I am having trouble with my USB 3.0 port.Whenever I plug anything (usb, mouse, portable hard drive etc) into that particular port, "Client Server Runtime Process" would use 100% of the CPU. However, when plugged into the USB 2.0, all seems to be fine.
View 5 Repliesjust noticed my Vaio ethernet port isn't working. it says the adaptor is working normally, but when I plug in an ethernet cable is says the cable is not plugged in. I tried it with two different cables that work elsewhere.
I wonder if the laptop ethernet card is faulty? Wireless is working fine.
I only ever use it to hard connect the router during setup, so it could have been out of order even before my Win7 to 8.1 upgrade.
so i opened my port 25565 (or so i thought) went to test to see if its open on multiple sites and....all of them say its closed.
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy ISP provides secure imap access to my email accounts hosted on their servers. Recently, my company blocked port 993 (imap ssl) - however, port 443 remains open (https). At my home router, I can forward port 443 to my Windows 8 64-bit machine. I'm looking for a program that will redirect traffic inbound on port 443, outbound on 993 to my ISP's email server so I can use imap at work.
Is this something that can be natively done, and if not, is there such a program? It looks like there is something called PassPort for XP that might do it (PassPort port forwarding utility Win XP | Free System Administration software downloads at SourceForge.net), but I was wondering if there was something better.
I'm trying to connect my SSD to USB3.0 using an "adapter cable" (2.5" SATA HDD to USB 3.0)
The connection is however "unstable" going on/off/on/off in my Disk Management. Switching to USB 2 , the instability vanish
Searching this forum I see others having problems with their USB 3.0 as well , so I have:
- Adjusted the advanced power settings
- Disabled Fast Startup
- Disabled USB selective suspend setting
The instability has improved, but not been resolved.I have not checked the speed on the USB but I strongly suspect, I only get USB 2 speed (as many others describe)
As the USB 3.0 is on the left side of my Acer V5 (OEM Windows 8.1) and both of the USB 2.0 ports are on the right () , I'm not able to make use of any Y-cable either ..... I do not know if my USB 3.0 is 150mA or 900mA , however I have a strong suspicion .

I do not want to check the speed on a USB 3.0 flash drive or external drive. I need to know the speed of the port itself is transferring at full 3.0 capacity.
What I have is an external mechanical USB 3.0 hard drive. I know it's a 7200 rpm drive. My 3.0 USB ports on my laptop are not using the blue USB plastic to denote 3.0 speeds, they use black plastic.
Therefore I am not confidant they are running at full 3.0 speeds. I want a tool that will measure the port speeds independently of any drive or device on the USB port.

There are four USB specs: 1.0, 1.1, 2.0, and 3.0. But to confuse things, each USB spec has more than one data rate assigned to it. Those rates are "low", "full", "high", and "super."
Therefore, benchmarking data throughput solely on speed is not necessarily conclusive as to what the actual spec being used. Thus, a USB 3.0 port may not be actually running at a "super" rating but at a "High" rating instead.
On a Windows machine, check the data rating of the USB root/hub - Goto: Device Manager --> USB Controllers --> USB Root Hub (Right Click) --> Properties --> Advanced (Tab).
It should tell you the data rating for the USB hub/port. Once you know that, you'll know the maximum throughput from the computer's POV.
Low = 1.5 Mbps Full = 12 Mbps High = 480 Mbps Super = 5 Gbps

