I have MSI CX480 and i just upgraded to windows 8 from 7.. my function keys are working before but now that i'm in 8 its not working. i already install my drivers but still, its not working..
View 9 RepliesIn any case, as the topic title says, some keys on my laptop occasionally stop working for some time, before returning back to normal. Sometimes simply pressing the key several times makes it work, sometimes holding it pressed for ten seconds or so works... Sometimes neither of these works. Occasionally, the key starts working it I press it in rapid succession with a key that does work. For example, pressing I, a non-working key, instantly after pressing J, which works perfectly. Sometimes I simply just randomly press keys on my keyboard until the non-working keys start working again. Backspacing seems to make it easier for them to go back to 'non-working state', although this may be just my imagination.
When any one of the keys that sometimes stop working stops working, none of those keys works. And when one starts working again, all of them start working. Although they may return back to non-working state right away. Although it might be just coincidence, and it doesn't actually work that way.
An incomplete list of the keys that occasionally stop working:
(Left) Ctrl, I, O, 2, 7.
There are others, I believe, at least one more number, but I have no way to check until they stop working. And at the time of typing this post, they seem to be working strangely well.Also, the keys are (almost?) always in the 'non-working state' when the laptop wakes from sleep mode and I have to input the password. Luckily, it offers the On-Screen Keyboard option, which, by the way, works perfectly.
My autoplay has stopped working on both my sd cards and my dvd drive - this happened in win 8 - and has remained even though I have upgraded to 8.1 - I have set the autoplay settings to ask every time - but still nothing pops up ? - I don't ever remember switching it off ?
View 6 Replies View RelatedRecently did a clean install of windows 8 on my Asus K53SV and the function keys work fine except for the brightness keys.Actually, at first i loaded the windows 7 atk package and the brightness keys worked but the volume ones didn't then i got the latest atk package and now the brightness ones don't work (the lower brightness one just dims my monitor a bit and the increase brightness just makes it brighter a bit but doesn't change the brightness value) and the volume ones do.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have had this windows 8 laptop for half a year now. I didn't have any problems with it until AFTER the 30 day warranty expired. My issue is the right parenthesis key, the underscore key, and the question mark key stop working every now and then and it is getting more and more frequent. I haven't done anything to this laptop at all, It hasn't been dropped, hit, spilled upon or anything.

I have checked the WIFI device driver(Broadcom 802.11n) in device manger and it is showing working fine but in the Networks section the Wifi is showing disabled.
I am attaching the screen shot of the device driver property and the my network panel.
I have a Toshiba Satellite P75-A7200 with windows 8, and none of the function keys are working, although they used to work. Windows 8 does not have flash cards, nor is there a keyboard option on computer settings.
View 3 Replies View Relatedeverything was OK until I went to download updates from HP 1Gb worth and then restarting the computer to find I had no wireless recognition, and it seems the downloads didn't download. after a long session with HP and a system restore to before this fiasco, the wireless is back working, but when playing solitaire the fn and z won't let me undo which is a nuisance. also I now have the annoying red alert from the HP assistant wanting me to download.

I've tried to gain access to my password protected user account via my guest account but I can't type the password in because of the way it's messing up. I want to use windows defender to try to sort it out.
View 5 Replies View Related I think my toddler messed with some buttons on my computer today and now it is all wrong. First I tried using the keyboard to turn up the volume but this did not work. I looked into it and it seemed that my FN keys were reversed. So I followed these instructions: If the volume controls on your keyboard stops working, check the Human Interface Device Access service on your computer to make sure it is set to Automatic.
In the Start menu, type View local services.
From the Search Results list, select View local services.
In the Services dialog box, locate Human Interface Device Access. Make sure the status is set to "Started." If it is not started, click Start the service.
Right-click Human Interface Device Access and select Properties.
On the General tab, in the Startup type, select Automatic, and then click OK.
After doing this, I went to see if it worked and after hitting the volume keys a few times, my mouse disappeared. I restarted the computer, on the login screen the mouse worked fine. But, when I got into the computer the pointer was on the screen but would not move! Now I can't do anything.
I upgraded from windows 7 ultimate to windows 8 pro keeping my windows settings, personal files and apps as it is..the upgrading went smooth... but whenever i open IE10 it stops working and says "we're unable to return to..." I even troubleshooted it's performance.... but no luck
Before upgrading i ran the upgrade assistant, and it said inte(r) network connections isn't compatible with the OS... so i completely removed it...then installed Windows 8
Anyways I've been having trouble since I got this laptop and basically my f1, f2 keys are like for screen brightness etc however if I press the FN key then it works how I want it to. How I can disable the FN function key to work opposite? also how do I set hot keys?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been having problems with keyboards on my new Windows 8.1 build. I have been able to replicate this using 2 different USB keyboards (Logitech G15 and Razer BlackWidow).
Every once in a while when I am typing, a key will get "stuck" and type out several times on the screen. So for example, if I was typing the word update, it might look like this.
At first I thought it was the keyboard, but since I have switched and just had it happen on the new keyboard.
I have switched USB ports on my mobo and that didnt seem to work. I am using the default Windows drivers as well for the keyboard.
I recently have been having this issue where whenever I use the media keys (play, pause, rewind, and forward) and the volume keys on my quickfire pro it just refreshes my browser window. This has been happening recently and is very annoying.

