, it went away (and I was unable to get it again). Is it possible to get an internet connection with my card and Windows 8.1? Or will I have to stick with Windows 7?
View 3 Replies View RelatedHow can I find express cache drivers for Windows 8.1 ? I've been searching for long time but cannot find any. I assume it's already installed with Windows or what? I just want to use my SSD(24GB) as an express cache. I have an Ideapad y410p.
Sometimes my SSD disappears like unplugged from the system or shutdown itself, why this is happening?
I'm running a custom build PC on which I clean installed a (legal) copy of Windows 8.1
My system works fine except it can not install drivers for ANYTHING non-standard. Keyboard, mouse, memory sticks, HDDs all work fine, however when I plug in my phone/tablet/camera etc via USB, it fails to install drivers and I can't use my device.
Here's what device manager looks like with my (android) phone plugged in
And when I select Update driver software, I get this error:
I needed to ask as i've come from XP, when i installed 8.1 it installed drivers for my mobo so i had sound/net etc... and for my gpu aswell. Should i install the drivers from the manufacturer? Such as the realtek audio/lan/etc... and also my amd gpu?
If i were to install the Gpu driver would i just download it and install it with microsofts one there? And with the motherboard? Should i leave them there as i have sound/net etc... (haven't tried gaming yet)
I was wondering if there is a way to force Windows 8.1 to use older drivers, for example, force a generic Bluetooth adapter driver to use version 6.2.9200 instead of 6.3.9600.
I am just trying to troubleshoot a problem and was curious, and wanted to try if its possible.
I own a XPS L702X laptop purchased in 2011. Laptop has driver support from Dell for Win 7 and Win 8. But windows 8 drivers aren't working with windows 8.1 and i don't think Dell is in the mood to provide drivers for a laptop which is already 2+ years old.
So i had to collect drivers by myself. I have already got most of the native drivers from Intel/nVidia/Realtek websites. But not able to find the Quickset software. Currently using the one which was released for windows 8, and it gives error when i open the windows mobility center. And after installing, it doesn't remove the "Unknown Device" icon from device manager like it used to do in windows 8 .
Also need "ST Micro Screen Detection Sensor" driver. If i install the old windows 8 driver, it says incompatible with this version of windows.
i am currently using windows 7 .i m planning on installing windows 8.I have a i3 machine with intel DH55PJ board.when i went ti intel website i didn't see any network graphics or audio drivers for windows 8. is their any way i can use windows 7 drivers in windows 8.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am trying to troubleshoot a problem I am having with a non-typical HID device. The device in question is called a NEO2, manufactured by a company called Renaissance Learning. This device is used in schools for students to test 'smartapplets' on. These smartapplets teach things like keyboarding and math, etc. The device looks like a keyboard with 2x8 inch LCD screen on it. Typically you are able to connect this device to a computer and it will transfer the information to an application that can manage it all.
The problem that I am having with it is that when I connect this device to a computer, it should install 2 drivers back to back. This is how it had previously worked on all Windows operating systems in the past. You connect it, it installs a standard HID driver for allowing the device to be used as a secondary keyboard, then another driver to allow the device to connect to the NEO Manager software. Windows 8 will install the HID driver automatically, but not the second driver.
When I view the device in Device Manager, I can see it there with an asterisk by it, as if it knows that drivers were not installed properly. Right click the device, choose to update drivers and choose the search option. It will find the drivers locally (I know this since fiddler did not report any communication http wise) and then install them and everything is fine. So, this is my question. What has changed in Windows 8 that now does not install both drivers automatically as other versions have in the past? The drivers are signed properly, and I see no events in any section of the event viewer that would denote an issue. I also tested turning off the strict driver enforcement or whatever that was called, and it did the same thing. This happens on both the 32 and 64 bit versions of Windows 8. It works on all other versions from Windows XP to Windows 7.
I've tried both with soundblaster sound card and NVidia graphics card. It just don't want to install the 64 bit drivers ...
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm using Windows 8. When I'm trying to update my Qualcomm Atheros AR9287 driver, it just tells me that the newest driver is already installed, which is not true. I downloaded and unpacked the driver, but even if I navigate there, Windows 8 will not recognize that driver and just tell me that the newest is installed, effectivly blocking any driver update.
I tried to delete the old drivers manually from system32, but he still won't recognize the new one. If I deinstall the drivers via manager, the whole adapter disappears; when checking for changed hardware, he will reappear and instantly reinstall the old driver, even if it has been deleted from system32 (no idea where he gets the old file from).
I'm having a problem with system file corruption on two computers with ASUS Sabertooth 990FX Rev 2 motherboards and some resulting issues after upgrading from Windows 8.0 to 8.1. ASUS still doesn't have 8.1 chipset drivers available for their AMD motherboards but they have 8.1 for their Intel boards, which is interesting. I have been told by a third level MS Support person that the corruption is caused by a hardware issue and he refuses to troubleshoot the computer until the corruption is resolved. He said that in the 8.0 to 8.1 upgrade, Microsoft made some significant changes so he thinks that 8.1 chipset drivers should be installed.
Every few days, when I run sfc /scannow, it finds corruption. If sfc can't fix it, then I run the dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth command and eventually it gets fixed. In the meantime, some strange things happen with Window's operation but I don't get BSODs and other major things but the computer can hang for a while.
I have contacted ASUS but I get conflicting information from them. I see that here: ASUS Windows 8.1 - Ready Motherboard : Get you Onboard, that many AMD boards have passed the WHQL test (only very recently--the Intel boards had already passed some time ago) but when you click on any link to an AMD board, there are no 8.1 drivers available, even where it says they have some. I have been told by ASUS's Customer Care Manager that AMD provides the chipset drivers. I have spoken to AMD Support and they say that they do NOT provide motherboard drivers--the motherboard manufacturer does. I then told the ASUS Customer Care Manager this--then he said:
"ASUS would have to work with AMD in the development of such drivers, and since our testing of Windows 8.1 with the current 8 drivers has worked without further issues there is no word of further development of a Windows 8.1 chipset driver set for that motherboard. It isn't deemed necessary as of now. This is also due to the fact that AMD is working with ASUS to develop other products with their FM2+ socket and APU processors such as the board in the link [URL] .....
As far as the appropriate chipset driver for the Crosshair V Formula-Z, it is already available but it the same driver that is used for 8, and the only driver that needs to be updated further after that should be the USB 3.0 driver. The webpage you described is just dated and isn't meant to be used for continued reference. Our product page just hasn't been updated to reflect the information I am providing."
I wonder how much in depth testing ASUS did with the AMD boards which supposedly work fine running Windows 8.1 on a motherboard using 8.0 chipset drivers?
i am a intel hardware user from the beggining, a friend of mine had clean installed windows 8 pro on his PC ( custom-build) which has amd phenom x2 processor, and clocked at 800 Mhz... i don't know either a bit about AMD And neither him, when i had a look at the display adapter in his pc's device manager it was AMD radeon 3000 graphics( wddm versiom).