I got a new mouse a couple of days back, it's one of those fancy Razer mouses with 12 buttons on the side that is used for gaming and stuff. I have an issue when I try to use usb 3.0 instead of 2.0 ports. ( my tower only has like 2 2.0 ports so I try to use those for other things ) I am trying not to buy a usb hub before somebody says it
On games ( fullscreen or Windowed ) quickslot controls where you can use the numbers on your mouse I can't use the 3.0 port as it won't recognize the side buttons but it will on the 2.0 port.
I am guessing this is a driver problem but I am unsure. Neither the native mouse driver for Windows nor the fancy Cloud Synapse driver 2.0 works.
How do I change the Com port for my modem in Windows 8? When I google around the instructions say to reinstall the modem, but I just installed it and it has the wrong port. It seems to default to Com 1 and my modem is on Com 4. So, how do I change the modem com port from Com 1 to Com 4? For a while I would plug in headphones into the mic port and it would bring up a dialog saying I could change it to another headphone port but it never worked. Now it doesn't even pop up. I don't want necessarily to remove SKyDrive but it annoys the hell out of me when my files go to it and not to Documents which is where I want them. I do not know how to stop Skydrive being the first port of call for all my saved files or how to replace it with the good old fashioned Documents File. I am sure I am not alone in thinking that the Microsoft techies did a lousy job trying to better Win7 with this appalling Windows 8.1. I am about to buy a new laptop but what was once a real pleasure is now going to be a pain in the neck to have to get a new laptop with Windows 8 on it.
View 3 Replies View Relatedmy USB 3.0 ports are not working with my USB 3.0 ext-HDD. It's an ADATA Nobility NH13 I don't have any other USB 3.0 equipment to test, but the ext-HDD works perfectly on my laptop and on my TV as well, so it's definitely not the HDDs fault.
When I plug in USB 2 devices, they work perfectly and at maximum speeds. Even the HDD does work when connected with a USB 2.0 cable instead of it's own 3.0 cable.
This behaviour is present on front as well as the rear ports.
In the Device Manager there IS a USB3.0 driver:

I know, if I enable the option, when I do a normal shutdown I can charge, say my mp3 player from my usb 3.0 port.
what I want to know is if I close the lid like I normally do at the end of my day, can I charge my device and not say..wake the computer from what is essentially a hybrid shutdown type sleep mode?
I've been having an issue with my Acer S7-391. I bought the Windows 8 machine in December, and the majority of the time when I start it up in the morning, it doesn't boot properly - it hangs on a black screen for ages. I then have to hit the off button and boot it back up again and, sometimes, it boots after having to go through a system repair. Also, sometimes it does boot properly from the get-go without having to jump through hoops - not often though.
Originally I thought it was an issue with me having upgraded to Windows 8.1 shortly after buying the laptop, but having rolled the machine back to Windows 8, the issue prevailed. Through trial and error, though, I've figured out when it does and when it doesn't boot properly (yeah, I'm slow). Basically, it never boots properly when I have a USB mouse/keyboard plugged in. I take them out, boot the machine, and can plug them in again almost immediately and everything works fine. But NEVER does it boot with these devices plugged in from the start.

How do I change the USB port that Windows to Go listens the drive while in use?
I have this computer, with an Asus P8H61-LE Motherboard. As you expect, it doesn't pack USB 3.0 ports. But it does come with some nifty PCI-E x1 slots, so I've bought a random USB 3.0 PCI-E card, with 40 pin for front panel.
Works amazingly. Fast and beautiful, exactly what I've expected. BUT, it doesn't have its own BIOS or something, so my UEFI BIOS cannot boot from devices connected to it. In fact, it doesn't even detect anything there until I boot up to the O.S.!
And I have this Windows to Go Setup. Works like a charm on USB 2.0, but sometimes I feel the bottleneck, and wouldn't hurt using my only USB 3.0 device on those USB 3.0 ports, eh? I've tried disconnecting and reconnecting it on USB 3.0, but WTG just ignores it as if it weren't there. Even when I connect to a different USB 2.0 port, it doesn't detect.
This USB port remapping would serve for other uses too. Once, I've connected my drive to a client's computer, for repairs. But it took longer than I expected, and I had it connected on the front USB. I needed to connect other thumb and external hard drives and had to use the rear USB ports for this, because WTG didn't detect anywhere else.
Today i turned on my G73JH today and my keyboard is not working, I have windows 8.1 and had to use the on screen keyboard to type anything in. The keyboard works fine when i press F2 to go into the bios and and can navigate around the bios no problem.

I'm not able to remove the Bluetooth Mouse there, and I'm also not able to detect any Bluetooth devices at all. I've even tried to use a Bluetooth dongle but to no avail. I've seen some suggested solutions to enable Bluetooth Support Services (which I have, and placed under Local Access), but this doesn't work for me as well.