My HDD currently makes a clicking noise at random times and I think it might be dying, so I want to be proactive. I plan on buying an SSD and cloning my HDD to it. I have many programs that require a license/key to use (mainly concerned with ArcGIS). After I make the switch, will my subscriptions still be active and ready to use? Other programs I was thinking of were Microsoft Office and antivirus.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a bluetooth module (Broadcom 2070) installed in my laptop.The hardware seems to be functioning fine (at least from Device Manager). However, when I go to Bluetooth Settings, all I see is this:
I'm not able to remove the Bluetooth Mouse there, and I'm also not able to detect any Bluetooth devices at all. I've even tried to use a Bluetooth dongle but to no avail. I've seen some suggested solutions to enable Bluetooth Support Services (which I have, and placed under Local Access), but this doesn't work for me as well.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have just got a nearly new Toshiba laptop and updated to Windows 8.1. Since then I have been unable to connect any device to it via Bluetooth. It was able to see the devices and try to connect but as soon as it connected the connection was dropped and the devices reported failed to connect error. I reinstalled the Bluetooth driver with the latest driver from the Toshiba website and now the Laptop wont even see any devices.

Recently I've upgraded my toshiba laptop with w7 to Windows 8.1 (without keeping any settings), but I cant get my synaptics touchpad to work.
Windows automatically installed some drivers for the touchpad but it didnt work. Then I downloaded newest generic drivers from synaptics website but they wouldnt install - I get an "installation failed" error without any elaboration.
So I've installed synaptics driver that was provided for my laptop for win 7. It installed nicely, but the touchpad still doesnt work - disabling/enabling it in synaptics tab in mouse settings doesnt change anything.
I thought that maybe now the generic driver will install that I have an older synaptics version installed and not some random windows driver, but no, the installation still fails.
The story unfolds :P Next I downloaded toshiba synaprics driver for win 8.1 that was developed for some newer laptop model as mine is no longer supported. The installation went smoothly but the touchpad still doesnt work.....
Installed windows 8.1 preview last night and after installing i get stuck at the lock screen, cant click or punch keys to log in. Since the powers that be decided to change how you boot into safe mode is my only option to format?

I have installed window 8 pro 32 bit.
I have HP 630 laptop ( 2GB RAM , 320 GB HDD , intel i3 processor ) after that my blue tooth is not working ....
Few more drivers of intel are not working (not getting installed ) ( error is : The installer can not run this platform . Please select package for your operating system)
Its atheros driver . Previously it was working fine with window 7 32 bit. A friend of mine told me that window 8 does not require drivers to be installed provided by laptop vendor.
But again as i told above my blue tooth not working. Intel Management Engine Interface (MEI) is also not getting installed.
Is there an problem with system performance if all drivers are not getting installed due to error

I have an AS US CM 6870-us 012 s desktop, currently running Windows 8.1 (originally downloaded from the Store, but I recently purchased a retail full-install version to see if I could correct the many problems). It has several USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 ports in front - the USB 2.0 ports work fine, but the USB 3.0 ports SORT OF WORK (but they don't).....
When I plug in a USB 3.0 external drive (Western Digital My Passport), I hear the brief music indicating Plug-n-Play connection occurred (the USB 3.0 end was inserted into the USB 3.0 port). However, I don't get a drive letter assigned, nor do I see it in File Explorer, nor do I see it registered in AS US's AI Suite II/System Information/Disk......but I DO see it in Disk Management (without a drive letter - just Disk 5)!
There are no problems appearing in Device Manager, nor in any item related to USB (none anywhere, nadda, zip, zero) - every thing is working, so when I look for hardware errors (running Hardware Troubleshooter), none are found. When I look at AI Suite II software to un-install Boost 3.0, there is no Boost 3.0 shown that I can disable or un-install, as others have done to correct their problems.
I tried a full install of Windows 8.1 and have the exact same result, yet when the system was originally running Windows 8.0 (that came on the PC), everything worked perfectly!

"Connect a Camera".
Ran Dell PC diagnostics, no errors were found. I do not have a Imaging Device folder (that stores the Webcam) in Device Manager. Installed Dell Webcam Central, but when launched, I get msg "Please plug in a supported device" I am not able to run this application either.
Do I need to load any Webcam drivers for win 8?
Since I have upgraded to 8.1 my remote control no longer works it is detected in device manager and driver is installed but when I click skip,play, stop etc nothing happens. I use it mainly for my music.
Is there a way to get it working again. I use the default music app to play music which I preferred the old version to be honest.

My pc was working fine until yesterday night when july windows update was downloaded and installed.
Then when today morning i booted up my pc all my usb devices stopped working, I cannot use my mouse or keyboard when my windows is booted.
However, I am able to use my mouse and keyboard fine in UEFI bios without any issue.
I tried clearing cmos,changing ports,enable and disable legacy usb in bios,enable and disable intel xhci still my mouse and keyboard are not working when windows boots up.
I tried system restore using windows 8 cd but it ends up giving some error during restore and says unable to restore.
I am able to access my system registry and explorer using the windows 8 cd.
I have problem with USB 2.0. The problem first begin with app called (zadig.exe) under options i click List all devices.
I think by mistake i change of the drives after that the USB 2.0 stop working. I have USB 3.0 and its fine. The USB 2.0 can charge my phone and the mouse can work in BIOS ONLY. After going to Win 8 is stop working but it will charge my phone.
I have a Sony Vaio running Windows 8.1 Pro. I was on cs portable with a USB mouse and I pressed a few keys and the mouse stopped to work. It came up with the message that it was not recognized.