I had to disable Bluetooth in BIOS to be able to install the system.
Now with the system up and running I would like to use Bluetooth. The device is not listed in Device Manager and no driver was installed. When I enable it in BIOS system will not start, it crashes with error [URL]....
I found the driver which should be installed. So with Bluetooth still disabled I tried to install it. It's in exe so I can't really get the driver files. The SW asks for Bluetooth to be activated by a switch. I have a button which normally turns Wifi+Bluetooth on/of .. but with BT disabled it does not work, obviously. And the only option is 'Cancel' : [URL] ....
For some reason the mousepad's two finger scrolling and two finger tap for right click doesn't work for my HP laptop in the signature.
At least the scrolling didn't work just earlier today but I see the two finger tap for right click is still not working
I have just got a nearly new Toshiba laptop and updated to Windows 8.1. Since then I have been unable to connect any device to it via Bluetooth. It was able to see the devices and try to connect but as soon as it connected the connection was dropped and the devices reported failed to connect error. I reinstalled the Bluetooth driver with the latest driver from the Toshiba website and now the Laptop wont even see any devices.

Next to the ATI mobility in device managers, there is an exclamation point in a yellow triangle. when i open it up, it says

My friend knows a lot about computers and has a side business fixing them and works as tech support for a company and for his university, so he installed the new hard drive for me and downloaded most of the drivers and installed them and said he would get the wireless working later. He eventually came back a few days ago to finish it up and after he left, I realized the wifi STILL was not working.
I have an ethernet cable and the thing it plugs into here in my dorm room, and the wifi works fine when connected to an ethernet, but Christmas break starts in a few days and I have no way to connect with my ethernet cable at home. I have my old laptop that I'm currently using but it's shitty and it doesn't turn on unless it's connected to the power cord so I can't really take it anywhere.
I've tried redownloading and installing all of the drivers myself but it doesn't do anything at all and I don't know enough about computers to figure it out. I did see that there is a yellow triangle next to the network controller driver so I'm assuming it probably has something to do with that being missing.
I got a program that I use in windows 7 that requires me to hit f8 and select option "disable driver signature" in order to work. Id like to use it in windows 8, I found on the internet that people use the command "bcdedit /set {default} boot menu policy legacy" in cmd enable this feature when booting, but I tried it and when I hit f8, my surface pro is trying to do an auto repair. How to get this menu up.
View 3 Replies View RelatedIn any case, as the topic title says, some keys on my laptop occasionally stop working for some time, before returning back to normal. Sometimes simply pressing the key several times makes it work, sometimes holding it pressed for ten seconds or so works... Sometimes neither of these works. Occasionally, the key starts working it I press it in rapid succession with a key that does work. For example, pressing I, a non-working key, instantly after pressing J, which works perfectly. Sometimes I simply just randomly press keys on my keyboard until the non-working keys start working again. Backspacing seems to make it easier for them to go back to 'non-working state', although this may be just my imagination.
When any one of the keys that sometimes stop working stops working, none of those keys works. And when one starts working again, all of them start working. Although they may return back to non-working state right away. Although it might be just coincidence, and it doesn't actually work that way.
An incomplete list of the keys that occasionally stop working:
(Left) Ctrl, I, O, 2, 7.
There are others, I believe, at least one more number, but I have no way to check until they stop working. And at the time of typing this post, they seem to be working strangely well.Also, the keys are (almost?) always in the 'non-working state' when the laptop wakes from sleep mode and I have to input the password. Luckily, it offers the On-Screen Keyboard option, which, by the way, works perfectly.
Recently I've upgraded my toshiba laptop with w7 to Windows 8.1 (without keeping any settings), but I cant get my synaptics touchpad to work.
Windows automatically installed some drivers for the touchpad but it didnt work. Then I downloaded newest generic drivers from synaptics website but they wouldnt install - I get an "installation failed" error without any elaboration.
So I've installed synaptics driver that was provided for my laptop for win 7. It installed nicely, but the touchpad still doesnt work - disabling/enabling it in synaptics tab in mouse settings doesnt change anything.
I thought that maybe now the generic driver will install that I have an older synaptics version installed and not some random windows driver, but no, the installation still fails.
The story unfolds :P Next I downloaded toshiba synaprics driver for win 8.1 that was developed for some newer laptop model as mine is no longer supported. The installation went smoothly but the touchpad still doesnt work.....
